My husband brought me here because he had heard they had excellent Chile Rellenos. He was right. The Chile Rellenos were very good. They were flavorful and the cheese filling was actual Monterey Jack cheese and they weren't greasy, either. I will definitely return for these. My shredded beef Enchilada was excellent, as was my Rice and Beans and Flour Tortillas. I even enjoyed both fresh Salsas. My husband had Carne Asada con Chile Pasilla and he found his meal to also be excellent. My husband always said that his dad's Carne Asada was some of the best that he had ever had and that is saying a LOT. My husband said this Carne Asada was, "Just like my dad's." A co-worker & I ordered lunch from here on Friday. She ordered a Shredded Chicken Chimichanga w/ Rice & Beans & I followed suit and ordered the exact same thing but with Chorizo. She stopped in to pick it up and brought it back to the office. Honestly, I really wanted to give 5 stars except that I was given a Shredded Pork Chimichanga instead of Chorizo. And yes, I did indeed check to make sure I didn't have my co-workers shredded chicken one! We were given Chicken & Pork. I was REALLY hoping for Chorizo! The food made up for the mistake though. Old friend. Not much else in Hamilton city other than taco trucks. Their food has been consistent for 20 years. Salsa is consistent. Carnitas fresh, juicy, rich. Not to be eaten on a regular bases. We ordered take out, 5 lbs, with rice and beans, chips and salsa, pickled peppers,onions and carrots. There was 9 of us we could have fed another 5 easily. The service goes hot and cold depending on how busy they are. I have liked everything I have tried on their memo. Not a fancy place but homey. During the week a bunch dirty farmers, teachers locals. I finally found great Mexican food in Chico, only it is in Hamilton City! El Patio is awesome! I have eaten here every weekend since I found this place, because it is so good! Authentic, tasty, not-greasy, generous portions, good service and inexpensive - what else can you ask for?!? It takes 10 minutes to drive here from Chico, but it's totally worth it! Ambiance: A simple restaurant - not fancy by any means. There are about a dozen tables inside and another 6 outside on the covered patio. The furnishings are basic but very functional and the decor is pleasant. Service: There are usually a couple of waitresses. I have gotten good service there, although it is slow when I go so I usually have to call someone over when I need something. They are nice and helpful when I do. They have free refills on their (Pepsi) sodas, which is nice. Food: The chips are great - light and cripsy - and seem to be made there. There are two salsas. One is made with roasted tomatoes and veggies and the other is a more fresh tomtato (like a pico de gallo). Both are wonderful. If you love guacamole, like I do, you can order a small portion to eat with the chips for only $2. Their guac is divide!! They also bring you a small cup of soup while you wait which is complementary. I have had a chicken noodle and a veggie and both were yummy. Everything I have eaten here is good - beef enchiladas, al pastor & carnitas tacos, shrimp tostada, Tampiquena (thin, quick-seared beef topped with grilled chiles and onions). They have a good-sized menu, so there are many more things to try. I am looking forward to it!! Don't forget to try thier flan, as it's delish! Price: I would say that their prices are average or even a little below average. It's a good deal for the money spent for sure! Added bonus: There are usually some Roosters hanging out on the lawn in front of the restaurant. I just think that's cool... :) I HIGHLY reccomend El Patio. I come here every holiday season all the way from Portland, OR! I can't help stopping here when coming into town for the holiday. This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in Northern California. Everything here is authentic. Runny beans, fluffy flavorful rice. Uhg! This used to be a special treat to drive the 30 minutes for dinner. Not worth it anymore. So sad to see this restaurant go so downhill! Came here due to the positive reviews but my experience was not so positive. We were seated right away along with chips and salsa but didn't get waited on (not even water) for 35 minutes. The table next to ours kept standing up and looking toward the kitchen making me think they were waiting a long time for their food. Once we got our order taken the food came in a normal amount of time. Food was ok but not great. Chips are store bought not made here as someone else seemed to think. The flour tortilla however, did taste like it was fresh. Pico was good but salsa was just ok. Carnitas were good but not something to rave about. So, in the end, we had food that was good enough and service that was cheerful but crazy-slow. We won't be back. read more

I have been a fan for years. I love the local ambiance of this small town mexican restaurant. I also love the fact that is looks like family owned. We ordered takeout tonight and the food was amazing. I probable actually prefer takeout, because they need to spruce up their restaurant space and deep clean. But the food was amazing. Camarones Diablo was sooo good, lots of meat in the fajitas, Salsa, chips and guacamole was fresh and delicious. Please help this small business, try it. Oh what a nightmare!! One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a while; unless you enjoy eating and smoking someone else's cigarette. They have a patio in the back but it's completely covered and they let customers smoke in there. The smoke has not where to go. What's worse is if you're in the restaurant you still smell the smoke!
