I came on Friday night. I dined alone, so I searched for a good restaurant that was not overcrowded and had a wonderful atmosphere. I really had a pleasant visit today. The cuisine has excellent seasoning. I chose two appetizers, Takoyaki and Hamachi Karma, and found both to be delicious. The Takoyaki had a well-balanced flavor. Yummy. The Hamachi Karma displayed both the fish and dipping sauce with wonderful flavors. The drizzle sauce and spinach on the plate seem to be intentionally included. They complement the dish altogether. I think both the recipe maker and the chef demonstrated great skill in their execution. I should experience different dishes next time. The restaurant was nice and clean. The staff were friendly, polite, and attentive to their customers. My green tea never ran out. I rarely ate at a restaurant without asking for more water or tea. It may seem like a little thing, but I valued their attention. This restaurant may become one of my go-to places to eat. read more

I admit that I first tried this place because it is within walking distance of my hotel in Bothell. However, I was staying in that hotel for two nights and actually enjoyed my experience so much the first night, that I came back again to sample more menu items the second night as well. Both nights, I enjoyed great food and excellent service. The first night, I thoroughly enjoyed ikura (salmon roe) with quail egg, ami ebi (sweet shrimp) -- love me fried shrimp heads, and a specialty roll -- black lava spider roll. The second night I ordered miso soup, yellowtail scallion roll, saba (mackere) nigiri, eel avocado roll and tobiko nigiri. On both evenings, I opted for green tea instead of an alcohol alcoholic beverage. Another reviewer commented that there is a brisk takeout app service, which was noticeable both nights I was there. Though unassuming at first glance, I was surprised at the absolute game Big Fish Sushi brought. For one, the fish quality here is hands down some of the best in the Bothell/Mill Creek area, AND they cook their rice to the perfect texture. The sushi here tends to be bigger, but that's typically only an issue for me when the rice far outweighs the fish in ratio, which thankfully isn't the case. I took down a star because I found that all the rolls with mayo (Paradise Roll and S.M.T Gunkan Maki) were completely overpowered. Unless you're into the saucy kind of sushi (which I'm not), I would just advise against ordering anything with mayo or at least asking for it on the side. I'm definitely revisiting this spot but specifically for the superb nigiri. Service wise, the staff were extremely kind and attentive so no notes on that. Amazing sushi! My friends and I ordered delivery from here and everything was relatively inexpensive (even with the charges being upped for delivery). We got the pork Katsu bento box, the 3 roll special (which I love they have as an option cuz like, who only orders one roll?), and a separate more "fancy" roll. Loved everything. I wouldn't say they are attempting to set any specific aesthetic though, although their menus, plates and displays are pretty. Menu is long and covers traditional and American favorites, including desserts. This place is kid friendly also. The food itself was priced pretty upper average for this area. Decided to try out Big Fish Sushi- after having it recommended to us by several friends -and it did not disappoint! The service was great, our waitress was friendly, relaxed, and accommodating. There was a very easy-going vibe, we didn't feel like we were being rushed. One downside was that the music was a bit loud (and not the most appropriate for the setting) at times it felt more like a club than a sushi spot, but it did not take away from our pleasant experience on a Friday night. The sushi was tasty, we ordered the Seahawks Roll and the Lollipop Roll, but the star of the show was the Sake (salmon) Nigiri. Placed an online order for two rolls and some Hamachi Nigiri. Right off the bat, the greeting was very cold when I came in. No greeting, no hello, no nothing. Ok fine. Got home, there was no soy sauce in the bag. What sushi spot do you know doesn't provide soy sauce?? Does that cost extra?!?? None in the bag. Then my Hamachi was like rubber. No fresh fish should taste like rubber...ever! The rolls were nothing to brag about. It makes sense now why there was no one in the restaurant when I arrived. Don't waste your time or money for this crappy food. Do yourself favor and go across the street to Nakagawa Japanese Restaurant. Overall a good experience! Sushi looked and tasted on a higher end than most places. Prices aren't the worst, but I don't think the Sushi Boat is worth it, especially if you're not dining in (see below, but the "chef's specialty rolls can range a lot). Most rolls are solid, but not quite all of them. There seems to be lunch specials too, but I didn't get any. Fan of the Seattle Roll here though and it's unique twist that varies from the basic Seattle Roll. Sushi Sandwich