Still my favourite falafel/shawarma place after all these years. Still family run. Still a hole in the wall and still in need of a good scrub. Same friendly-ish crew still serving up food with a smile. And yes; the food is still excellent with reasonable prices. The falafels are homemade and delicious as is the tabouleh. If you're hungry with a good appetite hit up a falafel plate, it's delicious - say yes to the hot sauce. 5*s because I'm still here once every few months even after all these years. I'm giving this place a 1 because in my opinion the food was poor, the service was lacking and health and safety measures were not taken. I ordered the Lamb Wrap. The first thing I noticed was that she was not wearing gloves. She was wearing gloves on one hand but not both. I'm assuming that one glove was for handling money. I personally am not comfortable with anyone's bare hands touching my food directly, and specially with the whole pandemic thing still going on. So, that for me was a big turn off. She didn't ask me which ingredients I wanted on my wrap. I mean how unusual?! She just put all the ingredients on my wrap. What if I had an allergy? What if I didn't want tomatoes?! The whole thing was just surreal. She ignored us the whole time we were standing there while making our wrap with her bare hands. I just hope that they were clean! Once we got home and I had a taste of the wrap it tasted very bland. The lamb was dry and tasted like plastic and the hummus was ...well...grainy, unsalted and miserable. The pita bread was not a quality pita bread, so it started to fall apart half way through the wrap. Just a little juice from the tomatoes was dissolving the pita. Not good. I love middle eastern/mediterranean food and have had many many different types of shawarma wraps all over and this was one of the poorest I've had. If you know your wraps and love your lamb, skip this place. read more

This is how you do shawarma RIGHT. Not only was this meal cheap, but everything was high quality. The chicken was SO TENDER, flavourful and saucy, paired with a fresh tabouleh salad and a generous dollop of hummus. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the white rice, I wish there were different rice options that weren't so plain. I'll definitely come back again when I'm in the city! read more

My favourite shawarma sandwich spot in Downtown hands down! Great spot for a grab-and-go lunch. Looks a little run-down, but don't let its dark and minimal appearance fool you on the food quality. Recommend grabbing the food to-go and maybe heading over to Library Square. I probably wouldn't recommend sitting in because it's a pretty small store front and sometimes the line to order/pay wraps around the 2ish tables in the store. There are a couple of small tables outside as well, which can be a nice spot for a summer day. The menu is pretty small - maybe 5 or 6 items, but they do them all well! Usually I get the shawarma sandwich, which is usually a recipe for food coma. I love how juicy the meat is, while still having crispy parts to it. Definitely using a good mix of dark and white meats from the chicken. They keep 3 roasters going and make an effort to keep it warm by using aluminum foil to keep in the heat. They carve a small amount at a time, which I think is why I always get meat with a nice crisp to it. Other ingredients in the sandwich include tomatoes, lettuce, tabouleh, hummus, garlic sauce, hot sauce - pretty standard ingredients. The shawarma meat is definitely the star of the show. Servings are generous for around $8. Definitely appears to be family-run business. I always see the same 2-3 faces that are always extremely friendly and take pride in what they do. This place is good but it can be great with few changes like grilling the wrap or heating it. Another thing that can make a huge difference is the option of a few toppings to put in the wrap. It was more of meat and very less veggies. At few places they have option to even add fries inside the wrap or take fries or poutine on the side. I think having options just serves customer the best to cater as per their taste and hunger . One of my favourite places on Robson to grab a quick to go bite. I've always opted for either the falafel plate or the sandwich. The portions are huge! Food coma alert! And under $10 which is great value especially given the location. The sandwich comes in a large pita pocket. The falafels themselves are the size of a fist almost and you get 3 in a wrap. They line the wrap with a delicious hummus spread, topped with lots of lettuce cucumbers pickled radish and tomatoes, and some tabuleh. You can add banana peppers for some kick and then 2 sauces go on top. Every time they roll it up, I wonder how it's done. There's just soooo much filling!! Won't leave here hungry that's for sure. read more

If you're looking for great Mediterranean wraps, look no further! The falafel king not only makes a mean falafel but they also have delicious chicken shawarma. These wraps are packed with flavourful juicy meat without the major mess that most wraps bring. They have a full proof method on how to wrap these up in a mess free way! The veggies are always fresh and although I have yet to try a platter, they always look quite delicious (but what can I say? I'm a wrap addict...). I wouldn't normally say that a shawarma wrap or a falafel wrap is a good on the go food but the falafel king is one you can trust while walking and eating. read more

