We stopped here on our way home this morning for breakfast. The restaurant wasn't busy yet, a few tables were filled, but a lot of seating was open. We were seated by a polite young lady acting as hostess/waitress. It took several minutes for an actual waitress to greet us and take our drink order. One of us opted for the buffet, but 2 of us opted to order from the menu. We placed our order and while we waited for our order to be prepared, the person in our party who chose the buffet went to get their food. The buffet was stocked well at first. As more people arrived it seemed the kitchen had a hard time keeping up with the orders and the needs of the buffet. While we were waiting, we noticed there was one of the senior waitresses causing conflict with several of the other younger waitstaff and the tables were not being attended too. We were still waiting for our food to be prepared and the person who chose the buffet had 2 plates and was already done. I kept watching the window for our food and it finally came after about 45 minutes...and the pancakes weren't Oreo pancakes, they were plain. The farmers omelet was very light on the ham and cheese. At this point, they were just eaten so we could get back on the road. I didn't see a manager to speak with, I just saw a lot of waitstaff standing behind the counter doing nothing. Don't know if I will return, because it took way too long! I attribute the poor service to poor management and with the waitstaff that were there the service should have been impeccable, which it was not. read more

Absolutely discusting! Dining room and kitchen are filthy. Food took 1 hour to come out and was cold. Had to ask for drinks and bill.

This Big Boy was the most disgusting place I've ever eaten. There were flies everywhere! The silverware was dirty My pot roast had the consistency of rubber. My husband's "Best cheese burger in the world" was soupy with ketchup, mustard and relish. A companions chicken strips were more like jerky... at least one person with us had a palatable meal and it was a club. So if you have to eat here get the club... I think the worst part about our experience was...when we told the person at the cash register what our issues were, she said "there coming out with a soupier burger but it's not our yet". We were taken to 2 wobbly tables that were pushed together and given 2 menus for our group of 5. Waited over 10 minutes for someone to take our order. Hostess was seating another group so we inquired about moving to another table (there were plenty) and she acted as if it were too much trouble. Asked for kids menus and she again acted like it was a problem to get. Can't rate food because we left before we even meet a waiter or waitress. Terrible service. read more

This place is in need of a major overhaul.The booths are old and worn out. The bathroom is always a mess. I ate here about a week ago and was so grossed out. I had ordered a turkey club sandwich and fries. I had barely taken one bite of my sandwich when I noticed a chunk of saran wrap inside my sandwich. Ugh. The waitress asked if I wanted another sandwich but my appetite was ruined by that slimy saran wrap. She still charged me for my half a glass of soda though. I wont be coming back to this place. You haven't lived until you have visited the Clare Big Boy, purchased the breakfast buffet for $7.99 and loaded your plate with a hearty pile of corn nuggets. They sound disgusting but they taste equally delicious. When I went to the Clare Big Boy for breakfast this past Sunday I took three trips to the bar. The first trip I got breakfast food + corn nuggets. The second trip I got fruit + corn nuggets and on the third trip I made a salad. In lieu of dressing I added some corn nuggets. Then I went back and added some dressing (and more corn nuggets). So what is a corn nugget you ask? I'm not really sure. It's like cream style corn served in a deep fried ball. The mere sight of a hot plate with corn nuggets next to nacho cheese sauce and maple syrup makes me blush - but that's what makes the Clare Big Boy so great. Corn nuggets, man. Corn nuggets. Plus all the soup, salad and breadsticks you can eat. Oh and breakfast foods too. You know come to think of it, I don't think corn nuggets are breakfast food either. They also happen to be on the bar during dinner service, but you won't hear me complain. read more

My husband & I decided to go here today for breakfast to celebrate Valentine's Day. We got the breakfast buffet. There were lots of things to chose from. :-) Unfortunately, everything was cold and/or had sat so long in the warmers (that didn't warm) they were hard. There were no biscuits out when we got there (on the plus side of that though, is we got fresh ones. :-) They asked my husband how our food was....so he told them. EVERYTHING was cold! I did have my scrambled eggs heated up. For $12.99 per person + tip....we weren't impressed. Won't waste our money here again! read more

This Big Boy was filthy, poor service. The bathrooms were disgusting. I have ate at other Big Boys and this one in Clare, Mi gives a bad reputation to the other Big Boys in Michigan. read more

I've gotten the breakfast buffet and everything is cooked great. The variety is pretty good too.

