I used to go to another board shop in fountain valley before I found this place. It's down the street from me and they always do a great job with the hot wax. Service is great and friendly. I always ask too if they think I need a minor or major tune up and they seem honest. I don't feel like I'm being upsold. Good price and usually ready next day! Also I tell all my friends to come here to rent gear. read more

Came in for my first time looking for shoes. They had a meeting in the middle of the store and had me sitting there waiting for a long time and did not give me service. Totally unprofessional! read more

Had a fantastic fitting by Nathan, who was 100% down to earth and real. A refreshing and welcome contrast from my experience at OC Snowsports just minutes prior. Thank you for my new boots and bindings! Great value, but the authentic service was the best part. read more

We just rented some gear for the weekend and it was such a breeze! Austin was very helpful and patient with all our questions :) best place to rent for sure! read more

We've been coming here for over 10 years for ski and gear rentals. My most recent experience with Austin for demo skis was excellent. Got some great advice for a ski that fits my style and an accommodating return schedule based on our trip timeline. I've been recommending Phil's to friends and I will continue to do so. I'll keep coming back! read more

Great shop! I tried on several different ski boots and his main concern was making sure I was getting the right boots. We happened to be a similar size foot and he let me try on his personal new boots to help get a better idea on what worked for me. If you're going down the AI path for fitting boots, stop wasting your time and go ask for Parker at Phil's. Thanks Parker. read more

We thought local, top-level boot fitters were a thing of the past when Newport Ski Company closed decades ago. However, we found Phil's provides mountain resort boot-fitting--but in OC! Our college-age daughter needed boots and was offered several models after answering many questions about her ability and preferred terrain as well as having her foot size and arch checked. We were impressed they had such a wide selection available. While they offer custom footbeds, we opted for a pair of Sidas insoles (highly recommend!) to increase her comfort and edge control. I appreciate the willingness of our very knowledgeable salesman, Aaron, in answering all our questions during our time there. We never experienced any attitude or pressure. So far, she has seven full days in the boots (5 in Mammoth, 2 in Tahoe) skiing blue-black and black runs and never thinks about the boots, ever! That's a wonderful boot fit!! We highly recommend Phil's for properly fit ski boots! read more

If you're in SoCal and within range of this shop it is easily one of the best snow/ski spots in OC. If you're looking for new gear: boards boots helmets skis goggles, anything they have a great selection; its 2 small shops and the walls are stacked better than most big sports stores! The other door handles rentals, etc. and I rec. calling for specific brands or SO's, or for lead times on waxing/edge repair. 2017: When I needed a new board, the salesman asked thoughtful Q's and he listened to my A's and experiences with other boards. They set me up with the Niche Aether board and Arbor Cypress bindings; I got the board waxed for cold temp wax prior to my Montana trip and it was a rocket, best board feel on powder. And I always visit Phil's for warm temp waxes for Big Bear, Mt High, etc. Renting Equipment? In peak CA snow season I recommend you don't show up on a Thurs looking to outfit yourself or others with ski/board/boot rentals for Fri/Sat morning. It gets very busy here with lines; but I'll say even as a smaller shop they get my board waxed and prepped better and quicker than the nearby competitors at good prices. I try to come in at least a week or two before my lift ticket date, and they've always been accommodating, Phil and the crew are all true enthusiasts who love to shred and provide good service read more

Wow, I came away extremely impressed with the service and knowledge from Aaron today. He helped me with my ski boots, and I know Phil's will be my go to place for everything in the future due to his help and professionalism. I came in thinking I needed to have my boots heat formed, but Aaron took the time to go through an extensive ski boot protocol that was thorough and so fruitful in helping boost my confidence that my skiing experience will be awesome with this season with my great fitting ski boots. Thank you so much Aaron, your help is much appreciated and you're an excellent asset to Phils Snowboarding and Ski read more

Aaron and Parker are the guys. I bring my snowboard here a couple times each season to get it serviced, and they always get it dialed in perfectly. From fresh wax to full tune-ups, they treat my setup like it's their own. If you ride, this is where you need to be. Solid crew, solid work. read more

