They have a variety of bagels that are house made and drool-inducing. But my favorite part was the Lox deluxe. The chicken salad was a winner, too. The interior was pretty deli standard with a walk-up counter and food case displaying their spread of traditional deli foods. They even gave a delicious-looking Reuben and a different soup of the day. Nothing fancy or frilly here. Just your standard booths, table and chairs, and an impressive accent wall with the Biderman's logo proudly displayed. I have been going to Biderman's for a year, always looking forward to their everything bagels that were loaded with seasoning on the top and bottom. Today I ordered an everything bagel only to be presented with what looked like a plain bagel with a very small sprinkling of a few sesame seeds and a poppy seed. I thought they had made a mistake on my order but was told that they have changed their bagel supplier. While the bagel itself was good, it wasn't an everything bagel. Biderman's was a great find! I wouldn't consider it a full on Jewish deli simply because they don't have table service or a lot of staple dishes you'd expect at a Jewish deli but I think it's probably as close as you're getting in Austin, TX. The bagels were awesome! Nice and chewy! Not too big and slightly blistered skin. They were out of onion (I know, it's a Shonda) so I opted for the "Avocado" on a salt bagel. It had chive cream cheese and sliced avocado. My boyfriend went with the "Lox Deluxe" on an everything bagel. It was all great. Next time we'll be back for the corned beef and pastrami. I was SO EXCITED. I love sandwiches with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I have a dickens of a time trying to find a suitable replacement for Publix here in Texas. This is not Publix. It is a smaller establishment but still plenty of parking. Plenty of people working there so the tables were very clean and ordering was prompt and friendly. Very personable staff. The issue and why it is three stars? I ordered the roast beef with au jus because any sort of sauce/gravy you can dip food into makes my southern heart go pitter-patter. It was a hearty sandwich so I didn't get any sides. I eat half, awesome. No complaints. The second half is way more full of roasted beefy goodness and cheesy happiness so even fricking better. Then it happens. I am 7/8 of the way through my sandwich because my mama didn't raise no quitter and boom. A hair. A shorter black hair. Maybe two inches long? "But Danielle, could it have possibly been your own hair?" I am glad you asked, fellow Yelpers. No. I was born a blonde and I stay blonde with the extensive help of my friend bleach so there is literally no way in the world that that was my hair. Did I raise a ruckus? Notify management? Fall to the ground clutching my pearls? No. I put the sandwich down and decided I was full. I will go back, that club is calling my name and my mama did raise a fool, and I will probably enjoy it but I will very closely examine the sandwich before I eat it. My first visit to Biderman's Deli on Far West Blvd about 3 blocks off MOPAC. Lots of open parking. Deli was very clean and the staff super friendly. The young woman at the counter gave me a couple of suggestions that she likes. I went with the Corned Beef Scramble on a toasted garlic bagel ($6) and regular coffee. The coffee was fresh, hot, and served in a real ceramic coffee cup (shocking in this world of throwaway cups). NICE! Bagel was perfectly toasted with a bit of a crunch on the surface and chewy in the middle. The corned beef was excellent especially after I added some Deli mustard. Egg was fluffy. GET THE CHOPPED LIVER. End of review. * * * Footnotes 1. Biderman's is a very very new deli. New as in not entirely ready for prime time and still getting a lot of their basic package up and running. They probably do not have as much staff as they intend to have. They do not have as many menu items as they intend to serve. They are not open as many hours as they intend to open. They are still getting the bugs out of this and the bugs out of that. That said - all signs are extremely promising. 2. It may be a Jewish deli with Jewish dishes - but they are not blatt kosher. They serve stuff for goyim as well. They have ham. They put cheese on many of their sandwiches. What they don't make themselves often comes from Boar's Head. Boar's Head is for Jewish deli what Jose Ole Frozen Taquitos are for Mexican Food. 3. The start up nature of the project and only half of their real menu being up and operational means that some of the good stuff is up - and the menu is filled with not-so-great not-so-Jewish bombs waiting for their ultimate replacement. So ask about what you are getting and order with care. However, if you hit one of their own homemade dishes, you are more likely to win big. 4. The Chopped Liver is better than any delicatessen chopped liver you will get in New York, Boston, Chicago or Los Angeles - all havens of excellent delicatessen. It is even better than my father's homemade chopped liver - and that chopped liver was held in justly high regard. It has a wonderful and seductive flavor. I am guessing that this comes from all of a) using superior chicken livers. (Some commercial livers off of factory chickens are not worth eating) b) generous use of schmalz and gribenes, which not everybody puts in. There are no substitutes for any of that and lots of East Coast and West Coast delis don't bother to add those extra cost extra bother ingredients. This