I went to this Big Boy because my grandma was hungry for something other than McDonald's because we were on a road trip. Biggest mistake we made. Burgers were dry and stale, tasted expired. Pumpkin pie, the fork wouldn't even go inside it. Ditto the other food, and this place was extremely disgusting. There were fruit flies everywhere. The service was mostly okay, but the food is horrible and probably expired. Trust me, my grandmother never complains, and she refused to eat this food, saying it was horrible and that it would make her sick. Toys restaurant shares a driveway with the local hotel. From the outside is not the best shape and the parking lot is very rough. Watch where you're walking so you don't hurt yourself. Upon entering the restaurant it was understaffed. This is too be a little expected, but only 3 other tables was seated. It took 5 minutes to be sat down. The service was swift but not efficient. Had to go to the server stand to get my drink refilled. The fish and chips I ordered was way overcooked. The food was Bland and not honestly worth the cost. The fish was re done and it was flaky and better the second time. Other customers near the table told me that this location is not a good representative of big boy. Towards the entrance is quite blatant attempts to use kids to get more money by using games like gum ball and claw machines. There was also a tiny book section which I liked but I also like books so maybe I'm biased. We were seated pretty quickly. Something in the restaurant smelled really bad, making me feel slightly ill. The women's bathroom floor was sticky. The waitress was good. We didn't have to wait long for food. The fish and chips were nothing to fight over. The chocolate chip cookie tasted basic. We arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon and there were 12 people ahead of us waiting to be seated. The hostess seated the two big parties in a timely manner and then seated us. The waitress was at the table immediately. She took our drink orders and left the menus. The food was good. It was Big Boy fare that we knew we'd get when we chose the restaurant. I give the staff and the leadership high marks for atmosphere. The waitress was engaging and attentive. Throughout the restaurant employees were thanking one another, smiling and laughing. Came her to grab a quick breakfast so my husband and I decided to just get the breakfast bar. Neither one of us could eat the waffles and the gravy tasted spoiled. We thought for $9.99 there would more to offer and of better quality. It took my husband 3 plates from the clean stack before he found one actually clean. I looked at my plate and there was melted cheese on it! There was no cheese on the breakfast bar so looks like I got someones leftovers. Long story short we paid $26.46 to leave feeling sick and having heartburn ( he got it within 10 minutes of starting to eat.) Both servers who helped us were nice so they have that. However the older lady that cashed us out was polite at first until she throw the pen at me to sign my credit card receipt and ran off before I even had a chance to put the pen to paper. Havn't used yelp before, but after this visit to the clare big boy I had to make an account to leave a review. The restaurants appearence right as you walk in is just dragged down and dirty. The staffs attitude immediately sticks out as very casual as if they're there to hang out. Was seated promptly due to the restaurant not being very busy. After being sat, the hostess brought our silverware, which was just tossed in front of us very unprofessionally. My silverware was tossed over my shoulder and spun from hitting my menu as I was reading where it unraveled on the table. The hostess made no note of this and walked off. After 15 minutes of being ignored by every waitress and not being able to put in so much as a drink order, one of us went up front to ask if we could see a manager. Not only did he not know who was suppose to be our waitress, the hostess who sat us couldnt even remember where we were sat. Instead of resolving the issue immediately by taking our order, the staff just kept asking eachother who was suppose to wait on us and passed the blame to eachother. Clare is conveniently on our way to a lot of our road trip destinations for my family of 4, and Big Boy is typically decent food, decent service, and a decent price. We stopped in at 7:00pm on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was somewhat empty. Our server took our drink order and disappeared for 15 minutes. We let another server know what happened (we couldn't find our server), and she came over with our bill. After we explained the situation again, 2 more servers came over to take our drink order. Once we finally got it straightened out, the service and food were fine. It was extremely frustrating, especially with our tired and hungry kids doing their best to behave. Stopped on our way north with grandsons 4 and 9. Waited forever to be seated. Waitress finally came and sighed each time we said our drink selection. Got one cup of coffee, no refills because they were out of coffee. Order came 55 minutes after we were seated. Forgot to punch it in. Potato pancakes were nothing more than hash browns in circles. Big boy is big boy but for breakfast, this was one of the better ones. Service was quick, including items we ordered vs. buffet. Buffet was regularly updated and items were still hot. My stuffed potato pancake was good. The thing is they had no sour cream or honey. Supposedly someone ran to the store but still, how do you not have items that are on the menu? read more

We stopped here on our way home this morning for breakfast. The restaurant wasn't busy yet, a few tables were filled, but a lot of seating was open. We were seated by a polite young lady acting as hostess/waitress. It took several minutes for an actual waitress to greet us and take our drink order. One of us opted for the buffet, but 2 of us opted to order from the menu. We placed our order and while we waited for our order to be prepared, the person in our party who chose the buffet went to get their food. The buffet was stocked well at first. As more people arrived it seemed the kitchen had a hard time keeping up with the orders and the needs of the buffet. While we were waiting, we noticed there was one of the senior waitresses causing conflict with several of the other younger waitstaff and the tables were not being attended too. We were still waiting for our food to be prepared and the person who chose the buffet had 2 plates and was already done. I kept watching the window for our food and it finally came after about 45 minutes...and the pancakes weren't Oreo pancakes, they were plain. The farmers omelet was very light on the ham and cheese. At this point, they were just eaten so we could get back on the road. I didn't see a manager to speak with, I just saw a lot of waitstaff standing behind the counter doing nothing. Don't know if I will return, because it took way too long!
