I like this location, but not the parking lot. It's next to an auto parts store so it's always crammed with people working on their car or just flat out poorly parked taking up multiple spots. With that said, once inside, they do a great job of stocking as much as possible given that this is a slightly smaller Big 5 location than others. I always make a point of coming to this location first because chances are checkout lines will be shorter and then if they don't have what I'm looking for I go up the street to the Granada Hills location. Staff here is also very friendly. They tend to only be at the register and aren't wandering around the store a ton, but I've also never really needed help finding things as the store is very well laid out and intuitive. Prices are fine. Nothing amazing, but they're better priced than other big box sporting good store chains so, once again, this is always our first stop for gear for our 3 growing kids & their youth sports gear. If you give them your email you'll get a weekly email with some good deals that often are catered to whatever sport season is about to start as well which I greatly appreciate. If not, chances are you'll get a coupon in the mail for 20% off or $5 off a purchase of $20 or more. So always keep an eye out for one of those if you know you are going to need to buy anything. read more

The staff here was so quick to help me out!!! I walked in and I was in a hurry so I asked them a question on if they had something I needed and where to find it. I was quickly directed to go towards the right corner with the glass counter. She walkied to get assistance from another staff, and the next lady showed up and immediately knew which type of the product I needed was best for my needs!! She was super friendly and helpful and also answered the questions we asked. I really appreciate her showing how to use it too. The prices over here at Big 5 and their products are always well worth it in my opinion. I really appreciate the lady behind the counter and the cashier Beth for also assisting me!! This shop had me go in and out quickly with the product I needed!! I reccommend this spot for when you're in a pinch for any supplies!! read more

I stopped by this Big 5 store today because I was waiting for my friends to join me grab lunch at a restrauant across the street. Since I came early, I figure I would walk around Big 5 until they arrived. I found parking easily because I came in the morning and this store is in a big plaza. This Big 5 store is spacious inside and has many different products to choose from. I looked at their workout machines and weights, shoes, fishing rods, basketball stuff and etc. the employee here are also nice because one of the lady working came to me and asked if I needed any help. read more

I had a horrible experience with the manager at this location on Reseda named Ted. I purchased a stop watch, got home and realized it was taped up as it was used, scratched up and didn't work. Took it in to exchange it and was making a complaint to him in the store and he kept cutting me off as I was speaking and rushing me. Then I exchanged for another one, get hone and it doesn't even work. I called the store to speak to him and again kept cutting me off mid sentence trying to get me off the phone. I said as a manager this is very unprofessional and he then proceeded to give me attitude and say he doesn't care. Then I said I will be calling corporate and writing a review about his behavior on Yelp and his treatment of me as a customer and he said he doesn't care what I do as it's his last day anyway and it really doesn't matter to him. Then he got sarcastic and said do what you need to do and hung up the phone on me! This is unbelievable that a manager of a store would treat a customer like this! Not acceptable and so unprofessional. Will never be shopping at Big 5 again! read more

Large with a pretty great selection of winter clothing and equipment at very affordable prices. They also have not so cheap options if you want something "more". Though the line to pay was long at the time of our visit, the cashiers moved us out very quickly. read more

Went in for a return the service was horrible miss Gabriela needs to find a job that suits her nasty attitude, shouldn't be rolling your eyes at customers just because you had to do a return transaction. Two questions were asked you get two answers back. You didn't like either or so you rolled your eyes.Asher on the other hand was a great helpful employee who you can tell right away, likes his job. He was very helpful throughout my purchase and greeted me with a smile. Thank you for that, sir. excellent customer service from Asher. read more

I just left the store right now and encountered the rudest costumer service from "JOSE" the manager must be a joke . Idk how he thinks it's okay to talk down to the employees. I shop a lot at big 5. But ....Big 5 needs to adjust their stated closing times! Just rushed around to one on van nuys Blvd that Yelp says is still open. Closed already! Called the one in Northridge that too is closed before the times noted on Yelp page! Neither manager/cashier that I spoke to seemed bothered, in the slightest, that this might be an issue for potential shoppers! Sad : ( read more