particular liver is helped by huge amounts of hard boiled egg. Hard boiled egg is traditional but optional - and is at its best with a well made flavor filled chopped liver by both breaking up the texture and giving something to contrast with the liver. The cook adds a lot of egg and this is as things should be. Non-Jews: Where do you find Chopped Liver on a deli menu? Chopped liver generally appears as a side dish - although in reality it is solid as any main dish you could ask for. Even though it is not on the menu, nearly every deli with chopped liver will make you a chopped liver sandwich. They will also put chopped liver on a pastrami sandwich, a corned beef sandwich or a corned beef AND pastrami sandwich. You have not lived until you have had a chopped liver and corned beef sandwich. Just saying. Biderman's serves the liver on a plate with lettuce and little grilled toasts. These are nice and I ate some of mine. But frankly, I just stuck my knife in the chopped liver, pulled up a slab and ate the liver off the knife. It was marvelous. 5. They do not make their own pastrami, because pastrami is hard to make (and other meat smokeries in Austin DO make their own pastrami). They are not going into the pastrami business any time soon. I would avoid the Pastrami which is Boar's Head. 6) They DO make their own Corned Beef. It is moist, make that super-moist, generously fatty and wonderfully textured. That makes it better than any other Corned Beef you can get in a restaurant in Austin. (Central Market used to have fantastic corned beef and pastrami that they made themselves. One day - that ended. I would have cried myself to sleep for weeks - but they shifted their cookpower into making amazing homemade turkey (in multiple versions), and homemade roast beef, pork and lamb. These are arguably the best deli meat in Austin. They are not Jewish deli meat - but they are pretty damn fine.) Biderman's Corned Beef is a little milder than I prefer. There are Corned Beefs out of town I like better. But if I am in Austin, I will eat Biderman's corned beef happily. 7) They have good honest pickles. Not a true Jewish sour garlic dill - but a good honest pickle. Pickle is the perfect accompaniment for chopped liver. They also have a full line of Dr. Browns, including the Cel-Ray. 8) There are lots of other Jewish dishes to counterbalance the necessary-for-now space fillers on the menu. How good are the black and whites, the kugel or the latkes? Only one way to find out. But after you have ordered your legendary top of the class you-would-be-out-of-your-mind-not-to-get-it chopped liver you may not have a lot of room for kugel or a black and white anyway. read more

As someone who was born and raised in NYC, deli is something I always took for granted. Until I moved to Upstate NY and realized that great deli is NOT that easy to find. I was thrilled to hear about this place and recently stopped in to try a corned beef sandwich on rye. The very nice and helpful young lady at the counter assured me they made both the meat and bread in-house, which was quite surprising. Unfortunately I made the mistake of ordering 2 sandwiches for 2 people. I'm not a huge eater and neither was my companion. So we have more than half a sandwich, each, to eat later. The corned beef was a drop on the fatty side, but very tender and tasty. The thick rye bread was great too. Crispy crust and nice taste too. The pickle was excellent as well. Although I haven't tried anything else there, the attitude of the staff (the young man who brought our sandwiches out, was quite proud of them and interested in my feedback), the cleanliness and overall vibe of the place ensures that I will definitely be back again. If the food wasn't good, Biderman's would be gone a long time ago. We walked in at 11ish on a Tuesday. The owners (I think) were rearranging the booths, pointing at chairs, whispering. Not greeting customers at all. Usually at good restaurants when the owners are there, they're greeting customers, bussing tables, helping the staff, asking how the food was. This couple (a man and woman) were setup at the back booth with their laptops and papers looking all important and ish... Here's an idea, come in before the deli opens and do your work then. Biderman's has been relaunched as a new generation from NeWorld Cafe with the focus of transitioning into a Jewish and New York style deli. This is a very welcome and needed addition to the neighborhood. We walked in and were a bit surprised at the prices and concluded that the product better be worth the value. Our food was delivered and we can easily say, Biderman's delivered. The sandwiches were loaded to the brim and bread was melt in your mouth fresh. The intersection of price and product quality curve came in as advertised. The sides looked fabulous and the menu is interesting and broad. Biderman's will see us again and soon. Biderman's acknowledges that the transition is still in progress. That would make it even better. The only negative today was the wait to order. We stood in line for some time while the young lady at the countered took orders over the phone. She was very nice and apologetic about the wait and we heard later that they had a large call in order that made them get behind. I really wanted to like this place - but sadly didn't at all. We came in around 11am and they were out of most bagels (which was kind of expected) ended up getting egg everything with cream cheese and boyfriend got egg everything with lox tomato and