The best falafel in Vancouver is as superbaba hands down. I asked if the falafel was baked or fried and I was told I could pick. After requesting to have it fried I was surprised to see it come out of a microwave. Considering it's also the same price as superbaba I would suggest that of you're looking for a falafel save your money and go elsewhere. Staff were polite and place was clean for what that's worth. Probably the most disappointing falafel experience I've had in Vancouver. I had the Vegetarian Plate and nothing tasted fresh. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were on the verge of being mushy (I ate them, but considered discarding them, and if they'd been any more mushy I would've thrown them out), the hummus was grainy, the pickled onions tasted kind of funky, the samosa wrapper was not crisp, the dolma filling was weirdly dense, the pita was store-bought and very thin (I recognize this is intentional and a style some people like, I just prefer a thicker pita for dipping). The toum was really good, but that did not make up for everything else going on. They get a second star from me because when I ordered I also bought a bottle of their ayran to drink later, and that did end up being pretty good, so I feel my rating should acknowledge that there was something that wasn't a complete miss. So this Commercial Drive Spot is so good and satisfying. My favourite here has to be the Chicken Shawarma Plate, which features of course chicken, but it's served with fluffy rice, a yummy hummus, pickles for contrast, garlic paste and your choice of Greek salad or Tabouleh. Doesn't look like much when you walk past but I was hungry so I went on Foodora. I ordered a Falafel Wrap, hummus and baklava. Boy was I disappointed. Falafel tasted like garbage. I have no idea why they lie, calling themselves best Falafel and I'm not sure they make it there. If they do they need to update the recipe and add some spice and flavour. It was like eating a dried sock. I took out the hummus I ordered a smeared it on the Falafel Wrap, that gave it some flavour. Don't hesitate to get the Chicken Shawarma plate. The chicken is so juicy and rice so flavourful, it's becoming my favourite go-to. Very generous portion and includes pita wrap, salad, and hummus. This other dip that they put on the plate is magical, something like a garlic yoghurt mix, that other places don't add. Make sure you try it out. The place gets pretty warm, and I've only been here on hot days. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I sustained a broken tooth from olives that had pits still in them and they were put in my falafel. After being told the guy was rude to me and basically said it was my fault. It was a very bad experience. This place epitomizes Commercial Drive for me. It provides cheap, great ethnic food but you could easily miss this place due to their obnoxious sign and simple facade. The portions are usually generous here. My husband and I regularly buy one chicken shawarma plate to share for dinner. Due to it's quick turnover, the chicken is almost always juicy and moist. Most of the time, it's carved straight from the spit. I hate shawarma places that keep all of their meat in moisture-sucking warmers. They have a variety of sauces too. I love their garlic sauce - thick and spicy. My husband for some reason prefers their Vancouver sauce. I think it's sickly sweet but he always gets it on his half of the plate. I prefer to eat meat with a salty flavorful punch but if you like it sweet, give it a try. We almost always take our fare home. It's a nice, clean place with granite tables to sit at inside though. Yum yum yum! Super tasty chicken shawarma. Its got such a nice of mix flavors, and chicken is so tender and flavorful.

I make the trek out there just to eat at least twice a week-100 percent addicted. Everything is so fresh and delicious and fixed to your liking. I usually get the falafel plate with hummus/tabouleh and then add a few dollars of chicken on top. Their hummus is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. I also buy the hummus and bread in bulk and it lasts a while in the fridge/freezer respectively. Very inexpensive, open late, healthy, simple, and excellent every time. (I live just off Renfrew/1st and work downtown so it's not really in my hood) Unfortunately they were waiting on the chicken (15 min) so it was suggested to try Lamb. Soooooooo gooooooooood! Even though hot sauce was added it wasn't too hot. And not microwaved as it seems other users were saying. I tried four yummy dolmas, Greek salad, tropic splash lemonade and checked in with yelp for a free baklava dessert. I was really impressed with the Greek salad. My favorite is the chicken shawarma plate, extra chicken, with pickled turnips, pickles and banana peppers, tabouli, a few added dolmades, whipped garlic sauce and a side of their homemade hot sauce. I have been here twice and think its pretty standard Donair fair. Good choice of toppings and variety, meat is standard. You can get Tabouleh in your donair too. Bonus as most places do not offer. Another cheap, lunchtime spot for me. I quite like the chicken plate - as it's fresh tasting and not dry. I would avoid the beef as I wasn't too impressed with it when I had it - I found it to be dry and a bit chewy. For a really cheap lunch, order some hummous with an extra pita - the few times I've done this - I've gotten a big container of hummous and tons of pita - all for around 4 dollars. Not quite living up to it's namesake, Best Falafel is a restaurant that used to sell sub-par falafels and donairs at some of the cheapest prices in the city, making the place amazing and well worth the visit. In recent times however, prices have surged upwards towards the $5 mark, without bringing the quality of the donairs above the $3 mark. Even though it makes sense from a health inspector viewpoint, there is something unsettling about watching the person microwave the food every time before serving it. The place is cozy though, it feels authentic with the huge trays of baklava weathering time behind the display case, and the industrial sized cans of dolmathes assembled in a pyramid against the wall. And the people are nice, I've even seen the cashier run out into the street to help a complete stranger change a flat tire. read more

If you like to know how the person who invented FLAFEL wanted you to taste it like, go to best falafel and try their wrap. It's a Lebanese falafel at its original taste, with no extras or twists. Though I think calling it the best falafel is a bit of a big shot! I will call it, the basic falafel, basic in a good way :). I went to this place once in a nice warm day, and the sitting area outside was all taken, so had to sit inside and the place was overwhelmingly WARM! but I guess this is how a felafel shop will be in the warm Middle East :D so this shop provides you with the right atmosphere of a Middle Easter falafel shop as well. Of course I ordered a falafel wrap (Daaa!) and I asked the server to put all the fillings they have that goes well with the wrap to be the best falafel. The falafel was microwaved (which is not so right when it comes to falafel) but it was not bad after all. The wrap was hot (falafel) and cold (salad), and crunchy and moist. The wrap was relatively small, so not so fulfilling by it self, so you might need a second or other side dishes along with the wrap. I've been going here for four years on a weekly basis. These are the things that I love about this restaurant: -The staff are entirely friendly in a genuine way. They seem intelligent and laid back. There's no variation on that. If they have a bad day, it doesn't show. They're quiet and efficient making your meal. -The food is generally quite good. The portions are consistent and fairly large. -The place has neutral casual decor that's suitable for a quick shawarma. It seems clean as well. There's enough space to move around, a counter at the front window, outdoor tables, a tv, newspapers, etc. What I would change: -The rice is too mushy sometimes. -I really wish the takeout containers were biodegradable. Best Falafel is your average falafel/shawarma joint. There's nothing that truly makes it stand out in my mind as a world-shattering experience, yet it has a soft place in my heart. I think what truly makes BF special is their delicious assortment of condiments. My favourites are the garlic sauce and the sweet sauce. In fact, that's exactly what I go there for. The falafels are very decent, the meat is in no way dry and/or terrible, but the sauce... oh lordy! The sauce! I always, ALWAYS get extra garlic sauce and extra sweet sauce. This is beneficial for two reasons: 1. It's delicious 2. You'll stink so strongly of garlic afterwards that all of your enemies and ill-wishers will stay as far away from you as possible.
