And I've been trying to go to new places in Chico to renew my appreciation for the town and what it has to offer. Relleno plate - the bomb! Relleno was fresh no seeds no stem and amazing flavor! Rice and beans same and on point. Chips and salsa - yummy flavorful and crunchy! Delisious dipped in the beans with some rice!! Al Pastor taco - I never had been served stripps but the flavor was great and it was a nice sized taco! Great salsa on top too! Went back and we crafted two burritos Relleno burrito with carnitas - this was fire and on point the flavors were perfect and it fed me three times! Chili verde burrito - wet with chili verde on top! The sauce is amazing and different so full of flavor and was a perfect burrito! Horchata is the bomb also - I have a hard time with some places because of the thickness or lack of flavor and theirs does not disappoint it was delicious! I came in on 3/30 around 4pm with my friend, I ordered a Chorizo Chimichanga Burrito and he ordered a Carne Asada Supreme Wet Burrito. We didn't wait long until our food was up & ready. I took some Flan with me and a couple drinks. I did not eat inside the establishment but the gentleman who helped me at the register was very polite. I got home and man was it flavorful. Had a craving for fish tacos and figured this was as good a place as any to scratch the itch. Ordered 2 fish tacos and 1 Carne Asada as I typically like to try every places Carne as a baseline. So far, this is my favorite Carne Asada I have had up here in Chico. Deep, rich flavor, proper texture, good quality meat, and nice tortillas. The fish tacos were pretty good, but had a ton of lettuce on them that made it pretty hard to see/taste the fish. I'm just gonna ask for light lettuce next time and they'll be tasty. Sacramento Ave. that has the same name - this is NOT the same food, and is not prepared by the same people. For the authentic taste, go to the Oroville Ave. location, right off Broadway. Not only are they friendly, they serve up some quality, authentic Mexican eats, which makes this my go-to spot any time I'm in town. I walked in while on a road trip stopover with the hope of finding something cheap and tasty. I went with a chicken burrito and was amused when the gentleman said "good choice - best thing on the menu." I don't know if that's true, but it was a hearty and satisfying burrito, with lots of evenly distributed, tender meat, rice, beans and some amazing house salsas. The lady was soooo sweet and I give her 5 stars, which is why it pains me to say that I wasn't impressed with the burrito or the horchata. The horchata was too sweet for my liking. This is a really solid spot for Mexican food in Chico. The owners are almost always there, working hard and very friendly. My wife and I really disliked the carne asada. Especially because there was a ton of onions cooked in and not a lot of meat. The salsas were So so. Dining room is always clean. The food is served quickly and is always piping hot and fresh. You order at the counter and the wait staff will deliver it to your table. On a venture up to Butte County, I was craving some good authentic Mexican food that will not disappoint. And driving through the downtown part of Chico, I stumbled across a place that stood out with its bright yellow-colored exterior building that just screamed attention. Which takes me none other to "Amigos De Acapulco". Conveniently located on the corner of Oroville Ave. and Broadway St., this place is in the heart of downtown Chico. There is a small parking lot that can fill about 10 vehicles but will fill up quickly during the dinner rush as well as the lunchtime hours when hungry Chico State students want their Mexican fix. Inside, the restaurant is fairly spacious as orange and yellow walls are the focal point while giving it that authentic Mexican feel to it. I had come here with my fiancée on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm. There wasn't many customers inside since it was in between lunch and dinner time. Since we had ate breakfast a few hours prior to coming here, we aren't hungry enough to go with a full-on lunch entree. Therefore, we both decided to try their tacos out. We had both ordered three of their "Carne Asada Tacos". And priced at a reasonable $2.00/each, this was a very good deal for a sit down restaurant. Our tacos arrive in less than five minutes and are presented very nicely. They come fully loaded with two corn tortillas, sliced onions, cilantro, red salsa, and lime wedges on the side. And when we enjoyed was the abundance of carne asada meat that was packed inside. The overall flavor was spot-on while I tasted many hints of spices that included cumin, salt, and pepper. And the salsa added a perfect spice without being too overbearingly hot to my taste buds. My lady also ordered a "Horchata" which is a type of Mexican rice drink. I could definitely tell that this was made from scratch and had the perfect amount of creaminess while the cinnamon spice added some nice flavor to it. Now if tacos just isn't your thing, "Amigos De Acapulco" offers a huge variety of menu options including nachos, taquitos, tortas, tamales, quesadillas, and burritos. Not to mention sopes, soups, salads, and ceviche. And finally they also have vegetarian options as well as seafood dishes and a small beer selection. Overall, I highly recommend "Amigos De Acapulco" if you're a Butte County local or just happen to be passing through town en route up north to Redding or down south to Sacramento. The service is decent, prices are very reasonable, and the quality of food is above average for what I found to be excellent tasting Mexican food. read more

They didn't get the balance quite right. Too many fries in boyfriend's California Burrito. Too much onion and cilantro in the pico de gallo. Rice, beans, and tortilla were good but not spectacular. My burrito flopped over and did not hold its shape. I enjoyed it enough to eat there again... if I had no better choice. Big tacos! Today I stopped by for some take out and ordered 4 Tacos al Pastor. Meat was seasoned well and not overwhelmed with onions like other places. The tortillas were soft and the condiments were fresh. I am giving this place 4 stars because they could use some work on their sauces. I asked for some sauce on the side and was given their "spiciest" sauce-- in my honest opinion, it was not spicy but instead it just gave me a burning sensation around my lips and mouth. I have tried many sauces and I would say that their sauces need a little more seasoning. Not sure if they use Habanero in their sauces, but I would prefer if they experimented with other chilies for the "spicy" component of their sauces and avoid having my lips burn. Turns out Amigos de Acapulco were not very friendly at all when it came to ingredients in their fairly expensive Nachos Combinados, $12.99 +. When one reads the ingredients list is easy to be sold, three kinds of meat, bean, cheese, tomatoes, etc etc. I fully understand that this particular dish is kind of Americanized over the years, had them where they truly shine and mostly in their more mediocre appearance. Impressed by the many glowing reviews attesting to this place excellence, but also aware of the risk of getting shorted in the end, threw the dices and played the odds. What arrived to the table was visibly cut short from their advertised page. Only one meat mostly, not too bad Carnitas, but hey?! where are the other 2? Away in vacation in Acapulco! No jalapeños which basically is mandatory, and the overly friendly host never reappeared to ask for some. Plate relatively small, ingredients way below par, with the exception of the very thin sour cream. Carnitas get old fast, and they controlled the protein army to ghastly results. The point is that once a restaurant is given almost 5 stars, they have to act and dispense food like it, and sadly the oily several tortillas and the accompaniment failed dismally. 2.5 Stars. Companion opted for Carne Asada Sope, $4.99+? Female comensal, possibly due to the munchies, lavished praises to what appeared to me an average sope. 4 Stars. Total $20, for what I definitely disagree deserves such high accolades. Service initially very effusive, place basically empty except for a table that for a brief spell remain occupied. We came across this place because the outside of it looked authentic. I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. I ordered 2 sopes, 1 chicken and 1 asada. They were loaded with tasty meat and fresh toppings; truly a perfect combination of flavors and texture. My bro got a torta, and he was also very satisfied. Surprisingly, even their crinkle cut fries were some of the best I've ever had. What really set this place apart was the attentive service provided by who I assume is the owner. He seemed to truly care about us having a pleasant experience, and really went above and beyond to make it happen.
