So this was my second time at big hot crab and I have no idea what happened during the six month gap between my first and second visit but WOAH. Unlike the lovely service we had going there the first time, the service at the restaurant today was severely lacking. Our server just put our drinks in the middle of the table and we had to figure out whose drink was whose. When the food came out, my friend asked if they had a small crab fork. She looked at him confused and then went and got him, I kid you not, the largest dinner fork I've ever seen. Another server came to check on us and when my friend asked again about a small crab fork, the server explained "oh no we only have those large forks sorry." And then left. The food itself was great but the corn in my bag was BARELY cooked, which was really disappointing. The restaurant also applies tip for you so...do with that what you will. read more

We came here on a Sunday evening (7:40pm) and was seated right away. There's two sections of seating - booths and then the other side has tables. We were seated on the table side. Spacious on that side to hold big groups. We ordered the house sauce with 1/2lb shrimp, mussels, and snow crab cluster. We added also, two corns, potatoes, and a bread. If you are a weenie with spice like me- stay with the mild side. Was just enough kick for me. All cost about $55 (w/o tip); which is good pricing. The shrimps were decent sizing. Something to try once for the experience, but that's where it ends. It's an old Waffle shop that they've put zero money into but honestly charge more than much nicer restaurants for the same experience in Sacramento. Don't get me wrong the food was good and the people there were super nice, but the price was rather shocking for two of us. We're used to spending a lot of money out in Chico and surrounding areas but for what we got, it was quite surprising and will not be going back. read more

Getting really expensive for what you get, and trust that I know seafood and crab are not cheap! The quality wasn't great either, all the weight was in the shells with barely any meat in the leg. I love seafood and everything else is good, I'll try again for sure but can only go back so many more times before I decide it's not worth it anymore. read more

Delicious and family friendly! I was visiting from out of town with my daughter, her hubby and 3 young grandsons. Everyone left full and happy! The big dinner was amazing.. we had mussels, crab, and shrimp, as well as corn and potatoes in the mild sauce. The sauce was perfect, and seafood was amazing. For starters, we had two baskets of fries, which were to die for. The kids had the chicken tenders, and they were happy as well. Great service and fun atmosphere. This was my first coming here. The boss was being a word that can't say when we got sitting the slip my kid to a different side of restaurant. There was one lady working there that will order cajin fires and she was eating them in front on us. The bathroom was the most disgusting like I can throw up the food was cold when we got it. read more

I don't want to bash the place, but compared to other sea food boil restaurants this one has been my worse experience. We ordered half a pound of shrimp with corn, rice, potato, and snow crab leg and some fries. My bag of shrimp had no sauce what so ever. It was barely coated with any sauce plus there was no flavor at all. I ordered my half pound of Shrimp with lemon pepper and extra hot. None of those flavors were displayed. If you're looking for a flavorful seafood place I suggest spending your money elsewhere. read more

I went here with some friends and we loved this place! Prices were pretty good for all of us and we left stuffed! We got lots of shrimp, corn, potatoes, sausages, 2 fries, and some crab which came out to around $25 each for the five of us. Went here not too long ago and the food was good for the most part. The Lemmon pepper fries are amazing but the shrimp seems to be of a very low quality and they serve them whole and not deveined so there is the poop lining still in them. My partner and I both had extreme stomach problems after leaving. Staff was very friendly and they had great customer service l, so it was disappointing to be so ill after our meal. read more

I recently moved to Chico from the Sacramento Area and I've been CRAVING crab. My boyfriend took me to this restaurant and I was very surprised! To think that Chico would have good seafood boil! I had the snow crab cluster with house seasoning and it was so good! The serving size of crab was almost double the size I get at boiling crab for basically the same price and the quality wasn't sacrificed. We were seated super quickly and throughout our meal the staff checked on us and made sure everything was perfect. I loved the crab trap decorations in the restaurant. This place is a unique experience and super fun to go to with a group! I lost my ring there and went back to see if they by chance had it. They had a good size lost and found and made me meticulously describe it and gave it back. It was my own fault for losing it but I really appreciated getting it back! Sooo good. We come here all the time since they've opened. One bad thing, sometimes the potatoes are under cooked, but mostly it is superb !

The crab was good! Not over cooked! So was the shrimp. Next time i will double the crab and do without the corn and potatoes.

I've been wanting to try a Cajun style seafood in a bag place for a while but was always far away from them so when this opportunity came up, I needed to give it a try. Arrived at the place and had to wait for 1/2 hour to get a table and there were empty tables. I believe they were short of staff since I only saw two waitresses handling the whole restaurant. Order a combo for two - three people that included Cajun fries, 2 corns on the cob, 1 lb. of shrimp, 1 lb. of king crab legs, and ordered an extra lb. of snow crab legs with a small bowl of rice. The sauce was garlic butter with a mild spice. They covered the table with a sheet of paper, gave everyone a bib and the food came out all mixed in a plastic bag and the waitress asked us if we wanted them dumped on the table and we did. The seafood was fresh and tasty, just a little messy so it might not be for everyone. Definitely a different experience and I'll try one in the east coast the next time. read more

Food is great. Service, not so much. They didn't open the doors to the restaurant until 20 minutes after opening time. Said they couldn't make a side of their amazing house sauce. A $25 lobster tail was the size of a small orange. On busy nights, the wait can be as long as 45 minutes for a table and no one thinks to at least start a ticket for drink orders while you wait. Obviously, the food must be amazing since people always come back. I also love that there is a hand washing sink available near the entrance/exit outside of the bathrooms. You WILL need it afterwards for sure. read more
