If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Let me preface by saying I am knowledgeable about a lot of things, but auto mechanics is not one of them. I know how to change my oil and change a tire, but that's about it. I've gone to various Big O tires occasionally over the years because my father recommended them to me as generally being trustworthy and helpful, aka not likely to take advantage of a female who clearly knows very little about cars. I went to this Big O tire about a month ago because my check engine light came on and my car was occasionally making a kind of chugging sensation when I drove. When I walked in, I noticed the board behind the counter said nothing about any real engine work. So I asked the guy that was helping me, "Do you guys do engine work?" "Well, yea." "My check engine light is on and my car is making a kind of chugging feeling when I drive. Do you guys deal with that kind of thing?" "Yea, no problem." Thus, I handed the guy the keys and left. Later that day, they called me back to tell me that the check engine light was on because of one of my valves, and they couldn't do anything about it. I would need to take it to a smog shop. Um, I thought you said you guys could handle this sort of thing? But okay, whatever. So I go to pick up my car from Big O Tire, and they charged me FIFTY BUCKS! Fifty bucks to run a code scan and tell me they can't fix it! At the time, I thought this was weird because I've had a similar experience at a different Big O in the bay area, and I wasn't charged. But I was in a major hurry to get my rental car turned in on time, and I was exhausted from a major bout with food poisoning that morning (it was a great day), so I didn't say anything about it. After calling around to a few other mechanics, I've been told repeatedly that what they did is bull and that I should make a fuss and ask for my money back. Living an hour away, I just let it go and haven't been back. And I promise, I won't ever be! read more

I have been to Big O a few times, and had reasonable service. I decided to never go back when one time they told me my brakes were worn and should soon be replaced. My boyfriend's dad's automotive shop agreed. I went back a second time, still having not fixed my breaks, and this time they told me my brakes were just fine. I know that they were not fine and find this to be a major safety concern to tell me that they were just fine. read more

I called and talked to Forest who was extremely helpful, upon arriving he was ready to help us get our tire fixed and back on the road as quickly as possible. We were in and out with in 45 min. I had spent $900 on a set of tires I ordered for my wife's 2013 Outback. When the tires were on I asked about the guarantee on the tires. The salesman said only the factory warranty would apply since they weren't the house brand. The road hazard would be $25 per tire extra. I opted out on that. He did say they would rotate for free. When I came in for my first rotation he took the keys and my wife and I waited. It took 1hour and 45 minutes to get the car back. I feel that this was excessive and will rotate them myself from now on. Any further tire purchases for my other vehicles I will consider another tire shop. Slow Slow Slow read more

We have been getting our tires at Big O for years & always were happy. But recently we had a problem with our alignment. They worked on it and we left. However, the car was having some serious problems. We took it back and they thought they fixed it, only to have to return again. They worked for almost two hours and fixed it. Every 20 minutes they came to give me an update. When it was completed they explained everything they did and did NOT charge me a dime. AND it ended up that the problem was not created by the alignment job. It just brought to surface a problem that was deeper. Yet because they did not find it initially, they worked to correct it at no charge. Love those guys! read more

