I may regret telling people about the BPP, but I doubt it will ever get overrun by hipsters unless West Seattle suddenly becomes the new Capital Hill, so on with it... Anyway, the BPP is a beer-lover's Mecca. They have about a dozen taps and a large walk-in cooler full of bottles of all the best beers that can be had in WA state. They focus on local/regional micros, and almost every Thursday they have Brewer's Night where one of the local breweries shows up with a keg of something special which they proceed to serve on cask until it runs out. They also give away brewery swag via raffle (you get a ticket with each beer you buy). Monday nights are $2.50 pint night, which means that ALL the taps (except the fancy imports) are $2.50/pint. How can you beat that? The owners (Gary and Terri) and staff (Rob, Lorraine, et al) are also super cool and laidback and love beer as much or more than all the regulars. The place does NOT have a kitchen, however, but this is actually a good thing, because you can bring/order in any kind of food you like. All of the restaurants within a mile know where the BPP is and are used to delivering there. The place has a front room that feels like your second living room and a back room that is more of a game-room feel, with pool tables, video poker, bigscreens for the Big Game, etc, so it has something for everyone. I think the only reason this place is still under the radar is that it's really a neighborhood joint, and this neighborhood (mile or so south of the West Seattle Junction, corner of California Ave and Fauntleroy) is Not Hip. Nice place, nice ambiance and a great big list of drinks! Went there last night with some fellow yelpers for the West Seattle Hoedown (umm, I mean "Happy Hour"). Parking was easy enough to find (+1), the place was nice and spacious with a great ambiance and beautiful wood work (+1), the drink list was astounding and maybe even a bit overwhelming (but still +1) the company I was with was entertaining and engaging (+1). I couldn't decide what beer to try so I decided to get my new *regular* beer, Manny's, great beer but lame on my part for not being more adventurous and trying something new. (-1 for me). :( I was a bit surprised that they didn't have food, other than nuts and popcorn, but you can order out for delivery, seems kind of strange but at least it's an option! They have a game room that is almost half of the building so that's cool, unfortunately I didn't get to venture in there since we were all busy chatting it up. I'll try out the game room next time for sure and update my review, but it did look like fun in there. A couple of times a month I wander to the wilds of West Seattle to spend some time at the Beveridge Place Pub. Most of the time I take my trusty companion - Fergus - as he loves socializing with his kind of people - drinkers. I love their beer selection, but usually leave my drink choice up to Marcus from Schooner Exact. Great trivia night - though the trivia master can be a bit chatty for my taste. Only downside is that you have to bring, or order in, food. Wouldn't hurt if they had a small menu of things like chips & salsa - or prepared sandwiches. Okay. Ten months in Seattle so far. Time to choose my favorite bar. GO! Beveridge place has my favorite beers and there are lots of friendly dogs. The dog owners never seem to mind the attention you pay their pups and while that's more a compliment to the dog owners than the pub itself, it seems this is the best place to do that. Dogs, Beers, Games. The other day they had a tray of little free cupcakes. I love cupcakes. Thank you for the cupcakes. I invented a game while I was there the other day. My girlfriend can attest to the quality of my game-creation skills. Trivial Parcheesi. You get asked a question. The big let down was the unwelcoming nature of some of the guests and staff (particularly the male staff.) YES!!! A dog friendly place!! The first room you enter is like a parlor room area with bar and then there is another room where the TV and pool tables. The parlor room was nice and cozy. People here are super friendly and willing to share their tables. My dog made BFF with another dog-Libby- who happens to be close to her age. They would play with each other laying down and not taking up room. Whew! Lot of beer choices and some good lambic beers! I have a particular beer palate. My husband loves those sour and stout beer. This place has got a great attitude. It's very relaxed and friendly. And the bar tenders have incredible memories! They remembered my name and what I ordered the last time I was there, and it had been over three months! The new building is beautiful. It's a lot bigger but still has that small pub feeling. They only serve beer and wine, and I use "only" lightly because they have LOTS of beer! Crazy stuff from all over the world that I've never heard of. I have a lot of fun trying out all