I had a solid experience here. This is a decent neighborhood pizza and grinder spot. Nothing fancy, but it does what it is supposed to do. I have had a couple of grinders here, and both were decent. Food came out hot and fresh, which goes a long way at a place like this. The menu has good options, built for convenience, and it works if you just want something easy. Service was ok and pretty average. The decor inside is Spartan, but fine for what it is. Overall, this was a three-and-a-half-star experience. I cannot really justify rounding it up to four. We've ordered pizza's from Venus off and on for years! It's only a few blocks away so I'll often call the order in and then walk over to pick it up. The pizza's are usually okay, sometimes the fries/onion rings are good, and sometimes they're not. They have a nice menu selection, just not sure the personnel have been trained in how to make a lot of it. So a good place, relatively clean but doesn't really cater to dining in...stick to delivery. read more

First off I went in and asked for a 6 piece chicken and a small Hawaiian pizza. When I got home an started to eat the chicken I realized the chicken was never cleaned. The chicken had feathers and the yellow piece that should be cleaned before cooking. I tried to bypass that.. until I called a week later and asked for a chicken Alfredo pasta. When I arrived I asked for my pasta and received a pizza box. The kid then told me he thought I said pizza, and I told him no. Again I tried to let that pass. I get home and open the pizza and realize I now had a olive, green pepper and cheese pizza. Lmfao! The manager calls me and tells me they don't clean the chicken, they just cook it as it comes and that he wants me to bring the pizza back to have it remade or get my money back. I've been searching for an Alfredo chicken broccoli that compares to Papa Rinos in Dorchester. I have finally found it! This is nice sized portion, perfect temperature and soooooo tasty. Follow up to a Grubhub order. I gave the restaurant a 1-star review for taking 2 hours to deliver an order of small pizza and fries to my apartment 2.5 miles away. When it was already over an hour from the time I ordered, I called and was given a bogus excuse of too much traffic. I don't know how far these guys are willing to deliver to, but I was driving through the area after I had ordered to finish some errands, and to my surprise there was actually very little traffic. Which looking back makes sense since it was the Friday before NYE and a lot of people probably left town for it and students are on vacation. I usually stick away from leaving reviews knowing it's usually either people who are really happy or really pissed. Unfortunately, rather than being sincerely apologetic for the insane wait (and pretty clearly lazy excuse) the restaurant took the position of briefly saying "sorry for the wait" then accusing me of "not getting the facts straight." They claimed that I don't live down the street but in fact 20 minutes away - truthfully it's more like 15 minutes, with normal traffic, so we each exaggerated a bit - and that I should've researched the prices before ordering - as if I didn't know what the price was when I pre-tipped the driver through the app. Learned my lesson on that too. The reality is my food was just average and smaller than I expected - the pizza was smaller than a Dominos small which is fine if I knew I was paying for a personal pizza. Then again they charged $8.50 which is crazy expensive. The restaurant's solution was to bash an unsatisfied customer and even at the point of sale made no attempt to refund me for what was obviously cold food at that point or anything like that. Clearly a lot of people like this place so I'm guessing my experience was out of the ordinary. But clearly these guys aren't serious if their strategy is to take 2 hours to deliver a small order just over 2 miles away in the same town, pre-tipped, then get offended over an honest review and not be appreciative of a paying customer who had a bad experience. And not only that, but to then take a personal swipe and insult that customer. Bad business and plenty of pizza shops around, so these guys can stick to their usual clientele. The defensive and combative reply to my criticism is pretty pathetic, when I even gave them the benefit of the doubt that it may just have been a bad night for them. read more

