Been my favorite restaurant in not just Harrison, but all up north for about 30 years.... WOW I just realized how old I am ... But anyways yes I love me some airport, and there breakfast omelettes are my favorite

Parking right behind the diner, can't beat that!

Aster - Steak to go!

Family celebrating Birthday dinner at Aster. Conveniently located downtown Midland, MI…read more Made reservation for four and we were seated immediately by the host upon arrival. Clean tables, cloth napkins, nice silverware, subtle lighting, intimate atmosphere. Friendly waiter service consistently checking on our table regularly filling waters and clearing plates replacing with new clean plates and silverware between courses. The staff and kitchen did a superb job of spacing out the courses so the drinks and appetizers came out with good timing. Finished appetizers, plates cleared from first course; the entrees arrived promptly. From my observation the staff works well together to provide a very nice dining experience for their customers from start to finish. Ordered starters: small portion appetizers. Asparagus. diced asparagus with diced morel mushroom morsels. Very good. Shrimp Toast. Harder to share as an appetizer, one piece of toast with shrimp pate. I did not try, group seemed to enjoy. Entrees: Burger Filling burger when you order "make it a double", the double is actually three beef patties. Comes with waffle cut fries. Yummy cheddar cheese sauce. I liked the brioche bun because it is soft enough to hold the burger and absorb the cheese sauce without being too messy. Smoked Whitefish Hushpuppies. Basically scrambled egg lighly battered and fried. No flavor or hint of smoked Whitefish fish. "Cocktail sauce" was just ketchup I suspect. Light and fluffy, not dense like traditional hushpuppies. One order comes with five hushpuppies for 10 dollars, the "Smoked Whitefish Hushpuppies" starter is not worth two dollars per piece. Pajun (Korean savory pancake). I really liked this dish last time I dined at Aster. This time the Pajun was burnt on the top and undercooked on the bottom. Love the soy dipping sauce. I will ask for more soy dipping sauce next time. The clever combinations of ingredients -considering local sourcing and seasonal items is- admirable. Plenty of variety for any taste. Drinks ordered: Birthday "Beer and shot": Bartender selected glass of beer, and bartender selected shot glass of hard liquor. Offer "Temperance Pilsner" (non-alcoholic). The unfortunate quality of the burnt Pajun, Hushpuppies with no flavor, but the service is excellent so I will give 5 star. I will be back to Aster to enjoy the next seasonal menu items they offer.

I can't believe it's been so long since I've come to the River Junction! My family and I used to…read morecome here all the time but it looks like we haven't been since I switched to YELP. So we are way overdue!! I ordered the smothered chicken with vegetables and a house salad. My husband ordered the Muskegon Melt and fries, my daughter got the kids mac n cheese and my son got a personal pizza. We had the cheese bread and hand dipped mushrooms for an appetizer. The hand dipped mushrooms were ridiculous! Usually when you order fried mushrooms it comes out in a basket of 6-8, this was a serious basket of mushrooms! Well worth the cost of an appetizer and they were very crunchy and tasty. The dough on the bread and pizza were cooked to perfection. When my husband ordered the Muskegon melt, he was not asked what temperature he would like it cooked to. It came out mid well and my husband usually likes it mid rare. However, he enjoyed the burger nonetheless. My son rates his pizza 3 out of 5 stars and saying it was just underwhelming. The pineapple was canned, it was too greasy, and he couldn't taste the onion. The kids Mac n cheese got 5 stars from the 9 year old Mac n cheese connoisseur. I tried it and it had good flavor but the pasta was overcooked. My smothered chicken was dry! However there was good flavor throughout the dish. Food quality gains 3/5 stars this trip, taste gains 4 stars, and freshness gains 3/5 stars as well since some of the ingredients came from frozen or a can. Service gains 4/5 stars! Our waiter was attentive and polite. I would only suggest remembering to go over the specials and asking how people would like their meat cooked. Otherwise, he was spot on. Ambiance and cleanliness also gain 5 stars. I have no feedback to offer here. I love the relaxed country theme and it's well pulled off. This gives 3.8 stars overall but this will be rounded up to 4 stars! Oh and we finished our meal with a lava cake... ummm only way to end this meal!! It was fantastic!! If you're driving through I recommend giving River Junction a try.
