There is a great selection and variety. I mostly go for the toys. There is a specific toy that I seek and this is the place to find them. While their toy department is not huge and is just a relatively smaller department within the store, what they do have is quality stuff, things that people actually seek out. Lego sets, RCs, educational children's toys, games, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent selection of disc golf discs. They even had some of one of my favorite brands, Kastaplast! Either Kastaplast is finally getting some mainstream recognition or Scheels has a good sporting goods manager. Speaking of which, Ashton is a great guy and truly thinks of the customer first and the customer's experience. There were even Zuca disc golf carts there. And they were all on sale. Another aspect to love about Scheels are the things you can do there like mini bowling, shooting arcade, and the Ferris wheel. You can have a date there for cheap! And then go to the cafe for a meal or treats. BTW, the jerky they sell there is excellent! All the employees there are very helpful. In some small ways, Scheels is better than Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse. In this competitive market, small ways is what stands you apart. I really like those other stores, too, but Scheels just feels different. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Sorry to do this but things are very different at Scheels than in the past…read more I spent 30 minutes in the Kuhl department and no one even offered help or bothered to say hello. (I had several questions) 10 minutes in golf department. Same story. 20 minutes in BBQ and the two guys there seemed more worried about the display looking great than offering help. I've always loved Scheels but I am very disappointed with the current lake of service or lack of. I hope things improve! (I only spent $250)

I will certainly be back when I'm ready to buy the camping items I chose... gotta check reviews online first of course. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. She then suggested an insert to Provide support and resulted in complete relief from the rubbing and pinching experienced when trying on various boots.Aimee then proceeded to recommend a boots explaining the different design details between the companies. It was an awesome experience by an exceptionally knowledgeable employee who was truly interested in getting you the right fitting shoe.

What I can say with certainty is that Big 5 is an all-around kind of place. Not so much for outdoors enthusiasts--others excel in that category. If they do edge anyone out it's in the shoe department which is pretty hefty, especially if you're not looking to spend a ton. Hiking boots, running shoes, tennies, and lots in between. But really, Big 5 is about covering the bases (pun intended) and offering a modest selection of everything. They also have socks, hats, and other accessories from your favorite club. I am pleased to say that the experience was truly incredible and I would give more than 5 stars if possible. I bought a used bike last week for my son through the classifieds. He was so anxious to ride it but it needed some work. I called Hangar 15 in the morning and they confirmed they had the shoes we needed in stock. I didn't call any other stores since I felt I needed to give them an opportunity to win back my patronage and to try a fresh start. They also committed to installing pedals immediately if we purchased them at the store and confirmed the correct version of speedplays were in stock over the phone. This was a big deal since it normally would have taken several days. We drove down less than an hour later and they treated my teenage son who is very new to cycling like royalty. Pedals installed, shoes fitted... they even put new handlebar tape on the bike and put it on a trainer so he could learn to clip in and clip out of the new pedals. The store was busy but they gave us the personal touch and professional treatment. We rode 40 miles the next day from the Murdoch trail up to Bridal Veil falls in Provo canyon and back. I was very very impressed. The store staff was active, professional, and paid attention to detail. I will go to them first if I need bike stuff... we have five kids and a garage full of bikes.