I come several times here looking for my NFL stuff and yes they had some items, however I already had those items in the pictures I took. This store has been here a long time and it shows. The carpet is real dirty, they really need to change it. This store is in the heart of CSUN, I really would think that corporate would do this, make this there signature store. Maybe they don't want to invest any money back into the location The store carries all the amenities from outdoors to camping, working out shoes baseball, basketball and a big selection of shotguns. I was surprised that they don't carry any NFL jerseys, nor any hats from any NFL team. As for the employees, there just going though the emotions, like when do I go home. Back in the days this used to be the place to go tor all your needs. Now there's to much competition, with other bigger chains. read more

I'm a big fan of big 5 in general and this location specifically they always seem to have a very good selection of shoes and you can always find very good quality shoes at very competitive prices This is where I most recently purchased some steel toe boots which are very durable yet comfortable and also very protective of your toes! read more

The most amazing and concise customer service I've come upon lately. These fantastic young individuals assisted me from phone to physical. When I called them, they were incredibly concise and efficient with helping me find the product that I needed and tell me how many of them they had at what price. When I got to the store, they not only lead me to the area, but also showed me other types of product and we literally started considering a whole new sport because of them. The energy and customer service was mind blowing as I haven't seen this in a very long time. Don't listen to the haters come here if you need sporting-goods because this team will make you so happy you did. read more

This location deserves a 5 star. Every time I go, I get great customer service. Jose was great help. He was patient and didn't rush me. And thanks to the cashiers at the front of the store, they always are very nice. read more

This store is really convenient to our family, we have shopped here before and prior to them moving from previous location. We've been helped by a younger Hispanic young lady who is very helpful and friendly. Today we were helped by a young lady named Melanie and let me just say she has the worst customer service and attitude I've ever experienced at a big 5 store. Melanie obviously hates her job. Maybe she should not be allowed to interact with customers, maybe she should do something else such as stocking. I literally just spent almost $700 and received the worse customer service from her. I'm sorry to say Melanie is affecting your business. I hope someone talks to her about her attitude. read more

I bought a jacket for $50 at another store.. 8 days later there was an online coupon for $20 off.. I called ahead and explained the situation.. They said to come in and would give me the difference. Drove there which was not too close but way closer from the original location I bought it from.. The manager came out gave me some BS about I had to do it under 7 days. Horrible experience here! The older guy with the glasses is who made my experience so unpleasant. He is very rude. If he is having a bad day he should NOT let it out on the customers. The old man at the bb gun stand has a complex just like most gun owners with no education, hence working at Big 5 at 60. I ask a very basic question about a gun. I ask which is your best overall rifle you have in stock. Without looking at me, once, looking at the floor with his arms behind his back, answers me, "well, sir, I don't know what you're looking for, so i couldnt answer that for you.". I asked if the bb/pellet combos take away from the power or range compared to a specialty gun for only bbs, for example."Well,.sir, I'm not sure what it is you're trying to ask me." I asked the same question 3 different ways. I noticed he wasn't in the best mood, granted, I was there at 8. They closed at 830. I get it, so I told him I'd be back after doing a bit more research. And I was as respectful as you can be to a drill seargent or your team leader..he replied, yea, cause you sound confused. I told him I knew what I wanted. I want one of each. Pellet handgun and a bb handgun, as well as a pellet tactical rifle with an individual rifle which shoots only bbs. Its not rocket science. I already bought the hanguns. Oh, and i asked him if the glock 17 was supposed to be so loud, or if i was maybe loading the cartridge incorrectly. He made it seem like I was stupid for asking such a dumb question. He even looked down and laughed when i asked my buddy what a break barrel was as far as how many rounds it can shoot with one break., but he didnt have the cahones to look at me directly in my eyes. Ends up, I was just puncturing the cartridge incorrectly. He said, "sir it's not supposed to be loud at all. "Well, what if I was....", shakes his head before I'm done asking. He says, "It shouldnt do that". Doesn't explain why or what i may be doing incorrectly. ""Well, can it be im...," Again, shakes his head, so i just stopped trying to confide in him. The asian guy the day before was GREAT! Sold me the glock 17 and the baretta blowbacks in 5 minutes, Answered all my questions thoroughly and during closing as well. So, turns out i was just puncturing the cartridge incorrectly. I wasnt lining the thread up correctly with the bottom of the handle so I'd get a surge of air at the first couple shots and the rest would leak, hence the loud pop it made like it was a real 22 the first shot. This was my favorite part, though. He told me, "well, sir, the combos slow the shot down significantly, so i don't understand why it would be as loud as you claim. (paraphrasing) ." So, why couldn't you say that when I asked if the combos interfere with the potential of the power for either or, in the beginning of our conversation? And then he got the rifle I asked to see and got the facts wrong after my buddy asked him questions he already knew the answers to just to show me how little he really knew. It loads 12, not 10. "NO IT LOADS.....OH YEAH...I GUESS ITS 12, NOW!" The more I learn, the less I know, ive learned in life. Thinking you have knowledge on something you don't is the very nature of being dumb. Its being oblivious to something you think you know, but don't. Right? Which is why I've learned more about life, staying humble, and asking questions. Its gotten me off of heroin for 7 years and into medical school. Thats how you know whether someone has dealt with adversity in their lives. Someone whos been through the ringer would treat others with respect. Not like theyre less than. Never needed a gun growiing up. I guess some pf you rely on then instead of good old fashion training. People like that need to hit a bad bottom to learn anything new. You guys need a new manager or whoever runs the miserable section. read more

