We love stopping in for a drink and our favorite order: a bowl of chili and the Philly cheesesteak pizza! Oh MY! While I will say the previous cook had perfected the crust to be bubbly, slightly undercooked and just the right amount of "doughy" texture, it's still our go to while we wait for the new cook to get it "just right". This restaurant is right off the main drag in Claire Michigan. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little on the dive scene of a bar. The staff was wonderful and greeted us when we walked in the door. I would recommend the southwest salad. It was a wonderful taste and mix of greens and chicken. I didn't catch her name, but the older blonde woman waiting tables that had a gap in her teeth felt entitled to more than a 10% tip for the worst service and bad attitudes we've ever had. She insulted my wife as we were walking out and called out that she received too small of a tip. When I asked her if it was customary to attempt yell at customers when you feel like you deserve a larger tip, she yelled at me to "Get the F#@* out." When I asked to speak to the manager, the guy working the bar told me they had no manager, that they were a team environment. I asked him who was in charge, he said that he was one of the employees but he could take my feedback. He lied and said he didn't hear her say anything like that (he was standing between us and already in conversation with her and I). The woman that was struggling to stay on top of her job also yelled at me because we "didn't have the decency to call ahead when they were short staffed." read more

Every time we head north we stop at Ruckle's in Clare. The food has always been good and prices are right. Staff is sometimes short but that's an issue with all restaurants anymore. During the day it is super laid back and at night it gets more lively. I went one night late and they had a DJ and it was quite the party. We have dined here twice. The Bloody Mary's are exceptional. The cafe was packed on a Friday afternoon with only seating at the bar. The service was really good and the food was great. They make their own bbq sauce for the burger. My husband was so impressed with the flavor that he insisted I taste it. It was in fact delicious. I understand the owners have purchased the Kilcare Inn in Houghton Lake. The Kilcare serves prime rib. I can't wait to try it! read more

This place is fantastic! I've stopped here about 3 times on my way home from hiking near Cadillac and each time I'm just as satisfied. The wings are great! Good size and the flavors are all exceptional, on Sunday's they are .60/each. Paninis and pizzas are tasty too! Bloody Mary's are well made as well. Nothing really bad on the menu to knowledge. This is my favorite bar in Clare. The food is good, service is AWESOME, prices are average, and the environment is exactly what you want in a small town bar. They use AMI for music so you can play whatever you'd like. The only thing that would make Ruckle's better is a pool table or two, but the space isn't really there for that. read more

I called to find out friends and family already had dinner plans tonight and I saw this post, so I called to find out what kind of fish and how much the meal ran. They said pollock and Ten something for the meal. I noticed the $2.00 off for mentioning the post and thought fish for dinner and under $10.00. The service was great but the fish way too greasy. Then when the bill came it was over $12, I mentioned the $2.00 post he said oh yeah that will be $10 something but charged me the $12 something instead. With a cottage in Farwell, Clare is the closest city for picking up groceries or grabbing a bite to eat. For a small town, Clare has got a nice gamut of restaurants to choose from, but nothing tops Ruckle's. It is by far the best place around for wings, pizza, and burgers. The place is usually filled with regulars so don't mind the awkward glances and stares as you walk through the side door. It's loud, usually packed, got a funny smelly and the beer's cold. Just the way a bar is supposed to be. If the food doesn't satisfy you, the experience certainly will. Plus, the beer costs pennies compared to what you'd pay in Mount Pleasant. read more

One wouldn't expect much from a bar on the outskirts of a tiny town in Central Michigan known mostly for Amish woodworking. But there's just something about Ruckle's Pier on Main Street in Clare Michigan that fits in with the up-north vacationing lifestyle. Bedecked with a nautical theme and lots of wooden modling, Ruckle's is the home to cheap beer in frosty mugs and some great food. I was impressed by my ham sub and also the ceasar salad, and not just because I have low standards for anything cooked in Clare. To be honest, I've had bad experiences in this city before, most notably and Town and Country where the buffet consisted of brown iceberg lettuce and spamsteak. Regardless, the food was good at Ruckle's. Good from a restaurant I didn't expect it from. Good for a bar. And just good. Also, my pints of beer were $1.45 each which is like the greatest thing since karaoke night in a hick-town, which by the way, this place has. Ruckle's also has a few small televisions, a decent -sized bar area and some pool tables. A cool place to stop by if you are in the area or just want to people watch on a late night. read more

Went here with several guests after our wedding Saturday night (10/17/2015) and the staff started complaining as soon as we all walked in the door. Their bar was dead when we came in, by the way. They should have been excited to have such a large group walk in, meaning a chance for them to make extra tip money. But instead they were rude, and insulted us.
