Probably the most disappointing falafel experience I've had in Vancouver. I had the Vegetarian Plate and nothing tasted fresh. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were on the verge of being mushy (I ate them, but considered discarding them, and if they'd been any more mushy I would've thrown them out), the hummus was grainy, the pickled onions tasted kind of funky, the samosa wrapper was not crisp, the dolma filling was weirdly dense, the pita was store-bought and very thin (I recognize this is intentional and a style some people like, I just prefer a thicker pita for dipping). The toum was really good, but that did not make up for everything else going on. They get a second star from me because when I ordered I also bought a bottle of their ayran to drink later, and that did end up being pretty good, so I feel my rating should acknowledge that there was something that wasn't a complete miss. But I definitely wouldn't eat here again. read more

Best Falafel - Vegetarian Plate - Middle Eastern Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

The best falafel in Vancouver is as superbaba hands down. I asked if the falafel was baked or fried and I was told I could pick. After requesting to have it fried I was surprised to see it come out of a microwave. Considering it's also the same price as superbaba I would suggest that of you're looking for a falafel save your money and go elsewhere. Staff were polite and place was clean for what that's worth. Hope you chicken lovers find something decent but if falafel is what you're seeking this is a hard pass. read more

Ordered the lamb shawarma platter. The food was good; pretty typical Middle Eastern fare. But at $15, kinda pricey. Everything in the dish was reasonably portioned, except the meat which was a bit on the shy side. Got my meal through Skip the Dishes. Ordered the lamb platter while a friend ordered beef. The containers were not marked. We couldn't tell which was which - they were identical. Even when we dove in, we couldn't tell. Overall, good, not great...so rating as average. read more

I just got my skipthedishes order, and while I was initially worried because the presentation wasn't great, the food was AWESOME. We got the falafel plate and the chicken shawarma plate, and both were generously portioned and very tasty. 10/10 would order again read more

This is the best place for hummus and shawarma in east van . Been a staple here in the Neighbourhood for many years . Family owned and run .

So this Commercial Drive Spot is so good and satisfying. My favourite here has to be the Chicken Shawarma Plate, which features of course chicken, but it's served with fluffy rice, a yummy hummus, pickles for contrast, garlic paste and your choice of Greek salad or Tabouleh. It's a great lunch every time and keeps me coming back. Apparently its open late, and vegetarian friendly! read more

Best Falafel - Chicken Shawarma Plate is sooooo gooood! Super friendly, clean environment and tasty Food! - Middle Eastern Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Okay, let me preface this by saying that I have been a regular customer of Best Falafel since 2003, have recommended them to numerous friends, and have always, always thought that they had the best Chicken Shawarma anywhere, hands down. Imagine my shock when I was told that they got rid of the standard rotisseries, where you used to be able to get those fantastically burnt-y yet moist chunks of chicken, and now have some sort of weird convection oven going on. I put my doubts aside, and tried it for the first time last night. So, so very disappointed! What the hell happened? Gone is the flavourful, mouthwatering chicken that I used to crave weekly. Instead, it is just a pale parody of what it used to be. No burnt-y pieces, flavour profile is not the same, texture is off. Please, please, please, bring back the rotisseries! I simply cannot fathom the change, nor can I come back an order what used to be my favourite food. I am so sad. Crushed really... read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk past but I was hungry so I went on Foodora. I ordered a Falafel Wrap, hummus and baklava. Boy was I disappointed. Falafel tasted like garbage. I have no idea why they lie, calling themselves best Falafel and I'm not sure they make it there. If they do they need to update the recipe and add some spice and flavour. It was like eating a dried sock. I took out the hummus I ordered a smeared it on the Falafel Wrap, that gave it some flavour. But they forgot to give me a pita with my hummus so I didn't feel like eating it with a spoon. Baklava was alright real juicy in the centre. Overpriced though for Baklava. Would I repeat? No. Would I recommend? No. Walk down the street for better donairs. read more

This place epitomizes Commercial Drive for me. It provides cheap, great ethnic food but you could easily miss this place due to their obnoxious sign and simple facade. The portions are usually generous here. My husband and I regularly buy one chicken shawarma plate to share for dinner. Due to it's quick turnover, the chicken is almost always juicy and moist. Most of the time, it's carved straight from the spit. I hate shawarma places that keep all of their meat in moisture-sucking warmers. They have a variety of sauces too. I love their garlic sauce - thick and spicy. My husband for some reason prefers their Vancouver sauce. I think it's sickly sweet but he always gets it on his half of the plate. I prefer to eat meat with a salty flavorful punch but if you like it sweet, give it a try. We almost always take our fare home. It's a nice, clean place with granite tables to sit at inside though. While we haven't tried their falafel and the loud sign outside proclaims them the "Best Falafel", this place truly is one of the best in the city for chicken shawarma. read more