Our group was on a trip to Portland and our car had a flat tire. We were looking online for a body shop nearby and found Big O. Called in to check for an available appointment and management was kind enough to accommodate our request at a short notice. Guys did a good job and fixed our flat tire in a short time. These guys have tremendous customer service. Got snowed in and stuck in Redding due to not having chains in the car I was driving. Went to BigO fully expecting to be taken advantage of. Couldn't have been more wrong...they sold me a set at a very reasonable price. I ended up not needing them and returned 'em 5 months later unused with no problem. Gave me a full refund AND the same guy who waited on me the first time was the first person to wait on me the second time! Was a great experience. I don't normally do online reviews but I have to give John a huge thumbs up for saving me big-bucks today and making sure my car safe to drive. I went to Midas to get quote as a family member said they have lifetime warranty on brake jobs. I just about fainted when the gentleman from midas called me. I immediately called John at Big O and he got me right in. To make a long story short ......didnt need all the items done in the midas quote so it went $1800 to $200. Hmmmm big difference!! Stopped in Redding on a road trip to British Columbia. On our first day out we picked up a bolt in our tire. Went to another tire place close to our motel and the first question asked as "did you get your tires here"? We're driving a 5 month old car with original tires, so, NO. Told us it would be a couple hours before they could look at it. We went down the road to Big O, and Chris greeted us warmly, said they could get us back on the road in an hour, assuming they could remove the bolt and do a plug. I recently just got a new car and someone decided to put nails under my tire. Last minute I drove it into big O tire and they were able to patch up and fill up the rest of my tires in less than an hour! The service was free but I felt super guilty not leaving the service man a little tip. I defiantly will go back again!! We have had a blown out tire, nail in the tire, and multiple tire rotations all done for FREE, these guys wouldn't even except a tip! Not to mention when we needed new tires in a hurry these guys found some lightly used tires that were exactly our size saving us hundreds of dollars, plus they let us do a payment plan! I went to The Tire Tree to try a local shop first, and was told my car could not be aligned because the right tire was loose and needed a new bearing before it could be aligned. Oh, and that's going to cost $750, but don't worry, we can get you in no problem. Thank God I got a second opinion and went to Big O, who not only did the alignment in the time it took the "local" shop to get my car in the bay, but also mentioned the loose right tire and told me I may want to fix it in the next year or so. Soooooooooo yeah, there ya go. Thank you for being honest, and not only that, but for doing your job, and doing it well. No wonder there is always a line. Moral of the story folks, if there is a line: it's worth the wait. If not, there's a very good reason for it, and thanks to Yelp, that reason is starting to see the light of day. read more

I just had an amazing experience at Big O Tires! Was filling up my gas tank before a big trip with my 1 year old daughter and noticed that my passenger front tire was really low. Took it to where I bought the car and they were full with service/ had a 4 hour wait....they suggested Big O and I'm so glad they did! I was greeted by Mike and he assured me that they would take care of the issue quickly and make the car safe for our trip. We were gifted a permanent patch for the tire at no charge and back on the road within 40 minutes. Additionally the wait was so pleasant because they had a playroom (with a half door!) I made appointment and they said please give us and hour fine not a big deal .... after that hour someone finally said your car is next in the bay (wtf) ..... and an hour later they finally were able to finish the very complicated job of replacing one tire and rotating them all . 2 hour oil change......with appointment. Made a appointment for a oil change. Showed up even early.....when they drove my car into the oil change bay . I thought it was going to be fast.....NOT, after 45 minutes I got up and went outside the waiting area to look for my car(which was still on the rack in the oil change bay)dude apparently was on break....SO I waited another 15 minutes and went looking around. AND this time someone was working on it .SO I waited another 15 minutes.. Recently my husband went to Sears Auto Center to get a nail removed from a tire he had purchased there previously. They apparently did not have enough guys available during the normal lunch hour to do the job. My husband had to wait quite a while and after getting disgusted with that he left and went over to Big O Tires where they not only repaired the tire quickly but they did not charge anything. We were towed to Big 0 in Redding on 8/9 at 5:30PM after an accident caused a blow out in our front right tire on our Subaru Outback. Mike Shreffler showed us the utmost courtesy and concern and had us on the road by 6:15 (kept staff after 6:00 close to finish the job) with four new tires. We verified with Costco and others that Mike was right in saying our AWD vehicle needed all four tires changed or there would be possible damage to the transmission box. Instead of having to stay overnight we were home a few hours later thanks to Mike. He also checked for any additional damage that would be safety issues for our drive home. Had some tire damage from some wood in the sidewall, not repairable, but Big O reminded me that I had something like road damage guarantee and they replaced the tire at no charge with no questions asked.
