Unfortunately, almost nothing was good about this place. Our waitress seemed clueless and 2 of the 5 of us had to choose different meals because they "were out of that". I asked for a coffee at 4:00 pm and she told me they don't make it in the afternoon. The service was poor, no refills on water or pop even when asked she didn't come back. We stopped here on Labor Day originally just to have a cold craft beer and cool down in the A/C on a wicked hot day. While enjoying our beverages we saw several plates of food go to other tables that looked appetizing so we decided to have our lunch here also. Our entrees were chicken and waffles, the tavern burger, the jalapeño chicken wrap and the club. My son said the tavern burger was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their main dishes but agreed the fries were not super hot and sort of average. High/low top, booth, patio and bar seating. Competitive pricing. Excellent, friendly service. Not a ton of options in Clare so we tried this out. Had appetizer of onion rings and for my meal I had the chicken tenders and fries. Onion rings were not made fresh per order neither were the chicken tenders or fries. Was a little disappointing. Overall was an ok lunch. read more

Party of 5, they shoved a 5th chair under a tiny table for 4 unironically and walked away. I see relatively high prices in the menu and think to myself either portions must be good or the food delicious. Timeout Tavern did not deliver on either count. A few notes. Smothered chicken is two pieces of chicken cooked until it's dry then stacked together plainly. A piece of cheese is melted over the top with lightly cooked onion and mushrooms over that. The onions aren't cooked enough for any caramelization, though the mushrooms are okay. There is no sauce to counter the dryness of the chicken. The chicken itself was cooked without anyone in the kitchen looking in the direction of so much as a salt shaker. Literally no flavors at all added. Baked mac and cheese with added chicken. The mac and cheese was probably made from powder mix. There is no discernible cheese flavor. It is not baked so no crust. The only flavor is salt. The chicken added is in the form of finely shredded chicken sprinkled on the top of the dish. I assume it is the same chicken as was served in the smothered chicken because it added no flavor of anything, just a bit of weird dryness. The pretzel appetizer could possibly be shared by two people but certainly not more. It is very small. The dip for it is listed as beer cheese but its flavor and texture was more like a mayonnaise based sauce than a cheese one. The cheese curds appetizer were delicious and I think appropriate serving but couldn't do much to take up for the rest of the failures. Alfredo pasta and chicken was cheese sauce heavy when taken as the whole is ironic. With the other dish being dry and all. Barbecue chicken boneless wings are okay. Chicken tenders basket was okay... Add 2 alcohol drinks and our after 20% tip bill for the night was $170. I'm used to spending that much for a night out somewhere and getting lots of or good food and a good experience. I'm not used to spending that much and being asked to stop at fast food on the way home because my family wasn't satisfied with their meal. I won't be patronizing this establishment again and I would suggest for anything more than a party of 2 for drinks that nobody else do so either. read more

What a nice little find, truly. I found a review that called this a Midwest Tavern and it definitely had that vibe. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. All of the food was delicious, from spicy feta dip to the reuben and right on over the the coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries. I would say it was one of the best reuben sandwiches I've had in a long time. The coconut shrimp was perfect and didn't leave you feeling greasy and weighed down. The seasoning on the sweet potato fries was on point. Also they had a decent variety of beers on tap. It's definitely worth the stop for a quick bite and that midwestern feel. read more

The owners are perhaps the most jovial and friendly in the business and it shows that they really enjoy their work environment and staff as well! We love the buffalo feta dip and highly recommend it on their signature tavern burger! Forget the ketchup and mustard and kick up your burger experience a notch! The fries! Perfect outer crunch with just enough seasoning. They come in a cute little basket as if they just came out of the fryer in their own batch. We've been here twice. The first time the service was bad and the salmon was nasty. It was old and smelly. The balsamic didn't cover up the stench.The chicken and waffles were good. The server got our order wrong and that screwed up us eating together. I didn't want her to fix it but she insisted. The 2nd time all 3 entrees were bad. It took forever to get our food and it wasn't hot. The server was okay. They have new owners now so hopefully things will get better. I'm local but not wasting any more money there. read more

