    Huge shawarma sandwich!!
    Elaina L.

My favourite shawarma sandwich spot in Downtown hands down! Great spot for a grab-and-go lunch. Looks a little run-down, but don't let its dark and minimal appearance fool you on the food quality. Recommend grabbing the food to-go and maybe heading over to Library Square. I probably wouldn't recommend sitting in because it's a pretty small store front and sometimes the line to order/pay wraps around the 2ish tables in the store. There are a couple of small tables outside as well, which can be a nice spot for a summer day. The menu is pretty small - maybe 5 or 6 items, but they do them all well! Usually I get the shawarma sandwich, which is usually a recipe for food coma. I love how juicy the meat is, while still having crispy parts to it. Definitely using a good mix of dark and white meats from the chicken. They keep 3 roasters going and make an effort to keep it warm by using aluminum foil to keep in the heat. They carve a small amount at a time, which I think is why I always get meat with a nice crisp to it. Other ingredients in the sandwich include tomatoes, lettuce, tabouleh, hummus, garlic sauce, hot sauce - pretty standard ingredients. The shawarma meat is definitely the star of the show. Servings are generous for around $8. Definitely appears to be family-run business. I always see the same 2-3 faces that are always extremely friendly and take pride in what they do. The small team works efficiently and manages to keep the line moving pretty quickly.

Had the shwarma sandwich today for the first time. The owner is very nice and the food is good. They are generous with the chicken and the shwarma is delicious. The seating area is small and it's very hot in the restaurant. Enjoyed my sandwich very much. Would try some of their dishes next time.

For a Chinese person, I have always loved falafel wrap ever since tasting it for the first time back in university days in 2005. Given so many restaurants that serve shawarma and falafel plates/wraps in Vancouver, this is one of the best falafel wraps I have had (I am a huge meat eater but I always opt for falafel over the meat option) Falafel king has a super friendly owner who is chat friendly :D The wrap itself had super fresh tasting tabouleh, the falafel are nice, big, fat, and round. The biggest falafel I have eaten so far in Vancouver, the taste is also excellent. I asked to have it spicy and it was. The wrap itself was full of taste, meaty in the falafel sense, fresh, and has incredible value!! Highly recommended if you're in the neighborhood!

After requesting to have it fried I was surprised to see it come out of a microwave. Considering it's also the same price as superbaba I would suggest that of you're looking for a falafel save your money and go elsewhere. Staff were polite and place was clean for what that's worth. Hope you chicken lovers find something decent but if falafel is what you're seeking this is a hard pass.

Probably the most disappointing falafel experience I've had in Vancouver. I had the Vegetarian…read morePlate and nothing tasted fresh. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were on the verge of being mushy (I ate them, but considered discarding them, and if they'd been any more mushy I would've thrown them out), the hummus was grainy, the pickled onions tasted kind of funky, the samosa wrapper was not crisp, the dolma filling was weirdly dense, the pita was store-bought and very thin (I recognize this is intentional and a style some people like, I just prefer a thicker pita for dipping). The toum was really good, but that did not make up for everything else going on. They get a second star from me because when I ordered I also bought a bottle of their ayran to drink later, and that did end up being pretty good, so I feel my rating should acknowledge that there was something that wasn't a complete miss. But I definitely wouldn't eat here again.

We haven't had it since the original experience in New York and this trip did not disappoint! Tasted like being in New York and trying it out for the first time again. I got a Combo sandwich with beef gyro and chicken. So yummy. A good portion of meat and the white sauce is to die for. Even got some of the baklava since we get a free dessert with entree after 8pm... delicious as well. We even came back again during that 4 night stay. We couldn't resist. Service was fast and great both times. We will be back again if ever in the area.

Follow your instinct. I didn't. Regret followed…read more I read the less than stellar reviews of this place but decided to give them a try anyhow...even though I had a feeling that I probably shouldn't. The service was friendly and the place was clean, but it was the food that obliterated any chance of me going back, or frankly of them being on the map of local mediterranean/middle eastern foods and competing successfully. I got the Beef Sandwich with added hummus, onions, bell peppers, white sauce and hot sauce to go. Their beef that is served and cooked on the vertical broiler typical of a shawarma style sandwich was extremely low quality....even for street food shawarma standards. It tasted like poor of the poor quality. My wrap was completely soaked in white sauce (see pic.) All I could taste was sauce, bread and bits of onion, and since I hadn't had anything for breakfast and this was my first meal....I'm hoping I won't get an upset stomach. Sauces of that nature almost all of the time have the bad types of oil...so we'll see. If you're still into that kinda fast food, lower quality....let's just indulge style of eating....then I'd suggest to get it "easy on the sauce", because mine was swimming in it. $17 later....White Sauce with a side of flat bread. .....I think I might have some Pepto Bismol in the cupboard.

It seems like they have tried to blow up the UBC location, and so even though things are a couple of dollars less expensive than at the Broadway location, the portion sizes are smaller. I also find that the food at the UBC location is often dry and or cold and it's not nearly as fresh as the Broadway location. For the donair, chicken, and shawarma meat, for example, they cut it off and set it in trays which are then set on the back counter in the back of the restaurant, not on a warmer. Warmer. This means that when you get your food the meat is usually lukewarm at best. This is very different than the Broadway location where everything is kept in warming trays. The women who work behind the counter and handle the cash register also wear gloves that they do not change. You can observe them handling cash and interacting with customers and handling trash containers, and then they'll go grab somebody's pita shell and stick their gloves in the lettuce and tomatoes and make a sandwich. That's just nasty.