Don't hesitate to get the Chicken Shawarma plate. The chicken is so juicy and rice so flavourful, it's becoming my favourite go-to. Very generous portion and includes pita wrap, salad, and hummus. This other dip that they put on the plate is magical, something like a garlic yoghurt mix, that other places don't add. Make sure you try it out. The place gets pretty warm, and I've only been here on hot days. They have chairs and tables set up outside, and it's so nice to be able to eat and people-watch at the same time while enjoying the cool breeze. read more

They are the best. Healthy, cheap, tasty and place. One of my favorites in town. I love their rice. It's kind of like that sticky dim sum rice you get inside the leaf. That's what it tastes like. Really good. read more

Best Falafel - Chicken parsley rice lettuce - Middle Eastern Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

With the multitude of Donaire/shawrama options in the area, this place is mediocre at best. Food don't taste very fresh, rice is bland, meat is bland, all these sides are store bought (picked etc). $14 is pretty expensive for a mediocre chicken plate. Service also isn't super friendly, the few times I went I feel like they don't care for my business. Based on the quality of their food I will not be returning . read more

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I sustained a broken tooth from olives that had pits still in them and they were put in my falafel. After being told the guy was rude to me and basically said it was my fault. It was a very bad experience. My tooth is stopping me from eating and sleeping due to this and they are unwilling to take responsibility for their actions. read more

Yum yum yum! Super tasty chicken shawarma. Its got such a nice of mix flavors, and chicken is so tender and flavorful.

I work downtown and was told about this place by the owner and because of that alone I made my way here after finishing work. (I live just off Renfrew/1st and work downtown so it's not really in my hood) Unfortunately they were waiting on the chicken (15 min) so it was suggested to try Lamb. Soooooooo gooooooooood! Even though hot sauce was added it wasn't too hot. And not microwaved as it seems other users were saying. I tried four yummy dolmas, Greek salad, tropic splash lemonade and checked in with yelp for a free baklava dessert. I was really impressed with the Greek salad. Unlike most other places out there-they didn't over onion the salad. And the pile of feta and two pitted olives...... I will definitely be back. Yummmm read more

I make the trek out there just to eat at least twice a week-100 percent addicted. Everything is so fresh and delicious and fixed to your liking. I usually get the falafel plate with hummus/tabouleh and then add a few dollars of chicken on top. Their hummus is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. I also buy the hummus and bread in bulk and it lasts a while in the fridge/freezer respectively. Very inexpensive, open late, healthy, simple, and excellent every time. Every time I am here the customers are wayyy more rude than at other places but the staff handle it well. Don't know why this is. read more

This place is so delicious! Great value and generous portions. My favorite is the chicken shawarma plate, extra chicken, with pickled turnips, pickles and banana peppers, tabouli, a few added dolmades, whipped garlic sauce and a side of their homemade hot sauce. Always some bread and olives for the hummus. I enjoy just scooping up the rice and chicken with their soft pita bread. Mmmmmm Mmmmmmm. The family that owns and operates this establishment are always so positive and friendly. Very generous heart felt people. Everytime I go I leave feeling better then when I came in. read more

Door Dash. I ordered 1 samosa. 1 falafel ball. 1 shawarma wrap. Falafel ball was tasty. Overall everything is quite typical.

I have been here twice and think its pretty standard Donair fair. Good choice of toppings and variety, meat is standard. You can get Tabouleh in your donair too. Bonus as most places do not offer. Dolmas seem like they are the ones that just came from a can and not home made. Its called Best Falafel so next time I will try the actual falafel. read more

Good shawarma and tabbouleh but unfortunately these are poor quality falafels. Almost like fried greasy bread, no crunch, not much flavour. Very odd about the name when it clearly isn't their specialty. Bring cash as the machine down but I somehow get the feeling that may happen often. read more

Another cheap, lunchtime spot for me. I quite like the chicken plate - as it's fresh tasting and not dry. I would avoid the beef as I wasn't too impressed with it when I had it - I found it to be dry and a bit chewy. For a really cheap lunch, order some hummous with an extra pita - the few times I've done this - I've gotten a big container of hummous and tons of pita - all for around 4 dollars. Unable to finish it - this was a nice bonus to have as a snack the next day! Don't expect much out of the decor or tables - as it's pretty meh - but the staff are always happy there. read more