I stood in line for 45 minutes at this store . There was 8 people ahead of me . When The doors open and everybody rushed in. A family of three went ant sprawled out on 4 boxes of weight lifting benches and bought them all . It was clearly bogus and RUDE . There was signs limiting amount of weight plates you could purchase. I mentioned it to the manager Jose, Who was rude and complacent and said no there's no limit. I personally think it was a friend of the family. I will never shop at this big five again. Not a review about the store but about "Jose". He might be the rudest individual I ever encountered. He should be fired immediately for harassing me the customer for 0 reason. I went in to acquire about a test for a firearm, I let him know that I called another location and they said I can walk in and take the test with no appointment so I went. As I arrived Jose was already being rude with another customer inquiring about the same thing. He proceeds to tell me I can't take the test and need an appointment. I asked do you guys have different rules for different stores? He asked me what store I called, and then said yea they're different. Me being frustrated not at Jose but the wrong information I received I walked away and shook my head as I was leaving. As I was leaving jose then asks me why am I shaking my head and proceed to HARASS me and PROVOKE ME. He then keeps asking me why did I shake my head and I told him he had 0 right to ask me and he didn't need to know. I did not shake my head at him or on his face but has I was walking. He then starts a scene then tries to tell me it was my fault. He then proceeds to say he's "tough" everyday because he was in the marines. If he was he is making marines look terrible as I was not disrespectful towards him at all until he was to me. Something needs to be done as I now know that he treats all "young" customers this way. He's a bad representation of the store and pleaSe STAY AWAY from him. read more

Good luck getting help here. There aren't many associates on the floor, and they won't seem to offer help unless asked. The store is organized a bit like how my room looked when I was a kid: stuff sectioned off in their own unrelated areas, some things crammed too closely together, and the look of having been organized at one point but now slightly messy as items have gotten taken off shelves and put back. After a good several minutes, I finally found what I came for: hiking poles. The ones with cork handles were pricey, and I don't trust cork to be durable (at least not the ones from Big 5), so I passed on those. There were some poles discounted to $15 that looked promising and were height-adjustable, but none of them seemed to work properly! One wouldn't lock, one could lock/unlock but not open, and two could neither unlock nor open. I'm PRETTY sure I was correctly following the instructions printed on the poles, as they weren't complicated. How hard should it be to find stuff in a store that actually, you know, works? I didn't need anything else, and having seen such a shoddy product, frankly I wasn't interested in seeing anything else. read more