First of all, let me start by saying our server, Peyton, was a gem. I wish i could rate the server separately from the establishment. She was the best thing about this place. Now, for the review. My mom and dad brought the whole family here for a nice evening out. Unfortunately, the entire experience was disappointing. It started with having to move from the bar side to the restaurant side where it was extremely warm. We asked (and they accommodated our request) to be moved back to the cooler bar area. We ordered drinks and my mom's Lemon Drop Martini tasted like pure lemonade. When she asked about it, the person we assume was the owner got very defensive., but she did make mom a different drink. Next comes the meal. They forgot my side salad. Peyton was quick to make it right. Sadly, my medium steak came out well done. They remade it, but everyone else was finished by the time it came out and it had a strange flavor. The mashed potatoes were teaming with garlic that overwhelmed the palette. It was $20 wasted. I should have followed my instincts and ordered something else. Everyone else said their food was okay but nothing remarkable. (Note: the stuffed jalapeños were very SPICY.) The icing on the cake was the chipped dishes they served my husband's food in. I took a photo and mentioned to the family I'd share the photo on Yelp. Well, that had the owner come in hot and heavy. She was appalled that we would dare share a review on Yelp. She ran over shouting, "Is there ANOTHER PROBLEM over here?!" She had such a bad attitude we were shocked. She was more worried about the Yelp review than our satisfaction. But here's the thing- if she had approached us in a conciliatory way, she might have diffused things instead of escalating things. I really liked the place ! The server was friendly and got us in and out quickly. I had the shrimp tacos. They were a perfect compliment to the hot, hazy day outside. The shrimp were grilled, the "slaw" that accompanied it in the taco was light and crisp. It came with a side of chips and salsa. Hubby got the club. It was not globbed together by mayo. It was nicely layered and looked fresh. The fries needed no ketchup, they were crisp and flavorful. The quantity of the meal, and price were just right. We'd go again. read more

The first visit the food came out quick and the service was perfect, except for the fact that the waitress grabbed my beer glass while there was still beer in it and before I was done drinking it... I absolutely HATE it when this happens! It almost made me take my review down to 4 stars. Today for lunch I think our waitress forgot to ring in one person in my parties food... after we informed her it came out quickly! It was quick because a tourist train was in town. This place is really wonderful! I had the chicken Caesar. Fresh romaine and chilled grilled chicken with shredded Parmesan and good crunchy croutons. The coffee was excellent and the iced tea was brewed. Husband had 1/2 lb pretzel burger--delightful and perfectly cooked. Fries in a metal basket were crunchy and hot. We had lunch here today. A couple of beers and a fantastic burger. The menu showed that the burger has brisket in it on a pretzel bun. I found the burger very tasty with the onion, lettuce, tomato - and I didn't need any condiments on it. The fries were good too. I love the fact that they have a beer cooler and you can just grab what you want without having to wait for the server. Customer service has always been great. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm glad so many people are having such a great experience at this place. For us that simply wasn't the case. When we arrived we were told there were no tables available so we sat at the bar, from which I could see clearly that there were tables everywhere that were empty. To top it off, as people came in behind us they were offered those same tables... But, OK. We sat there for a while and someone finally came over to ask us what we'd like to drink, and then sat there again for a solid ten minutes waiting for someone to take our order. Then we really waited... To the point that I had to ask twice where our food was. To compound the issue, a gentleman that I can only assume was/is the owner walked around behind the bar completely lost and paid no attention to me as I tried to get some information on the food. Dude, do something or get out of the way. When the food did finally show up the steak that I had ordered was totally over cooked and looked like someone had beaten it senseless in the kitchen. A total mess. While the flavor was ok, it wasn't very appealing to the eye. There was one bright spot, and I wish I knew her name, but she was absolutely killing it behind the bar trying to keep up with everyone and everything. I even asked her before we left if she was a supervisor or manager... to which she said no, which was a shame. She really was the only one back there that seemed to be doing anything. read more

I've eaten here many times and the food is usually good. My friends and I have ordered the prime rib, salmon and my favorite, the Wedge. All wonderfully cooked/prepared. The last two visits I was disappointed - the caprese salad was missing fresh basil and the shrimp tacos were wrapped in a tortilla that was cold and like cardboard.
