Highly recommend! We rented one for a long camping trip weekend with friends. We had 2 couples and 2 dogs with us and all slept comfortably. Very convenient to off road with and the kitchen set up and fridge was great. I suggest bringing your own utensils & cook wear items as they provide you with minimal. It gets pretty hot in the cabin part so be sure to sleep with one window cracked! The top piece you don't get too cold either as long as you have extra blankets or good sleeping bags. read more

I rented a rack top tent off the Costa Mesa location. It was an ok experience. The actual tent looks nothing like in the pictures in the website and it wasn't in good condition either. I wish I had been told prior to driving there about the condition of the tent. At first sight, the tent is very beat up at best. The top part has to be held by tie downs in order to hold with the bottom part. The latches don't work at the front. The top also had a huge dent and finally, the tent had a hole as seen in picture. I was told by Adam the tent was fully cleaned but we found trash inside. Some floss, gum wrapped in paper and some chapstick. This is a side business from his automotive main business so there was a long wait for the install and removal of the tent. It definitely served its purpose but definitely not worth the price. read more

Loved the concept of the teardrop off-road camping trailer. Rented one through Off the Grid rentals with solar and electric ice chest/freezer. When we arrived 1st trailer pulled out elect system not functioning , the second one appeared to be able to be switched on. Packed it up and headed out- arrived and discovered solar elect system not charging, nor were we able to get fridge working. Was able to power my string lights with my SunJack solar pack. The stove only had 1 burner that lit. Overall, We loved the concept and will consider purchasing- but not renting again. I did receive a $48 refund for the fridge not working. read more

The trailer itself was nice. Sleeping was comfortable and the accessories made the camping experience better, but the overall experience was not great. Communication between Off the Grid and their agent (Rebel Off Road) was non-existent. I emailed OTG twice telling them I wanted to pick the trailer up as soon as they opened (9AM) on Monday morning. Neither of these messages got to Rebel Off Road and as I was standing at their counter Monday morning, they were leaving me a message asking when I wanted to pick the trailer up. So, obviously, the trailer was not ready. First trailer they brought over had an electrical issue, so they brought a second. That one was dirty, so they brought out a third one. Thankfully that one was OK, but it was now after 10 AM and we were still not on the road. We returned the trailer on a Thursday morning, and it is now Friday of the flowing week, and the deposit has still not been returned, even though I was sent an invoice saying that it was. It should not take over a week to return a security deposit! Hopefully this gets resolved quickly. A number of people were curious about the teardrop trailer, and wanted to check it out. A nice little trailer if you can deal with the lack of communication and the delays in getting your deposit back. read more

I gotta tell ya, I've camped 200+ nights and those were the easiest and best 2 nights camping ever! The trailer made all the difference, so easy to tow, and reduced my pack up and load out time by 70%+ since I didn't have to be so space conscience. Threw some comforters and nice pillows in there and slept like I was at home. I've got a big Mojave Road trip planned for Q1 '17, I think we'll probably rent every trailer you've got. Rented the trailer and fridge for 6 nights for some camping off Tioga Road in Yosemite. Great experience! Everything worked great and we were pleased with all the little features included. They even loaned me a ball hitch at no extra charge. I had some concerns initially regarding comfort, as I'm 6'5" and about 280, but I was actually able to fully stretch out and still lie comfortably next to my wife. The mattress is a bit thin but we padded it with some sleeping bags and it worked fine. Towing was a breeze, no issues at any speed while towing behind by 6cyl Jeep Grand Cherokee. And, the service guys are great, didn't even need to get out of my car on return. We can't wait to repeat! read more

I've rented a rooftop tent and a fridge numerous times from them from the beginning. I'm very glad that this company exists to fill a niche in this adventure lifestyle. The service from the staff at Rebel Off-Road (which is one of the pickup locations) was very helpful and deliver exceptional service. It's also very convenient just in case you need extra off-road gear for your excursion. Although once, I did receive one of the rooftop tents a little sandy (probably from a Pismo trip). It was really no big deal. Afterall, we are "outdoors", right? The ARB fridge could come with an instructional printout to explain more of the functions and preventing a dead battery (you have to set it to LOW if engine is not running). But you can also find this information on the internet just by searching on Google. Other than that, I'm really happy with this company. I definitely will come back again! read more