the foreign delights. They do not serve food, but they do have a binder crammed full of menus from local restaurants that deliver to the pub. Some of these places have a special contract set up and will only deliver to this particular establishment, so you have to make sure they know that! You can also bring in your own food and have a potluck with your friends, or just bring your left-over cold pizza so you don't have to sit at home alone to eat it. They sort of allow dogs in the pub. They have to be "service" dogs legally, I guess you can obtain a license for that somewhere. I have seen non-service dogs in there and they don't put up a fuss as long as it's on a leash and well-behaved. The front area is more of the lounge "quiet" setting where you read/talk/play board games. The back area is for watching sports, playing billiards or this crazy British bowling game (it's a lot of fun, I won a pitcher of beer from another patron by winning it). The outside area is a little smaller than I had imagined, but it's still nice to be able to go outside if you want and not have to stand on the street corner. I would hate to give this place less than 5 stars as I've had plenty of good experiences here and I love coming here with my dogs and foster dogs- but my experience last night kinda sucked. A lot of the more negative reviews here have actually referred to the bald employee. I initially attributed those reviews to overly sensitive people, but after last night I am in full agreement. I love me my dark beers- chocolate, oatmeal, coffee, bourbon barrel stouts/porters and I'm always confident I can find a few good beers to try here. This is the kind of place you would go to when you had a large group of friends you wanted to watch a big game with, or several games. It's BYO food, though they do serve some limited snacks- mostly nuts and chips. Aside from several TVs in the back room, there's a shuffle board that is generously sanded, a pool table and darts! In general, I've found the staff to be really enthusiastic and helpful- one would even say happy to be working there. Not sure what happened yesterday but I was served by the rudest person there. I did the usual when ordering and asked for recommendations on any good dark beers- most of the time the bartenders are pretty excited about several selections and can describe them fully. This guy has one suggestion, stared at the list for a good min and then looked annoyed and asked me what I wanted. WTF? So then I just asked if he could do a flight of all the dark beers (stouts/porters) he liked. Again, he looked annoyed, said they can do a "flight" but would have to charge me individually for each pour. I accepted, because duh? He hands me a sheet of paper, a pen, then tells me to step aside so he can take care of the next person. I was visibly irritated at this point and he sensed that because after I put my order in with someone else (who didn't give me any attitude by the way), he tried to make small talk about my beer choices. Sorry buddy, you lost me. I'm not sure if it's just a matter of him lacking knowledge of beers or if he is just naturally unfriendly, but I will certainly avoid ordering from him in the future. read more

My favoritist pub! Has been for nearly four years, now. My review should be taken with a grain of salt, since I'm friends with many of the bartenders, but this is a place where you can be social. Located on the corner of California Ave SW and Beveridge Place SW, the owners wanted it to be a community meeting place, and they succeeded. While it has gotten a lot more crowded since they moved into their new location, it is still a friendly and sociable place, with none of the meat-market atmosphere of Talarico. In fact, the bartenders have no qualms in 86-ing people, for being too unruly. Anyway, this place has about 30 beers on tap and about 200 in the bottle. How awesome is that? On Thursdays, they usually have beer-industry related events. Don't go in there expecting Miller Light, but if you want some really obscure Belgian, German, British, American, or even Italian beers, this is your place. Here's the caveat: this is not a full bar! They serve beer and wine only. You are not allowed to bring in outside soft-drinks, either. This has to do with the technicalities of having a tavern license and not a bar license. You are, however, encouraged to bring your own food. Rob, one of the bartenders, recently informed me that they were voted as one of the top 100 places to drink, in the country, in some magazine so illustrious that I don't remember it. Best beer selection in West Seattle, if not all of Seattle. Dog friendly, helpful and knowledgable staff, cool and laid back patrons. No food, but they let you order in, which I actually see as a benefit. You nad other can go to one place, get whatever kind of food ypoure in the mood for, and they will have 20+ beers that go with