We have stopped by this place whenever we come down to fish off the pier . Staff has always been so friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to what you might need depending on your experience. Ketcham is always stocked with everything you need from pier fishing to big game offshore. Vast selection of tackle, rods, reels (that most shops don't even stock), bait, lures, you name it. Super friendly staff as well, they'll always answer questions or help you with a jam or an issue. you'll never catch these guys on a Sunday night at 8:30 in the evening open, unless it's after a long busy day after the fishing show. I didn't expect them to help me, but they did. I went in with my problematic fishing rod that was broken. Ended up buying a new one from them, they set me up and took time out of their evening to help me get a new Shimano SLX in real. I am very thankful for them for doing that. the problem I had was my fault, I didn't realize, but I got the wrong side real and needed a left-handed bait caster. Fast-forward a few weeks later, they got me switched out today with the reel I needed. These guys went above and beyond with their customer service, I highly recommend all anglers in Orange County to support I also just learned that they are authorized repair shopfor Phoenix rods. This tackle shop claims to repair reels, dropped off a reel last month off season for tune up and repair. Was given three weeks wait time. Called back after a full month . Only to find out my reel was still stetting there never been touched . He sends out the reels . And only gave stupid excuses why it wasn't done. I will never go back for anything! read more

As I was looking at some reasonable priced hooks, I heard the someone asking about Lobster traps and the man at the counter gave some good pointers to the couple. Once we started with the person there, older man heavier set, he was a bit pushy with my cousin I had to remind my cousin not to feel pressure to buy and to get something he really wants and Likes from there on the man just started with one thing after another we left and bought nothing he stated won't find a cheaper price even tho I went to my usual spot found same reel for $40 cheaper and they spool me up with braided line free as well all about the customer service I would STAY AWAY!! from this place unless you absolutely have no choice. This is the best tackle spot around. I'm pretty sure it's ran by a father and son. They are super friendly and helpful. Also, EVERYTHING is fair priced and they do not try to UP-SELL you on things you do not need. They will simply get you fishing ready on a budget. So glad I finally stopped by Ketcham Tackle. I moved to the area about five years ago after spending a lot of my life in Northern California and fishing for trout, salmon moving up rivers, and other freshwater species. I haven't had much luck with artificial lures here until yesterday when the guys at Ketcham walked me through the tackle I need for trolling, casting, and jigging. I caught and subsequently lost my first big fish yesterday after their help. Thanks so much guys! Now I need to invest in much bigger rods and reels. I will be looking to Ketcham for that advice. I found the shop full of great tackle, lots of top brands with reels that are hard to find. I told them I needed help and they were friendly, fun, and really know the local area. I was in the area and saw the Ketcham Tackle. I have been So Cal fishing since the mid 80's . initially with Yo's Tackle in Gardena.. no more.. and most recently with Performance Tackle in Los Alamitos. Nice to have a Tackle shop in the area that I live instead of traveling 20 miles+. Sometimes when one goes fishing and last minute needs arise, one goes to tackle shop at the fishing boat landing. Fishermans landing tackle shop in point loma is great. At Ketcham, met the owner, Jason. although, I was the only guy in the store when I walked in , there was no hard pressure to sell and he was nice enough to have a conversation with me. Hi Jason, You don't know who I am but I've been coming and taking up your time asking a bunch of questions every time and maybe out of every 3 visits I end up buying a pack of $4 hooks. If I had to add up all the minutes you've spent with me, it would be easily about 5-6 hours and perusing through all your cool neat inventory from fishing gear to repair gear to lobster stuff and general seafarer stuff. I know you were working and doing other things while answering so many of my questions but I am new at fishing as a whole but you've made it very easy for me to feel more confident going out to catch fish. I had no idea this is such an amazing sport. Since i'm recovering from substance abuse no more, fishing has been very therapeutic and a healing. However, I met some characters in fishing before and the "saltiness" is true to its name - I almost gave up on doing fishing because of the ugly characters. But with you, you are always so patient and knowledgeable and you didn't dismiss or make fun of my ignorance in this sport - rather you are very kind but still have the necessary saltiness that is more grit than distasteful. I now understand why this can be a great way to spend time instead of doing bad things I would now rather go fishing. I'm telling everyone I know who is suffering from any issues like drugs or depression to take up fishing. Thank you so much for all you do besides helping with fishing, you have really helped healed the community in orange county. Oh and I watch you make sure all the kids in the neighborhood that come in are taken cared of and that is cool. I caught my first kelp fish but it wasn't big so I had to let it go but I am encouraged still to keep fishing and fishing. Ketcham is a special place. The small shop is very well stocked. The owner and all of the staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They always want to have a conversation and make sure your next trip is successful. The customer service is top notch. Other tackle shops in the area like Angler's Center seem to be impersonal, and they employees seem to only care if you're buying expensive gear for an offshore marlin trip. Ketcham cares about ALL anglers, including kids fishing the bay, newcomers fishing on a party boat for the first time, and highly experienced offshore fisherman. One particularly positive experience I had was dropping off a reel to be serviced. They told me it would take five days to a week, which is a pretty short turnaround time. Well, later that afternoon, they called me and had the reel all done. They cleaned and serviced my reel, and got it back to me IN ONE DAY. I was new and didn't know anything about fishing and I told them so the first time I came in and I wasn't treated with a condescending attitude like many fishing shops seem to be if you don't know every term in the book. They went above and beyond to walk me around the store and set me up with what I need and told me the setup and rigs I needed for what I was after. I Even have been here looking to buy something that was expensive that I thought I needed and was pointed to something only 20$ that they said would be way better, and sure enough worked just as fine.
