This shop is amazing! I had an exhaust leak due to some damage at a flange connection in my 2022 Ram. I had taken it to another shop who said they couldn't fix it but said they would replace the entire section including the 2 catalytic converters for an astronomical amount. Ted told me to bring it in and he would take a look at it. Ted jumped on it and called me shortly after I dropped it off. Ted sent pictures of the cracked pipe causing the leak and said he thought he could fix it. A couple hours later, Ted called and said he was able to fix the problem and my truck was ready. Ted is an amazing fabricator and welder. In addition he is just a great easygoing guy and very professional. I am so happy with the work he did on my exhaust. My car sounds so much nicer and I really enjoy driving it. My car sounds sporty but not obnoxious or drony. Also if I want I can do a quiet mode with the flip of a switch. We've been going to Big Jim's ever since we moved to Phoenix. They have great prices on their oil changes and I LOVE that they never try to get you to do "extra" work that really is not necessary. I really trust Jim and his son-in-law to take care of our cars. This past Tuesday, sometime during the day, the passenger side catalytic converter was stolen off of my Toyota Tacoma, and they attempted to steal the one on the driver side as well, but gave up. I called one muffler shop to see what it might cost to replace and fix everything. He said to replace it with an OEM Toyota cat, the part alone would likely cost $1800.00. He said that he could replace it with an aftermarket cat, but he had not had much luck with those on post 2001 Toyota, they can cause the system to throw a "check engine" light, so he couldn't guarantee them, but would do that for $300. After calling my insurance company and filing a claim, I called one of their recommended shops. Speaking with the owner of that shop, he said we could go through my insurance and they would replace it with an OEM Toyota cat; however, he said if it were him, he'd get an aftermarket cat to replace it with, and it would likely be less then my deductible. When I told him what the other muffler guy had said, he told me that they had replace lots of aftermarket cats on Toyota's with no problems. He then gave me Teds name and number at Big Jim's Custom Exhausts, told me that he was a real straight shooter who did great work, that I should ask Ted's opinion, and if Ted thought it was ok, he would go that way. If not, I could always call him back and go through my insurance. I called Ted, spoke to him for a little while, and got a very good feeling about him. Took my truck down so he could look at it, and he was the one who pointed out that not only had they stolen the cat on the passenger side, but they had tried to get the one on the driver side but gave up. He said he could put in a good aftermarket cat for $420, and fix the driver side damage for around $30-40, plus tax. I then asked him about putting in a complete new exhaust system to let the truck breath a little more, and after asking me how many miles were on it Ted said, "You know, I would just leave the stock exhaust system on it". "I've seen way too many people have lots of problems with headers and have to replace them all the time". "Maybe in a little while we could put a Magnaflow muffler on it that wouldn't have as much back pressure as the stock muffler, that's what I'd do". Now he could have said "Sure! A whole new exhaust system, I can do that"! And made a lot of money off of me. But, he shot me straight and gave me his honest opinion. Dropped the truck off this morning and it was all fixed this afternoon. I'm bringing it in again to him next week so he can weld some cold-rolled steel bars to my exhaust pipes to deter my catalytic converters from getting stolen again. Big Jim's is a family run business. They have been around for many, many years but they just moved they're location across the street from where they used to be. I have been there several times now. They got me a new catalytic converter for my Chevy cheaper than anyone else in town could offer. They even do a bunch of extras for free when I just bring it in for an oil change. When I asked if I needed a new "this or that", Jim said it was all fine and I didn't need anything else. At most places, they lie and tell you you need something even when you don't. Jim seems to pride himself on being honest and he is!!!!!!!!!!! They are so easy and pleasant to deal with anytime I need to take my car in for anything.
