Beyond Bread is one of my favorite places in all of Tucson! Delicious breads and sweet treats made on site and fresh fresh fresh!!! The menu offers a selection of sandwiches and salads that will make your head spin and the serving sizes are massive!!! You won't leave hungry, but do try to leave room for something in the dessert case. My personal favorite is the magic bars! Don't forget to pick up a loaf of fresh bread, they can slice it for you as well so it's super fresh and ready to eat when you get home...(or if you're like me to steal a slice and eat it in the car like an animal!) As a native New Yorker and current resident of Oakland, CA I find it funny that my favorite sandwich shop is in Tucson (U of A 1994)...I'm really bummed that this place wasn't here when I was in school. We would go to the Sausage Deli (3 Star) or Baggins (3.5 Star) or maybe Mercury's (3 Star). Never Eegee's or chain's. I almost always get Max's Muffaletta, a salty in a good way mix of cured meats, olive spread, provolone, etc. on fresh and crunchy ciabatta bread. It's 2 meals easily, and I'm a pretty big eater. It's hard to go wrong on their menu. I eat there at least twice every time I visit Tucson and try to hit it on my way out of town as well. read more

Their sandwiches are BEYOND, literally. The club is big enough for at least 2 people. Everything is fresh and tasty. They bake their bread fresh daily. My only complaint is that their baguette is too crunchy. It actually tears up the roof of your mouth. There is always a line, especially on weekends like homecoming when all of the UofA students want to bring their parents to taste the goodness. The Wednesday special is amazing. The loaves of pretzel bread are also amazing. I love the pasta salad that comes with the sandwiches, although I'm usually too full to eat it. They even do some decent soups and breakfasts. But that Wednesday special. Oh my god. It makes me cry a little bit. What isn't so amazing is how insanely popular this place is and how hard it can be to find a table during the lunch rush. But I can't begrudge them their success. I I like Beyond Bread. I don't love it, but I like it. The bread is generally tasty, but the crust is a force to be reckoned with. Put away your dentures because you need the jaws of death to get through the exoskeleton on their baguette. After using your back teeth to gnaw through the bread, and rubbing the roof of your mouth raw, you may consider ordering the ciabatta on your next visit. I frequently order the green chili corn chowder & the Catch of the Sea. Although I've probably eaten every sandwich on the menu, I don't have a favorite. Brad's Beef and Maya's Market are good standbys. The ingredients are fresh and the service is speedy, but I fear the effects of crusty bread on my mandible. Love! Great sandwiches and sides! Only had lunch here but it was deeeeeelish! My only -star is I have occasionally encountered hard as a rock bread and some of the staff just assume you know the drill with ordering, any questions are met with a sigh and curt answer. I know they're busy but I'm not an idiot, just new to the restaurant's option-filled menu. Otherwise, the restaurant is sparkling, their outdoor seating area is always swept and clean, and the employees seem to be at ease and smiling. The sandwiches are creative and tasty and the visible kitchen area looks clean and tidy. **I was there one evening and saw a man loading hefty bag after hefty bag of their leftover bread to be used in a local feed the needy program. I think that's note-worthy as so many restaurants, by choice or due to local regulations, discard their excess in the dumpster. read more

As the name implies, this restaurant bakes a large variety of bread every day but they also do sandwiches, soup, and desserts/pastries. We love this place (along with a fair number of other folks around north-central Tucson judging by the crowd that always seems to be here). Great choice for lunch or really anytime you want an excellent sandwich (soup is also very good). A large variety on the menu, daily specials, or build your own. We continue to eat lunch at Beyond Bread every time I visit kids at UofA. Still love the bread and fixins. I did try something helpful. I have a hard time eating a sandwich with thick bread. Little person. Little month. So I asked for sour dough bread on my sandwich last time. When the girl repeated my order she said white bread and I said no sour dough and then she said white bread again. So I walked away from the counter thinking....how can a girl who doesn't know the difference between bland 'white' bread and flavorful sourdough work here? I have always wondered what the "beyond" part of "beyond bread" meant. Was it another dimension between the hungry and the full? Or perhaps a gateway into a universe built completely by dough? The world may never know. The world will however, know how I feel about this place. My personal favorite is the Brad's Beef which was a great sandwich comprised of roast beef, provolone cheese, green chiles, red onions and dressing. I'm definitely not a fan of veggies in my food but the chiles actually go very well to complement the beef. The bread part of my sandwich was certainly good but it was not "beyond" as advertised. The service here is always fairly quick and the workers have always eagerly awaited my order with smiles. If you're looking to grab a pretty quick bite to eat or are in the mood for sandwiches, be sure to check this place out. read more

