I had an odd maybe even disturbing experience the other night at my go to Big 5. Younger male sad to say "gentlemen" couldn't get his name of how uncomfortable I walked out, tall blonde hair split in the middle. Was to busy talking about this "Work hoe Lynette" not knowing I was on the other side of the aisle as I was trying to get help from absolutely no one. This gentleman had quit a lot to say about this young lady very disturbing quit frankly. It's seems to only catch the mangers attention by leaving reviews so I will go ahead and do so. I as well as other's will agree that work is not the right place to discuss and brag about quote on quote "she cheated on him with me" or maybe "but I hung out with her in the parking lot after work" at work. Management at this location is vary poor on teaching these young "kids" what is and what is not okay to discuss at a workplace. Please take action to this poor behavior. read more

We've shopped at this location for 30+ years (our sons are now in their late 30's) and always had excellent customer service. Today was no different. My husband purchased a pair of DrScholls black shoes(he always bought white athletic shoes Dr Scholls) about 2 weeks ago. Wearing them everyday he began to have a problem on the side of his right foot. Unfortunately, he misplaced the receipt. We went into the store today and asked for an exchange of the shoes. The manager was very kind & helpful and gave us a 100% credit & we came back with a new pair of the white athletic shoes. Hopefully no more pain. I give 100% positive customer service! read more

I was taken aback by all the bad reviews I read for this Big 5 store. Every time I've stopped in, the staff has been super cheerful --- it seems they never fail to greet you at the door --- and the prices are good, like at all the Big 5's. As an example, I recently bought a lockable handgun case here, priced several dollars less than at a nearby specialty hunting/fishing store. When I got the gun case home, I found it didn't fit my pistol well, so I returned it to Big 5 without any hassle. So these folks get 5 stars. They'd get 6 stars if they had .22 ammo in stock. ;) BTW, read some of my other reviews on Yelp, and you'll see that I can be pretty harsh on businesses that mess up. In my experience, this Big 5 has not been bad at all, and I hate to see them possibly being treated unfairly. read more

This store is the closest Big 5 to my new place but received only 2 stars and after visiting the store, i see it got 2 stars too many! The place is jam pack with boxes like the show "hoarders" and if earthquakes hit this place, anyone who shop here would be buried alive!! I was looking for some gears and when I finally found someone to help, it was the assistance manger Nick and he said he didn't know if they have any since it's not in season yet gave me the "turn left, turn right and turn right" kinda direction to navigate this " maze". I did found the items finally but it is covered in dust. How could a manager know the products has been on the shelves since probably last summer in perhaps a 900 sq foot space? If an assistance manager does not know whether they have "unbox" their summer gears in early Springs, and couldn't care less to help find it, it's hard to imagine the rest of employees would focus on customer service. Hate to see retail store with physical goods to go outta business but who wants to drive to the stores and come home empty handed. The sole reason I come here is for the prices. It's way more affordable for pretty much any sporting equipment!! Due to the lack of leadership you can tell why this store is terrible. The managers don't care therefore the employees don't...which results in lack of knowledge & training. There was a huge sign for sale on dri fit socks but they wouldn't give it to me because it was a mistake. I even suggested walking over there & removing the signs which they didn't. If you're willing to attempt to communicate with incompetent people who can't tell you the difference between a soccer ball & a baseball, you can find some great deals!! read more

We had Jess as our cashier and honestly have NEVER had someone so disrespectful. We shop at Big 5 a lot as we coach and are league board members for baseball and soccer in our community. This store is not a store we frequent but we were out there due to a tournament. My husband and I split our items to 2 transactions since we each had a coupon for 10 off 40. This immediately caused a huge sigh from Jess and multiple eye rolls through the 2 minute transaction. She threw the jacket my husband purchase in a bag and proceeded to ring me out. No friendly chatter or hello and again multiple eye rolls when I pulled up my coupon. She handed me my receipt and did not put my multiple items into a bag. When I asked for a bag she let out a huge sigh with eye roll put my items in and then with great attitude tossed my bag on the counter with a (here's your bag attitude). I was so shocked with the complete disregard of customer service I said nothing. There were others in line so I did not want to cause a scene in a busy store and with my children present. Her complete lack of customer service and respect for myself and my family was quiet shocking and appalling. I will never stop at this store again. I really hope you remove her from cashier and maybe keep her away from any position that deals with the public. Her attitude was completely uncalled for as we didn't have a difficult or confusing transaction. Please remedy this so this store doesn't continue to lose more business. read more

