I have now tried a lot of different things on Maria's menu and have to bump them up a notch. The gyros and steam bombs are great and the salads are fresh. This may have been* the best Greek pizza I've ever had. Does this mean the food is good? I dunno, but I do know that I've been exposed to some truly lousy Greek pizza over the years - in New Haven, at The Yorkside, and in Philadelphia, generally. And this is not that, exactly. The ingredients are fresh, and quality - especially the roasted red peppers. The sauce is scant, the cheese is dense and sweet and, as Jennifer E. put it "kind of dry, very light" and it all sits firmly on a fluffy, spongy crust. Like most of the Greek pizza I've had, only tastier. The salads are no good, the gyros sit heavy on the stomach, but the chicken soulvaki is nice. *So, all of a sudden they had these signs up that said "New NY Style Thin Crust Pizza" and then even more suddenly the signs changed to "New Italian Style Thin Crust Pizza" and that must have been because irate New Yorkers threatened them with libel. Last night I was at an event in Arlington that went late, and I was hungry. It was about 10:30 at night, and being a Tuesday there wasn't a lot of stuff open. So I drove around for a bit and I found this place. As we opened the door to go in we noticed that they closed at 10, and the guy behind the counter was cleaning off the grill. He was really friendly, though, and told us that he could still make cold subs for us, and even toast them in the oven. He just had to finish cleaning the grill. As he did, he chatted with us, and then once he was ready I ordered a genoa salami sub and my girlfriend got the veggie and cheese. He made them, we ate them, and they were good! Now, my only experience here was eating two admittedly simple sandwiches, but the service was so good I have to recommend these guys whole-heartedly. read more

Maria's pizza isn't five stars ... for that fancy-schmancy stuff, you might have to go to Za's down the street and pay oodles and oodles more. But the combination of service and know-how, plus personal attention from Gerard and his staff (a very reliable staff with low turnover, I might add) make Maria's the perfect neighborhood place and worth a five-star. Their delivery is terrific! Arlington cops eat here all the time and, let's face it, they have their choice of any pizza place on their beat. Price point is outstanding. I often have a quick meal for under $10. Most important about Maria's is Gerard's new menu. This guy has poured his heart and soul into the new menu and, I confess, I'm so hooked on the new thin-crust pizza that I haven't tried other items. But I know he's tried to source his ingredients from quality places that don;t have other Arlington customers, so you're getting quality food and unique tastes. The staff is behind the new menu. It's really worth a try! On the whole, Maria's is 4.5 stars and the extra half-star for sheer effort and determination to please the East Arlington customer base. I sure wish Maria's would be able to expand and have more tables inside. That would clinch their status as the place for quick lunch and dinner in East Arlington. But they do have outdoor seating in the spring, summer, and fall -- and that makes it fun! read more

My girlfriend ordered 2 subs here in a pinch and they were horrible. My Italian sub bun was soaked by the oil and wet tomatoes. The thing was almost flavorless too. Meat, cheese, veggies on bread shouldn't be that hard... She got a roast beef sub and it was also soggy. She had 2 bites and couldn't continue. For $14 you would expect a lot more, right? Woohoo! Maria's has changed over to hand stretched, thin crust pizzas! I've been frequenting Maria's for about 2 years now, and was always impressed with the friendly service and good subs. But for pizza, I would order delivery from Andrina's or Sabatino's. Now, Maria's is up there with the best pizza in Arlington, which is more convenient for me, since I live right around the corner. I've lived in the area all my life, and Maria's makes a delicious cheese pizza. Thin crust, good flavor and cheap. It is always my go-to.

Like other reviewers have said the service is really excellent. The guy behind the counter was friendly, and even the delivery guy held the door my girlfriend and I. Pizza was tasty, decently priced (11 bucks for a 2 topping large pizza). They also have Mon and Weds specials where you can get a large cheese for only $7+tax (pick up only). I moved to Arlington recently and I've always been a fan of what I call (or what I've learned other people call) "New York Style" pizza. You know, the kind that's thin crust, tomatoey, and the cheese has this certain consistency that is hard to describe but so f'ing good. Anyway, we saw Maria's had a sign advertising $7 large cheese pizza's on Monday's and Wednesday's so we decided to give it a go. The large cheese pizza is the pizza from my dreams. I cannot stop myself from eating half of a large pie when we get it, it is so good. I've also ordered grinders, which are also tasty. But I just keep going back to that large cheese pizza. read more