your dish, and be able to point you in the right direction. Thursday nights they always have something especial on tap, as well as a festival of some sort, cask, IPA, barleywine, etc. Overall just a great place to throw a party, watch the game, play trivia, or just chill out. Best room in the city Bar none, this is the best room in town. Maybe you would hate it if you're some kind of metro-ite who doesn't like wood or beer or soccer, but if you squint you wouldn't even detect the latter two. I wish I had more friends with loose schedules so we could occupy a whole couch wedge and drink the best beer in the world. It's such a warm nice place, I'm lucky to live close. Bottom Line: If you don't like it here, we wouldn't get along. Cool place... cute decor... comfy furniture and you can order food from anywhere nearby or bring your own. Cool concept but honestly I can hang out with my dog (or all my friends dogs) at home for less. Don't get me wrong I totally dug the concept, the dogs roaming around under the tables or in their owners laps while the owners themselves supped peacefully on their fave beer. The pool table and mini shuffleboard table were kinda neat and in very good condition. The bartenders were very nice and quite approachable and didn't look at me weird when I ordered cider cause I didn't like their wine selection and I hate beer (yes I hate beer, leave me alone). Overall I kinda liked the whole ordering a pizza and having it delivered to your table thing and as far as pubs go this one was pretty cute. But my main issue was with my cider. It was flat flat flat, and only about room temperature and that was out of the tap... so not so sure what was up with that... but honestly I liked this place and htough its not really my style if I got invited back I would grab my dog and go. read more

All West Seatttlites seem to be very fond of this pub and with good reason, it's low-key and has a killer taplist of NW beers. There are only four easy steps to enjoying yourself here: 1) Order at the bar (if they do table service it is not often). They have wine if you aren't into beer. And maybe water if you ask nicely. 2) Relax and enjoy the numerous seating options, pool tables, tvs, games and books. 3) Plan where you are going to order food from or eat beforehand. They don't have their own food so many restaurants in the area deliver here. I recommend Kokoras which our friends introduced us to on our most recent visit. 4) When you're all done, fill up a growler for a reasonable price and be on your way. So why the four stars? The last time we were there we got some seriously shady service. Apparently the regulars weren't working from what our local friends tell us. Two of us were carded after we had already been there an hour and one of the two had already been carded! I went to the bar to order a beer and ordered it by the name. The server said she didn't know what was and I'd have to walk to the other end of the bar to find out the brewery name. Thanks for the service. There was a huge line and it just shouldn't take so much effort to get a damn beer so we skipped to step four and left. Better luck next time. read more

Man, I wish I lived closer to West Seattle, because this is a really cool place. I came here the other night for the Salty's Elite After-party with my new found Yelp friends. As I entered I got stared down by a black and brown pitbull... How clever, a dog friendly pub. I perused the menu which apparently doesn't include food. But, don't fret... There are a myriad of restaurants in the neighborhood, that do deliver and BPP allows you to dine on whatever you want to order. Sweet! I split a few slices of Zeeks Pizza with Heidi P and Uhura... I feel so special, I met so many nice people... After supping on a few pints o' pils, I entered the game room. First Sadler P and my goalie kicks skooled some poor chaps at foosball (possibly Matt Y?) . Next was shuffleboard- which was dominated by a group of ladies. They were kind enough however to teach me the game then allow Sadler P and I join them on a friendly doubles match. It was Logan and I, Erin and Sadler, Karah took score. I can't remember who won, but I don't think I did very well at this game- not enough sand on the shuffleboard table is my excuse. Good times nonetheless... Small world this Seattle place is... It sure has some super nice people, you just need to know where to look. P.s. I didn't see any noisy, little yipper dogs in here though. read more

