    CRUNCHY taco!

My CRISPY taco meal. I opened as soon as I got home because I was starving! I live less than 3 miles away.. Also ordered a wet burrito and it was dry... I didn't realize a wet burrito could be dry burrito. The order of chips and salsa was good. :-/

The service was fast. Hostess let us pick where to sit and immediately got asked our drink choices and got chips and salsa, and a really big size of chips! We ordered and food came out in about 6 minutes. Very impressed! Prices were par and the food was great. I got the huevos con chorizo and he got the fajita lunch. Flavor was so good! Didn't have to add any spices or sauces. Definitely would go back! The expedition of everything made it a nice in and out stop!!

I was so excited to try this place since I had heard great reviews on both the Foodies of Chico Facebook page and on Yelp-- but what the heck?? I don't know if I had high hopes because of what I heard but damn, it was not impressive at all. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken nachos and shrimp fajita plate. The nachos were basic AF and there was some type of gross cream on it that just sat and made the bottom watery (we got the sour cream on the side so no, it was not melted sour cream). The chicken tasted like tuna to me, and there was not one tasty thing about it. We had MAYBE 3 nachos each and were over it. The shrimp fajitas were a tad bit better, but really just the actual fajita skillet that had the grilled onions, peppers, and the shrimp. I think, to be honest, the best part of the meal was the salsa that they give you with the chips. Their beans and rice were dry and meh. I'm super sad because I loveeeeee Mexican food and was super stoked to try this place, but I probably won't ever go back.

I was sober for 11 years before I stepped foot into this restaurant. The waiter mistakingly placed a pitcher of blackberry margarita on my table, and following a regretful bout with my ex wife Kelly I couldn't help myself but to drink the entire pitcher. Later in the night, drunken and ashamed, they actually had the nerve to ask ME to pay for it. Tonight is the third night I've spent alone in this motel room, and one of the last nights I think I have left before my credit card declines. Kelly I miss you. Please come back. Franz jr. I hope you know how much your father loves you.

If only the food quality matched the colorful place.

Salsa a mediocre, somewhat disappointing serving for such well regarded establishment. Certainly in the lower tier of the well loved quality Salsas. 2 Stars. Chips plain average. 2 Stars. Lunch menu, Chili Relleno and Crunchy Taco an uneventful fast lunch serving. Beans salty, the tiny presence of guacamole near frozen, Rice a little better. Dull and uninspiring offering. 3 Stars. House Carnitas, boasting of being home made, long ways for upper placement. Chewy, while also managing to be dried, back to Carnitas 101. At best 3 Stars. Soda bottle ($3.50) water drinkable. Place looked colorful, service adequate. Someone extremely kind and nice suggested this place, a little hard to tell her how mediocre everything was. Total with gratuity way past $60. By reading the reviews of this place, expectations were met by reality, and let's just say it did not pan out. So this place merits 4.3 Stars on average? I respectfully disagree. 3 Stars.

Good service by our server Vicky and others. Nice free thin, crisp, fresh tasting chips brought right away to our table and came with salsa that was good (although for my taste buds could have used a little bit less salt). Cheese Chili Relleno was really awesome. Actually one of the best Chili Rellenos I've ever enjoyed in my 72 years on this planet and I'll definitely will be coming back for many more of them assuming they're consist. Delicious: $3.75 Chicken Tostada was flavorless however as I see it to make up for that (I suppose I ought to have put some of their salsa on it) it had a major amount of shredded chicken on it. $3.00 I'll come back for that as well. Side order of Rice was ok, a bit dry or maybe slightly tired/old $2.50 That could just be a one time thing. Time will tell and so come check the rice out for yourself or wait for my review after I come back. :-) :-) Side order of Beans was good $2.50 If you order both a side order of rice and beans = $3.50 They have a decent selection of bottled beers including my Mexican favorite Negra Modelo at $3.75 which includes a lime and in a refrigerated heavy mug if you like.

Nope. The staff was not welcoming, our party was seated at two tables, close physical proximity, but 40 minutes apart in dining. When asked about the pending meals and excessive wait time, the server blamed a guest and said that it was his fault for ordering the chicken which took 35 minutes to cook. The check included a pre determined 20 % tip for sub par service. On a positive note, the lobster tail was tasty and the restaurant ambiance was cute. I can't get over the poor service though:(

Fish was very fresh and tasty. Finally, finished up with California roll. Very nice, but more crab, less cream cheese. Our favs have been the Japanese Tacos, Gyoza, Sushi Sampler Plate and any number of rolls. The side salad with the Wasabi dressing has always been and is still delicious! Every place can have an off day or item but the last two visits leave us looking for other options. The sauce for the Japanese Tacos has become so spicy hot we've had to have them hold it - something's changed there. The gyoza (2 orders for one person and one order for the second person were all served on the same plate, forgivable but they were bland and the sauces were spilled when the waitress set them down. The Sushi sampler contained "room temp", not cold raw fish and was literally flavorless AND the rice tasted old and chalky. I tried the spicy tuna roll the month before and I could not eat it. It was flavorless and warm. Our last visit's service was very poor. Had to ask more than once for the basic wasabi and ginger. Then we had to ask for our beverages again halfway through our meal. Used to be awesome but this is two poor experiences in a row. I've been enjoying Japanese cuisine throughout California my entire life and this just wasn't worth it. The place is also loud and rushed.

They are famous for their Poké bowl, but we only did sushi this time (my willpower deserves recognition).. The edamame was excellent and their miso soup is still one of my favorites anywhere. It just tastes different... richer and more intentional than the usual versions. I'm a huge saba fan and theirs was exactly why I keep coming back... clean, fresh and done right. My kid had the tataki and it was the same story there, super fresh and gone in about thirty seconds. We also had the Gilroy (yum) Japanese Cowboy, Red Dragon, Hibachi Sunset and Lotus Cobra. The Lotus Cobra is one of those rolls you order once and then it just becomes part of your future. The ambiance is probably my favorite in Chico. It's one of those places where you can have a great meal and some top tier people watching at the same time. Service is always solid, friendly without being fake, and everything from the dining area to the bathrooms is consistently clean. I'll just say it... I wish we had a place like this back on the Mendocino Coast. Until then, this is always going to be my Chico sushi stop. I've been craving the oyster hot shots and Shaka tuna for yeeeears. I've even tried recreating those hot shots at home more times than I'd like to admit, and I still can't crack whatever magic they're doing back there. Now onto the new stuff. We ordered the special dry-aged nigiri sampler, and my mom couldn't stop talking about how much it reminded her of the way fish and sushi are treated in Japan. Thoughtful, balanced, and intentional. It was such a refreshing break from the AYCE-style spots where the fish-to-rice ratios can feel quite careless. Almost forgot! Our server was amazing. Gah I forgot his name. So professional and knowledgeable about everrrrrything. We were super comfortable in the new lounge area, which I would say is much cozier and dare I say sexier than the old motif which was kinda industrial. If they ever open a location in Los Angeles (hint, hint), I'd be first in line.