Maria's used to be one of over 9000 pizzerias in the area serving fairly poor Greek pizza. About a year ago or so, it reformatted from bad Greek to bordering-on-adequate Italian. This was already one of the cheaper places in the area but now it's dirt cheap and this is heavily reflected in the quality of ingredients. The crust now tastes frozen and the sauce is comparatively bland but he cheese is adequately flavorful. They also now provide small paper packets of parmesan, oregano and garlic as a Domino's like acknowledgment of their pizza's mediocrity. But for what you pay, there's really no need for such apologetics. Despite its inferior ingredients, I actually rate Maria's above Sabatino's as the sauce isn't 90% garlic and the crust isn't grossly undercooked (though it can be overcooked). read more

This is your generic Sub and Pizza shop. Great for a quick bite. There sub ingredients are good. I personally am not a fan of the bread they use. As for the Pizza, their speciality pizzas are pretty good. Especially their Margarita pizza. The other stuff on their menu is frozen and the fried. The chicken kebob salad with Greek dressing is PERFECT on a hot day when you don't want to turn on the stove... my roommate introduced me to this place several months ago and I'm a fan! They marinate the chicken so there's actual flavor rather than the typical bland takeout chicken. Delivery is fast and free, just the way I like it. My sisters and I were taking a brisk walk down Mass Ave looking for a place to buy take-out for dinner and bring back to our Mum at the hotel we were staying. A woman was walking toward us and I stopped her and asked about the Maria's Pizza place across the street. She was full of info! She gave a Yelpesque review! She said they did not have the best pizza but it was pretty good. The service is great. And the people who run it are really nice and worth going there for. Thanks stranger! We scooted over there. One sister got a Greek salad (it was a Greek pizzeria after all!), one sister got something with onion rings (cannot remember what she ordered, oh well), and I ordered a seafood platter to split with my mum. I had some of the Greek salad with the absolutely faboosh pita bread. YUMMERS! The onion rings were okay. They were very doughy, very greasy. They were edible but not that great. The fried shrimp, the small fried scallops, the thin fried clam strips, and the fried haddock were excellent. Both my mum and I loved them. I used to love this place. And then tonight happened. We called to order, and the phone connection was spotty at best; I wasn't 100% sure the woman understood my order, but it seemed ok, and she told me 40 minutes. I paid with my credit card. An hour and a half later, no food. I called back, and another woman answered, and she asked me questions but then didn't listen to my responses. First she couldn't find my order, then she couldn't find my address, and then she didn't even come up with a solution. A man eventually got on the phone and said he'd call the driver and find out where he is and then said bye and hung up. No offer to refund, no offer for any sort of money off. And then, another 20 minutes later, finally our doorbell rings. The guy shows up with our food, not even an apology, and hands me a cash receipt and asks for $23. I told him I paid already, and he just kind of looks at me and grunts and walks back to his car. That was the first time I've ever not tipped, and I feel bad about that, but he was over an hour and a half late. And he just walked away; didn't even really give me a chance to write something on the receipt anyway. The food itself was obviously cold and soggy. My sister had a calzone which was fine, but I had the steak tips wrap and we ordered curly fries to share; 1/2 the steak in the wrap wasn't cooked all the way through so I took it out and basically had a lettuce, tomato, & cucumber wrap, and the fries were stale and soggy. So disappointing. We used to order from Maria's all the time, and now they've lost our business. read more

Maria's is a great neighborhood pizzeria. The staff is friendly and by our second visit we were on a first name basis with the owner. Expect the staples: pizza, calzones, subs, italian dinners, all of which are great. I particularly love their sausage and peppers. In addition to this, Maria's is an excellent catering option, from salad to pasta to chicken parmigiana. The owner delivers the trays himself and is always prompt with setup and takedown. Ok, here's the deal, really this place is a 3.5 stars... Their food is pretty average but I think their consistent good service pulls them up. Definitely worth a try. Their service is quite good and delivery times have been fast. Prices are just about right and I like their Mon/Wed pizza deals. Their pizzas are quite good, though a little light on the sauce for my taste. Their chicken fingers/buffalo tenders are really good -- well cooked and juicy. I do recommend against the calzones, the dough they use for pizzas does not work well for them and they end up a little burnt and crunchy. Just finished up a team meeting where I'd ordered 6 pizzas from Maria's. It was fantastic - the best I've had in the area and everyone loved it. New York style crust and the sauce was perfection for my tastes, and apparently everyone else's in the meeting as well because it was gone in 5 minutes! The delivery was delayed because I didn't have my phone with me so they couldn't confirm which office to deliver to, but when I called them back to clarify, they delivered it immediately. I live right around the corner from this place and I refuse to order from here. Maybe I am a pizza snob but the pizza really isn't very good. To be upfront, I have only tried their pizza, and I gave it two chances. The first time I got a slice to go and the only reason I even at the whole thing was because I was so hungry. The second time I ordered an entire pie. It was better than ordering by the slice but I was still pretty disappointed. They also do not have bathrooms for patrons on site. They do have a good deal for $7 large pizza on Wednesdays but I still don't order it. read more
