Very tasty! Nice menu options. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was fine but nothing special. Price was a little high for what it is, though not outrageous. I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to pizza. I grew up in Chicago and pre-COVID, I used to go to New York on business a lot. So, I've had the best pizza and didn't expect much in Lawrence. But I came here while on a trip and was pleasantly surprised! It's Detroit style, I would say. Just great. When we came, the staff practiced social distancing and our server was really friendly. Boy do I love me some Detroit style pizza, and this place doesn't disappoint! We did takeout and ordered on their website. The corn bisque was delicious- I recommend. Then we split the kale and smoked beet salad which is great. We loved both the sausage pizza (that cherry pepper relish!!) and the chicken bbq pizza. My only complaints were that they forgot the jalapeño honey sides we asked for (though they also didn't charge us for it), and the Fritos on the bbq pizza were stale. The manager was extremely rude and conceited. In navigating a very full and new restaurant to me, I evidently stepped into a staff area where I was ordered out of. As I tried to explain I was just headed to the restroom she jumped into my personal space yelling at me about couldn't come through. Given the congestion and not knowing where else to go I stepped forward where she began a dramatic episode claiming she was shoved out of the way. I was ordered to leave by her and in doing so our four tables of family and friends who saw everything also left. It was very disappointing that this young lady's desire to control led to such poor service. We wish her well and hope she is able to find peace that she can't control everything. read more

Love when new places open up on town. They each have their own unique history and character. Big Mill is no exception. The decor pays homage to its own history as a former laundromat and the history of Lawrence and its Mill. The prices are affordable and there is enough variety to satisfy and wife range of customers. We opted for one of their pizzas and the Mill salad. I really enjoyed my salad. The portion was huge, so it felt like a deal for $9. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the items on their menu! It will be a great place to meet friends and hang out. I'm shocked (SHOCKED I say) that I haven't heard people raving about Big Mill. Chose it because I had my 3 kids with us and thought it seemed like more laid back dining. While it was that, it was some of the best laid back dining I've ever done. Smokey chicken wings are incredible with jalapeño blue cheese dressing and pickled celery. I grew up on Detroit style pizza--their pans are legit and some of the best I've ever had. And the homemade ricotta as a cheese topping gives it a unique, refined touch. Cocktails were on point--I wanted to buy a couple to-go. Try the amphora. Fish and chips was fantastic too and while I also grew up on Walleye and it was perfectly breaded and fried, the unique stand out was the malt vinegar tartar sauce. It wasn't busy at 3pm, but our service was great (sometimes servers just phone it in in times like that). I could go on but will wait till I go back. Probably won't be long. read more

Opted for lunch here based on former reviews. Driving over from the west we like to try new things. The service was wonderful & the sausage pizza was all we wanted it to be. My husband ordered the fish & chips and was not disappointed! I found the house salad to be fresh and the yogurt dressing was so light amd refreshing! Next time I won't try to finish the pizza alone (it's a lot of bread), will ask for a box up front the next time to take 1/2 home for another tasty meal at home. read more

Came here and got the night moves and sausage pizzas - they were delicious! Also got the white bean hummus- nice garnishes, really made it different in the best way. Last was the beet salad with the quinoa patty- very good! Service was fast! Highly recommend, we will be back! read more

For the city of Lawrence, the food here is one of the better places imo. I'm only sad I hadn't tried it sooner. We picked up take out. When we ordered online, we were provided a time to come in to pick up the food. We brought it home, and it held up fine in the to go containers; it didn't get soggy. The fries have something added (Parmesan shaker cheese maybe?). The food came with a yummy aioli dipping sauce that we dipped our fries in. I had a burger with a hot sauce on it that was really good. My friend had another burger type that he really enjoyed. I may have liked an option to have fixings for a burger like lettuce pickles tomatoes and onion. However, it might have changed the burger to have not tasted as good. The food was ready pretty quickly. It was great because it was a busy day for us, and we hadn't really planned anything for dinner. We really enjoyed our dinner. read more

But let me tell you about the fries instead, even after delivery all the way across town (which was waaaay faster than the website predicted) everything was hot and crisp and amazing. In town for an event and staying nearby, we stopped in on a Saturday and were seated inside right away for an early dinner. The burgers we ordered were 3 stars - the brioche buns were dry and left the burgers underwhelming. The pizza our table ordered was fantastic! The place is really cute! I love their check-in counter, a homage to the old laundry mat! The service was a little spotty but our poor waitress had at least five other tables and she did her best! Went for our first time to celebrate a family birthday, and asked to sit outside. We quickly became cold (silly us!) and I would recommend investing in outdoor space heaters. There are already tvs outside, so this should be an easy fix. That said, we went on a Friday (5pm) with 5 in our party. No apps or drinks, all ordering pizza but one, and waited about 25 minutes for the food to arrive. I ordered the pickled tomato & bacon pizza and would gladly order that again. The other pizzas were pepperoni & sausage, and it seemed from the waitstaffer that any variation of toppings (yes, pepperoni & sausage is not listed on the menu) from the listed menu groupings would be somewhat complicated. Not sure why... yes, it's an 'upscale' pizza place, but guys, it's a pizza place a stone's throw from a public university. I feel flexibility in pizza toppings should be routine, not exceptional. The 'non pizza' order was fish & chips, which was listed as an app ('sharable') but came looking like an entree, and was enjoyed. $80 for 4 pizzas and fish & chips, even at a bougie pizza place, seems a lot to ask (oh- we did order 2 lemonades), but then 'it's Lawrence' so I guess we should be unsurprised. The upshot? I will certainly be going back, probably for tomato & bacon pizza, but not with family- I'll take my bougie girlfriends, instead. read more

This place is great! I got the chicken sandwich, which is made with chicken thighs!!! I am not an avid lover of chicken breast so I was really excited to order it and it did not disappoint. The pickled purple cabbage that came with the chicken sandwich was amazing. My other half got the mill burger, it was delicious! It came with some sauce that was perfect with regular fries and sweet potato fries. I also got the zeppole and it was really good. My new favorite place in Lawrence now!!! So glad we came here. Biggest plus is that the restaurant is abiding by the social distancing mandate. One door for entrance and another for exiting. Staff wears masks and are seating people every other table.
