My wife and my kids went for lunch on her lunch break, her chicken fried steak came without gravy, and they forgot her salad. So we figured she could at least eat her baked potatoe. Found out that wasn't cooked and was hard throughout. Then the Santa Fe burger failed to mention that the top bun would be drowning in thick mayo AND a guacamole. The one thing I know the little ones would eat for sure, the fries. Well not this time, I don't blame them the sucked. On the plus side, the onion rings were great. Excellent experience at Best Burger Barn. Place was pretty busy but didn't have to wait long for food. Service was quick and friendly. Great value on menu items. If you love onion rings I highly recommend them. I didn't see anything on the menu that I wouldn't try, which made it hard to pick something. You can't go wrong with whatever menu item you order in my opinion. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Don't waste you time and hard earned money. Absolutely the worst burger I have ever had, I would probably chalk it up to an off night but after eating here and seeing how the so called staff works and the very bland flavor of the burgers I pretty much ran out the door, and in my case that a miracle because I am handicapped and can't run. We were impressed! First visit to Best Burger Barn in Egan & we both were pleased & impressed. We were told it's the original & the waitresses could not have been any nicer. We ordered the catfish (all you can eat on Fridays) & the Fatlady burger & both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The catfish was piping hot, huge & tasty & definitely a crowd pleaser. My wife is a burger aficionado & she said it was delicious, but other burgers eaten at other BBB location was also quality. I doubt she'll try anything other than a burger when eating here as she said she's found some of the best in this area. Just paid 15.99 for their AYCE catfish dinner; complete rip-off for soggy, limp fries, nasty coleslaw, and a couple of indifferent, poorly seasoned fillets. My wife and I decided to visit this location after several friends working around Burleson and Alvarado ordering take out told us how great the burgers were. We drove 25 minutes to have a great meal from a place that was well referred. Upon arrival the exterior looks awesome. Stepping out of the truck the situation and environment starts to change from there. Directly after stepping out of the truck we can over hear two employees complaining about shifts on the front deck. However, my wife and I blew it off knowing that this is a hard time for everyone and especially workers in the food industry. After entering the place everyone seemed friendly and we chose a booth in the back section. The server that came to ask us what we would like to drink started with a lot of attitude towards us for no reason. Which we again brushed it off. After returning with our drinks and asking if we were ready to order started acting like she didn't want to be there and quite sharp and uncaring in all of her responses. Which upset my wife more than me because she was rushing my wife to respond by not even making eye contact was looking at the paper and acting like she was about to walk off. When the appetizer was ready, that is where is really started to upset us. As she was walking by she gently tossed the tomatoes on the table as she was walking. If was very rude. However she was acting polite with the table across from us. The gentleman that brought the burgers out to us was very polite and made sure we were taken care of. My wife and I do not require 5 star service by any means. This is the first review I have ever left. The food was fantastic, but I will not put money I worked hard for into a company that makes me feel as my wife and I were a burden to you. This place was lost our business. I have lived in this area for 30 years, I didn't know this place existed until a couple months ago. By far the best cheese burger I have had in years. Very juicy and tender. It was fresh off the grill as were the fries. Very friendly staff. My dog was happy, they brought him a big piece of bacon. I will be back. read more

The Burger Barn never fails to offer up some of the best food in the area. Went for their famous Burger. Ended up with Catfish. Perfectly done, flakey, was a a good choice for something instead of a burger. Bullet was happy, he was given a treat, not bacon, but a sausage patty. So two paws up from him. Only complaint, your coleslaw is to dry for me, I couldn't tell if it had dressing on it. Of course Bullet and I will be back. read more

Fun atmosphere, bad food! Maybe it was what ordered. If I had ordered a burger it may have been good hence their name. I ordered catfish not knowing they had all you can eat the night before. I have been a customer at this restaurant since it first opened, and the owner Byron Rose was its only employee. To this day, you can't find a better burger in Johnson County. The location has grown to a pretty good sized restaurant, with menu items that are rare and delicious. read more