Phil's Ski & Snowboard - Gnu getting ready for some wax - Ski & Snowboard Shops Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I would give 10 stars if I could. 110 percent worth the trek down from Los Angeles this past weekend for the warm and knowledgable service Aaron and Nathan provided alone, but I can go on. The new buildout is top notch (I had to remark on it, and was told they just updated everything - it looks great!), from Rentals to Retail, and their selection of new gear from only the best brands is a sight to behold. Truly. I came down for a wax and tune to get my skis dialed in for the upcoming season, yet what truly blew me away was the STELLAR assistance that Aaron and Nathan provided. They spent over 2 HOURS patiently helping me dial in a boot fit on my current boots. That's right, Phil's has a CERTIFIED BOOT FITTER in Aaron - I had no idea, but when they mentioned it, I ran and grabbed my boots quicker than a New York minute. I was blown away to learn this, as most shops do not have professionals of this caliber on the team. The most I had experienced before was a simple heat-to-mold liner oven (I'll skip it, thanks); Phil's has the real deal boot fitter on site, ready to ACTUALLY FIT SKI BOOTS the right way with punches, presses, grinders, and more - not to mention the years of training, certification, and experience to match. What's more, Aaron and Nathan went out of their way to pull down a dozen new boots of varying shell constructions and flex patterns to try on - yet they didn't try to sell me on anything. They just said over and over, "we just want people to be happy with their gear, whether they buy it from us or not, and understand what else is out there and what might be right for you." I can't tell you how refreshing this was, as at every other shop I've been to, they don't really seem to care about getting you into gear you need (let alone so gleefully take the time to show you what's new and exciting out there), and are only ever concerned with selling you something. Suffice it to say, though, I will be going back when my boots give up the ghost. After spending an unexpected 2+ hours helping me out with a boot fit, answering my questions, and letting me try on a host of new boots, they have a customer for life, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. Phil's Ski and Snowboard has my full support. I have been to my fair share of shops across the West and Mountain West, and Phil's is truly the best, hands down, let alone a godsend for skiers and snowboarders in the area - Phil's just can't be beat in the greater Southern California region, and probably the country at large! read more

I've been renting here for years, it's always a great experience. Helpful, friendly service

We came this morning to reserve board boots and the staff were wonderful, attentive and knowledgeable. We are season regulars and each visit has been great and no issues. When trying on boots - they take the time to measure and try on the boots. You don't get this attention when you get to the ski resort rental. Time is valuable when you get to the mountaintop. Waiting in line for rentals is the least of my favorite. read more

I know nothing of anything related to skiing or snowboarding. I do know great customer service...and this place has it. My kid rented a snowboard. First time for her. Went to Big Bear and called us midway through the day to say the board was stolen. Told her that sucks and not to freak out, not her fault. Called Phil's the next day, they were beyond cool about it. Charged us what they had to, but could have really stuck it to us...and they didn't. Manager Parker even said to follow up if somehow the board was found. Cool. Guess what? Board was found. Apparently this happens a lot...someone grabbed the wrong board. They got home, tried to turn in the wrong rental to their rental place, called Big Bear, who then followed up with us. Even cooler...Parker happened to be up there later that week...and brought it back...no need to drive up there...and at no extra cost to us!!! Great customer care, great attitude, really cool manager in Parker. Highly recommended...though I'm a golfer.‍ read more

Our little guy just turned 4 and we decided this is the year we teach him to ski. So close friends of ours recommend Phil's for a ski lease. I had never heard of this before but what a deal! For a very reasonable price we were able to get little boots and skis that we will keep all season. Like we don't return them until June! Everyone that helped us here were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They even told us about the edgie wedgy which is a little tool that attaches to the front of a newbie's skis to make the pizza/french fry transition fairly controllable. Phil's also took care of attaching our bindings and getting our skis waxed. The intake process was super easy and we were able to pick them up within a couple days. I would highly recommend Phil's and we will be back for all of our skiing needs! read more

I cannot rave enough about my experience here. From the moment I stepped in, the customer experience was welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. I was educated on boot fit and type, best options, and had a great rental experience. They have a great policy where they know people like to pick up the day before and can drop them back off the day after. There was no crazy deposit or hold fee and they were exceptionally kind during drop off. I will be back and highly recommend them. I was taking my son to a 4 day snowboarding trip at Mammoth so we went to this place to rent his equipment. They sized him up and recommended a board and boots. My first time coming to Phil's for snowboard boots and I completely enjoyed it. I was here before the season was over and I decided to buy a new pair of snowboard boots. I needed them pretty quickly since I was leaving up to Big Bear for the weekend. The customer service as really friendly and nice. They gave plenty of advice and overall I loved the style of boots that I purchased from them! The store is small but filled with plenty of items for snowboarding and skiing. If you don't want to commit to buying they also do rentals here. Got my board waxed and ready to go also! It was honestly one of my quickest purchases I've made and am still happy about. Can't wait for the next season to roll around and yes I'll be ready. read more

Kudos to Cory. The man knows his stuff... we went in without any expectations and ended up getting totally outfitted from boots to everything. I appreciate the knowledge all the staff appeared to possess. The place was bustling with customers, each who needed extensive assistance, but the guys handled everyone/the masses like a pro. Quick turnaround, friendly atmosphere, and tons of inventory. Phil's is the only place in Orange County that I know of or care to know of to handle all my skii's or board waxing or for retals! Their staff has always been super helpful and knowledgable about all their equipment as well as addressing the style of rider you are to make it a perfect fit for the gear your going to rent! Their prices are definitely reasonable for rentals and have always been hassle free for everything! Phil's is definitely the place to go in OC if your looking to fix or wax your snow gear too as they do an awesome job and don't try to take advantage of you like some other shops try to! We will be back here again at one point to rent some gear the next time we have some friends who are ski or boardless and want something to ride down the slopes with! Also don't forget to check in and collect your $5 off coupon that's redeemable for some services they offer! See you on the slopes! read more
