Pretty much a dive. Waitress was nice and friendly. Gravy biscuits were so-so. Too much flour and way too thick. French toast was OK. Omelette was pretty good...fresh ingredients. They have Pepsis not Coke products.

Service was excellent! We loved our Gut Buster breakfast, so delicious and filling. Our waitress, Shanon, was very sweet and helpful . Lisa, another waitress, also made us laugh, which made the experience even better. We took our dog Odie and they were very welcoming towards him.Overall, the place felt very comforting and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

Parking is a bit of a challenge as this is a small restaurant. The decor and general vibe is like a house converted to a restaurant which gave it a "homey" feel. They have a large counter top as well so if you want a quick bite it is the perfect place to sit! The service is slow and forgetful, but the sandwich made it worth it! My husband got the country fried steak. It was a frozen patty with canned gravy so a bit disappointing, but not the worst he has ever had.

We are from Southern NJ and vacation in Marathon between Christmas and New Years. For about a decade we have always made sure we visit Florida Keys Cafe at least once during our stay. In fact, in our group, we refer to it as "the sausage gravy place." The food is terrific! The service is always friendly and fast and the wait staff are always attentive to our needs. I appreciate that the food comes out hot and tasty. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu, including some specialized breakfast combinations that will leave the hungriest patron full and satisfied. When you walk in and take your seat, you feel very at-home in the laid-back environment. The place is small, but not cramped. There are tables, booths, and seats available at the counter. It's nice to sit and enjoy a meal amidst the hustle and bustle of other patrons who are eating and talking and enjoying life. I am glad for the friendly banter I engage in with the servers. They are not so serious that they can't enjoy a laugh now and again. In conclusion: yes, I recommend eating at Florida Keys Cafe. The variety of food can please even the pickiest of eaters. The food comes out cooked to order, hot, and delicious. The wait staff are friendly and the service is prompt. Thank you, Florida Keys Cafe, for always serving up just what we're looking for when we're in town!

Service was fast. Coffee was good. There were plenty of options off the menu and place seems kid friendly.

My wife and Lisa, our server, who's been here for over 35 years

Lisa is awesome! Makes you feel right at home and welcome from the moment you enter. The food was amazing and delicious, and it came out so fast! The place was packed, but we still got seated right away. Lovely little mom and pop cafe, highly recommended!

A great place to stop at going to or leaving Key West. Only my husband ate, I had breakfast in my room hours earlier. He had the breakfast burrito with home fry potatoes and could not quite finish it all. Service was efficient and pleasant. Bathrooms are outside which was a surprise.

Sausage gravy omelette

The last few times we stopped here, they added mimosas to the menu. Yes!! I ordered mango and my usual sausage gravy omelet. RJ had a regular omelet and I shared my sausage gravy with him. It was awesome as usual. Keys Cafe is consistently fantastic.

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. Our experience at Thirsty Mermaid was one of the…read moreworst dining experiences we've had in years. The service was not just disappointing, it was completely unprofessional and left us wondering how this restaurant is even operating at this level. First, we ordered a clam chowder the moment we sat down. This is a basic appetizer, something any restaurant should be able to bring out. Shockingly, it didn't arrive until after we finished all of our entrées. I had to ask twice about it, and the explanation we received was, "We don't prepare the ingredients ahead of time, so it takes longer." I was honestly speechless. Clam chowder is a standard menu item, how does a kitchen not have basic prep done? By the time it finally arrived, it was no longer an appetizer but an afterthought. Second, before all of our dishes were even served, the staff came and removed every piece of tableware from our table.(included a little spoon we got for my kid, I have to ask them twice to get it back from their kitchen) We were literally left without utensils while still waiting for food, especially the clam chowder that was delayed. When we asked for utensils again, it took multiple reminders before someone finally brought us a few spoons. The lack of coordination and basic common sense was shocking. Third, we were a group of five adults and one child under 1.5 years old. At checkout, we were automatically charged a 20% gratuity fee, yet the restaurant provided zero service for the child. We asked for warm water to heat a baby bottle and were told, "We only have cold water here." That response alone was unbelievable. We even brought our own child seat. Worse, the server repeatedly carried plates over our child's head, and even after several reminders, continued doing so until the very last dish was served. The lack of awareness and safety consideration was truly concerning. To be specific, our server was a female staff member with an accent, and throughout the entire meal, it felt like she had zero intention of providing proper service. There was no attentiveness, no willingness to help, and absolutely no sense of responsibility that would justify a mandatory 20% service fee. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. Thirsty Mermaid displayed poor communication, lack of professionalism, and a complete disregard for basic hospitality standards. We will never return, and I strongly advise other families especially those with young children, to avoid this restaurant entirely.

Just a heads up, it gets very busy during lunch time and there is difficulty trying to find parking around here. My personal favorite is the buffalo chicken and it never disappoints. Sometimes there are bonuses and discounts available within the app and with your credit card too! If there was "extra" chicken there must have been none to start with. Hardly any in the salad. No dressing. None on the side, none on the salad. In fairness they offered an email voucher for $5 that does me no good since I leave tomorrow so I declined it. The food was good, but nothing that really stood out, so for me the pricing felt a little on the higher side. Parking is pretty limited and the seating inside is tight, which can make it tricky during busier times. I also tried one of the homemade juices, but the signage was a bit confusing. My friend and I thought we were picking a flavor (I chose passion fruit), but it turned out the items listed were actually the ingredients. Overall, it's a nice addition to the area and I appreciate the focus on healthier options, but there's some room for improvement.

This place does not mess around. Seatings are nightly at 6:00 and 8:00. No children, no kids menu, and no parties larger than six without the owner's consent. Cancel within 24 hours and it's a $25 fee per person. The local who tipped us off while we were at Kermit's for key lime truly did us a solid. Sebastian was our server and did a great job making sure we got what we ordered (in more ways than one). From the amuse-bouche of whipped farmer's cheese with scallion and parsley on toasted crostini (which I will absolutely be trying to replicate at home), to the beef stroganoff, grouper, deviled eggs topped with scallops, lobster stuffed shrimp, and the must-order shrimp mango toast, every single dish/appetizer/entree was impeccable. And yes, the key lime pie absolutely delivered. We even took another slice back to our room for later that night, alongside a to-go slice from Kermit's, so we could make a truly final call. To eliminate any bias, we blindfolded ourselves for a taste test. The boys declared Kermit's the winner, while the ladies, including my son, gave a slight edge to Red Shoe, citing the crust and lighter texture. We sampled several key lime pies from every place we ate at that offered key lime but Kermit's and Red Shoe offer hands down the best versions. A very close call, and a delicious way to end the debate.