There were two clerks working checkout. I was waiting in line, holding my toddler in one arm and a 4 foot hardshell kiddie pool in the other. One clerk, I believe the manager, turns around, looks me in the eye, and places the "closed" sign in front of his register. His colleague at the other register asks him to help her customer find some particular item. He starts walking away and then turns around and says to the customer "you gonna follow me or what?" The customer, an elderly woman with a bandaged hand and an eye patch, asked him to just get the item for her. No can do. So the poor woman had to go shuffling off after him. This is not a happy environment. read more

Apparently Brown skinned paying customers can't use their restroom like other Big 5 stores I shop at have allowed me to use it when I need to use it. This particular Big 5 has lost me as a long time customer and I'll never set foot in this specific store to spend my hard earned money ever again bcoz according to their superficial manager illogical excuse for "no Public restroom" available although I told him "I'm not the public, I'm a paying customer" was "this facility isn't built this way." Hasta la Vista baby, I'll just spend my money were facilties are built to let me use their restroom for being a paying customer. I try to support local businesses but if this is how paying customers are disregarded, disrespected and unvalued then I'll resort to online shopping on Amazon so I no longer have to waste my personal time, bus fare or fuel costs to travel various Big 5 locations, this is Big 5s undoing read more

I went to BIG 5 today to do an even exchange on some youth hiking boots. Unfortunately, they did not have my son size. However, I must say that I felt very welcome in this establishment by Briana. As soon as I walked in she welcome us, she answered all my questions, and we even had a small conversation that had nothing to do with the establishment nor the item I end up returning. Not very big for a sporting goods store, which of course means less selection. I only needed a bag for equipment, and they certainly had enough to choose from (and decent sales; my bag was originally $50, but I paid $25). Their safety gear selection for skating lacked; I only saw helmets in kids' sizes, and the same with pads (unless there were adult ones elsewhere?). The pads looked cheap and came in packs with knee/elbow/wrist, so you were stuck with all of 'em even if you only wanted one, or your knees are a M and your wrists are S. Really, it's a Big 5, not a specialty store; it's not REI or a skate shop or whatever. You can't expect it to have top-of-the-line anything. You go there for basic sporting needs. They have that. read more

This review is for 04/22/2011. Well, Happy Good Friday. I didn't realize most companies I do business with are closed. With work being at half operations, I was excused to leave early and do some shopping with some hard earned cash. Plus, I have been walking/running around my work trying to lose some more weight. Time to get some new shoes at Big 5 Sporting Goods. I was at Baja Fresh last week across the street and mistakenly thought it was located on the same lot with Big 5 and Ross Stores. I made a mistake again by walking into Ross on the left side instead of going to the Big 5. Ryan has not been thinking straight lately. The parking can get pretty packed, so I recommend parking towards Nordhoff. Unlike most Big 5 Stores, this one was not quite big. The shape of the store is more longer and narrow than wide and rectangular. However, the location of the shoes is always at the back of the store. I haven't bought regular running shoes in awhile since I love my Service Boots. I've worn my 3-4 boots since 2002. I, also, keep reserve NEW Shoes just in case....lol...Yes, I love my boots. I wasn't sure what kind of shoes to get. New Balance, Adidas, or some crap shoes. Like I mentioned earlier, time to spend some hard earned $$$$. I saw these nice Nike Air Alvord 8 Shoes ($49.99). I have no idea what that means. There were two shoe employees helping out; one guy and one lady. The lady knew I was about to ask before I got the display shoe. Size 13 Please. Yes...Size 13....lol As I was about to try the shoes on, I felt a shiver in my back and I turned around and that one guy was staring at me...O...K...A...Y... Let me try these shoes on. These shoes fit perfectly. Off to checkout line. When I got to the checkout line, the lady at the register was about to literally kill the cash register. It was so SLOW. She warned me wait before I slide my credit card. She scanned my box and it took forever to register. Finally, my total came up. My total is $54.86. Big 5 is where I buy my shoes. I always trust they have something for me. I am not going to spend hundreds for Air Jordan or whatever cost $300.. I just need to walk from Point A to B. I am not David Beckham with million dollar insurance on my legs/feet. Store experience was average except that feeling of that guy watching me put my shoes on....lol. The Yelp Universe.