Had the shwarma sandwich today for the first time. The owner is very nice and the food is good. They are generous with the chicken and the shwarma is delicious. I tried Falafel King for the first time today after passing the storefront countless times throughout the years. I've always known that it was there but I never stepped in. Even when I was on that block looking for a lunch, I would usually opt for a viet banhmi sub next door or japadog. It wasn't that I didn't like shawarma wraps or Mediterranean food, but everyone has a go-to shawarma place and I just never diverged from my own.... until today. Today I finally decided to give Falafel King a shot because I just didn't have enough time to travel down Granville Street to my usual shawarma/falafel place. The location is convenient but you pay for it with the price. I'm use to shawarma wraps being closer to the $6-$7.50 range so I was pretty surprised when we were nearing $9. Service was quick and relatively friendly albeit a tad uncomfortable that there were so many people behind the counter staring at the one customer (me) - but I guess they'll be prepared for long lineups. The chicken filling was perfectly done. It has that crisp on the sides that some shawarma establishments neglect in attempts to make the chicken appear or taste healthier, but Falafel King has the rotisserie down perfect and the chicken was delicious. My only, but perhaps biggest, regret at Falafel King, however, is that the wraps aren't toasted - which is a major no-no for me. I understand a lot of shawarama establishments also don't toast their wraps but that extra toast just makes everything so much tastier for me. It's possibly a personal preference, so if you're ok with no toasting - Falafel King is for you. The vegetables that you get to choose and salads are a tad limited in my preference but if you're ok with just the usuals then you're fine. All in all, Falafel King was good ... just not as good as my usual go-to place. I recommend it if you're in a pinch and down Robson looking for a shawarma wrap. It's definitely a lot better than the place across the street in my view but hey - try it all out and see what you like for yourself! read more

For a Chinese person, I have always loved falafel wrap ever since tasting it for the first time back in university days in 2005. Given so many restaurants that serve shawarma and falafel plates/wraps in Vancouver, this is one of the best falafel wraps I have had (I am a huge meat eater but I always opt for falafel over the meat option) Falafel king has a super friendly owner who is chat friendly :D The wrap itself had super fresh tasting tabouleh, the falafel are nice, big, fat, and round. The biggest falafel I have eaten so far in Vancouver, the taste is also excellent. I asked to have it spicy and it was. The wrap itself was full of taste, meaty in the falafel sense, fresh, and has incredible value!! Highly recommended if you're in the neighborhood! read more

2 stars because the chicken in itself is actually delicious (flavourful & juicy). Otherwise it was a terrible experience. Didn't ask what I wanted in my shawarma, I went ahead and still told him what I wanted and didn't - but he seemed unbothered by it and kept ignoring my requests. I eventually gave up and figured I'd eat what he'd give me. Also falafel were good sure, but again hot sauce all over it when I specifically said no hot sauce. Ok then. The $10 for the 4 falafel were also not justified. Also why did the falafel have to be dripping in hummus? Overall you eat what you're given, not what you want. Simple steps such as "would you like hot sauce? Would you like your falafel dry or drowned?" would make costumers happy. Quality is good, service isn't. read more

I came here on a cold winter day to feed my hunger with delicious platter as when the weather is cold I need a big portion to feel full. The location is very convenient as it's on Robson Street but very small inside so not the best when it comes to dining in. The service was friendly and quick but nothing to brag about. I tried the chicken platter, which although not too greasy lacked any special flavours. The side salad was also not using the freshest ingredients. If you are looking for a fast food type of platter to go, this is a reasonable option but I wouldn't go out of my way to necessarily try this place out. read more

