I am so glad I did. All the other stores I went to were full of male salesmen who were condescending because I was a woman buying my first gun. They kept trying to push tiny "purse" guns, and even pink guns. I wanted a Smith and Wesson revolver because it's a "dummy proof" gun, which is great for a novice. Ian at the Army Navy Store understood why I wanted this particular gun. He was patient, really listened to me, and answered all my questions. He was even willing to teach me about guns. He didn't have the gun in stock, but said that the following month he was going to Smith and Wesson to place his order for the year. He texted me while he was there!!! I was shocked he remembered me, let alone while he was in the middle of placing the order. Then a few weeks later, he texted me and said the gun came in! You can't beat that for customer service. Having family that are active in the military, they love this place. The store is like visiting the Military commissary, in my opinion. Apparently hard to find items, such as camping gear, hunting / fishing equipment, you name it and it's a high-quality item, then this is a place to be. So I'm here as a civilian, non-military non-fishing / hunting enthusiast, so I just find myself looking at their clothing lines. And unfortunately, they seem to be a little on the high-end price wise. No sales people gave salutations to us, or asked us if we need assistance, so I guess I could say "well it's not a high-pressure sales situation"! read more

I dropped into Orange Army Navy in search of a flight suit for a July 4th themed event. While I found one, at $200 it was well over my budget and they also didn't have my size in stock. That said, if you are in search of good quality camping gear - think KELTY sleeping bags and tarps - this might be the place for you. The store interior is huge and you can enter from either the main entrance on Glassell or from the parking area in the rear. From the front, men's is to the right, women's and shoes are left, and camp gear and military surplus are towards the back. I don't have much to say regarding service, as no one approached me during my visit or was overly salesy. If your military and need uniforms and uniform components, come to this store. Not only do they have plenty of undershirts, they have the standard belts with the buckles pre-installed, and have uniform trousers and blouses for half the normal price! Also, respect the hell out of these guys for selling guns and ammo in an upscale area where that kind of thing is usually unpopular, its stores like this that hold the line and keep the 2nd Amendment alive. read more

I grew up coming to this store. Every weekend for what felt like my whole childhood up to my mid teens. My father loved coming in, we would spend hours and every weekend made purchases. I would get backpacks, purses, and clothes. Yes, every single weekend. It saddens me that during the start of what is known to be a busy weekend, the OC street fair, I, a paying customer, was denied the use of a "public" restroom in their shop. The person in charge, possibly owner, said "this is how we do it, at least our store." He then followed by you can use the "porta potty." The Orange Army Navy surplus store on the Orange circle has been one of my regular monthly visits as well as a favorite of mine for over 30 years now. I used to visit the store ever since I was in High School and could drive over here!! It's just less than a week before Halloween '23 and I decided to roll through and see what is going on. The city of Orange was in the process of preparing for an evening event and had a few streets blocked off. I ended up coming in from Chapman Blvd and turned off on Schaffer by the Catholic school to drive in behind the store and park in the small lot in back away from the front of the store. Orange FD were there setting up their booths and Emergency Vehicles for the evening's festivities. I did happen to notice that the store was very well stocked for Fall with all the kinds of clothing and gear that you might want for the Winter. Solid selections on all the great brands, Dickies, Carhartt, Levi's, and others. Great selection of footwear from flip flops to service boots. They also are a great place to go and get your "emergency" stuff if you are interested in building up your personal kits. Tents, cooking gear, water storage, sleeping rolls, etc . The kinds of stuff that can make you comfortable in a shtf type scenario. They also have a nice selection of firearms, fishing gear, and knives. PLUS!! If you're a veteran or know someone that is, this store has the BEST selection of insignia and iconic military veteran patches and pins. Great gifts for the upcoming holidays season!! I love this place! For starters, it's located in the coolest window-shopping areas around! You could literally come to the Orange Circle alone, with friends, kids, or a significant other, purchase nothing and still have enjoyed yourselves. There is ample parking if you locate the many public lots around town. The Orange Army Navy is the perfect place to shop for trendy and winter clothing, armed service memorabilia, camping essentials, and tons more. My boyfriend actually scored some attractive flannels from Carhart and Billabong that were reasonably priced and took away the "I hate shopping" feel many men experience elsewhere. Massive selection, staff is very helpful, and prices were fair (better than the LA equivalent stores)

This is a really unique Army-Navy store in the sense that they sell a lot of merchandise outside of old military items. For example when you walk in, you are immediately directed to the left where it's all civilian clothing. There is small section for women with everything from Rip Curl or surfer brand dresses and t-shirts to brand new Levis's. Then it's basically the same story for the mens clothing section and you wrap around into some old military clothing which is a pretty small selection considering, then they have a gun department where you can make those types of purchases and talk with a professional. The next room over is all brand new camping gear and anything else an outdoor enthusiast could want. Prices are fair and it's better to shop local. read more

