Wow! Is what my tastebuds are screaming! I randomly came here on a suggestion by gold ole Yelp's suggestions and man am I glad that i listened today after doing some reconnaissance work via the photos. I personally like to see pics even though it can be a gamble, sometimes. Now let's get to the nitty gritty. I had the nopalito omelette ($10.50, reasonable I think. Especially living in LA where everything is like $14.00 because it's "Hip" and "organic" at not always that tasty) that comes with nopales/cactus (not easily found in restaurants but when I see it, it's a must) slivers, onion, and some serrano peppers. (Not spicy for those that may worry about that). It also came with option of delicious carbs, I chose the country potatoes that were amazing In flavor and aroma. My senses were like "WTF"!!. The coffee was great simple and bold. Lastly, I shared the $4 cinnamon roll that was marketed well. It didn't look like much aside from the butter on top but when you cut a piece it was a cinnaminy icing extravaganza. Done!! Drop the mic !!!!!! ........Ok, I'm not done! Always try to visit BG's cafe while in California, the staff is always very friendly, the cinnamon roles are very good as well as the breakfast! Order cinnamon rolls first, they run out! We try a variety of things on the breakfast menu, everything is really good. I usually get the Chilaquiles and it hits the spot. We've been here before and the food is normally pretty good! This time around we ordered the corned beef hash, hash browns well-done (we love our potatoes), and a cup of overripe fruit. Here at bg's again in oxnard. Staff very friendly, you can sit where you want, and is very clean for 40 years in business. I ordered coffee the creamer curdled in my coffee so I ordered a new cup. Staff who might be the owner manager sets down the glass with her finger in it. Can I say yuck. Ordered huevos rancheros salsa on the side over well eggs, got salsa n the rancheros n scrambled eggs. While I waited for it to be remade I watched my bf have breakfast by himself which he stopped to wait to have his now cold pancakes with me. I would stay away from the pancakes they are under cooked in the middle. Safe bet is French Toast. There Coffee and hot chocolate is good.

Upon arrival, the restaurants decor leaves a lot to be desired. The decor is outdated and unappealing much like the food and service. Judging by the amount of people, it is definitely a local favorite, probably because the prices are fairly low and reasonable. If you're in a hurry, don't bother to sit down. The service was slow and the waitress was not attentive at all. Once we ordered we waited for what appeared to be hours for our food. It was consistent as there were others around us who were suffering the same fate. We finally received our food. One bite and we wished we hadn't. It was bland, tasteless, cold and a globby mess. I can't begin to describe the many issues we had with the food. Suffice to say, we left over half of our order on the plate, paid and walked out vowing never to return again. read more

I was very impressed with their food selection and service. Only complaint it was super hot but the owner said he was going to be fixing that. Decided to try because of great reviews sorry to say the food was below average, over priced for a skimpy dish. My chorizo omelet was over the top salty and dry, I ordered another dish which made the already surly waitress more surly and she charged me for the original item I sent back which was $2 more than the replacement order. You can't go wrong with this this place for breakfast. I lived in Oxnard for 20+ years before moving away. My two favorite restaurant spots In Oxnard were uncle herbs and this place. With the closing of Uncle Herbs years ago, I don't know of a better spot for breakfast. Still go here when I feel like a little drive, Love the spicy Italian sausage and eggs. I usually eat here 3 times a week. I enjoy the food, the friendly staff and I know many of the customers. Veronica is one of the owners and is usually around to assure good service. The menu was recently refreshed and the choices are tasty and flavorful. Their Mexican breakfasts and entrées are very good. Their homemade salsa is medium to mild but really good! I use it to spice up my meal, but really like it on cottage cheese. My only issue is that the kitchen can be slow, but other than that, a great place for breakfast or lunch. B G's is our number one choice for breakfast or lunch. The staff is super friendly and the food is great. My personal favorite is the BG's Famous Burger.
