Brought in water bottles for kids and was immediately told we had to go put them back in our car. I can't recall the last time I've been told to do that. While ordering, the instructions on the kiosk were confusing. When we asked to clarify, at first we were ignored and then were given unclear instructions in a rude manner. Waited about 20 minutes for our food. Was noticeably slow - there were no other customers ahead of us and only a couple mobile orders during that time. Later asked if they had any hot sauce and one of the workers said they did and went to get some for me - the manager then came out and said it would be a dollar extra charge. Really? We go to the Shirlington location often and it is one of my family's favorite go-to places. Although the food is similar (the taste at Shirlington is better), the overall service experience could not be more different. I will not be coming back to this location again. I feel like it is pretty difficult to provide poor service at a fast casual "chain", but somehow this location has done it. I don't know if this is a franchise location, but if this is a company-owned location, they need to reevaluate management and their service approach and standards across locations. This was my first time trying Big Buns and I must say I was pleased. They have 3 booths and maybe 5 tables for dine-in. They have a full menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches, burger bowls, different types of fries and shakes. They even have Boozy shakes where you can add rum or Irish Cream. In addition, they have a small cocktail menu. I ordered a Fried chicken sandwich & fries. The chicken was pretty thin, but it was really good and flavorful. I built my own sandwich as they have lots of toppings to choose from. They also offer avocado, bacon, fried egg and onion straws as premium toppings. The guy who took my order was very friendly and helpful. I had a lot of questions since it was my first visit, but he was really patient. I'll definitely go back and try a burger. read more

My first trip to Big Buns - McLean...but not remotely possible my last! The VALUE of the combo meal is exceptional. The opportunity to order a handmade, scratch made burger (or so it tasted) to my liking (medium) was a treat forgotten long ago by the pre-packaged overpriced frozen offerings at other so-called burger joints (MiFI; Five Guys; Habit), none of which compare, not at all. Though I wish I could get a fountain dietCoke with my meal, I get it that the CocaCola company does not make it easy for the smaller operators to buy sufficient product to be able to provide "free" refills. The strawberry watermelon juice concoction was refreshing and did the trick for me. And, BTW, who offers gruyere cheese on a burger! Another Big Buns treat. Can't wait to go back. read more

There seemed to be two managers on duty...both were polite...our made to order burgers did not come as requested. Husband asked for no pickles, but with onions...he received the reverse, similar with mine. I spoke with one of the two gentlemen in charge, he pulled up the order, read it to the line cooks... the order was taken properly, but the staff either wasn't reading or not paying attention. The flavored lemonades were lacking in lemon...just tasted like sugar water. Asked for extra crispy fries, they did not come as so. Two stars for polite staff..otherwise, pretty darn expensive for not hitting the mark on the orders....also, while we were dining, only ourselves and one other patron at the end of the meal, we could smell cigarette smoke, and it was not coming from any of the three of us. read more

These guys seem to have good intentions but have been experiencing technical difficulties. Despite ordering our burgers well done, many still come out pink, including our kids' burgers. Probably the worst experience was finding a plastic bag inside a burger, which was apparently some kind of packaging material from an ingredient. The manager quickly got a new burger, but it was also pink inside due to being prepared so quickly, and we just didn't have the heart to ask for another redo. McLean hasn't had a good burger place since Zack's closed decades ago -but now, it does! The buns are fabulous and hold together. The beef is great, no gristle or fat, and it's cooked to order. The skin-on, skinny fries are perfect and they even have Mexican Coke. That alone will dredge up memories of soda fountain burgers of long ago, but this is a modern place, so you've got a zillion options for toppings and sauce, as well as burger bowl choices ir chicken sandwiches and wait a minute! On tap beer and boozy shakes! A burger place for grownups, but kids welcome. It might seem pricey - until you remember what you pay for a burger, fries, and a "Coke" at McD's. Had burgers delivered and went with specialties. Horseradish burban and peppercorn steak were both excellent. Each tasted like a signature chef driven burger at a full service restaurant. The brioche buns are a nice touch. Fries were average, Cajun may have had a touch too much spice - the special sauce was not included in delivery so will reserve judgement. read more

We hosted a basketball team today at our today and I had ordered catering of sliders and nuggets and fries. I had ordered grilled sliders but got fried chicken. The general manager personally went to store and returned with the grilled sliders in record time. The food was a huge hit. We host a good bit, and I will be using this facility again. We just got dinner from Big Buns and it was expensive and underwhelming. My burger had a soggy lower bun and the burger patty disintegrated into small pieces as I ate. My son didn't like his burger at all, which was cooked medium rare even though I requested medium well. My wife didn't like her chicken sandwich because it had so much buffalo sauce that she couldn't taste the chicken. The french fries were all a bit undercooked. On the other hand, I liked the way my burger tasted, apart from the soggy bun and crumbly beef patty, and my wife liked my daughter's crispy chicken tenders, although my daughter didn't.