Asked the brown hair gal if they had Dickies in my daughters size ( she was standing next to me ) this Moran doesn't even turn around and just gives some smart a$$ awnser ... we spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out sizes and abbreviations with zero help from any other staff there ... if I wasn't under a time crunch I would have spent my money somewhere else . This is one of those classic Army Navy shops. It has all of the military style stuff plus all kinds of clothing, hats, shoes, boots, camping gear, a very good gun and weapon section, you name it. This is a large store. It is broken up into two primary rooms with the various sections in the main room very well organized and well defined. You can easily find what you're looking for. The only validity behind one star is that Eric is actually a great guy. Otherwise, this might be (quite literally) the worst customer service experience I've had in years. Not only was David condescending and unhelpful, but he was unprofessional from the moment I walked in the door -- instead of providing clarity, he'd ask me the same questions and for paperwork that I had already told him I wasn't familiar with, and had the gumption to ask me redundant questions like "What does this say?" as he points to something that we can both obviously read. I then tell him to just give me my documentation so that I can leave, and he continues to escalate the situation instead of just letting me go by prying for an argument. After I leave, I call and speak to Mike, who is shockingly just as rude, but then also defended David because he's been there "for forty years" (as if that has any real relevance). It then occurred to me that it is a family-owned business, and so of course they're going to conduct themselves this way when there is no higher accountability. I digress -- this is the epitome of unchecked, unprofessional behavior. I will go without before I ever go to them for business and I hope others do also, lest they have the same experience. *For context purposes, they will try stating that this is all because I didn't have the correct documentation -- I'd called multiple times, speaking with multiple employees (Anthony, namely) describing in detail what I would be able to provide and not provide, to which he assured me what I'd bring would be acceptable. If it's not, that's one thing; but, don't treat me like I'm some idiot in the process. read more

I like this place because everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable on what they do, specifically, Ian. He is always cheerful and attentive of what we need. Bought my gun here as well as ammo. Came here to take my firearms safety certification exam and assisted by one of the employees, Saxon who was very friendly and helpful. The test took no longer than 5 minutes and I was processed and ready to go. They also have a wide selection of military surplus items for a Greg price, a good selection of guns and knives, and even really good prices on camping gear. Way cool store in historic downtown Orange. Many surplus stores don't have access actual surplus items. If you are looking for that P coat, or canvas duffle, commando sweater, a canteen, pouches and belts this hast to be your stop. Plenty of new retail as well, especially jeans and outerwear. If you're into camping...this is definitely your one stop shop. From make shift port-a-potties, dehydrated meals, cast iron cookwear, ez-ups, life vests, etc...this place has it all. There's a nice selection of military and military type clothing as well. Great for a one of a kind Halloween outfit for the ladies who don't all want to show up in the same "sexy" lady bug. Yes, it is 100+ degrees in July and "ooh, that would be cute for Halloween" pops into my head. I've made returns here before so when I purchased a thermal yesterday and got home to try it on I realized I got the wrong package size. When I went back today to return it the short unhealthy employee was rude and tried telling me the state of California has a law that doesn't allow return items if the package is opened??? He called the t shirt underwear. It's a t shirt!! I wasn't gonna sit there and argue over a $20 item. I turned around and walked out. And threw their stupid thermal in their trash can. Pretty cool store which has a combination of surfwear such as Hurley, and on the other side, fatigues, ammo gear, camo backpacks, camping gear, patches, military stickers etc. Kind of bizarre, but at least one has access to some serious variety all in one place. The weather was pretty warm that day, and I could barely feel any AC, which caused me to rush through the experience. Definitely not good for sales. This is a great little army-navy surplus store - with a lot of used army/navy equipment, clothing, footwear, etc. and there is also a large section on camping supplies. Before you shrug off the idea of wearing "used" military clothing - one thing to realize is how much more durable military equipment is compared to "civilian-quality" goods. These are the same equipment, uniforms, gear that our troops bring into war - so the quality/threading/armoring is usually a lot stronger than what you can normally get in a "civilian" type of sporting goods/clothing store. The prices are great too - I found some great cargo shorts for a little over $10 - good quality, no tears,rips, etc (you can choose from a large selection while you're there). There is also a huge selection of camping/outdoor goods - from tents to mess kits to portable stoves - there's even a portable toilet for sale (in case building a trench in the wilderness isn't your thing). The staff here is friendly and will give you your space - I was greeted by a few different staff members and generally left alone - although when I needed some help, it was easy to find and the staff members were all very accommodating. Parking can be a bit tough, so I recommend coming early on a weekday morning to avoid the crowds - the store is located a few steps from the traffic circle in Downtown Orange. read more

I expected a "surplus" type deal with a focus on Army and Navy gear. They do have some items, but the store has regular clothing in it. The focus does not really seem, at least to me, to be on surplus. The name kind of threw me off. The store has a purpose, but not really what I had in mind. I would normally say it is AOK, except I was looking for a specific type of belt and I spent more time trying to get assistance than I did trying to find parking. I guess I will leave it at AOK for a store, but there are way better places for Army-Navy Surplus. read more