I was there last night and purchased about $170 for ammunition and protective ear and eyewear for an event I was going to today. I was told in advance that I couldn't return the ammo. I understood so that's no problem. Matt, the manager, was the one that helped me out that night and he rang me up wrong. I came back today and they fixed his error but refused to return one item that was $7 and change because there was no receipt. Not until I took down his name and informed him I was going to follow up then he offered to look up my receipt. He came back a few minutes later with the receipt. Of course he did! He rang me up on the register that was on the side away from the main registers. My transaction was probably the only one on that register that day. At that point he was only wasting both our time because he was on a power trip. Big 5 is not the best deal around. It's convenient. I paid more for that convenience. But after that experience I will gladly take my money elsewhere. read more

Big 5 prices are competitive and a whole lot cheaper than Dicks or Sports Authority where you are going to pay the full retail value. Yes, the merchandise is packed in and the parking is small. The personnel at this store however seems to be consistent in providing good customer service and because of that I will always come to this location . I have never left THIS store unhappy. Came in for an exchange today, I've never done an exchange or return at this store before so I tried to familiarize myself with the policy to make it a smoother process. I didn't have my receipt for the hiking boots i bought, the in store policy says you can still exchange for in-store credit but they won't refund money. I go in, cashier greets me with a smile, i greet her back, i let her know what I'm here for and she says I can go ahead and pick out some shoes to exchange for. The problem arises when Nick comes along. I'm by the shoe wall trying to pick out some working boots and behind me i hear a confrontational and quivering voice "Hey buddy, we can't exchange your shoes, we can sell you new ones but you don't even have a receipt." I tell him the online website states the in store policy and look it up on my phone so I can show him and discuss it. Eye contact is good in a conversation, but his was excessive and over compensating in this situation when we were discussing this dilemma. He said he'd allow the exchange this time but he'd put a "red flag" on my account for next time. I ask him what the heck that means and he says "so next time we know you did something like this." In my head I said "Did what??? exchange a god damned pair of boots??" From the start of it all I knew he had the sense that I wanted to something malicious when in reality I didn't. The bad vibes were ever present and it made it even more difficult not to respond sarcastically or condescending. He rang me up at the register, good manners and all. Made up for what happened previously. As he printed the receipt he didn't hand me it and I asked "No receipt?" he responded with "Without a receipt, you don't get a receipt." and proceeds to rip in front of me.This is what primarily made me write this, otherwise it would've been all fine. I swear Nick thought I would have the intention to do this all over again, no where does it say in the in-store policy "Without a receipt, you don't get a receipt." This guy just wanted to give himself some sort of satisfaction for dealing with me and thought it would be the nail in the coffin for me. In reality in was pathetic and I laughed in my head at the situation. Despite being a customer for many years here, I'm not returning again. I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible. worst customer service ever. You go in and are not greeted or asked anything. you have to find your own things. this is very difficult when looking for amunition that is behind a counter. i will stand at a counter for 15 minutes, not exaggerating. 15 minutes waiting for the employees to stop twiddling their thumbs even though there are only 2 other people in the store. i can make eye contact with the employees multiple times and they act like they have never seen you. i would never recommend this place to anybody. read more

I went in today looking for snow gloves for my son, I wandered around for several minutes before finding them and even though there were several employees working, none of them asked if I needed help. When I did find them, there were 3 employees (including the store manager) all working on the same rounder. A couple came in with their young daughter and asked if they had kids snow bibs.. to which the manager snidely replied " you're about 3 days too late ", after the couple left, the manager said "I'm glad we're sold out!", all while still ignoring me. Not one employee provided any type of customer service the whole time I was in the store, and the attitude was carried over to the register, where they looked annoyed also. I didn't get the managers name but he's a late 20 s, early 30's with red hair. He needs training in how to properly run a store. read more

I like to point of the cashier that serviced me, her name is Michelle, not only she provided false and misleading information upon questioning, but her attitude is by far the worst customer service that anyone can give. I also like to point out the manager in duty, his name is Jesus, not only did he not address any of my concerns, but he just flat out did not want to help. COUPON DOESMT GIVE YOU FULL $10 CREDIT. Took our coupon in and was told we had spend $50 to use coupon, as thr boits we were purcgasing dudnt qualify for discount. So we bought a few more items. When our purchase was completed we noticed that the "$10" credit is applied to each item a bit, including boots we were told didn't qualify. We also found when we added up all the discounts we only recieved $9.96 credit rather than the $10 as coupon states. Also found Limited selection and only slightly helpful. read more