I have not yet tried the food at Beyond Bread but I am finding this location to be a very pleasant place to get some work done on my computer. Coffee is fine and reasonably priced and I'm really digging their "Decaf Desert Rose" iced tea. Atmosphere is relaxed, lots of seating options and I'm thinking this may be a perfect spot for my book club to meet in the future. There don't seem to be many people studying or working here and must be just a bit too far out for the students -- I'm the only person with a laptop out -- which is pretty nice. There is wi-fi, not the fastest but easy to connect. Since it's pretty quiet during the day I'm not feeling rushed or pressured to give up my seat. I've only found one outlet so far but it is conveniently located between two tables near the front door. This place is just my speed: not an icky national chain AND not an overpriced, overly precious indie coffee shop. read more

I've had mixed experiences with Beyond Bread. I have been to both locations, several times each, and the one on Speedway is definitely better. The bread, as mentioned by other reviews, can be really hard sometimes. Perhaps I'm just not used to bread that way, but it is strange. They have a fair number of options on the menu, including both hot and cold sandwiches. Still, if you don't find anything on the menu that you like, you are able to order a "Plain Jane"and add to it as you see fit. The prices are okay, but nothing to write home about. There is quite a bit of seating, but every time I go there are a lot of tables that still have to be cleaned, so typically it ends up a pain in the ass to find a seat. The desserts all look excellent, but are mediocre in taste. You get free bread while you wait, and usually it's pretty good. The sides offered with your sandwich sort of suck. I would've much preferred that they give you the option of having bread as a side with your sandwich, especially given their name. read more

The place is always packed during peak times. Good luck finding a parking spot at lunchtime that is the only negative is that the parking lot is too small, but what can you do. This was my bread heaven. I wanted to try every bread in the store. The sandwiches here are HUGE and the dessert options are diverse. I ordered a tiramisu and a BLT on a brioche bun. I was able to take it home and eat it for lunch the next day. They also have bread samples in the front to munch on. This is a really large space for big groups. The menu includes sandwiches, soups and salads. Free WIFI too but not a lot of outlets. Service was great. read more

I've been coming to Beyond Bread for quite a while, they offer a wide variety of gourmet sandwiches, breads (to take home), salads and a full bakery with pies and cookies to boot. Bread is fresh and the meat/cheese is always delicious. While I love most of what they make, the portions can be unnecessarily large. Also, of the last 3 times I've ordered a side of baby carrots (which come with the meal), twice I received a bag of rotten carrots. If you've quite an appetite for a big sandwich, come to Beyond Bread. Otherwise, for a simpler sandwich in Tucson, you can't beat Baggins. read more

Beyond Bread was the first place my best friend and I went to when we got into Tucson to start our first year of college. After four years, not ONCE did they let me down. My favorite, by far, is Avi's Avo. Its the perfect combination of pure deliciousness that I like on my sandwiches: turkey, avo, cucumber, sprouts, and mayo. It comes on ciabatta bread, but I normally switch it for wheat. Sounds pretty average, but everything is so fresh it melts in your mouth. It gets REALLY busy on the weekends with hungover college kids, so make sure to get there early if you want a seat otherwise you might have to wait a little bit. Love. Love. Love. This place is a treasure. In 20 years it will still be here and be one of Tucson's distinct and distinguished locations. Sandwiches, breads, soups and pastries are all great tasting. But let's not underestimate free bread and butter while you stand in line! I've had the roast beef, ham and cheese and meatball subs, all are worth the trip. I like the cole slaw also. It's a peppery surprise. They also make a mean Russian tead cake. Don't know if they qualify for wait service, you order a counter and they give you a food related flag that you carry to the table. They find you by the flag. So it's a half wait, git it, half wait. I prefer the ambience at the Speedway and Wilmot location, plus you have the added benefit of being near Bookman's, so why night make a night of it? read more

YUM. MMY. We ate here way too much during our time in Tucson, which is not a bad thing. The sandwiches are fantastic and huge, and the baked goodies are quite good (sticky pecan rolls!!). Big fan of the Avi's Avo, and we also enjoyed the chicken tortilla soup. We like that carrots are a choice for the sides (also baked chips, kettle chips, or for $0.50 extra pasta salad -- so-so -- or vinegar coleslaw -- very vinegary, or for $1.00 extra, green salad). The Campbell location is nicely situated central to the town, and has plenty of open seating. Good for breakfast when things are being newly baked, lunch for a quick bite, or even as a small dinner. Our first time here at this location and have to say we were disappointed. The cashier clearly seemed overwhelmed and though pleasant needed help to ring up a simple 2 sandwich order. When our order was delivered only my wife's sandwich was brought out. The server left taking the paper with our order number on it.We waited and waited for my sandwich-after awhile we saw the server again and asked where my sandwich was. He asked for our receipt which of course the cashier had NOT given to us. To his credit he did find my sandwich which clearly had been sitting somewhere getting cold and hard. He offered no apology nor did he offer to heat it or make any kind of remedy to a situation they had created. My wife's sandwich was ok she said. Mine was cold of course and hard. We were left with a distinct impression of poor customer service, average food and no desire to go out of our way to return. The lack of even an apology for the delivery mixup was particularly annoying. A simple "sorry about that" would have gone a long way. You dont get a chance to make a second first impression. read more