Came here the other day for dinner and although the food was good, the owner (I think he was the owner), was not following COVID protocols. First of all, he wasn't wearing a mask while making my food and he was talking to me while he was cooking my food so I was scared his spit would land on my food. I noticed he ran out of the salad so he went to the back to cut up some produce but did not wash it (this is NOT food safe). He also microwaved my rice and meat, so it's not fresh. If you've been to The Halal Guys (even the one in Toronto), don't set your expectations too high for Falafel King. But it's still pretty decent. I went during my lunch hour from work and when I arrived at the shop, there were already five people ahead of me in line. The place didn't exactly have the nicest ambience, as it was very tight and a bit disorganized. Imagine something like a food court stall. But that didn't really matter because I, like everyone else, was placing a take-out order. Like a lot of these Mediterranean food shops, the menu was limited to about 7-8 items consisting of sandwiches, wraps, and plates. I opted for the Shawarma plate and noticed that everyone was ordering the same thing. You could tell this place had some credibility. My food was packed in a container with three compartments containing some zesty parsley salad, a scoop of hummus, and a very generous portion of chicken Shawarma over rice. This might have been the most meat I've received for an order like this. I was also given the white and hot sauces over the Shawarma. It came to $10 after tax. The taste was quite good. For $10, this meal was definitely worth it. The shop is run by a man and his daughter, and they are both very friendly. I noticed that the owner would always address me as 'boss' and wished me a great day and a nice weekend as I paid and left. I wouldn't call Falafel King extraordinary, but I would come here without hesitation if I ever had any trouble deciding what to eat for lunch. I'll be back soon. read more

This is a tough one... The food is really awesome and I cant believe how amazing that falafel wrap tasted ... But the moment we walked in to the shop the aroma of dirty bathroom permiated the air. The owner was so lovely and we still bought one wrap as we didn't wish to be rude. Its a small store and there are places to sit but as the smell was so nauseating I didn't wish to stay myself. the Vladimir Krutov of Vancouver Shwarma. around 8:30pm, i stopped in to grab a chicken plate, which i've done many times over the last ten years at Falafel King. dude cut some chicken from the spit -- but then put it in a bowl and microwaved it for two minutes. he disappeared into the back and came out with a plastic container of rice before loading up my takeout box with salad, hummus, sauces, pita. the rice was mushy and clumpy, bordering on wet, while the meat was unforgivably bland (possibly due to being nuked?). somehow this unholy combination neutralized any zing the sauces might have brought, and the entire meal came off like an over-cooked $2 no-name microwave meal. read more

Had the best Shawarma Plate here! My group and I were walking around looking for a place to eat and ran into Falafel King. We walked in, quickly ordered our food, and were on our way to enjoy our meal... that is, until I unfortunately dropped my plate all over the table, seat and floor. I was served so much food that the paper plate just couldn't handle it! I was so embarrassed, I asked the owner for something I could use to pick up my mess, but to no avail. Instead, the owner insisted he pick up the food without charging me a dime. He happily remade the food and I happily gave a nice tip. Needless to say, the food was fantastic. I was heading towards the arena for a hockey game and my tummy was growling for food. I decided on a falafel plate. The guy working there was kinda friendly but a lil strange at the same time. Here is where it goes downhill; i didn't see the guy wash his hands. he was sitting a a table with another guy, stood up to help me without washing his hands, grabbed a handful of falafels with his bare hands and put them in the microwave. While the falafels were in the microwave, he was preparing the plate with hummus, tabolueh, etc and touching the food a bit too much with his bare UN-WASHED hands. The microwave beeped, he opened the door of the microwave only for me to see how filthy gross it was inside and the falafel patties were not on a plate or even a disposable liner!! Blaghhhh....barf!! I hadn't paid yet, thank god! I turned around to leave and he starts yelling at me "hey, hey, what are you going? blah blah" and i I yelled back at him saying his food handling methods are unsanitary and I refuse to pay and eat for something that can potentially make me ill! I visit this shop on a regular basis for lunch. Good place for a chicken shwarma plate or donair. Their chicken tastes very juicy and delicious compared to other donair shops around town and they give you a lot of meat. When the owner works by himself it can get very busy/slow but thankfully he's getting some extra help these days at the front counter which helps speed things up. Overall this is a great little family run spot for a quick shwarma meal, tastes great and portions are sizeable. The humus is delicious as well. Recommended! read more

We walk by this place almost every time we are downtown and I always am tempted to try it because I like donairs. I made the decision to try it out. I thought about the falafel as it is called falafel king but the shawarma picture looked good. By the way, this place only takes cash or debt - almost an embarrassing situation, but I managed to scrounge enough cash. Anyways, it was ok. The worst falafel ever. I asked for one falafel pita roll. Without cleaning his hand, the man grabbed the falafel and shoved them in a microwave. The falafel tasted like dough and chewy. I should have rejected the roll when he used tge microwave, but I didnot want to be rude. I took one bite and the rest went in the trash outside the restaurant.
