On a day trip to Ventura Oxnard our first off is going to be for breakfast. We found BJ's Café easily. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a beautiful day in Oxnard, so we sat outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the two eggs and hashbrowns with toast over easy. Service is friendly, the food was good, and with it being a nice day sitting outside was perfect. If you're looking for breakfast in Oxnard, give this place a try.

A hidden gem! In the heart of old town/downtown Oxnard, parking is a little challenging on the street but there might be more in back? This is an incredible breakfast spot! But their menu is huge! And not just breakfast! My husband stumbled upon BG's a few weeks ago and just loved it! So... with great pride he took me here for breakfast and it was so good! The service was great, we were offered drinks right away (sadly they were out of orange juice) and after our drinks were brought out we sat for quite a while before anyone came to take our order. My husband had to actually make a point to say "we're ready". Honestly throughout our meal our server was very friendly and attentive. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 wasn't because of that but rather what they charged us for our 12 oz iced teas at $4 each. Way overpriced! BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse only charges $2.79. I also think $6 for a side of 2 fried eggs is a bit over the top. Just saying... I absolutely plan to come back and definitely recommend giving them a try!

In Oxnard, CA driving up HWY 1 on a road trip. Stopped at BG's cafe for breakfadt and so glad we did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is warm and friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is fast friendly and professional. The food is fresh hot and tasty. I got the chorizo hash and eggs. It came with beans and choice of toast, English muffin ,biscuit, or tortillas. They also have award winning salsas. The verde salsa was my favorite. The French toast is made with thick French toast bread (not the thin stuff) It says it's dipped in orange vanilla batter but I didn't taste orange or vanilla. It came with bacon or sausage and 2 eggs. We chose sausage links which were plump and juicy. Overall a very nice experience.

My husband and I love this place and have been going there for breakfast for years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has the old diner kind of feelings and the staff has remained the same for year too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is consistently delicious. The owner, Jose, takes pride in helping the staff and also welcoming his customers, so we feel like family going there. Angie, our waitress, has our breakfast ordered memorized, and even now that we moved away and only go there when we are in town, still remembers. I always have the egg white veggie omelette, with sautéed spinach, onions, mushrooms and fresh jalapeños, perfectly seasoned. Inhaven't found a better omelette since we moved. We highly recommend going in and try it for yourselves.

I can't believe that in all the time I've been coming to Oxnard for work, I've never stopped by BG's cafe. This is your quintessential local's diner. Classic breakfast and lunch offerings among other things. However they cater to the locals, lots of mexican breakfast options, and you can choose tortilla as side instead of your typical toast options. Today was a breakfast kind of day. Bacon, eggs and coffee. Not pictured was a side of salsa they brought me that really kicked the whole meal up a notch. For a Monday this place was packed, but I didn't wait long for a table. The service is great, everyone was very attentive and food came out hot and fast. ! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is cozy. The walls decorated with old photos of the city and surrounding areas, random knick knacks sit on shelves as if you're in someone's grandma's house.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One thing that made me exceptionally happy is that there is lots of booth seating. Even the tables in the middle of the room have booth seats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Classic and no fuss. This place has definitely made it to my list for go to diners next time I'm in this area.

We didn't want a big breakfast due to an event we would be attending. I love oatmeal and so that's what I ordered. It was creamy and delicious! The locals seem to love this place and I can see why. Staff is friendly and helpful. One of the must try if you're ever in downtown Oxnard. This restaurant has been around so long, you can see cool historical artifacts and photos here. Food is always flavorful, never need to add much to your plate. They have a variety in the menu and look for their specials as it's not on the menu. Service is friendly. There's plenty parking in the back if you have trouble finding a slot in the front.

I've come to BGs and had delicious food before but this last time was lackluster. I hate giving bad reviews but this is just for the dish and not the restaurant itself. Waitress was nice and attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cafe was bustling for a Sunday morning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just this pozole was no bueno. The broth was very thick. My mom complained that her chile verde was not servers HOT, just warm. Hoping next time will be better!

Despite the rainy weather, this spot was worth the drive. Started the visit with nice warm tasty coffee & hot chocolate. The server was friendly and attentive. Our plates took a little time and the coffee was refilled while we waited. The french toast touched with orange and vanilla was delightful. The ham steak & eggs was good. The biscuit & gravy was delicious with butter or gravy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall great small family style restaurant with traditional menu, warm atmosphere, and friendly service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Check it out!

This place doesn't disappoint me every chance I come here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has that typical Mom n Pop local cafe settings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I come here for omelets, biscuits and gravy. Their price has gotten higher but what hasn't. Today, I had Chorizo omelet with country fried potatoes, biscuit and a side of gravy. I also had a decaffeinated coffee. The whole meal including the tax is $25.00. Their portion is big so I can only eat almost half of the servings. Their food tasted like they are home cooked. The biscuit is bready which I like and the gravy is not overpowering. They make their own chorizo. Presentation is good. Until my next visit but this place is highly recommended.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a cute little gem in downtown Oxnard![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everyone was so friendly and I loved the homey feel of the restaurant. There was a good variety of kids' options, which is a plus as my toddler is especially picky, but he loved everything he ate. Shout out to their country Benedict - heavy but beyond delicious.

