The Big Nick's Burger is the BEST. It's thick, juicy and delicious. Stupid me left a bag of new clothes under the table, and I didn't realize it until we were at the airport. I didn't even try to get the clothes back since I had left Kauai, but my friend called Big Nick's the next day to see if they had it. Great place to grab a quick affordable lunch with outstanding service!! My husband and I split a double classic burger. It was cooked to perfection.... hot and juicy. I wish it had a spread on the bun for flavor, but that's a personal preference. I'd still order the burger again. The fries were plentiful, hot and super yummy too!! One of my pet peeves is being served luke warm fries. If I am going to eat something not so healthy for myself, I sure as heck don't want to waste it on luke warm food. Even though it was pretty busy, they got the food out in a very timely manner. The place is nice and clean with great music playing. There are about 5 tables inside. An outside deck that has bar stools all along it. Below the deck are plenty of picnic tables. As other reviews have said there is not a public restroom, but I wouldn't let that keep you from coming here! The place was packed. Burgers are good but call ahead. There were two people in line and it took us more than 45 minutes to order and get our food, with no heads up. Or we would have left. Not how we wanted to spend our day. There were local laborers coming to get large pickups and they don't prioritize any on site orders. Picnic tables available in a nice farm-like setting surrounded by pretty trees. So, if you enjoy staring at them for hours go ahead and visit. The grumpy burgers was delicious. Bun was soft, bacon crispy. Meat was tender. Just a hint of blue cheese and jalapeño. It was also restaurant priced at $18 (for reference, a burger is $25 at the nicest hotel on the island). Fries were above average but not the best we had on the island. Fresh Bite Kauai food truck in Hanalei had perfect, boardwalk fries. Bottom line. Worth it if no wait. But don't wait an hour for a burger here. Note: There are no substitutions now as previous reviews might have indicated. read more

We arrived to Hanalei as a day trip from Lihue and wanted something quick before we got back on the road. Big Nicks smelled amazing every time we walked by so we gave it a shot. Staff was friendly, seating inside and outside is limited but you can call for to go orders as well. The burgers were great, they had canned Coke products in a fridge you could grab, portions were generous and we loved the crispy onion strings appetizer. Wife had the French Dip Friday special, which was so good she actually drank the rest of the jus after finishing her sandwich! I had the Big Nick burger and was completely satisfied. The meat tastes SO good and fresh, the thick cut fries were hot and crispy. Even the lettuce and tomato were fresh and ripe. Pro tip: We found them next to a school, in a dirt lot. Plenty of room to park, but know it can be kind of an adventure. They have sauces available, but you won't need them. Only one folding table + 4 chairs, so be prepared to order To Go or stand around. I am writing in response to the business owner, Nick. Unfortunately, your employees were rude which prompted a negative review. Asking for accommodations such as no lettuce or no meat is not something I would consider as a sense of entitlement. You work in the service industry, therefore, it is the expectation that you attempt to make customers happy, no? Your response is appalling and now I see where your employees get their attitudes. We respect this island and the businesses that have been so kind to our family. We have come to this island multiple times and have never encountered a business such as yours. Thankfully. I hope that your resentment towards tourists changes because it is effecting the way you/your employees interact with customers. I really cannot understand why it was made such a big deal to make accommodations. The young man said, "it would be too difficult and we can't accommodate to make changes..."--we just asked for no meat. I was absolutely dumbfounded to hear your employee tell us that!!!
