Just left this bakery completely astonished. The only person at the front servicing customers is a hispanic girl who doesn't speak a single word of English. I wanted to buy bread and asked her about their promotion, she just stared back at me. I wanted to order a drink and she kept saying no, the only word she knew how to say. Im all for people working together, but please learn to speak English so you can communicate with customers. This is a basic requirement for working in service. Will not return.

Pasteis de nata - Portuguese-styled egg tart

BF Bakery and Café took over the formerly Desir bakery. Still the same products, and the same store. I believe even the people are the same. I stopped by this location inside the 99 Ranch store in Plano because I was told by several Portuguese expats that this was the place to get pasteis de nata, otherwise known here as the Portuguese-style egg tart. When I arrived, I couldn't find it but upon asking at the counter, they told me they would have it ready for me in 10 minutes. It was nice to know that I can order them freshly prepared. Each was $1.75, and given to me piping hot. The flavors were good, and I enjoyed it. It's not exactly like Belem's or the pasteis I get from Portuguese supermarkets, but this may be as good as it gets. For once, I'm thankful for the European colonization of China, haha (with the Portuguese establishing the Chinese city of Macau where these custards can be found everywhere). Other pastries here seem to sell well, as there was a line when I arrived in the morning and breads/pastries were consistently sold out and being replenished. All in all, a good sign. I would come back.

Japanese bun (crispy on the outside and buttery deliciousness)

I LOVE this bakery! Located inside 99 Ranch, this Asian bakery is sure to satisfy all your carb-y needs. They have both sweet pastries like red bean bean, milk bun, egg tarts...and savory pastries as well like hot dog green onion bun, pork sung bun, cheese bun. They're freshly baked each day! Just get a pair of tongs, a tray, and load up. :) (Yes please use tongs and not your hands thank you.) Each item is affordably priced $1-2 with some exceptions like their roll cakes and toast. Here are my favorite pastries: + red bean mochi bun + bo luo bun (pineapple bun) + fruit custard bun + Japanese bun (looks like a flower and is crispy on the outside!) The only thing that I have not enjoyed are their cakes. I had a black forest cake and it had too much frosting for my liking. I prefer Mozart or Tous les Jours for cakes! Definitely stop by if you get the chance. Go in the late mornings to get first pick and to avoid the crowds. Plano is really lucky to have such a large Asian bakery like this. :)

I really like the speciality breads here( Asian -Taiwanese style bread), price is good and size of the breads are consistent. $0.99'to $2.00 for breads.

Bakery inside of 99 Ranch. Their Portuguese eggs tarts are pretty good. Buluo bao (pineapple buns) are not.

And that salsa verde on top? So good. Both the chilaquiles and the blueberry Earl Grey scone were my favorites. The scone was especially nice and moist with a unique flavor combo. I also liked the churro cruffin, and the birria brisket croque madame was delish and satisfying. Two of us ordered the Sweet Potato Latte and one got the Turkish latte, all half sweet (we generally prefer less sweetness than most), and all three of us really liked ours. Service was also great -- even though it was packed, our server was attentive and friendly. Great spot if you want something a little different for brunch or a bakery stop. Definitely worth checking out.

The waiting area was really nice and spacious. We got to try the Love Potion Latte (limited time), the Croissant Monkey Bread ($4.75), and the Birria Brisket Croque Madame ($19). The Love Potion Latte was okay, it's made of chocolate mocha, espresso, milk, and dried strawberry chunks. The Croissant Monkey Bread was delicious. The dough pulled apart so well and the cinnamon sugar on top added a nice touch to it. They toasted your bread too so it was warm and moist. The Birria Brisket Croque Madame was the best! It is a huge portion and we cut it in halves already, but it filled us up! The sourdough was still crispy, well-toasted, and it absorbed the juices from the birria so well. We went for a light breakfast but came out so full and stuffed. The prices are a bit expensive but it was reasonable for the quality and portion size. They are sooo packed though with customers coming in and out at all time. I would definitely make reservations next time!

Located among the shops and bars of historic downtown sits 1418 Coffee, a cute and genuinely great little shop that fits the area perfectly. Inside, the shop is fairly narrow but offers a good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. I arrived with a friend a little before 11 am on a Sunday, and it was absolutely packed. A biking group was posted up outside, students were inside working on homework, even though most colleges have not started yet, and plenty of other patrons were taking their Sunday mornings easy. Despite having at least 10 to 15 people in front of us, the line moved pretty quickly. My friend who was more of a regular at the shop knew a lot of the staff and had convos with them. It feels like a little community! I ordered the Maple Sausage Croissant sourced from Sugar Loaf Bakery along with a hot Purple Haze latte made with lavender and vanilla syrup. My drink came out fairly quickly, and I thought it was great. It was well balanced and not overly sweet. As for the Maple Sausage Croissant, it was exactly what it sounded like, a maple sausage tucked into a croissant. I initially expected the croissant itself to be maple flavored, similar to a McGriddle, but it was still fresh and enjoyable. They had been keeping them warm in a heater throughout the morning, which definitely helped. I have stopped by 1418 Coffee a few times when visiting Dallas, and I plan to keep returning. They consistently do a great job and fit right into the charm of downtown Plano. RIYL: A warm haven in a beautiful downtown.

The baristas are all super friendly and were happy to answer all my questions. It's also super cozy with dim lighting, and the music isn't super overpowering or loud. There's mostly comfy couches but also a few tables and high top seating. Just a little chilly, so I'd recommend bringing a jacket. I was able to comfortably complete some work on my laptop, with working wifi. There were also people here socializing in the morning. They no longer serve breakfast tacos, so I opted for a bacon cheddar scone at one visit and a lemon blueberry scone on another. They were both delicious! The baristas told me that their chai leans toward the sweeter side versus the spicier side, so I opted for an iced sugar-free vanilla latte, which was not overly sweet. I also tried the beez neez (latte with honey and cinammon) another time and enjoyed it! They offer 2% milk, which I don't always find at coffee shops. Since it's in downtown Plano, there's street parking, which wasn't difficult for me since I came at 8 AM. I believe there are parking garages located nearby. Overall, I've greatly enjoyed 1418 Coffee and will most definitely be visiting more throughout this month while I'm working in the area!

The typical bakeries in this area (Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen etc) are often chains, and focus on soft breads such as donuts and cakes, with the token boring croissant, and the Asian bakeries (also chains) offer a completely different style of breads, so to finally come across a place with innovative crisp laminated pastries is a treat! Note - they do not sell breads. I visited on a Friday morning around 8am and although there were only two people ahead of me in line, they were already out of almond croissants and I took the last sausage roll on display (but the bakers were probably baking more). There was a continuous flow of people in and out. The location is definitely set up to be a to-go place and NOT somewhere you come to sit and eat. No ambiance.
