Visited September 5 2026. See my receipt as always. I haven't been here in years. It is in Oroville. The reason we stopped coming is because they used to have a really rude waitress ( Spanish lady ). It was so refreshing to see upbeat employees! MELEE waited on me and she was AWESOME! I remembered her from another restaurant that closed a few years ago. Still hard working and friendly! I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas. It came with tortillas and rice and beans with sour cream. The steak had a really nice sear on it! The shrimp was grilled perfectly! Plenty of peppers and onions as well! DELICIOUS! They also have a full bar with additional seating at the bar. Although no outdoor seating the restaurant is very spacious! I had a great experience and I will definitely be back soon!! I also bought a children's beef enchilada from the childs menu with rice and beans to go! Ps. Free complimentary chips and salsa and bean dip read more

A friend and I were headed to an MMA event just north of Oroville and needed a quick bite to eat, so pulled off and hit Yelp to find something good in the area. Vallarta Grill looked like a good option so we headed over. This was a Saturday evening (about 6pm)... they were busy, but had no trouble seating us within a couple minutes (the host had to duck out to clean the booth for us). The menu is very complete - lots of options! It was honestly tough to make a choice. I chose the Lamb Shank, which included an enchilada. I was given the choice of ground beef, shredded beef or chicken for the enchilada. I asked if I could somehow upgrade to a shrimp enchilada and was politely declined. My date chose the chile verde. I also ordered coconut shrimp as an appetizer. First up was the coconut shrimp - first impression: I was surprised at how "flat" they were! Obviously it was intentional, but flatter than anything I've seen or had before. I jokingly called them "road kill shrimp" and my date slapped me. They were good, though, and I understood and appreciated the reason(s) for flattening them - more surface area for the breading, even cooking and easy to scoop up the yummy sauce. Next up were the main dishes - the Lamb Shank was good... imo, I would have liked the sauce to be a little thicker, but the flavor was good. I really liked the enchilada too. I didn't have a ton of the rice and beans just because I normally don't eat much of that - but it was good, better than I've had elsewhere! I had a bite of my friend's chile verde too and give it a thumbs up. I love flan. I was full enough that I didn't need to order flan, but I couldn't leave without giving the flan a try. I'm glad I did! The flan was very good, some of the best I've had in a while. Overall, great meal and I wouldn't hesitate to drop by again if I was in the area. read more

After a long hike and drive I was excited to finally dig into some good food. I pulled into a busy plaza with plenty parking. The host was very friendly and I immediately got sat down. To my surprise they gave me complimentary chips and salsa with bean dip. It was good my favorite was the bean dip. The horchata had a little too much ice for me. I ordered a wet burrito (~$24) and it was decent. Everything was served to me so fast, excellent service. In my opinion it was on the more expensive side but it's a sit down restaurant so you're paying for that experience. I enjoyed my experience overall I would recommend this to someone who likes quality Mexican food. read more

Good atmosphere , clean restaurant, nice servers, tasty food, lots of choices! It's a great place to go with the family in town.

Not very good once again the food was bland I will start ahead of COVID there for a minute. Cause I could taste anything and it was so greasy. It can't even eat my taco. So trying to eat an hour taco with somebody's grease. And it was awful. What would do group of church ladies? Next time? I'll just go and feel a ship. I won't order anything. read more

It is very good, but so immensely expensive that we cannot return for a very long time. No alcohol or dessert, no appetizers, and left spending $85. Just a regular Mexican restaurant, so not sure how it can be so expensive. read more

Food here is so good. I've yet to have anything I dislike from this establishment. Servers are always friendly and quick.

Best ever free chips and bean dip! My daughter loved her small guacamole too. Food was fine but not as good as those delicious chips & beans!! Great servers & staff. We would def come back again! read more

Good food, tasted authentic. service and servers were nice and attentative. Restrooms were clean and a lot of available parking.

The customer service was absolutely amazing! Wonderful to talk to and over all top notch service, However the food was sub par, I've been twice now and ordered quite a variety. Not my favorite but not too bad either. Overall I found it lacking unfortunately. read more

Been in Oroville the last couple days and came to this restaurant. I'm always up for Mexican food and having heard everything here is inexpensive, this visit was a no-brainer. Your standard chips and salsa await as you as you sit down. (This isn't a dig in any way. I'm just pointing that out.) And you get a serving of beans. I liked their salsa, it had more spice and flavor than what I've experienced in other local Mexican restaurants. It also looked very red, which made it all the more appetizing. I ordered the enchiladas with chicken. It came with rice and beans. If you don't want one, you can substitute and get double rice, or double beans. The enchiladas definitely did it for me - stuffed with chicken, and the mole sauce they used had a little bit of a smokey flavor. I like mole to be on the savory side, and this mole was! Rice was fine, I didn't get those hard little bits that occasionally pop up when you cook rice. Beans are always good in my opinion, just don't eat too many of them. The service we had left something to be desired. Our waiter was disorganized and we had to summon a waitress waiting other tables for refills. It seemed only ours wasn't on top of things - all the other workers were putting in the effort. New staff member? From the outside it looks small, but on the inside it's a whole other story: ample seating and plenty of room in the back if you have a large group of people wanting to eat here. I love places where you can go right on in, sit down, order something quickly and get in and out in half an hour. And if the food's cheap, that's even better! I would be more than interested in visiting again someday in the near future. read more

Great food at a reasonable price. Good size portions. I will go again next time I'm in the area.