I had never thought about renting a trailer to camp in, ever. Then I saw these teardrop trailers and thought, wow, those are cool. But that's way more than I would ever need to camp. Or so I thought. And then I spent three days and two nights camping with one and that changed my views. First off, the online reservation and rental form was super easy. I was even able to watch videos on how to use everything in and on the trailer. All very helpful for a camp trailer novice like myself. Second, picking up the trailer from Sierra Expeditions in Mesa, AZ was super easy and took much less time than I expected. Wil at Sierra Expeditions gathered some quick details from me and then set about connecting the trailer to my vehicle. I've never connected anything to my vehicle as well as Wil connected the trailer and wiring to it. All wiring secured with zip ties where needed, security chains in place. Absolutely superbly done. I was truly impressed. Wil then explained some specific features of the trailer in more detail and then answered all my questions with expert knowledge of everything I asked about. Third, towing the trailer was incredibly easy. My vehicle isn't the most powerful but it towed the trailer with ease. Climbing the hills from Phoenix to Payson, it didn't feel like I was towing anything. My vehicle performed virtually the same. The big 35 inch tires and suspension of the trailer ate up all the bumps. When crossing a cattle guard I didn't even feel it when the trailer crossed. I was completely impressed how well and easy it was to tow the SoCal Krawler Teardrop. Wow. Fourth, as comfortable as my bed at home. Which says a lot. I love my bed at home. The comfort of the mattress surface and having brought my own bed linens (they provide a set if you do need them) and pillows, I slept just as well as I do at home in my own bed as I did in the trailer. Easily there is room for two adults. Exiting and entering the trailer is super easy as there are large locking doors with windows and screens on both sides that make getting in and out easy no matter which side you're on. Open the door, slide your feet out to your waiting flip flops on the fender. The door opens a full 180 degrees and will stay in place when opened all the way. With the roof top fan and sliding windows with screens I stayed perfectly comfortable throughout both nights. The second night I also stayed dry. While my buddies were floating around in their tents on their air mattresses, I was warm and dry with my phone charging in the USB port while listening to the built in stereo. Fifth, cooking is easy. While I didn't opt to get the portable refrigerator as I already have one in my vehicle, I found that the location of it was perfect. The ARB 45 quart refrigerator/freezer has held a week of perishable food for me without having to deal with ice or leaky coolers. If you don't have a portable refrigerator/freezer, opting for one is highly recommended, even if it's just to keep the beer cold. Make life easy! I did not use the stove, but I did connect it and test it to see how well it worked. Setup took about 90 seconds and with the propane tank on the side and extra fuel in the storage area under the mattress, you won't be running out of fuel anytime soon. I liked the higher than normal prep surface/counter. I made coffee via French press and Jetboil there each morning and made less of a mess than I usually do at home. Plenty of storage and they provide pots and pans, paper plates, plastic utensils, a cutting board and helpful cooking implements. With plenty of storage room to bring your own if you wish too. There is also a super bright LED at the back that lets you see everything you're preparing and cooking. I liked that the LED had two levels of brightness so when done cooking you can dim it down. Sixth, messy and wet items have a storage place of their own! A clever metal cage is placed at the front of the trailer that I used for firewood which allowed me to keep my vehicle and the trailer free of those annoying bugs and debris that always falls off the firewood. I also placed a gasoline jerry can inside so I didn't have to carry it in my vehicle or in the trailer. And when packing up to head home, it's the perfect spot to put the soaking wet camp chairs that were rained on overnight so they will dry out. But probably, the most important thing I can mention here is how much more relaxed I was all weekend. I didn't have to deal with any off the stress of having to unload the tent from the car, find a spot to set it up where there weren't any ant hills or cactus, didn't have to clear away any rocks, I just parked. My camp was setup! Done! And when it was time to go home, toss the chairs in the box and go! Drop off with Wil and done. So easy. So relaxing, so stress free! I would so rent again! We rented the ARB Fridge/Freezer from Off The Grid Rentals for our adventure on the Rubicon Trail, July 2016 The service was outstanding from online rental process, pickup and communication - thank you Nizar for all your help. It would have been nice to have a bit of instruction on the ARB, but we were pressed for time and forgot to get that before leaving the Rebel Off Road location in Laguna Hills, CA. Luckily, it was fairly easy to find on the web using our iPad. The ARB performed well and did not drain the battery on my jeep, which was a concern while camped in Rubicon Springs. We cooled it down with frozen foods and ice packs the night before our trip, then packed it with chilled beverages. We used it for keeping our beer cold, I think this would be best for keeping perishable food cold and dry, unsure if the temp gauge was accurate when it hit the 28` mark and our beer wasn't icy. Nonetheless, we were able to keep the beer drinkable, and without ice, during the entire trip. We look forward to using the service again, for the tear drop trailer! read more

