I went to Epic BMX yesterday because I needed help with a bike crank arm. I only needed one crank arm replaced, but before really looking it over, I was told the pedal was stripped, then that the crank arm was stripped as well. The shop tried to sell me both crank arms, then said the chain would not fit the new arms, so I would also need a new chain and another part. I was told the size was traditional, which made me question why so many extra parts were suddenly needed. When I asked if we could just replace the one broken arm, he kept saying the arms "wouldn't match." I had to keep asking for clarification before it became clear that he meant they would not match visually, not that they would not fit or function together. I was not worried about how it looked -- I just needed the bike to work. Then I was told the other arm was bent and that everything should be replaced. The quote was $120 just for the crank arms. After checking online, traditional-size crank arms were around $20. I understand shops need to mark up parts and charge for labor, but this felt excessive and like I was being sold parts I did not actually need. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back. This could have been a chance to earn a long-term customer, but the experience left me feeling taken advantage of. read more

Epic Bike Shop should rename itself Epic Online Presence, because the friendly, welcoming vibe they advertise in videos does not exist inside the shop. As a new customer, I made the mistake of walking in expecting basic courtesy. Instead, I was met with a snobby, dismissive attitude that clearly starts at the top. The Asian owner sets the tone, and that tone is: if you're not already an expert, you're an inconvenience. The disconnect between their marketing and reality is impressive. Their videos go out of their way to look inclusive and helpful, while real-life interactions feel condescending and rude. Even asking for something as basic as a receipt felt like I was committing a personal offense. If you already know everything about bikes and just need to grab something and leave, you might be fine. But if you're new, curious, or expecting normal customer service, don't believe the videos. The attitude is real, and it's not friendly, a total fake. Great bikes. Great videos. Terrible vibe. In my 50s. Went there to get a bike to ride around with my kids. 99% sure I wanted a 20" BMX like when I was younger. WOW too small. They let me try two 24" BMX which was better, then I tried a 26" BMX. WOW the sweet spot, just like I remembered it. The bike was full Chrome too! So the lesson learned is try the bike in person! Just like shoes, it needs to feel right. I tried 6 bikes and found the one. Also helped that the folks at this shop have many years of experience to fit you. Phu and his team are the absolute best! The fact that it's a family business is icing on the cake. His daughter was patient with us as we asked tons of questions regarding the right bike for our 4 year old. Phu worked with our son to help get him comfortable using his new bike as a balance bike first (he took the pedals off). About a month later we came back to get the pedals put back on. Phu spent the time to guide my son on how to get the bike moving and get his feet on the pedals. Within 30 minutes my son was riding a two wheeler on his own. Stopped in for the first time today... guys out front helping customers were friendly on my way in. Get up to the counter and guy working had crappy attitude and didn't seem to want to help once he knew I was only looking for small part for my bike. They didn't have exactly what I needed so no biggie thanked the guy and asked if I could trouble him to put some air in my tire I had brought in. Instead of turning around to grab the free air hose behind him he slowly walks to the back and comes back with a manual pump. To the owner didn't catch the employees name but dude is a TOOL I'm sure you know who he is and good workers are hard to find but u would honestly be better off without this employee. Just a huge shoutout to the best BMX shop in California. I came in here with a broken spoke and a sheared nipple fully expecting to leave the wheel for at least a week to get fixed. Ethan immediately hooked it up, fixed the wheel within 10 min and even gave me some anodized blue valve caps because he thought they would look cool on my bike. I went in today indecisive between a dirt jumper or a BMX style bike. Ethan and Jesus were so helpful with helping me make a decision. They were kind, patient, and answered all my questions.