Not a winner. I had a mole with chicken that was stringy, dry and the sauce was as far from a real mole as we are from Mexico. Service was indifferent and occasional. When the best part of the meal is the chips and salsa before the entree, it is sad. It is not that hard to make decent Mexican food, but it is out of the realm of possibility for this place read more

Well so far my favorite. They're a restaurant to beat in little town Oroville. They may be a bit pricey but guaranteed to be worth the price. I definitely recommend during less busier times of the day, you may be forgotten. read more

Too hot to cook so we decided on fish tacos. Until we saw the menu. I try odd man out on menus. What I mean is I try the things that look most out of place on a menu. Tonight it was the lamb shank and enchilada plate. My husband ordered the seafood enchilada and we had the taquitos ranchero for appy. The lamb shank was out of this world. 5 stars just for the lamb. It was tender juicy and perfectly spiced. The seafood enchilada was OK, the seafood was a bit overpowered by the cheese and vegetables in enchilada. The frijoles were perfect as well. Service was fast, food great and ambiance was welcoming in as family at thanksgiving. I am kicking myself for being here 2 years before trying it. read more

There's not a lot of places to choose from for menudo in oroville. However we tried this place. Not good pricing or quality. The Menudo is plain w no taste. It comes w tortillas. Very thick condensed with oil. If you don't know the difference then try Casa Lupe in Gridley they are known for their menudo. I give this menudo a 5 at best out of ten. Way overpriced 19$ for one bowl of menudo is way overpriced for me. Especially if it doesn't taste that good. I'm so disappointed by majority food in this area. read more

On our way to a three-day adventure, my man and I stopped here for lunch. It was about 100 degrees and this place didn't have AC. Fortunately, our booth was by a huge fan! Whew! That helped a lot! We started with a refreshing margarita, the perfect way to cool off! The yummy complimentary chips and salsa were served quickly. We shared the Shrimp Fajitas and they were tasty! It was packed with flavor with green peppers, onions, and cilantro. There also was more than enough shrimp for us to share. It was also served with warm corn tortillas with other tasty dishes like beans, rice, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and cheese. A perfect quick stop then off we go! read more

Decided to come here for dinner and ordered the steak fajitas, asada taco, and al pastor taco. Loved that they give you an order of chips, salsa, and bean dip on the house! Our waiter was so funny and everything was incredible. My only complaint is that the steak and al pastor were dry. I'm excited to come back and try their other items. read more

Just about every part of this culinary experience was poor. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa at the beginning, after. That, everything was bad. I had chicken mole, which was old stringy overcooked chicken in a sauce that was the " color" of mole sauce, but that was all. It was just awful. My wife had enchiladas but only had about half of what was served. The service was pretty bad too. Water/ soda refills took a long time. I will not be back. read more

The food here is so good and I'm very picky about my food so when I read a review I decided to try it and I wasn't disappointed at all

We spent the Memorial Day weekend in Oroville. With our expectations set low, we tried Vallarta Grill to quench our desire for Mexican food. Surprisingly the food was pretty dang good! They served us chips and salsa, which is to be expected, but they also serve us a small plate of refried beans. It's the first time ever eating at Mexican restaurants throughout California where we were served refried beans with our tortilla chips! The pairing was absolutely fabulous! I ordered the chili Colorado and my wife ordered the chicken enchilada plate. The food was absolutely delicious and the cost of our meal was reasonable! The next time we come up to Oroville, we will be sure to stop here again! read more

Absolutely the best Mexican restaurant on the West Coast. I was here in 2017, and back then I was shocked and amazed by the spinach and shrimp enchiladas. Flash forward to today, January 2023. Those enchiladas are even better today than they were in 2017. You cannot find fresher Mexican food anywhere. And everything on the plate tasted fantastic. The rice was good, and the beans we're the best I've ever had. My service was fast and extremely friendly. My chips and salsa were always full as was my diet Coke. This is the kind of restaurant that you should drive out of your way to get to. As I mentioned during my review back in 2017, this place does not have great curb appeal. If you didn't know it was there you probably would never even stop here. But, like I said before, thank God for Yelp pointing me to this place. read more

brought a small group of disabled clients in for a meal and had a mostly great experience. The food was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The owner stood out for his kindness, patience, and professionalism. He checked in, made sure we were comfortable, and created a welcoming atmosphere for all of us. The restaurant is also handicap accessible, which made a big difference for our group. That kind of thoughtfulness really matters. Unfortunately, one server made some really inappropriate comments in Spanish--clearly assuming we couldn't understand--saying she couldn't imagine dealing with people like my clients, and remarking that there was "no tip," even though we tipped digitally. She also complained about the "mess" we left, even though it was a perfectly normal level of cleanup for a table of five. That kind of attitude was hurtful and uncalled for. As a DSP (Direct Support Professional), I expect a basic level of respect when I bring my clients into any public space. That said, I want to give full credit to the owner and kitchen staff for making most of our visit truly enjoyable. I hope that server learns from the leadership example being set, because the rest of the team showed what real hospitality looks like. All in all? We had a good time and would love to enjoy a meal together there again! read more

Back again in 2025, still good but not as good as I remember, the fajita meat was not good quality, overall still a good experience though.

Wow!!! I've lived in Texas and southern CA, both of which have a lot of Mexican food places. I've always said I could eat Mexican food every day! Plus, my son-in-law is Hispanic and has taken us to some very authentic restaurants. I tried Vallarta Grill last night, and have fallen in love with this place. I love the chili verde! I have tried other items from the menu, and are all delicious, but the verde it my absolute favorite I have ever had from any Mexican restaurant.