onion. His was decent but 100% not worth $13. Mine was dense, doughy and super bland. The "everything" seasoning didn't have any salt pepper or garlic taste - you occasionally got a bit of coriander. There was barely any seasoning on the top and none on the bottom so unless you ate the bagel as a sandwich the bottom half literally had nothing on it and was hard. I ended up not eating half of mine because it wasn't worth the calories. Service was ok - everyone was really nice but they were incredibly slow. It took at least 15 minutes for our bagels to come out. If you ordered a sandwich those seemed to fly out of the kitchen but a bagel and cream cheese took forever. Definitely overpriced but honestly not good even if it was half the cost I still wouldn't go back. I have to imagine this can't be the same experience everyone else has had since this place has great reviews but oh well. read more

What an awesome new place for some a bite (and what a perfect bite)!! I had the French Dip - it came out popping hot! the au jus was rich and flavorful, bread was fluffy, the cheese was the perfect melty, and the beef was full of beef-ness :D it's was hard to describe, but biting down on this glorious creation felt luxurious. The service was delightful as well. The cashier was patient and informative and the server who delivered our sandwiches from the kitchen was super helpful. Sorry I didn't get y'all' names you guys are awesome and made us feel welcomed and take cares of. Ps. my friend's veggie sandwich (pesto) smelled amazing, she loved it, and what's more you can tell the love and attention to food - even the tomato slices are all perfectly cored for maximum flavor/texture. You pay a normal price for a sandwich and get a lot of love in the food in return... The portion size was very generous as well. The kitchen said nobody leaves hungry from there and I believe her. As a Jewish guy from the northeast, I have considerable quantities of kosher-stytle deli in both my DNA and my arteries. So I was pleased to discover that the stuff not only exists in Austin but that it's not half bad either. My corned beef sandwich was done right. The meat was excellent: flavorful, moist (but not, uh, sweaty), with a nice hint of seasoning. You expect good beef in Texas, and Biderman's doesn't disappoint. The portion was ample, enough to satisfy the hungriest fresser. The mustard was tasty and the pickle had a nice snap. The rye bread was a little dry, but don't go to a deli for great bread. That said, I haven't tried a Biderman's bagel, so no shade in that direction. My only complaint is that the selection of meats and non-deli goodies is a little thin. I would love to see chopped liver and whitefish salad on the menu. Maybe this stuff isn't easy to source in Texas, or maybe it just doesn't appeal to the locals. I'll say this though: add a nice smoked sable to the deli case, toss in a couple knishes, and Biderman's could make it in New York, Boston, Baltimore, even South Florida--God's waiting room for old Jews. read more

Very pleased with this this mom and pop deli that screams yum from every nook and cranny. You can tell the locals love it as well because they were out of a lot of their most popular items, and the place was definitely hopping even during a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I am sadly disappointed in the $26 I spent for a single meal. Half Sandwich + Soup +$2 upcharge for corned beef +$1 upcharge for matzah ball soup Soda Potato Latkas 15% tip Warm wet corn beef on not toasted bread with mustard resulted in my sandwich falling apart. I don't know why it wasn't toasted?! Ruined it. Especially since my sandwich came last to the table Soup was completely bland. It looked NOTHING like the photos I have seen in the reviews. Clear liquid with 0 seasoning and 0 salt. The broth must have been a vegetable broth because there wasn't any flavor let alone chicken. The matzah ball was the oddest thing. I think they are putting chicken bouillon into the ball to compensate for the lack of chicken flavor. The latkas are the oddest thing. Instead of being a crunchy fried mini pancake of happiness, they make 2 massive cakes. The denseness of the cake makes them more like potato casserole. Again no salt, onions, seasoning etc. So these massive cakes came with a tiny cup of apple sauce and sour cream. 1 potato latka could have been made into 5-6 and it would have had better texture. So the reoccurring theme of no salt and seasoning must be common because the salt shaker on the table was empty. So $26 dollars was wasted. 1 star for the food and a star for the nice staff who kept the place clean. read more

Best Jewish Deli in Austin! I'm a sucker for New York style bagels and this place does it right. Came in on a Saturday morning with an adult kickball tournament happening at the sports complex across the street, we expected to wait a while for our order, but 5 bagels came out in under 10 mins!! I can't believe I wasted 9 months living in Austin before trying Biderman's. SERIOUSLY. I had saved Biderman's in one of my collections on Yelp long ago but it wasn't until a recent slow Saturday that I finally stopped by and now it's my go to for a great, fresh lunch. The turkey and Swiss on rye or sourdough with the perfect pickle on the side is my favorite. The cheesecake is best described as life altering. And the aesthetics are bright, clean, and hip i.e. subway tile and modern branding. The staff are always friendly and seem to enjoy being there.