Love, love, LOVE Beveridge Place. I spent my 28th birthday here last weekend with two friends, two dogs, and a few more than two beers. We ordered thai food from down the streets, went in and out of the Sounders game playing in the next room, relaxed on the sofas, and met some interesting characters (including a hairy-backed man wearing a blonde pigtail wig and short shorts). And yes, that made my night. Bring your friends, bring your dog, and bring your appetite, because even though they don't serve food, some of the beers on draught are so thick and dark they constitute an entire meal. They have excellent suggestions to tickle any palate, and they are fast! My heart breaks a little when I see long lines at a bar, but these people work it. Even if there is a line, you won't wait long. The atmosphere is awesome. It's like going over to a friend's house to have a few beers (but the friend doesn't give you free beer). On St. Patrick's day I wanted to go to the Celtic Swell but on driving by I saw it was standing room only and since I'm lazy and don't like to drink my beer standing up I vetoed that idea and headed here. I read great reviews on the place and thought why not check it out. We walk in and the place is busy but not packed, the front room has a cozy family/living room feel about it. With scattered tables some couches and a nice big bar. If you walk out of that room you head to a 'game' area. There are more tables, some pool tables, dart machines, a Foosball table and some video games. On the shelves there are all kinds of games you can play from scrabble to cranium to domino's. We grabbed the domino's so I could learn how to play and took a seat at a table. We soon realized that there were no servers so we went back to the bar and grabbed some stools. I would have to agree with Melissa L, this place is a beer lovers Mecca. The majority of the beer on tap is regional micro-brews with a few foreign beers thrown in. Plus they also have a HUGE refrigerator full of bottled beer from just about everywhere and they have Lembic in a bottle which they serve in the cute Lembic glass that I always want to steal but never do. On our way to Colman pool we spotted this place & identified it as our after swimming watering hole. Great pick! Way cooler on the inside then it had any right to be. Loved the armchairs and style. Like a way cool person's living room (not like ours obviously). Dogs allowed, awesome books, and board games. We didn't score a seat in the tiny outdoor seating, but still enjoyed our funky table. I liked the bathroom doors too- check them out. Excellent variety of quality beers on tap and deals on wine & beer for happy hour. (Monday-Friday: 3pm-6pm; Saturday-Sunday: 2pm-6pm). Concentrating on what is important to them, they offer a few food items, but allow you to bring in outside food & even offer other places take out menus. This has to be my favorite unique-international-quality-only-find-here-beer place ever. Their choice to focus on beer sets them above a lot of other places, but being able to order food for delivery or bringing it from home... seriously Seattle Indoor Picnic style! The decor made me want to have people over as if it was my house. This place has a really unique comfortable cozy inviting vibe. You want to bring a group or just belly up to the bar and ask for a recommendation. My one tip would be watch the prices. You are talking some seriously good stuff from countries most people can't find on a map so it can be pricey. Some would call it a light at the end of a tunnel. Some would call it a beacon of light in a storm. Others would be less dramatic call it a great place to sit and drink beer at the end of a long walk. Whatever you call it, we were really freakin happy to have found it. We walked here on a warm(ish) Friday night after SummerFest from Beer Junction. One squinty-eyed estimation of distance on the Yelp Map app let us know it was only, like, 6 blocks or so (cough cough cough) so away we walked down California Ave to check out a place that had great beer but less crowded by the festival crowd. Upon walking in I was impressed with the dark woods, cushion-y couches and relaxed feel of the layout. A baseball team was eating Zeek's pizza. Dogs of all kinds peered out from tables. People were playing shuffleboard, board games and pool. BOARD GAMES!? I love spots that encourage all evening lounging with board games. (See my next review of Urban Family Public House) Totally blown away by the welcomed ambiance, it was time to saddle up to the bar. A chalkboard informed us of their plentiful beer choices on tap, arranged from admittedly light and summery lagers to black tar shit that will sprout hairs on your chesticles. (Can you guess which ones I prefer...?) I chose the Dogfish's rendition of girl brew and my taller half chose a dark and maple sweet IPA. Next round included a cream ale that, due to apparent difficulties with their nitrogen system was decidedly less than creamy, but proved to be a minor note of the night full of exploring a great new place and new suds to sample. read more

