I crossed the city to join a friend for a birthday celebration here. It was worth every bit of my 1.5 hour travel time. the upper east side is not "ritzy" especially east of Lexington Avenue. there are a ton of good bars and cheap apartments. it gets a bad past vibe, but the upper east side is the place to be. and bars like Biddy's prove this theory. filled with writers and artists, we genuinely like that stereotype so we can keep this neighborhood all to ourselves. Biddy's is a great dive, where, no joke, everybody knows your name. it is small and stinky, but this hidden white harlem (we dont like to call it UES) gem is just what the drunkard doctor ordered. but keep in mind, Biddy's is dangerous... good, cheap booze, outlaw friends, girls, visions, and everything. you might need a little brown friend called Shy Shy or maybe a marine to walk to home. I have only been here once, and already I love it. Blue Point Toasted Lager on tap and only $5! Corey the bartender is super friendly and is always up for conversation. He introduced us to some other people sitting at the bar, which led to some interesting drunken games of Connect 4 with a lovely Irish woman. Best of all, at 11:30 pm on a Monday night, Corey poured Patron shots for the 8 of us who were still there! I can't say that it was my intention to get drunk on a Monday night, but I had a great time doing it. This place is 2 blocks from my friend's apartment, and we are adopting it as our own. Echoing the views of many people so far in that Biddy's is the perfect example of a neighborhood pub. My wife and I discovered the place one Friday while searching for a new Irish pub to eat at. We were initially disappointed that they didn't serve food and were planning to leave after one beer but then fate stepped in. The heavens opened up and one of the worst thunder storms in the history of creation occurred. Needless to say we weren't going anywhere. And I'm so very glad we didn't. Corey promptly introduced himself to us and we just hung out and talked for hours. It felt just like being in someone's home. A few people ducked in during the course of the storm, all regulars and all very friendly. One of them upon learning it was our first time at Biddy's proceeded to actually BUY our next round and wouldn't take no for an answer and at the time he was completely sober! That's just the kind of place Biddy's is. Everyone knows each other but it's not in any way snobby. You're welcomed into the family with open arms. Our next visit was a couple of weeks later and I was expecting to be completely forgotten but Corey spotted me through the crowd at the bar and greeted me by name with a handshake. When was the last time that happened to you on your second visit to a bar in this city? This place is a must try for UES citizens and don't forget to have the Biddy's Ale! read more

This is a very small pub right in between 2nd and 1st more towards the 2nd side. The bartenders are very friendly. I was there on a friday night and it had a decent crowd for the size of the place. It didn't have a big beer selection and I was hoping for more of a Irish style beers. They do have a real dart board which is a big plus and they have darts for you to play with. I was staying on E90th St on a recent trip to NY and found this place around the corner which turned out to be a hidden gem. The place is TINY. But that is one of it's many charms. The other is the clientele. Every person I met in the bar were friendly and lots of fun. The barman Luke (Irish lad) was very friendly also and you could have a laugh with him sitting at the bar. On my second visit he already felt comfortable enough to shout "No English in here tonight please!". Which shows what sort of place it is, local, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and non pretentious. Which is exactly what I was after. They have some nice local beers on tap and there is also a Dart Board and a great Jukebox. Recommended if you are in the area and want to have a drink and meet some very nice locals. read more

I went here with a friend to check out the trivia and just hang out. I am terrible at trivia and I don't pretend to be good but since it was free to play I figured it could be fun. This trivia is HARD or perhaps I really am just that bad at trivia. One of the rounds asks you to answer two separate questions that when you put the answers together it makes a phase itself. Like, who "discovered" America and where do the Buckeyes play and the answer would be Christopher Columbus, Ohio. It was so tough and we got no more than 3/10 right per round (there were 4 rounds). It was kinda torturous and I have no idea how some of these teams knew the answers. The beers weren't expensive ($6 each?) and although the place is small it wasn't too crowded that it was uncomfortable. I wouldn't go back for trivia since I learned my lesson but this seems like a good neighborhood bar to go for a drink with a friend after work. read more

This place is an oasis in the UES. The crowd is small and mellow. The bartenders are friendly and remember you. I cannot comment much about the beer selection because we drink whiskey, and they have a solid selection (including Powers). Considering most places in the UES are overdone, attitude-infested sports bars filled with frat boys, yuppie scum, and ridiculous hipsters (what the hell are you doing up here?), Biddy's stands out as a relaxed place to enjoy a drink with friends. read more