The owner is very disrespectful! After placing a grub order I called and asked them how long would it be since they do their own deliveries. I offered to come get it if they were busy even though I already paid the delivery fee. They told me 15-20 minutes. 45 minutes later they showed up with a cold pizza and when I opened the box the sauce and cheese were on the TOP of the box which you can clearly see it was dropped or crushed. This wasn't the first time they have made me waste my money! This time when Grubhub asked how was my order, I gave it one star and said the food was cold AND damaged. Mediocre at Best. A simple buffalo chicken salad ( because they were so new I didn't trust the Shawarma chicken just yet) turned out to be a 3 day war upon my intestines. I mean the delivery experience was fine, not fast not slow, friendly driver and hot food. But oh man was I underwhelmed when I opened the bag. This salad was made with the bottoms of the iceberg lettuce..you know the part of the lettuce you have no desire to eat.. at all ever.. along with the most wilted and dead looking veggies from a bag salad that stop and shop threw out probably a week before. As much as I would love to recommend a place just a short walk from my house, we tried this place once and don't know if we will be back again. I judge pizza places on two things: the pizza (obviously) and the salad dressing. Ordered a sausage pizza, and I almost asked him what kind of sausage they had but I figured it would be OK either way. When we got home, it looked and tasted more like Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage links on a pizza, which was not appetizing for us. The greek salad was fair. Mostly all iceberg lettuce with one tomato, sparse other veggies and lots of feta. The dressing was more like ranch not greek. OK but there are lots of better places for a pizza and salad. I really want to love this place. It's become my go-to pizza shop for a pretty decent sub that I can get delivered. Their steak & cheese subs are about as good as a pizza shop sub gets. Their meatball and chicken parm subs are pretty good too. Even their desserts are good (most delivery pizza places have crappy desserts). But every single time I've ordered delivery from this place it ends up taking absolutely forever. I've tried all of the different delivery services at all times of day and it ends up taking at least an hour (or longer) for super small orders. Even when the Tufts kids are out of town and it's a Tuesday night, a single sub and fries can take over an hour. And I only live about a half mile away! Well, Venus Pizza and I got off to a sort of rough start. I went in on their grand opening night, and got the general impression they should have put it off for a bit. They were still in the process of loading their beverage fridge, which wasn't a big deal, but they were also still getting a feel for their pizza oven, which was somewhat more concerning. The charred puck of a pizza I noticed behind the counter definitely had me worried. It turns out my worries were somewhat justified. I was foolishly ordering a pizza at the counter, rather than over the phone, which meant I got to wait for it at one of the three or so small tables in the place. This wouldn't have been a big deal, but the wait seemed a little long, right up to the point where someone came to let me know that my pizza had been burnt beyond recovery. On the plus side, they were making me a new one instead of trying to pass the burnt one off; on the minus side, it meant I had to keep waiting. When my pizza finally showed up, after 45 minutes to an hour, it arrived with profuse apologies (intentional), no bill (intentional), and it was large rather than small (I think this one was just a mistake). Take two of the pizza came out quite well, though. I had ordered a Chicken Broccoli Alfredo, which came with a white sauce, toasty broccoli, and a nicely crispy-but-not-overdone crust. I figure the long wait and the free pizza sort of offset, and I'd give the pizza something in the range of 3-3.5 stars. It's certainly not gourmet fare, but it seems like a pretty solid place for a late-night pizza fix. They also offer wraps and sandwiches, but I can't vouch for those. read more

If there's one things Davis Squarites desperately need, it is a pizza place. Seriously, Domino's and Cristo's don't cut it. While Posto may eventually take the cake (or pie?) for right now, your best bet is Venus Pizza. I should also make it clear that this place really doesn't deserve a 4-star review. It's really more of a 3-star kind of place, but the extra star is a star for being better than anything else within delivery range. The pizza is a standard thin crust local pizzeria style, with decent ingredients and a satisfyingly crunchy crust. I went for a pineapple and ham pizza and a peppers and mushrooms pizza, and was quite satisfied, though not enthused. Delivery was prompt, actually 5 mintes earlier than they claimed, and the driver was courteous. Basically, this place wouldn't deserve a mention in Harvard Square, but up here in the pizza desert of Davis, it is (if only temporarily, til Posto does takeout) King. Tonight was the second time my boyfriend and I ordered pizza from Venus Pizza & Grill. Needless to say, the pizza is delicious! The first time, we ordered the Hawaiian pizza; the second time we ordered a regular cheese pizza with spinach and eggplant. Both times were great - the order was ready in 15-20 minutes, and the pizza was fresh and very tasty. Probably the best eggplant on a pizza I've ever had! The only reason i didn't give Venus 5 stars is because I haven't had any of their other food. We'll definitely be going back whenever we have a pizza craving. I'm from VA but staying in Boston for a few days. I'm stuck indoors with 2 kids and have ordered from Venus several times. I got the opportunity to try several different things and they've all been super yummy and fresh tasting so far. We loved the Buffalo pizza, Chicken parm and chicken Kebob plate. Something a bit addictive about all their food!! This place saved my stay here cuz they have so much variety and everything is tasty! Me, hubby and kids were all happy!! P.S. For Muslim consumers.. I've only got delivery and I've always been happy. Always hot and on time. My boyfriend and I's favorite is the Tufts pizza. Barbecue pizza is usually not my go-to but this one is amazing. The caramelized onions are delicious and the sauce is not sweet or smoky. The crust is a tiny bit crunchy but not greasy. The cheesy, bacon fries are delicious also! They got delivered hot and they completely exceeded my expectations. The fries were not greasy, the cheese was hot and a good consistency and there was A TON of real bacon all over. It was quite heavenly. The only thing to take caution of is when you order online (worth it) it automatically adds a tip. I realized this after and ended up tipping someone online and then in cash, so around 60%. I mean, I made some pizza boys night, but I could have gotten another order of cheesy fries! read more

