CRUNCHY taco!

My CRISPY taco meal. I opened as soon as I got home because I was starving! I live less than 3 miles away.. Also ordered a wet burrito and it was dry... I didn't realize a wet burrito could be dry burrito. The order of chips and salsa was good. :-/

The service was fast. Hostess let us pick where to sit and immediately got asked our drink choices and got chips and salsa, and a really big size of chips! We ordered and food came out in about 6 minutes. Very impressed! Prices were par and the food was great. I got the huevos con chorizo and he got the fajita lunch. Flavor was so good! Didn't have to add any spices or sauces. Definitely would go back! The expedition of everything made it a nice in and out stop!!

Shrimp fajitas and chicken nachos.

I was so excited to try this place since I had heard great reviews on both the Foodies of Chico Facebook page and on Yelp-- but what the heck?? I don't know if I had high hopes because of what I heard but damn, it was not impressive at all. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken nachos and shrimp fajita plate. The nachos were basic AF and there was some type of gross cream on it that just sat and made the bottom watery (we got the sour cream on the side so no, it was not melted sour cream). The chicken tasted like tuna to me, and there was not one tasty thing about it. We had MAYBE 3 nachos each and were over it. The shrimp fajitas were a tad bit better, but really just the actual fajita skillet that had the grilled onions, peppers, and the shrimp. I think, to be honest, the best part of the meal was the salsa that they give you with the chips. Their beans and rice were dry and meh. I'm super sad because I loveeeeee Mexican food and was super stoked to try this place, but I probably won't ever go back.

I was sober for 11 years before I stepped foot into this restaurant. The waiter mistakingly placed a pitcher of blackberry margarita on my table, and following a regretful bout with my ex wife Kelly I couldn't help myself but to drink the entire pitcher. Later in the night, drunken and ashamed, they actually had the nerve to ask ME to pay for it. Tonight is the third night I've spent alone in this motel room, and one of the last nights I think I have left before my credit card declines. Kelly I miss you. Please come back. Franz jr. I hope you know how much your father loves you.

If only the food quality matched the colorful place.

Salsa a mediocre, somewhat disappointing serving for such well regarded establishment. Certainly in the lower tier of the well loved quality Salsas. 2 Stars. Chips plain average. 2 Stars. Lunch menu, Chili Relleno and Crunchy Taco an uneventful fast lunch serving. Beans salty, the tiny presence of guacamole near frozen, Rice a little better. Dull and uninspiring offering. 3 Stars. House Carnitas, boasting of being home made, long ways for upper placement. Chewy, while also managing to be dried, back to Carnitas 101. At best 3 Stars. Soda bottle ($3.50) water drinkable. Place looked colorful, service adequate. Someone extremely kind and nice suggested this place, a little hard to tell her how mediocre everything was. Total with gratuity way past $60. By reading the reviews of this place, expectations were met by reality, and let's just say it did not pan out. So this place merits 4.3 Stars on average? I respectfully disagree. 3 Stars.

Good service by our server Vicky and others. Nice free thin, crisp, fresh tasting chips brought right away to our table and came with salsa that was good (although for my taste buds could have used a little bit less salt). Cheese Chili Relleno was really awesome. Actually one of the best Chili Rellenos I've ever enjoyed in my 72 years on this planet and I'll definitely will be coming back for many more of them assuming they're consist. Delicious: $3.75 Chicken Tostada was flavorless however as I see it to make up for that (I suppose I ought to have put some of their salsa on it) it had a major amount of shredded chicken on it. $3.00 I'll come back for that as well. Side order of Rice was ok, a bit dry or maybe slightly tired/old $2.50 That could just be a one time thing. Time will tell and so come check the rice out for yourself or wait for my review after I come back. :-) :-) Side order of Beans was good $2.50 If you order both a side order of rice and beans = $3.50 They have a decent selection of bottled beers including my Mexican favorite Negra Modelo at $3.75 which includes a lime and in a refrigerated heavy mug if you like.