B G's is our number one choice for breakfast or lunch. The staff is super friendly and the food is great. My personal favorite is the BG's Famous Burger. I've had burgers from Alaska to D.C. and I've never found one better. One half pound hand formed beef patty with caramelized onion and avocado. Add some shoestring French fries and enjoy. read more

First time there. Great service! I was surprised it was a little busy for a Wednesday morning but it appeared that many of these customers were regulars. I had the corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns with a buttermilk biscuit. Hash came out amazing, hash browns were crispy without being burnt. The biscuit was soft and buttery! The side of butter was sweat but not overwhelming. Such a good deal for 9 bucks.. I've paid over 11 dollars at other restaurants and been much more disappointed. Can't wait to return and to try the country fried steak :) read more

If you've spent more than 10 minutes in Oxnard you'll see that that the Latin culture is vibrant in this city. I've eaten Mexican food probably 3 times this week, love it. However, when you're about to get on a 9 hour train ride you want something that will be decent as your days go on. BG's provided me with a place to get food that was freshly prepared but would go the distance on my travel that day. Not sure how often I'll be taking that train, but I'd visit again if I were there. read more

Went there for Sunday, the last day of International Restaurant Week. The special was 2 for $20. I had the Florentine; Spinach & Cheese omelet which came with coffee, potatoes and toast, biscuit, tortillas, and one Blueberry Ricotta Pancake. OR Choice of one per person (Includes Fries Or Fruit). What a generous breakfast! My date LOVED his Pork Chop & eggs. Coffee, bread, fresh Blueberry ricotta pancake included. The employees made us feel like we were VIP. We'll be back! read more

First time. Very old school dinner,been there 40 years, and could tell by clientele everybody knows everybody. Got Country Eggs Benedict,good but Holandese sauce was way too thick. Coffee refills where on time. Plenty of space to sit as well. read more

Amazing coffee; I drink about 4 cups...my favorite dish is the downtowners steak omelette...my girlfriend and I share that and they split it onto 2 plates and it comes with toast or biscuit and gravy so we do a biscuit and an short stack of pancakes for me...great atmosphere and servers are very friendly. If you've never been, you NEED to go it's that great! read more

I like the food here. What I don't like to see is three out of four servers hanging out at the end of the counter pretending to roll silverware while gossiping and having social hour. All this while the fourth server is busting her butt to wait on every table and run her own food. I don't know her name but she definitely is older than the others and thanks to her your customers received good service this morning. The other three are wasting your money. Honestly. read more

Finally got to try this place! I've gone a few times on. Sunday but it's way too busy. Once was told over 45mind wait yikes! But today was very quick we were sat immediately. The food was delish got chilaquilles their sauces is different than other places chiles tasted roasted very yummy! We also had a cinnamon roll HUGE shared it between 4 people! services is good to! This is the place to go when in Downtown Oxnard! I went to the movies then went to BG's Cafe for lunch! The sandwiches were very, very tasty! The Bleu Cheese salad dressing is homemade and delicious! The coffee was good, the service was good and the food was cooked fast perfectly. If in Oxnard stop here for the breakfast and support the local community. This place RULES. The food is delicious and very very fresh! All the traditional favorites are here, omelets, pancakes, scrambled eggs, but they also have a very nice Mexican breakfast menu. The prices are very reasonable, the restaurant is sparkling clean (even the restroom), and the service is friendly and efficient. Don't miss this wonderful local place! Maybe one thing they could add, a vegan scramble (potatoes and veg, as they have the most lovely veg!), but otherwise, super! read more

This was my first visit to this hole-in-the-wall. We were seated immediately at 9am on a Saturday morning, and our bill totaled $40 for breakfast and coffee for three adults. The portions were large and the waitstaff was very attentive. The restaurant was at capacity by the time we left, with customers seated in the waiting area up front. I didn't examine the restrooms on this trip. Menu selections included classic American and Latin American breakfast plates, along with sandwiches and hamburgers. I'd visit this restaurant again and recommend it to friends. read more

The worst customer service ever!!!!! The ladies are the worst they are so rude!!! Specially the older ones... I went to order food to go I was waiting and waiting for one of the waitress to take my order and another person was behind me the employee helped the guy first I told her I wanted to order food to go and that I was there first she got all mad and then she tells oh another person is going to take your order!!!!! They are so rude they need better employees!!!!! read more

