I love bread. I reaaaaaaaally love bread. Wheat, white, sourdough, brioche, olive, CHEESY...I don't discriminate on my breads (unless you are rye, then you can leave). As someone who rarely has bread products in my house, Beyond Bread was my escape to the land of gluten-filled dreams! Basically, this restaurant is delicious. The line at Beyond Bread was almost beyond the door when we arrived, so I knew it had to be good. The line moved quickly and it was surprisingly easy to find a table for seven. I ordered Maddy's Madness (chicken, bacon, provolone, avo, lettuce, mayo on multigrain bread) and split it with someone else at my table. The sandwiches here are big enough to share or take home for dinner. Our sandwich had a huge chunk of chicken, thick and fluffy bread, and there was no skimping on the fillings PLUS it also included a side. We ordered the chips, but there is a whole list of options like carrots and coleslaw (I don't recommend the coleslaw based on the group's reaction to it, although I didn't try it). Just in case this isn't filling enough, they have a ton of breads to sample while you wait. I went in for a random piece and accidentally grabbed rye. Ugh, rye. The surprise here? If you're looking for a sandwich, you've come to the right place. They make lovely loaves fit for every day sandwiching needs. I was so tempted to bring a loaf home, but they were huge and figured it wasn't in my best interest. I settled on their whole wheat pitas which are a little less of a splurge! I was able to taste some of the samples on hand with butter, yes they are very generous with their bread scraps! The caraway rye was a stand out to me - I would have liked to have tried the everything bagel one too. While the bread isn't as fancy as Barrio, it's still good and a heck of a lot less expensive. I view Barrio bread as more of bread as a spotlight and for more special occasions. Beyond Bread is more of an every day type, and goes with lots of things or on the side. Beyond Bread is a more upscale and gourmet spot than your run of the mill Panera. The closest thing I have ever experienced was Zingermann's in Ann Arbor, Michigan (if you haven't done Zingermann's, you must). I wish we had a couple of Beyond Bread locations in Phoenix. The decor is cute and exactly what you would expect, they even sell pies out back. I was afraid to go for fear of what I might come back with, plus transporting some of the pies home might not be such a good idea in plus 100 degrees!! I had my heart set on one of their sandwiches with Brie, because nothing goes better with crunchy chewy bread than Brie. I was leaning towards Bart's Bag, but didn't want the honey mustard or onions. I ended up with Curt's Club switching the Swiss for the Brie and the white bread for the baguette - it was delish! We ordered the full sandwich each (my husband got the Caprese) with an iced chai and chips as our side. I have to say these sandwiches are more filling than I realized, a half is plenty for a meal, but not as good of a deal price wise. We took the chips home and had them later. The chips are super crispy and thin, and tasty (I just wish they used better oils to fry them). The iced chai was lovely, but a little on the sweet side. I would have loved to have tried a dessert there, because their pastry display case was making me drool. This is a place where it might be better to share a whole sandwich and have room for dessert! The Peace of the Middle East salad is my favorite thing there. And I really appreciate the gluten-free option for regular bread on the side (especially since they specialize in that). But after I got my order, I found that they made the salad into a wrap, which is a really bad idea: this is the messiest thing I've ever seen in a food- service business. I absolutely love pastries and LOVE bread. I was in town for a short time and used Yelp to find some place nearby. It was very easy to find and to park since they have their own large parking lot. The restaurant is very large and it was pretty loud inside. Although they were busy, the line moved very fast. I had a teenager and 5 year old with me and the lady who was helping us behind the counter was so friendly with them. She was patient (especially with the 5 year old) in helping them pick something they would like which I appreciated so much. Once we ordered, it was easy to find a table and enjoy our treats! Everything was very fresh & tasty. We really enjoyed our time there and they fact that it was so busy and loud made the kids feel like they could be "kids". Some coffee shops are small and quiet and I think that would have made things less comfortable. After posting a review in which I complained about receiving a take-out order that had burnt bacon, the manager reached out and offered me a gift card to make things right. This was amazing, and appreciated, and so I made an order via their online system for my husband to go pick us up a dinner. We ordered the food at 5:25 pm. The online system told us the order would be ready at 5:45 and my husband (who will be late to his own funeral) arrived at 5:58 to pick up the food. He goes to the counter, pays, and is told the food isn't ready. Not a huge deal, he gets to wait. By 6:20 he is texting me wondering why the food isn't ready. I tell him to go ask someone at the counter. He