Rented from 7/13-7/16. This trip was fraught with external complications, but the date had been picked 2 months in advance and it was going to happen one way or another. Now that it's over I can definitively say: The easiest part of the whole experience was this trailer. You can check availability online, book online, etc. It was ready when it was supposed to be; freshly cleaned and fully stocked. I called two days before my scheduled pickup with a problem and these guys went way above and beyond to help me out. I volunteered to cook all the meals for the trip (5 people) and the stove/fridge made it a breeze. The kitchen area is well designed and comes with most of the basics you'd need: pans, knives, cutting board, stick lighter, and so on. "Charlie" had a built in solar panel on slide-out tracks which gave me the confidence to run two fans all night (the trailer's exhaust fan and a secondary 12V oscillating fan), a necessary comfort when camping in the Mojave in July. The mattress was comfortable, the canopy was sturdy, the trailer towed beautifully, and the staff was exceptional. I will undoubtedly be a returning customer. If you are on the fence about trying one of these out... do it... hopefully not on a weekend that I need it. read more

We picked it up at the Laguna Hills location, where the guys at Rebel Off Road helped us get hooked up and ready to go to Anza-Borego. Both the service with Off the Grid Rentals and Rebel Off Road were excellent - quick response on questions asked, making sure the hitch was the correct height, ensuring the lights worked once we were hooked up. The trailer was as advertised - clean, rugged, all utensils/camp stove/water/solar panel/sheet were included. The unit was very responsive when towing on the road and off the road, as well as easy to level off once we got to the site. We loved renting this teardrop trailer! It was very easy to tow and handled very well off road. The inside was spacious enough for our 100+lb Rhodesian ridgeback, French bull dog and two adults. The sleeping mat was also very comfortable. The cooking area was so convenient and easy to use. You can also carry something like 20 gallons of water in a built in tank. It was a fabulous camping trip. The sleeping area is generous and comfortable. Plenty of storage cubbies. All very well made with thoughtful details and very clean! Just returned from 125 miles off road on the Mojave Road with trailer and ARB refrigerator. Very robust trailer, also caught the eye of passers by who commented positively. Comfy sleeping quarters. One VERY big disappointment that could have ruined our adventure. We ran out of propane while heating just our third meal on the stove. I had specifically asked Jake, who hitched up the trailer for us, if he was certain the provided tank was full. He promised me he had checked and it was. We had to then make do and rely upon others to borrow a burner to cook. Thank God we had that option. This was inexcusable and no way it should have expired during stove's 3rd usage! read more

We first saw an Off the Grid Rental trailer at the Off Road Expo in Pomona about six months ago and it got the gears turning. We've been exploring the Deserts of CA, AZ, and UT since we got our Jeep but all of the gear really fills it up, having a trailer to shift a lot of that load to would be ideal, as well as make camp setup and tear down so much quicker and easier. Shorty after the expo we started planning a run down El Camino del Diablo, a 140 mile cross country trip along the border in AZ, and as we planned it the idea of taking a trailer made a lot of sense so we booked an OTGR trailer for the trip. On the day of departure we picked up the trailer at Rebel Off-Road in Laguna Hills. Our Jeep already had a 7-pin setup so hooking up to the trailer was quick and easy. The 30g water tank was already full, the trailer freshly washed, batteries fully charged and the fridge already cold. We were in and out of ROR in 20 minutes and on our way after a quick instructional tour of the trailer and off to AZ we went. We spent three nights on the trail. Not fussing with a tent was awesome, especially the last night with high winds. The awning on the side of the trailer gave us shade during stops and the galley/kitchen was very easy to use and access. A full-size bed (clean bedding already in the trailer) is leaps and bounds better the our best sleeping bag. Dropping off the trailer after the trip was as easy as the pickup. We are already trying to plan the next trip and an OTGR trailer will be a part of it. We highly recommend both the company and the trailer. read more

We rented an OTGR 459 Crawler trailer for a Thanksgiving camping trip in the Mojave. This was our third OTGR rental this year and our second from the Laguna location. As has become customary, the trailer was waiting for pickup, loaded and ready to go. OTGR provides some basic cooking items, and sheets for the mattress as well as a full propane tank and 30 gallons of water. I was hooked up and out of Rebel Off-Road with the trailer in less than 25 minutes. The fridge kept our meats, eggs, and cheeses cool for the weekend and we had a great time. When I brought this trailer back, likely the oldest in the fleet (yet solid and well maintained) a brand new 459 Crawler was sitting in the lot, fresh from SoCal Teardrops. Nice to see the fleet growing, so there'll always be a trailer when I want one. Having rented from Nizar in both CA and AZ, I highly recommend doing business with Off the Grid Rentals.