Stopped in this afternoon. Staff were working hard to prep for dinner. Food was excellent quality, fresh salad, good soup. Great service. They said they have new management and bringing things up to snuff. read more

I would not recommend eating here. The food was not good. The items on the bar appeared and tasted to be past their prime. Appeared dirty in general. Silverware was filthy. Wait staff was disheveled. Overall impression: Tired and gross! read more

Absolutely unacceptable and disappointing experience. We have stopped here a few times and found it to be wonderful..... not the case on Memorial Day. They had a long line of people waiting for tables and 8+ tables were left sitting unclean and empty. After 20 minute wait, we decided on the breakfast bar to make things easier (we thought). The bar had a spoonful of eggs, no bacon, no biscuits, 1 waffle, and 4 pieces of fruit that looked like they had been there for two days. The floor was full of food and garbage. My sandals were sticking and the bathroom..... omg... yikes. We will never go back. read more

Apparently we aren't the only ones who have had negative experiences here. Just came from a 90 minute afternoon meal when it wasn't busy at all, waited forever for everything, server was unfriendly, slow, inattentive and never even cracked a smile. We had to track her down to get our bill. Food was so-so. Thank goodness we were traveling so we will never have to return. Save yourself the frustration and don't go here. read more

Let me start by saying normally we like Big Boys, but don't waste your time at the one in Clare Mi off of US-127! Stopped at Big Boys in Clare Mi and had the worst service ever. We got sat right away and our drink order was taken right away, but everything just went down hill from there. Granted it was busy when we first got there but the rush was coming to an end. We waited over 45mins for our food. Other people who came in after us received their food before us. My son spilled his drink on the table and I went up to the servers station and asked for a rag to clean up the mess and all I got was a dry rag and no one followed me so I cleaned it up my self. I asked our waitress for a new drink for him and she brought it 15 mins later. I asked for another water for myself at that time and she never brought it by. When I inquire on wait time to the manager she said she was sorry but they were very very busy. I told her I have worked in the service industry for years I know your at the end of your rush. She had nothing to say but I'll get you your water. When the server finally brought us our food it was served to us cold and some of it was even burnt. The manager ended up taking care of us only after we had follow her through the restaurant just to get her attention because so many tables were complaining of the same thing cold food and wait time. This was the worst service experience we have ever encountered. We will never be returning to this establishment ever again. read more

Food is typical Big Boy. Service almost always is bad. I always feel like the wait staff feels inconvenienced to have to wait on people. The "back" room smells very musty, almost a mold type smell. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!!! I have watch as Clare BIG BOY has gone way downhill. After multiple "redoes" if you will, I am never going back. The wait staff is not professional, reaching across the table, drinks are refilled after 2 or more trips to the table. When the order does come there are things that are not omitted that you asked to be. Also the fact that if you are watching calories don't come here, there is no special menu. While I was not happy I purchased the salad bar. What a joke I found a "wipe rag" laying on what they call a salad bar, I was also not happy with the price. Wow the part of a salad that I had was $10.00, and all of the soup was dry and crusty. This was the option to low cal. eating? The dressing that was low cal. ranch was horrible. I will never eat here again. If you are looking for a place with a pleasant atmosphere, a low cal. option, and freshly made food don't go here. I don't even what to give a half of star. read more

This location hasn't gotten any better as of 7/21/2017 - terrible coffee (premium is their claim, but weak watery coffee is what I got) waited almost 30 minutes for my simple breakfast before leaving and they had the audacity to charge me for the coffee and 1 refill - $5.07!!! Called them on 7/25 to talk to the manager and the girl rudely told me she didn't have the time to come to the phone. Time to hit social media about this location and its terrible service and wait-staff. read more

This restaurant NEEDS an update and GOOD CLEANING. The women's bathroom is VERY disgusting. I live in Clare and when I go in there the only people I see there is out of towners. The tables are sticky and the doors are all gummed up from finger prints. They really need a good cleaning seats tables and the works. The food is not bad but the waitresses need clean uniforms no tattoo's showing no face piercings. Come on you could be a 4 star and possibly a five star dig in your pocket and clean the place up and set rules for your staff. I hope next time I come in it is better. read more