Roll looks super interesting! Hope to try that in the future. -- Sushi Boat -- The Sushi Boat comes with 15 pieces of sashimi (3 pieces of 5 fish), 12 pieces of nigiri which they call "sushi", an Osaka roll which is equivalent to torched sushi, and a standard chef's roll. The top green roll was a Spicy Avocado Roll. It's the random "chef's specialty roll" included with the boat. Valued at $10, I think it makes the boat overpriced and it'd be better to order individual rolls. The boat is mainly for aesthetics if you're dining in, otherwise it's pretty pointless and you aren't getting more value. Below that is the Osaka roll, which is essentially rectangular nigiri. On top are tuna, white tuna, and salmon with some spicy tuna underneath before a large block of rice. Relatively underwhelming but I do have a bias to torched sushi in the same form. Nigiri from left to right - ebi shrimp, yellowtail tuna, albacore tuna, white tuna, salmon, tuna. Some solid, thick pieces and other standard, thinner ones. Great nigiri overall. Sashimi was harder to differentiate visually, top two I'm uncertain but then there's white tuna, tuna, and salmon. I assume the top two were yellowtail and albacore, but not completely convinced. Tasty indeed. Overall, wouldn't order again and would rather order individual items. Probably save some money too because there's definitely a price associated with the aesthetics of the boat when dining in. -- Fancy Salmon Roll -- Salmon or avocado top the roll with shrimp tempura and salmon inside. This results in some fishy pieces and other creamy pieces (with the avocado). Some good variety, but wasn't anything special. Would opt for other rolls. - Lollipop Roll -- An interesting take on sushi that's meant to be eaten like a lollipop, hence the name. Wooden skewers are poked into a cucumber shell, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. If you're looking for a lighter item, this is the right one for you. Personally wasn't a big fan though. -- Salmon Sashimi -- Instead of sashimi, it seems each item was nigiri. No problem, just noting it in case anyone is curious. Standard salmon. -- Seattle Roll -- This is not your typical Seattle Roll. I disagree with cream cheese and sushi, so I'm not a fan of the typical Seattle Roll, but I noticed this restaurant had a different Seattle Roll. It's green soy paper wrapped around tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. I don't believe there's rice. I was a big fan of the flavor of fish that wasn't hidden with rice. Probably get again. -- Snow White Roll -- Shrimp tempura, crab salad, and avocado inside with a white tuna and avocado exterior placed on top of some spicy mayo. Black fish roe is sprinkled on top. Felt like one of the fancier rolls and the white tuna was definitely welcome. Would order again. -- Spicy Girl Roll -- Does not look like much, especially in this picture where food is smooshed together, but it was pretty tasty. THE BEST NIGIRI SUSHI I have ever eaten! Since 1983, I have eaten a lot of sushi, and find the Itamae (板前) of Big Fish Sushi are truly masters at the art of sushi preparation. The waitstaff and the service provided was beyond excellent. The rice was at about at body temperature, and was sticky enough that it didn't fall apart. It did separate into individual grains once my mouth. The generous netas, were sized in proper proportion to the rice. All of the fish was fresh with great texture, and clear taste. It was sliced perfectly and artistically topped with specific exotic ingredients. The green tea ice cream was also perfectly prepared and the presentation amazing with whipped cream then crisscrossed with chocolate drizzle and topped with multi-colored sprinkles. The interior is detailed and pleasing with comfortable seating. The getas and pottery mixing plates were attractive. The tea cups were colorful! Even high quality chop sticks! There was also a miso soup on the side. The cut was thick so I think the price is reasonable. However, the quality was bad. 1) it smell fishy. This is the first time I had sashimi that had the fishy smell. 2) the fish was warm and not fresh, usually the fish have been chilled and you can tell because it's colder than cooked food. The fish here taste like it's been cooked but not...the rice was also disappointing. It was sushi rice and doesn't have that smooth taste, it was more like hard. Sushi bento box ($12.95) - kinda disappointing for the price. You get 4 pieces of sushi, + 4 pieces of California roll and 2 pot stickers and a little rice. It is the perfect big bite of fresh Tuna, avocado, spicy tuna and the delicious cream cheese. You have to try it! My boyfriend loves the Salmon rolls and Philadelphia rolls. We usually pig out when we come here - because the quality of rolls are so good and the prices are exactly right. He was beyond excited when we came in last night and they have deep fried ice cream. His absolute favorite. It was perfectly crunchy and creamy - not a squishy mess like some other places.