Today was my 4th time to eat at this hidden gem. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review... maybe it's because subconsciously I want to keep it a secret. Today, I had the bacon cheese burger and a basket of fries. And, as usual, it was way too much food for me to finish in one sitting. The burger was super juicy and tasty. The fries are amazing. They are hand cut and fried - not the prefab fries you get at McDonald, Burger King, etc. - and wonderfully seasoned. What I like most about this place is the variety of meat. I've tried the buffalo burger and Elk burger. Both were super delicious! Warning: Don't order the chicken fried steak unless you're super hunger. That thing alone is half the size of the plate. It's so big you can cut it in half and turn it into two meals. If you're ever this way, I highly recommend to stop in the middle of Nowhere (Egan), TX. I promise you. We are new to the area and heard a lot of people recommend Burger Barn. My husband, daughter, and I came in and waited by the bar for nearly 10 minutes. There was no sign indicating if we could seat ourselves or should wait to be seated. The waitstaff would make eye contact, but when we tried to approach for information, they would rush off. We decided to seat ourselves and waited another 15 minutes at the table without a single 'Hello' or 'We will be right with you' from the staff constantly present in our area. I don't know if we were being ignored because we weren't one of the business people having meetings or if it was because my husband was the only person of color in the establishment, but it left a bad taste in our mouths. After numerous attempts to get service, and the staff going out of their way to ignore us, we got up and left. What a waste of time and gas. I will never recommend this location to friends, or the guests at the hotel I work at. read more

Please come back OLD BURGER BARN!! I hate to pile on due to Covid and all, but the food was horrible. Ordered 4 burgers and 2 of them had buns so soggy we couldn't even eat it. Servings for fries and onion rings were ridiculous even though I ordered baskets. Literally 5 onion rings, fries were greasy. Here's a hint: for natural cut fries, you have to cook them twice! I don't know what to say about the Armadillo ball, not balls like it used to be. I'll just say this..barely any jalapeño, no cheese and worst of all the chicken was so hard my dogs had a hard time chewing it after I gave it to them. I'm not mad, just extremely disappointed that another good restaurant has fallen so far. You can trust this review because I'm being more than fair. Do not order from this restaurant until you see under new management at the very least. One last thing..I did not complain or ask for my money back. I have realized it does absolutely no good over my 49 years here on earth. This place is awesome ! I had a cheeseburger and fries. It was almost more than I could eat, and really delicious. The fries are hand-cut fries and some of my favorites that I've ever had. This is a place you need to experience. It was originally built as a car wash and converted to a restaurant. Very interesting. Very clean. I will eat there every time I get the chance. This cool little burger joint located in Egan, TX,operated by the very personable Byron Rose really impressed me. The juicy burgers are handmade fresh and remind one of the hamburgers of yesteryear before the chains took over with their prepared cardboard versions of the great all American hamburger, Byron enjoys spending time with his customers chatting with them in the shaded picnic area next to the business adding a rare personal touch to one's dining experience. Tucked away on the side of FM917 in rural Johnson County the Burger Barn would be easy to miss. At first glance it appears to be just another run of the mill "hole in the wall". But first impressions can be deceitful. If you like burgers in a friendly, laid back atmosphere this is the place for you. The wait staff is attentive and fun. The atmosphere is about as far from formal and stuffy as you can possibly get - even for Texas, and the burgers will not disappoint. I didn't count exactly, but the menu contained at least 20 specialty burger selections. Each selection is a 1/3 lb. burger with a variety of unique toppings. Although the burger entree does not include a side such as fries, the prices are very reasonable even after adding fries extra. My choice was the "Bacon Bleu" burger. This is a 1/3 lb burger with bacon and bleu cheese. If desired it also comes with all the typical vegi fixins on top. It was just the right amount of bleu cheese to give a great flavor without being overwhelming. The fries were crisp and tasty also. The Burger Barn features Karaoke as well as live entertainment including an Elvis act on various nights. All in all a fun place to get a great meal at a reasonable price. My family and will never darken the door of this place ever again. We went to celebrate my daughters birthday last night and when we pulled into the parking lot, we realized the owner was the person driving a Ford truck with a utility trailer on it which was the same vehicle that almost ran us off the road a few minutes before arriving at the restaurant. My husband approached the owner and told him he almost ran us off the road. The owner proceeded to cuss out my husband and said that if he wanted to run us off the road, he would of made sure he ran us off the road. My husband said we had our grandbaby in the car and the owner said he doesn't "give a f@@@" and that our grandbaby was no more important than anyone else's kid. We said we will no longer do business with him and his colorful language continued. I went to the front of the restaurant to take a picture of the establishment because I was going to share our experience on social media. The owner came towards me telling me I had 30 seconds to get off his property. All the while he was taking the lid off his large soft drink and took a stance as if he was going to throw his drink on me. As I walked to our car, the owner followed me and then took a picture of our license plate. My husband asked him why he did that and the owner said "so I know where you live". We took that as a threat. In the meantime the owner asked his old man friend to go get his gun. The old man came back with a shot gun. We left and drove next door to the mobile station and waited for the police. I have never in my life been treated like that by anyone let alone the owner of a business. And the language he used and the names he called us in front of my daughter and grand daughter is inexcusable. read more