As pizza places go, this is a pretty good spot. Admittedly, I am mostly a fan because of the convenience to where I live but the guys here are really great. Super friendly and the food is always pretty quick. Decent prices and a good menu selection, so two wins there. The food itself is fine. Nothing to write home about, but pretty good as pizza places go. They only have one size sub, which is fine for those with self control, but not so much for me. Overall, thumbs up for Venus. Great pizza at a great price. Not much more to say than that. Its a pan pizza, and although the slices may be a little smaller than I'd prefer (I usually walk out with at least 3 slices where elsewhere I'd be happy with 2) , the quality definitely makes up for the quantity. Also it's neat to see they are one of the first places I've seen to offer level up, which makes it a convenient in and out destination for lunch with added benefits, although I have yet to sign up. But I'm sure dozens if not hundreds of level up patrons regular Venus's and keep coming back for more, as you should too. read more

This is my favorite pizza place in Teele Square. My girlfriend and I love the Chicken Alfredo pizza, as well as the Tufts. You can't go wrong with either one really. We got cheesey fries once here and it was just a little too greasy for me. The staff is pretty friendly and they're always accurate when it comes to their time estimates. The pizza itself maaaaay be a tad greasier than it ought to be (or a lot) but I was in the mood for that, so I enjoyed it. Prices are OK. My small pizza was ten bucks. Don't bother with their salads if you're doing take-out or delivery. They aren't anything special and it'd be cheaper to make your own (I'm just lazy). Falafel comes to Somerville! I walked in expecting pizza and was so excited to find they have falafel. Having been raised in the middle east I'm very picky about my falafel. This isn't the best falafel sandwich I've had in my life (only in the middle east for that) but it's pretty up there. The falafel is moist, fresh and not greasy like others I've had around here. The pita wrap is also soft and fresh (believe I'm picky about that as well having grown up on fresh out of the oven pita bread). I have only been here once, so this review is subject to change, but my first experience at Venus was a good one. I ordered the falafel and I must say that it is one of the better falafels I've have around here in a while. Made to order using fresh ingredients, so expect a little wait, but it's well worth it. I'm a bit of a falafel snob, so believe me when I tell you this is no heat lamp special. The patties were formed and cooked on the spot, which is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Slightly crisp on the outside and moist deliciousness on the inside. Good tahini sauce and fresh veggies made this a falafel I'll be coming back for. I ordered a sub and a roady dinner which includes fries and coleslaw. Fries and coleslaw didn't came in the order of almost $27. I called Venus and explained how my order of $27 got delievered with only a sub and 4 piece of chicken when the minimun is $12. Use common sence and pay attention to orders. It was disrespectful asking me of how they were supposed to know if I ordered a roady dinner knowing that they can review the order which includes the order total leading me to go to Venus and proove them wrong and pick up rest of the order. This is my local go to delivery joint since I moved to north cambridge 4 months ago. It can depend on what your getting though. The greek salad with chicken is better than the one the ACTUAL greek restaurant right nearby offers. Pizza is pretty good. And fries are excellent fat and crispy. Definitely happy to have Venus. I got a steak bomb once that was good but a little lacking in meat. It was still plenty for one person though. Definite thumbs up for Venus! A greek salad with chicken and small fry delivered is 13.