I went in for camping gear and saw a grill that caught my eye and it was the only left and I was about to purchase it and the rude and disrespectful manager claimed it wasn't the correct price and wanted to sell it to me for a much higher price. Hello All. I was searching for a weight curl bar. First i went to Walmart and pleasent experience. Worker gave me an explination as to why they do not sell them anymore. I decided to try big 5 across the street. Walked in and workers looked at me but did not greet me. I walked over to the weights and did not see any curl bars. I walked over to cashier and asked her if they stocked any and she said ill get someone to assist you over there. Waited a few minutes and no one. Walked back over to cashier and she asked me if anyones helped me yet. At this point she was standing next to 2 employees so 3 total. I told her No ane she tapped one on the shoulder and asked one to help me. He said he was busy and could not. I stood there for about 5 more minutes and nothing. Cashier pretended like i was invisible now. I just walked out. Sad to see big franchises like this still giving us the same shitty service. We are the ones keeping you open. I have been looking for new goalie gloves and shin guards for my daughter for the past few months at some of the bigger sporting goods stores thinking they would have a better selection only to find that none of them have the smaller kids sizes in these two items. I stopped into Big 5 on a whim on the way to my daughters soccer practice last night and low and behold they had a great selection of gloves and shin guards - all in my daughters size. Score! I was in and out in less than 10 minutes and I was able to use a coupon too. Will definitely remember this place for the future. read more

I'm going to give this store 5 stars ONLY because of Gio. I was there last night and forgot to use my coupon. Honestly, the only reason I shopped there. At the end of the transaction I remembered I hadn't given it to the cashier and I asked if it could be voided and apply the coupon. Not an isolated request, I've seen it done at the same store. The cashier immediately started to get annoyed. So after spending almost $125, I decided I was going to return two items and rebuy them using the coupon. You could see the kid tense up. I am a firm believer in strong customer service. I gave it when I worked retail, medical field, or anywhere else that I worked. Gio came, tried to explain how to do it I just doing a simple post void But the kid was just completely checked out. Not only with Gio able to complete the transaction without having to return and rebuy the items, he gave my husband cashback for the amount of the coupon. And he did it all with a smile. I came here on a Sunday to buy a calf compressor sleeve for my husband. After six attempts (Rite Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart, 99 cent store, Dollar Store), my husband told me to go to a sporting good store. I was at Walmart across the street and luckily spotted Big 5. I walked in and the manager was stocking product at the counter. He quickly directed me to the Sports Medicine section where he paged an employee to meet me there. An employee was already there to greet and help me. He recommended a great calf compressor sleeve - priced well and I was in and out of the store in 5 minutes. Big 5, historically, has a great reputation for customer service. They have a lot of great products, varying from different price points. They had a great sale on running shoes - I have over 6 new pairs so I forced myself to walk away. I definitely recommend this location for the customer service and wide arrange of products. The soccer packages right before soccer season are the best around. Okay the parking can be very difficult as the lot is extremely small. Big 5 prices are are the most affordable around. This place is a pile o sh**. Everything is tagged wrong in the store. I had to go back to the shelf 2xs to grab a different item. Every Time i walked back up the item was rung up at 2x's the price. If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is awful. Sadly, we've had to visit twice in two weeks because my daughter needed softball gear quickly and they're close by. 99% of the trouble is the women who work here. They're basically worthless employees. The first time we went to check out I was the only person in line and had to interrupt a personal conversation about their weekend plans TWICE before they decided it was okay to ring me up, then the girl messed up not two but three times and the manager had to come over and refund me and correct the transaction! Tonight we ran in for a small item. There was a nice young man who actually helped us find it, but once again when we approached FOUR women at the front registers having personal conversations loudly, meanwhile I am still the only customer in line, I waited 2 minutes which felt like an eternity considering I was watching one woman lift her shirt and explain her c-section scar to another employee who began to run her finger across it to feel the scar it left. Thanks, I'm all for loving your body but there's a TIME and PLACE and at work at a cash register while customers wait is NOT the time. I said "hi! where can I pay for this?!" And a snotty girl said "here" and rang me up without another word to me while she spoke to the gaggle of women in her tiny little register booth. Came in looking for baseball pants.. sigh... like every other frazzled Mom on game day. They didn't appear to be any in the size I needed. Great help from sales person named Michelle who seemed determined to find me a pair even though I had pretty much given up. She even found a pair with a broken snap that should would give me a discount on if I wanted them. Above and beyond the call of duty... she was busy, but took the extra time to help without being asked to. Shout out to Michelle... did not find pants, but love that she tried! read more
