Decent restaurant in/near Sugar Springs in Gladwin. We went on a Saturday afternoon during the busy craft show across the street. The restaurant was pretty slow. Ordered a grilled chicken salad with almonds, dried cherries and mixed greens. It was good. My husband ordered the polish sausage entree. He thought it tasted good. Our daughter ordered a pineapple and cheese pizza. She thought it was good as well. Overall, the food was decent. Nothing too exciting or out of the normal. read more

This is a small restaurant that is good if you are in Gladwin, MI. Gladwin is a small town and restaurants are somewhat limited. The Hearth has a cute new bar area. The decor is pretty basic and plain. The service was great! Every one of the servers had a smile, was polite and attentive. When we were there, they had a low number of customers. The food was average at best and seemed a bit pricey for the quality...as previously stated, when it comes to restaurants in Gladwin, pickings are slim. If not for the great service, I would have been pretty disappointed and would have scored this eatery lower. read more

I'll sum it up for you- this place is terrible. The food has been awful for 3-4 years. My mom retired to the area and obviously there aren't a lot of choices, so we've been grateful for this place, but after four years of bad meals this feedback is warranted. We have shared our comments with waitstaff and management numerous times yet the food only gets worse! The most horrifying experience was our last visit. We were seated in the back directly across from the kitchen doors... After observing what was taking place in the kitchen we lost our appetite. The specific conduct won't be mentioned, but we did capture it in video and will post it to social media if management doesn't take steps to ensure food safety and public health food regulations are abided by. Bottom line the chef and the management need to go- you all should be ashamed for serving food that shitty. It's a con that you're able to pass that bs off on the seniors who keep coming back because there is no other option. Is it edible? Maybe... but I can assure you with every degree of objectivity that it will not be good, great, outstanding, or anything tantalizing for your taste buds at all. read more

The Hearth Restaurant is part of the Sugar Springs resort community north of Gladwin, MI; it's adjacent to the resort's well-regarded golf course. So my partner and I were expecting a country-club quality meal when we decided to visit. We walked in to encounter a dated, musty and rather shabbily maintained interior and were escorted to a lower-level dining area that I think was intended to resemble the dining room of ye olde Englishe country estate. Unfortunately, the focal point of the room, a large antique sideboard, was cluttered with cleaning solution bottles and staffpeople's sodas. As we tried to read through the menu we were also treated to servers' loud shop talk just feet away; if I closed my eyes I could have sworn I was seated in the kitchen or the employee break room. The restaurant menu can't seem to decide whether the restaurant is a fast-food snack bar for golfers or a "destination" restaurant -- there are lots of sandwiches and pizza offered, but a rather limited and uninteresting dinner menu. On the evening we visited, the waitress pushed a taco-bar special; I had to ask to find out about the dinner special. My partner decided to try chicken fettucine with a garlic-and-oil dressing, while I chose a jerk-style chicken. Our soup and salad course did not bode well for the rest of the meal. My partner's onion soup was obviously from a can, or a vat -- it was incredibly salty and unflavorful, and topped with some sort of inappropriate yellow-and-white shredded cheese. My "tossed" salad consisted of a handful of romaine, two baby carrots, two large onion rings and a couple pieces of tomato and cucumber that seem to have been added as an afterthought. And the "fresh brewed" iced tea promised on the menu was obviously from a fountain. Still, we hoped that our entrees would redeem our experience thus far. We were o so wrong. My partner's fettucine had the look and texture of overcooked pasta left soaking in its cooking water. The chicken looked and tasted like canned chicken simply stirred into the pasta. The dish -- literally, the dish -- was sprinkled with a few meaningless teaspoons of dried minced parsley. The garlic in the dish was not fresh garlic; and we had our doubts that the oil was even OLIVE oil. We had to ask for parmesan cheese for the pasta; what we got was neither freshly grated nor fresh tasting. My "jerk " chicken was merely a grilled chicken breast sprinked with a very inauthentic spice mixture -- no apparent marination, no saucing, no fruit consistent with a Caribbean jerk dish, no flavor. I had ordered the vegetable of the day as an accompaniment, and was served overcooked boiled asparagus spears with no seasoning whatsoever. My dish was garnished, if that is the correct term, with a soggy, incongruous piece of kale. Not quite as bad as the food was our service -- lackadaisical to say the least, despite FIVE different individuals coming to our table with various components of our meal. None of the waitresses/hostesses seemed to have any professional experience or desire to engage with customers in a friendly fashion. The busboy was the only staffperson exhibiting a modicum of courtesy/helpfulness. If our meals had been a high school home economics assignment, the students would have failed. The food was absolutely awful, as was the service (busboy excepted). Lesson learned: Country club prices in a country-club atmosphere do not always ensure country-club-quality food. read more

The Hearth is the restaurant located along side the Sugar Springs golf course. Wonderful northern Michigan atmosphere inside. Everyone enjoyed their dinners. I had the Mediterranean pizza. Great crust, wonderful flavor. I would get it again. My son enjoyed his Reuben. My mom and daughter each had the quesadillas and both really enjoyed them. Only issue I had was the delay in getting our food. Took way longer than it should. They were busy but not full. read more

Chocolate milk was a 2/5 very average chocolate milk. It's not on brand they mix Hershey chelate syrup into white milk, personally, that's not to my liking. So I tried some water after finishing my chocolate milk and it tasted metallic like blood. The butter was too hard to even use and the sauce was kept cold. Bread was okay. Pizza was pretty good definitely the best option read more

The Summer Lunch Sandwich specials change by the month and it's hard to decide. They are also available on Wednesdays at the dinner hour. You can't beat their homemade soups and salad dressings. As a person with food allergies, I appreciate being able to find out exactly what is in a dish and to be able to delete an item, if necessary, since the food is freshly prepared in the kitchen. You can't do that if the food is from a box or the freezer. The staff is friendly and there are drink specials. read more

The Hearth is a lovely establishment located in a beautiful area along side a golf course. I have enjoyed many good lunches and dinners there. Service has improved in the last year and I find myself going there more often with friends. They have no trouble handling s group of 12-14 who show up without a reservation. This is s moderately priced restaurant with middle of the raid fare. It is not fine dining but it is s step above comfort food. You always feel comfortable there. We had heard a few bad things from a local about The Hearth, but while on vacation, I needed WiFi and a place to catch the game and The Hearth was the closest place. I'm glad we gave The Hearth a chance. Great menu and drink prices, no processed ingredients, educated wait staff, and the General Manager took the time to ensure our dining experience was up to par. We came in specifically for the Wednesday dinner special, as the manager took us to the table he tried to hide the special menu, putting it behind his back and then carrying it away. We just shook our heads as it appeared so deceptive. We ordered two drinks during Happy Hour but were charged full price. Decided not to make an issue out of $2, but just left feeling like it is a dishonest place. My wife and I stopped in for a meal and we were extremely pleased withe the quality of the food. We have eaten at other local establishments and The Hearth was a delight to go to. I do prefer the beautiful view of the golf course as compared to the general dining area. The portion sizes were excellent except for the side salad which was a little small.
