We drove into Cotopaxi downtown SLC 'home base' store because my wife needed a different size of the brightly- and cheerfully-colored Fuego hooded puffer jacket she was gifted for Christmas. They didn't have the same color in stock any more -- it had been on sale when it was purchased from Cotopaxi.com -- and a bit surprising to us for the cost they charge, even for sales promotions, that they won't let you trade across for a different color in the same model. But they did search other store inventories and soon were talking to a Colorado retail store to arrange to have the right size & same color shipped for free out to her. It took about 12 days to arrive because the CO store initially erred in how they prepped the shipment (so she got a warehouse email saying it actually wasn't available anymore, and the "get help" phone number included in the email wasn't actually working) but after we called back the SLC store, Christian soon got things fixed and followed up with a call to her to apologize and clarify the shipment was indeed on the way. That's the kind of save-the-day, personal-touch attitude that turned a huge disappointment (as stylish, athletic, and "fairly sourced" as their apparel may be) into a win! Bought a puffer vest for myself, too, because they've made me a fan. (They just gotta smooth out some of their online sales and support processes to really get to five-star.) read more

My family got me their Fuego hoodie for my birthday. They ordered the hoodie online, by happen chance, there was a one-off labeling issue and I ended up with the wrong size when it got to my door. I decided to bring it into this store to see what they thought. I spoke with Matthew and he was extremely accommodating. He made sure I was taken care of with the correct size. While doing so he took the time to explain the product and how to best use it. All in all, Im impressed with his customer service, professionalism and overall eagerness to tend to clients. I had heard of Cotopaxi but didn't know anything about. While browsing at their store I learned much about their mission and I am very impressed with their business model--their responsibility to help in the countries where they do business, to be ecological responsible, to provide good quality, and to guarantee their products. They have some products that I really liked--their t-shirt material is very soft, their jackets are very light, and their Del Dia line that uses remnant material with no two items being exactly the same is impressive. I was disappointed with two products. Their Libre sweater made of "ultra soft llama fiber" was not that soft. I crochet with 100% llama fiber and the fiber is sublimely soft so I was expecting that same level of softness. I was also disappointed with the construction of the Luzon Del Dia 18L back pack. I liked that it had a draw string opening but it was pretty impossible to pull the draw string to completely close the opening. I was debating between the 16L Batac Del Dia backpack with the zippered opening and the Luzon backpack. I had to go with the Batac because I needed a pack that was easy to close completely. read more

This is such a great shop. The products are amazing, and if you don't see a color combination you are immediately in love with, ask and they'll show you others from the back. The staff were helpful, even going so far as to bring out their own laptop from the back when I was trying to figure out if my behemoth would fit. That was the deciding factor in my getting the bag, and I appreciate them taking that extra step. I love the company's ethic behind their items and the fact that the one I've got was hand designed by someone. I really love Cotopaxi. They sell great outdoor gear, but a lot of companies do that. What really makes them awesome is all of the additional special interest projects that they do. They support many causes, and truly seem passionate about it. This is their first brick and mortar store, and it is lovely. It's pretty small, but they have a good assortment of most of the items they sell on their website. My sister and I actually attended a free yoga class they hosted, and it was fabulous! Again, I love that they genuinely seem interested in involving their community. Plus, the building they are in is charmingly old, and the upstairs space is super gorgeous with the original ceiling and some of the structural details that must have been so stunning when that space was first built. I have their Luzon Del Dia backpack and I love it! It's very high quality, and the perfect size for a day hike. The coolest thing is no two are alike. The crafters in the Phillipines, I believe, choose the colors and create them however they desire. Pretty awesome! I buy a lot of outdoor gear, but I love shopping at Cotopaxi because if I'm going to buy it anyways I might as well support a business that is doing so many great things in the world. I truly love this store. It's a shop in the heart of downtown, with great products, and great values. Their motto is "Gear for Good" so they donate to charities and use scrapes to make excellent, unique products. I have one of their day packs and it's durable, the perfect size, and super cute! But I love this store particularly because they are always looking for ways to involve the community. Every month they have free yoga events, with snacks, drinks, and giveaways after. It's always a good class, with good people, and good vibes. One of the employees, McKenna, plans all of these events and is always so sweet and such a pleasure to chat with. I was introduced to Cotopaxi June 2017 when my friend invited me to join a morning yoga session in the park. It was such an energizing morning that was sponsored by Cotopaxi. They gave out a coupon so it lured me into their store. I'm happy I stopped in and purchased a Luzon Del Dia 18L daypack and picked up two Agua Water Bottles of different sizes. The customer service was great. Since I got a del dia pack, the store associate was kind in bringing down different colors multiple times. Also when I used my coupon they were happy to oblige, and even threw in a coupon for a questival that I ended up using a few months later. I've used my daypack in the grand tetons, yellowstone backcountry (packed my quarter dome tent, and minimalist solo overnight gear - it all fit!), death valley, zion, bryce, yosemite, and Escalante. I list all that because altho the hip straps aren't the best (like borderline useless for someone shaped like me [it rides up, I have to keep my thumbs on the strap to keep it down and take some of the weight off my shoulders]), I still love my pack and take it everywhere with me. read more