Not quite living up to it's namesake, Best Falafel is a restaurant that used to sell sub-par falafels and donairs at some of the cheapest prices in the city, making the place amazing and well worth the visit. In recent times however, prices have surged upwards towards the $5 mark, without bringing the quality of the donairs above the $3 mark. Even though it makes sense from a health inspector viewpoint, there is something unsettling about watching the person microwave the food every time before serving it. The place is cozy though, it feels authentic with the huge trays of baklava weathering time behind the display case, and the industrial sized cans of dolmathes assembled in a pyramid against the wall. And the people are nice, I've even seen the cashier run out into the street to help a complete stranger change a flat tire. read more

If you like to know how the person who invented FLAFEL wanted you to taste it like, go to best falafel and try their wrap. It's a Lebanese falafel at its original taste, with no extras or twists. Though I think calling it the best falafel is a bit of a big shot! I will call it, the basic falafel, basic in a good way :). I went to this place once in a nice warm day, and the sitting area outside was all taken, so had to sit inside and the place was overwhelmingly WARM! but I guess this is how a felafel shop will be in the warm Middle East :D so this shop provides you with the right atmosphere of a Middle Easter falafel shop as well. Of course I ordered a falafel wrap (Daaa!) and I asked the server to put all the fillings they have that goes well with the wrap to be the best falafel. The falafel was microwaved (which is not so right when it comes to falafel) but it was not bad after all. The wrap was hot (falafel) and cold (salad), and crunchy and moist. The wrap was relatively small, so not so fulfilling by it self, so you might need a second or other side dishes along with the wrap. I think if I'm around Commercial Dr. I might go to BEST FALAFEL again, but I won't drive all the way for this wrap! read more

I've been going here for four years on a weekly basis. These are the things that I love about this restaurant: -The staff are entirely friendly in a genuine way. They seem intelligent and laid back. There's no variation on that. If they have a bad day, it doesn't show. They're quiet and efficient making your meal. -The food is generally quite good. The portions are consistent and fairly large. -The place has neutral casual decor that's suitable for a quick shawarma. It seems clean as well. There's enough space to move around, a counter at the front window, outdoor tables, a tv, newspapers, etc. What I would change: -The rice is too mushy sometimes. -I really wish the takeout containers were biodegradable. Staff is as important as food for me. I recommend trying it. read more

The chicken shawarma plate is to die for. The beef shawarma is not as good but still one of the best in town. For under 10 bucks, you get a pretty fulfilling meal, and healthy too! The salad sauce is great, so is the garlic sauce. If you are on Commercial, you are hungry and you want a quick bite, Best Falafel is the place to go. read more

Best Falafel is unfortunately not the best but it's good. Best Falafel offers Falafel, Donairs, and Samosas all for around 5-8 bucks. I got a veggie samosas for $2.50 each and there were okay but nothing outstanding. Also has other reviewers have mentioned there isn't really much spice in their dishes. It's true. However, the servers are really nice, and that makes up for the okay food I had. read more

Best Falafel is your average falafel/shawarma joint. There's nothing that truly makes it stand out in my mind as a world-shattering experience, yet it has a soft place in my heart. I think what truly makes BF special is their delicious assortment of condiments. My favourites are the garlic sauce and the sweet sauce. In fact, that's exactly what I go there for. The falafels are very decent, the meat is in no way dry and/or terrible, but the sauce... oh lordy! The sauce! I always, ALWAYS get extra garlic sauce and extra sweet sauce. This is beneficial for two reasons: 1. It's delicious 2. You'll stink so strongly of garlic afterwards that all of your enemies and ill-wishers will stay as far away from you as possible. It's like self-defense you can eat. read more

My favourite place for shawarma in the lower mainland. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable (though they have increased over the years). I have been to many falafel/shawarma restaurants in the lower mainland and they have the best tabouleh, and their chicken is always moist and delicious. My only (very minor) gripe is the restaurant is very small and sometimes difficult to get a table when it's lunch time. Always ask for the garlic sauce! read more

As a general rule in life, fried food should be made to order. Best Falafel, however, premade all their falafel and let them wilt in a metal bin. In addition, the inside was a pale yellow (aka no fresh herbs) and lacked flavor. So no, not the best falafel. The serivce was nice though! read more

I dropped in yesterday for a veggie falafel wrap. I got it to go because I wanted to struggle through my meal in private. I recently had surgery on my dominant hand so eating is messy and challenging (as is everything else). I get home, take one bite, and end up with a mouthful of some mystery meat. Great. My body hurts and I'm not actually a vegetarian so whatever, it tastes ok, so I continue shoving it in my face. Inside I am raging a little at this mistake on behalf of all my vegetarian friends. Oh well. Being home and comfortable was a bigger priority. I wasn't about to walk another 10 minutes there and back. Fast forward about 5-6 hours. My stomach is cramping up and before long there is a fiery poop storm in my bathroom. So much for being home and comfortable. All of today has been a fiery barf storm. As if my body wasn't suffering enough. Best Falafel my ass. Literally. read more
