I'm leaving a bad review regarding this location because the poor interaction I had with one of the employees during check out. On July 28th, I had went to this location with my sister because we noticed they were having a sell we wanted to get in on. Everything was fine till we got to the front of the counter. I got a feeling the cashier was being standoffish, through her curt interaction with my sis and the failure to provide any acknowledgment to me till ringing up my items. Yet, I didn't pay too much attention to that since I was simply there to buy what I wanted and leave.
Once she was done ringing up my items the total came up to about $20.7. I gave her a $20 bill with the exact change, which she took and placed into a cash reader behind the desk with her. Pretty much immediately thereafter, she gave me back the money and said she couldn't accept it. Shocked I asked her straight up if the money was read as fake. Initially, she seemed hesitant to give a direct response, but soon afterwards she confirmed that to be the case. Now, this money I didn't receive from just anybody. I got it actually not even a full week prior from a reputable check cashing spot. Given their own standards of operating and everything as I said, I was shocked and stumped as to how I could possibly be in possession of any fake money.
Nevertheless, hearing that isn't what actually bothered me. What bothered me was her dismissal of the situation and lack of assistance thereafter. She didn't offer to double check the bill, or even inquire if I wanted to continue the transaction through another method of payment. She just gave the money back like that was the end and be all of the interaction. Which I find to be absurd cause for me that pretty much implies one of two things.
( if not both)
1. She believed I wasn't going to continue the interaction because I didn't have any other options of payment.
2. She believed I was merely trying to "get one over them", and now I didn't want to push forward with the transaction because I couldn't do that.
( Honestly, I'm still debating the results of the reading, since I myself never seen it.)
Whatever the case with regard to what she believed, my sister took it upon herself to pay since she still had her own wallet and card out from their previous interaction. Promising to settle things with her (my sister) we left and lamented more on the situation that had occurred. Given the fact that there was a bank right across the parking lot, and I needed to pay her back, we went there to see if the money could be deposited. Big surprise, it went through with no problem. Given that we were still upset about the interaction, and the money pretty much was confirmed to be legit. We got the bank receipt, and decided to head back to the store.
The issue at this point in our minds ( in addition to the poor customer service ) was that their reader was faulty, or we were straight up lied to and discriminated against. For what reason, I'm not sure. My sister seemed to believe the negative interaction with this girl was racially motivated. Normally, I'm not one to assume such pettiness of others, but as I said the situation as is really didn't make no sense. ( For a bit more disclosure, we're both biracial being Hispanic and Black)
Anyhow, continuing with the encounter... when we pulled up to the front of the store, through the glass we could immediately see the cashier go into the employees room in the back.
This I suppose was the cherry on top to the whole incident because she acted as if she knew there was going to be some big confrontation. Despite the fact that we were cordial the entire time we were first there. That response quite frankly to me just seemed like a personal admission of wrongdoing. If my explanation of the situation hasn't been clear enough thus far, we didn't come back to grill the girl. We came looking for clarification, if she knew she had done nothing wrong I don't see why she'd feel the need to disappear from the scene.
Personally, if I thought there was gonna be a complaint made against me, I would want to stick around to hear what is being said. If not to provide proper clarification to a customer at least my manager or supervisor. But nope, she didn't do that, either way that was fine. Since the person we wanted to speak with really was the manager. Giving the entire spiel of what happened when we first came in, she too was very dismissive. The sum of her response was merely a denial of there being anything wrong with their machine, and a denial for there to have been any discrimination or wrongdoing in general on their part.
Unsatisfied with this interaction, we requested to speak to her superior. She left briefly thereafter to bring to us this Hispanic woman at the front of the desk. Now, this would actually be a one star view if it wasn't for the more emphatic/understanding interaction that we had with her. read more