finally does, and she seems confused as well as to why the food isn't ready. She says she'll go check. Husband begins sampling bread they've put out. By 6:45 I'm texting him telling him that it is an hour passed when we were supposed to get the food originally. I demand he goes and asks someone. Because seriously, he'd sit there all night and eat their free bread samples rather than go talk to someone. But he does and again they are super confused. Another person goes back to check and they end up telling him they're missing some ingredients to make one of the items we order. As you can imagine, I'm upset that it took them over an hour to figure this out. They tell him they'll make him something else, and he picks something else. Another 10-15 minutes goes by but finally someone comes and gives him the food. Because it has now been over an hour since we were supposed to get food, they profusely apologize. My husband ends up getting a free soda out of the deal. They then are handing him the food and decide to comp the entire meal because of the horrible wait time and their mistakes along the way. This was a *horrible* experience. However, the way they ended up handling it was very professional. Four starts professional, because we all make mistakes--it is how you correct them that counts. I appreciated that they realized there was a huge glitch somewhere (several times) and that they decided the meal was on them. I won't order from their online site anymore (I think this may have caused the start of the issue) but will probably send my husband back at some point to make an in-store order. They definitely have good food, I loved the sammies. read more

What a great decision that was! There are a lot of options on the menu - a lot of great options. We made our choices and didn't have very long to wait before our to-go order was ready. The food was oh so good! The service that we received was friendly and the restaurant itself was clean and a really nice space. I'd have no problem enjoying my meal in their space. If you haven't visited Beyond Bread, you're missing out. One of the Tucson staples that I think too many people forget about or overlook. If you want a soup or sandwich, this is your go-to. Each time I go, I try to pick a different meal, but I always end up getting either the butternut squash soup (Tuesday deal) or the Avi's Avo. Beware though! Their ciabatta bread is a bit tough. I always go back to it, but my mouth takes a beating with the sharp edges. My husband came with this time, and he got the Gino's Grinder. He said the taste was delicious (especially the roasted red peppers), but his bread was also very hard. His came with the baguette. Each sandwich comes with a choice of a side, and we both got the chips. Next time, I need to remember to ask for a softer bread option! But, I'll always to back. All ingredients are fresh and tasty. And Beyond Bread has a huge, moist, cinnamon-y cinnamon roll that is to die for. I brought some back to Chicago since I have yet to find one as good. Sometimes all it takes is one visit to a business... one visit and you just know you're a fan. This is how it was for me at Beyond Bread... One visit and I'm sold! Friend and fellow yelper Allyson B (actually Allyson L but she hasn't changed it on Yelp yet), suggested Beyond Bread when I told her I was looking for a lunch spot during my visit to Tucson on Friday. I used my handy dandy Yelp app to find my way to this location, and it was love at first bite... first bite into the extremely hearty and fresh multi-grain bread that I requested with my custom salad. Basically, it was the Avi's Avo sandwich transformed into a salad with multi-grain bread slices on the side, and boy did it hit the spot! Fresh turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumber... healthy, delicious, and filling - just the way i like it! I admired the selection of sweet treats in the pastry case but I decided to wait until next visit to splurge on one of those. I also noticed their catering menu, specifically the pretzel bread sandwich that feeds an entire party... I wonder if they deliver to Phoenix? Or perhaps I'll have to plan a party in Tucson just to have an excuse to order one of those! read more

They are open for takeout and also have outside seating available. To order, you stand in line with spots for socially distancing and then it's up to you to wait in a socially distanced spot but all there were doing that and the workers were all wearing masks as well as the customers there at the time. I had the cobbler salad that has lettuce, sliced turkey, cranberries, tomatoes, sliced cucumber, onions, blue cheese, walnuts and dressing. It came in a large clear plastic container and included two halves of bread and packets of butter. It was so large, I had 2 meals out of it as did the other person that had a sandwich-also large. This is a great place for a soup and sandwich combo. Their sandwiches are always very fresh tasting and of course, their bread is excellent. I should have remembered they have some amazing-looking sweets as I would have also bought a cookie, but I suppose my waistline is thankful I did not. It is very popular during lunch, and the ordering kiosk when you walk in the door makes it very convenient to place your order & then wait instead of standing in a long line.