This place was great! It was a lot farther then I had thought, but once there it was well worth the drive from Mill Creek! Came here with two of my roommates who both loooove beer. They were both surprised at the selection Beveridge has, and not to mention the vast quantities of barleywines that they had when we went (their Barleywine week was going on) It was great seeing so many people's dogs here! Also, I don't think they do food, so it seems like you can order from neighboring food joints and eat at Beveridge. Food + beer= good times. My only complaint would be the fact it took a long time to place my orders and to get my tab closed out, although it was busy that night. They've got some table games, an easy lounge area to chat with friends, the beers are great and they show the games on their TV's. They are also dog friendly! Another great thing about this place is that, although they only have snacks on the premise (e.g. a bowl of peanuts), they have restaurants around that deliver to the place. The West Side's version of the Stumbling Monk, or maybe the Monk is the Cap Hill version of the Beveridge. The Beveridge is a funny place, with its living room up front, basement in the back feel. It's like they had a great plan for the place, but ran out of money when it came to finishing the place, so they just threw up four ramshackle walls in the back and said, "That'll do. All our customers will be drunk anyway, they'll never notice" The back room has a college punch-palace feel to it, with the de rigueur beat up pool table, the rusted beer signs and the standing room only drinking tables. Dead kegs litter the floor, or maybe they are there for overflow seating. The front of the house is your weirdo aunt's living room, with a mish-mash of disjointed furniture and family-style people. They have more beers here that you will know what to do with. My beer geek buddies turned me onto this place, with good reason. Seems most of the beers are regional microbrews, with some of my favorite Belgians mixed in. I would definitely go here more often were it not in West Seattle, which while so close to Belltown, feels so far away when you don't have a car. I haven't lowered myself to getting on the bus for the sole purpose of getting bombed, but stay tuned. read more

I've been meaning to create an excuse to come here for a while; visiting friends in West Seattle provided the opportunity. The pub is pretty big; one large barroom and one game room with shuffleboard, a colonial era game (I think) called Skittles, and billiards, along with TVs set to sporting events. I gather that a lot of out-of-towners (like myself) come to visit. As a result, there are a few signs throughout the pub listing the rules (i.e., dogs are allowed but have to be monitored at all times, rules for use of the pool table, etc.). At first, I thought they were a little off-putting, but the staff is warm and respectful about the rules. In the end, they came about, I'd wager, because it was the only way the pub could let people enjoy themselves as much as possible without chaos occurring (which sounds like Lord of the Flies with beer, but you get the idea). As I've mentioned the staff, I'd love to say thanks to the bartender, a gentleman with a shaved head. He made some awesome beer recommendations, including an unusual chipotle and black currant scotch ale from the pub's "iron brewer" competition. The beers here are well known as outstanding. Great selection of bottles, and a really varied tap listing. Bringing the friendliness of the staff into the mix makes this a great place to explore beer. read more

If I were going to fulfill my dream of owning a bar, it would be a bar that serves every type of food imaginable. There would be foosball tables, pool tables, board games, TVs, and dozens of other ways to entertain myself or a group of friends. The beer selection would be local as hell and second to none, and I would even have a few select wines and meads to balance it out. To top it off, I'd let people bring their dogs in. Of course, this place already exists, and it's called the Beveridge Place Pub. Since my idea is gone, I'll have to drown my sorrows with a few pints of Delirium Tremens. I know the perfect place to get them. The only thing keeping it from five stars is that the main bar set-up gets incredibly bottle-necked on busy nights and there seems to be a shortage of bartenders on those same nights. I'm not sure how I haven't already reviewed this place, because it's one of my absolute favorites. West Seattle is a bit of a trek for us, but BPP makes it worth the drive. It's a worthwhile destination trip, for sure. I would also pick it as the PERFECT spot for a first date (especially if you're a dog lover). Classy but dog-friendly, and if the conversation is lacking, plenty of games for entertainment. What I love? * HUGE selection of craft beers... like, the biggest I've seen anywhere * Wonderful well-informed bartenders... they seriously know their stuff * Feels like a GREAT Hall from the turn of the century. You'll know what I mean when you step inside * Lots and lots and lots of games.