They even told me about some of the items coming out in the next collection that hasn't been released. Definitely planning to visit again when I come back. I went into the Cotopaxi store in SLC for their Sample Sale last weekend and I loved everything about the experience. The staff at this store really know their stuff and I was able to pick up a few things from the sample boxes. They made my payment process fast by having employees walking around and taking payment on iPads which I thought was a really nice touch. The layout of their store is well orchestrated and every piece of gear has a story tied to it. I really liked that they put some passion in making their products. The person who helped me talked about how each product is special and what kind of materials go into making them. We were halfway across Nevada when I realized I really shoulda bought that sick backpack. We had stopped in SLC for the night on a road trip, next stop was Lake Tahoe by way of the I-80 clear across northern Nevada. Before hitting the road, we got some fuel at starbucks, and to our delight, there was a Cotopaxi store right next door. I didn't even realize they had a store... We browsed for a while, chatted with one of their really friendly employees, and gawked at all the awesome uniquely colored Del Dia packs. Fast forward a few hours and a couple hundred miles of driving, and I was having complete reverse buyers remorse. Really shoulda bought that sick Tarak Del Dia climbing backpack. Its not as easy as ordering one online either, since each of the Del Dia packs have a unique color combo. I was gonna take a shot in the dark here, give the store a call, and ask if anyone there could FaceTime me so I could pick the bag I wanted. My girlfriend thought I was totally crazy. I thought I was a little crazy. What the heck though, we have all day in the car, might as well. Queue Spencer, the man, the legend, the dude who answered my call at the store. I gave him the low-down on my situation, and how I regretted not picking out a pack while I was there, and he totally felt my pain. With zero hesitation he agreed to FaceTime with me and show me some bags. We hopped on FaceTime and this hero of a dude gave me the grand tour of every bag in the store. We hung up and he continued sending me pics. I could tell that Spencer would not rest until we found the perfect one. Well we found it! I sent him my info, and boom, it was shipped. This whole experience really made my day, and I was really impressed with the willingness of the staff to accommodate a customer in such a weird way. Cotopaxi Flask/Water Bottle Review I ordered a Cotopaxi pack on a Black Friday sale and a water bottle was included in the deal. I already had 2 hydroflasks, one 16 oz. thermos and a 32 oz. flask. This one was a great 500 ml size that I use primarily for come fluid, which I have used at work, at the gym, international travel, and various backpacking trips. It is by a long shot the flask I use the most! Here are the positives and negatives, in my opinion: Pros: 1) Truly keeps liquids cold for 12-24 hours. I use the ice pebbles at work, which typically dissolve into the water within an hour or so in a normal mug/cup. I have filled and refilled the flask with water multiple times, taken home and had overnight, and wake up to have ice remaining each time--all from the initial ice fill. I am impressed every time. 2) The size is perfect. My 32 oz. Hydroflask is great, but I strongly recommend the 500 ml. It makes drinking plenty of water more manageable for me. 3) The color/design is pleasing to the eye. As much as I don't want to admit it, aesthetic goes a long way for me, as I'm sure it does for most people. There is a wide range of color selections, all vibrant and developed. The signature Llama logo is front and center on the bottle, which looks great. The narrowed neck and silver cap enhance the look as well. 4) As mentioned before, I travel and backpack frequently, and my Cotopaxi flask is the only one I consistently bring with me. The main reason for this is its durability. I have dropped this on cement sidewalks, used it dirty camp sites, and knicked it on edges of tables, the sink, etc. and it has come out without a scratch. It really is remarkable. It withstands a lot, which is important for an adventurer (a clumsy one, at that), and is very easy to clean. 5) The pricing is competitive for the quality of materials and its functional use. I have noticed the efficacy is neck-and-neck with Hydroflask, but is slightly cheaper in price. Con (s): 1) Previous reviewers have mentioned that its 2-piece design is not quite as good as the 3-piece design of other brands. My hydroflasks are both 2-piece as well, so that is all I have to compare it to. I have used a 3-piece system in the past while snowboarding in sub-zero weather, and my hot chocolate stayed piping hot on a full day on the mountain. I am positive that it would not keep the liquid hot like the 3-piece system did. The silver cap is not insulated or vacuum-sealed tight, which contributes to this. But at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend the Cotopaxi flask. read more

I stepped into the new Cotopaxi retail location right in the heart of downtown SLC because I'm a big gear-nut and wanted to see their amazing sense of style and store-design and cool bags. Now, this isn't reflective of the company, per se, but given that this was the first day they've been actually OPEN (either today, or sometime this week), you'd think their customer service would be top-notch and ready to make anyone that walks into the store excited about coming in for a cool new waterbottle, tshirt, hat, backpack, tent, etc... Instead, I wandered around, making it a point to touch, gawk, and be interested in the items. I was in the store for about 10 minutes doing this, taking it all in...and not ONE single person greeted me or asked if I could be helped. And this didn't happen the first time I walked in today, but the SECOND time as well. I suppose customer service is a foreign concept to high-end gear stores these days. I know that when I once worked for another gear dealer here in SLC we were actually taught and encouraged to have great service. Here's hoping they learn a bit and make this new Cotopaxi store successful! read more