What a disappointment. I had been craving a club sandwich and thought I would give BG's a try. Firstly, the service was extremely SLOW. I brought 2 co-workers and ordered the chip and guacamole appetizer. Barely enough chips were on the plate and the guacamole looked like it was in a shot glass. tiny portions! I finally got my club sandwich. It should have looked like a stacked sandwich...nice and yummy. Looked blah and tasted mediocre at best. It came with a side of fries...if you can call it that. The fries looked and tasted like they were the last from the batch, small, burned and crummy. I should have sent them back. But I figured it would take another 45 minutes to get them back. They never returned until we BEGGED for more soda re-fills. The "cafe" was dingy and dirty looking. Would I go back? NOPE. read more

Short story long.... I went to BG's this morning with my fiancé and it was basically one of the worst experiences ever at a restaurant. They have a sign at the front that says,"Take a seat wherever you like." The lie detector test determined that was a lie... I gave the girl at the front my name and I was amazed on how unorganized it was. Two guys that came in after us sat down at a table with no questions asked. It was pretty busy and other people besides us were waiting to be seated. While waiting to be seated, we were all standing around tables in the front while people were eating which was awkward. Some people were waiting outside in the cold. Horribly, there was no seating for people waiting to be seated. We were called to be seated after not too long. We got to our booth and my fiancé kind of fell into the middle of her seat which you can tell had broken springs and broken pieces inside of it. Although I respect the history of any place, they really need a makeover as far as seats and tables. Sooo... I like to order multiple items if it's my first time trying a restaurant. My fiancé ordered a burger and I got country fried steak with eggs and hash browns and the beef dip with fries. We both ordered coffee and water. Our waitress forgot the creamer so the girl at the front passed by and she had to get it for us. Minutes go by and we see our food sitting under the heater. The owner refills our coffees. I finish my water and put it out to see how long it takes for the waitress to fill it up (it never got filled). About 15-20 minutes after our food was placed under the heater we finally get our food. Both fries as well as the eggs were cold. The waitress forgot my toast and said they'll be up. I had eaten my steak and eggs and while working on my dry beef dip, the owner brings me my toast and says,"You finished your breakfast plate?" I looked at him and smiled and he placed the toast on the table and walked away. No apology or acknowledgement that they did something wrong. I like toast with my eggs. Not with my beef dip and fries... While eating, my fiancé looks behind me. I look and our waitress is putting someone else's food up to the food warmer to heat the food up again. Really?! My fiancé said the burger was ok but the fries being cold ruined her meal altogether. The country fried steak was ok but not worth ordering here. The over easy eggs were served cold but I love eggs and will eat them at any temp. I prefer them hot the way they're supposed to be served at restaurants. The beef dip was super dry and salty and was the only dip I've ever tried that didn't have cheese. The prices weren't too bad but I would never pay for anything at a place with service like this. I know it was a busy day but good businesses strive to keep that business and deliver great service under any circumstance. Only twice in my life I've left a restaurant and didn't tip. This was the second (Sorry waitress. Tips are earned). If I could give this place half of a star, I wouldn't. It was just bad from beginning to end. Shame on you owner for being in house and letting service get that bad. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. read more

I ordered the dulce de leche coffee, which was perfectly sweet and the baristas recommendation. My friend's pistachio latte was honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've ever tasted, and the chaggacino was just as delicious. Not one person in our group had a bad drink. The staff was so kind, especially the sweet Korean gentleman who helped us. He completely turned our mood around after we missed our train. I also loved that they use organic ingredients. From the outside this looks like the driver walked in, asked for the order, they said they didn't have it and then cancelled it. So, my wife called Tree Lounge to see what is going on and was told that they cancelled the order because they were "in the middle of their rush". It's easy to see how poorly this situation was handled in general, but also clear no one checked online orders to prep the work for the morning. This order shouldn't be a surprise and the choice to just blind cancel it instead of making it because of what equates to "we're busy" is pretty bad. Takes a lot for me to leave a review. If you don't want to process online order during your rush then set those hours up in door dash. If you screwed up and just didn't check your online orders in the morning, then just make the drink as the next up order. A large white board was the menu. Lots of options to pick from. However with the variety we ordered the food was just ok with the grilled snapper and fries being the stand outs. The fried fish seemed a bit too oily, the tempura batter too thick on the vegetables and the clam chowder needed more flavor. Given the years in business, I was hoping for more from the food.

BLTA used the same disappointing bread, flaccid under cooked bacon a tiny amount of pesto aioli and more avocado then there was on the avocado toast. Kids mini pancakes were good but chocolate chips are $1 up charge. I will say yesterday's eggs Benedict was good- hollandaise is excellent. Breakfast potatoes were a bit undercooked. Bloody Mary was a bit weak in my opinion. After all of that- I got a look at the receipt and there is a 2% BOH RevShare added to the bill. My best guess is this is fee to help pay the kitchen- To be honest we went here because it was a short walk from the Hilton. After the poor service, bad quality and hidden fees- we would be better off eating on the resort.