Love love LOVE this place. It took me a long time to come here because other reviews made me…read moreskeptical that I would be impressed, but I am, and this has become one of our consistent go-tos. They have absolutely NAILED their Pana Cotta. Normally, I wouldn't be a huge fan of pana cottas as it has come across to gelatin-y in the past, but I get it every time. The service is amazing. It is clear they are aiming to offer an elevated experience. That being said, it is on the longer side of a meal, and I find it much more enjoyable when I accept the leisurely pace and order an appetizer. When I do order an appetizer, the meal seems perfectly paced. Without it, it could seem a bit slow. I've loved the zucchini blossoms, calamari, and Caesar salad. (I do really like the burrata ones as well, but it's just so easy to make on your own from Trader Joes at a much lower premium.) I also love that they offer complementary focaccia, which used to be made in house. I don't believe it is now, but it is still very good. My fave dishes to get are anything with their droolworthy polenta like their chicken or veal saltimbocca (I prefer the chicken) for dinner or their chicken marsala for lunch. The chicken marsala probably is my absolute favorite, which means I HAVE to come here for their lunch sometimes, which are only Thursday and Friday. Really lovely atmosphere. I have and love to sit on their porch but no longer do because of the traffic noise. Chico designed Bruce with the traffic light right there and it's so bad - basically a raceway for meatheads in their loud trucks and motorcycles when the light turns green. Mosquitos absolutely become a problem so while I love that they sometimes put up the garage style doors/windows when the weather is nice to create a lovely indoor/outdoor experience, if you're a mosquito magnet like me, that is not the time for you to come in without mosquito protection. (One time was so bad that even though they closed it, I left with - I kid you not, I counted - no less that 18 mosquito bites on my calf.

The copper accents are beautiful and the seating was comfortable. Unfortunately, it was super busy so I would recommend sitting outside for a more romantic and private ambience. My blackened salmon tacos were delicious and we cleaned off the plate within a handful of minutes. I really loved the pickled onions on the side and the crispy outside layer of the salmon pieces. If you're going for a romantic night out with your squeeze, or celebrating something special, ask to sit in the "wine room". We both ordered the twin tails, which have gone up in price and down in quality, since our last visit. The lobster was undercooked, chewy with an odd purple color and unappetizing texture. I asked for mine to be cooked more, my husband did not, as he does not send food back. When it was brought back, it was still not cooked all the way and still had a translucent look on one side. It remained chewy and unappetizing, rather than the delicious and savory lobster we have enjoyed in the past. The mashed potatoes, which used to be to die for, were just ok and the portion size has shrunk. The arugula dish on the plate was merely ok as well. It used to be so tasty that I tried to recreate it at home, this was just a bit of salty and bitter greens. The bread was not served until after the meal arrived and they were out of the yummy brown bread. This meal seemed hastily thrown together, rather than thoughtfully prepared, as it as been in the past. It was very disappointing. We did enjoy the music on the patio, which added ambience to the outdoor dining experience. The "anniversary menu" they gave us was a nice touch.

Our favs have been the Japanese Tacos, Gyoza, Sushi Sampler Plate and any number of rolls. The side salad with the Wasabi dressing has always been and is still delicious! Every place can have an off day or item but the last two visits leave us looking for other options. The sauce for the Japanese Tacos has become so spicy hot we've had to have them hold it - something's changed there. The gyoza (2 orders for one person and one order for the second person were all served on the same plate, forgivable but they were bland and the sauces were spilled when the waitress set them down. The Sushi sampler contained "room temp", not cold raw fish and was literally flavorless AND the rice tasted old and chalky. I tried the spicy tuna roll the month before and I could not eat it. It was flavorless and warm. Our last visit's service was very poor. Had to ask more than once for the basic wasabi and ginger. Then we had to ask for our beverages again halfway through our meal. Used to be awesome but this is two poor experiences in a row. I've been enjoying Japanese cuisine throughout California my entire life and this just wasn't worth it. The place is also loud and rushed.
