This review is long overdue. I have been coming here for several years- primarily for alterations. The seamstresses and Lee do amazing work. They are very busy (good for them) so it's helpful to plan accordingly, but I have definitely asked for small jobs to be completed within a quick turnaround, and they have always accommodated. In July I was there picking up a piece and a woman came in and wanted to pick up her clothes. Unfortunately they were not ready. She started yelling at Lee- almost abusively- and he tried to explain that he was short staffed b/c his employees wanted to have a vacation with the families before school started. He apologized profusely and she was yelling over him - I felt horrible for him. He was reminding her that she continuously wants things altered and he always get her pieces done on time. She was incredibly rude and showed such little respect for this business owner. (insert "privilege" here) Honest and integrity are engrained in this business - highly recommended. read more

This has been my family's go-to spot for alterations for many, many years. +Brought my wedding season suit here, and now it fits like a glove. +Then when it was time for my wedding, I brought my light linen pants (wedding in humid Belize, linen was a must) here for a final fitting. Lee always does a great job and finishes his work on time. He delivers in the clutch. And that's huge when your fit and comfort are on the line. I just dropped off a pair of chinos to bring in the pant leg opening. I prefer a slimmer fit but have thicker thighs (#soccerthighs) so pants are usually really tight in the thigh and not quite narrow enough at the ankle. It costs $20 at BA for that...a price I'll gladly pay for the right fit. read more

I came in for first time on Wednesday. After putting on a few pounds over the years, I needed to let out a dress pants. I dropped off the pants on Wednesday morning and told them I absolutely need it on Thursday at 5. The tailor helping me promised they can do it. I call on Thursday afternoon just to check on progress and was told "Don't worry, it will be done by 5." I was running late and came in at 5:30pm. Guess what? The work was NOT done! The pants was opened up but not altered. I ask the tailor what happened and was basically told "shit happened". No apologies, just defiance. I had to wait for 20 minutes while they complete the alteration. Given the rush, the work was understandably sloppy. I was quoted $28 for letting out pants. They gave me a $5 discount for the wait. It was small consolation since I was late picking up my kids from day care and was charge a $20 late fee. I hate giving them a low rating, but wish they would not over promise in future. read more

For one of them, I showed him a photo of what I wanted it to look like, and he was able to tell me exactly what needed to be changed in order for it to meet my vision! I have been coming to Lee and Best Alterations for a few years. I am not even from this area and I will go all the way to San Jose for Lee to tailor my clothes. This already speaks volumes. I had Lee tailor several women's suits, costumes, pants, blouses, you name it. Sometimes I would find dresses that are way too big for me, and he'd tailor it down to my size. Lee helped me out in a pinch and helped create two bridesmaid gowns from scratch when David's Bridal failed me. He turned my man of honor's button down into a tuxedo shirt! Lee also tailored my Disney designer Alfred Angelo wedding gown and it turned out spectacular, it was so breathtaking! He put in a two way bustle too which was awesome! Lee is really good. I've been going to him for 6 years now. It's a deal when you can get your pants hemmed for $5 and get it the next day. But when I give him a stack of clothes, it takes about a week. I was a little dissapointed when I brought in my Guess skirt and asked him to make it a little bigger. I love coming here to get my pants fixed to fit my short legs. Totally affordable and quick turn around for alterations. 2 pairs of jeans for $10! Can't be that. My mom also takes my dad's pants here and has been for a number of years. Parking is always tricky in the small lot, so good luck. Another note: If you are taking your jeans in and want the original hem modified vs. a basic cut and hem job, TELL THEM BEFORE! The guy said he charges $15 since it would be a custom, but never told me prior to my pants getting hemmed. They came out ok, but the original hem might have looked better. This is the first time I came to this place, the previous place I used to take my clothes to fix, closed permanently since Covid. So I found this place. I got my wedding dress altered here. I needed the straps shortened and the bottom hemmed. It was a simple dress with no bodice or intricate detail/lace. It cost $260. Alterations were good, but the dress came back with so many loose colored threads that I had to pick out of the dress. Before I left the shop, I tried the dress on and noticed the threads holding the thin velvet belt around the waist of the dress were completely undone. I asked that the belt be sewed back onto the dress securely before I took it home. It only took a few minutes. For how much I paid, I would expect for my clothing to be returned to me in good shape, especially my wedding dress. read more

I got about 10 pairs of pants altered here prior to a trip back in May. Just the length taken up. One pair of booty shorts that were high waisted that needed the waist to be taken in a bit so that they where tighter and more corset like for me. I was completely impressed with my pants. Like others had said about the original hem costing more, I didn't have that experience. The hemming cost me $5 like stated nothing more and nothing less. Le is a busy man...VERY VERY BUSY. I decided to check this out due to some of the reviews left on Yelp and I was just tired of going to my lady back in Milpitas for my pants. So after coming here on a Sunday to find that the place was closed and returning the next day. I was surprised to find one of my old clients from a Los Gatos salon I used to work at. She was getting a bunch of Rock & Republics tailored and she knew the owner with ease. Which made me feel a little more trusting to let him touch my Diesel jeans. Lord knows I would kick his ass if he f'ed them up. The end of the story is that everything worked out fine. I definitely will come back again to have him alter my pants. This place should be called "Worst Alterations"! Took my clothes here for dry cleaning and on the day I'm supposed to pick it up, it wasn't even there. Lee (the owner) said to come back in 2 days. When I finally got it back, my white pants and white sweater wasn't white anymore. It had dark spots all over (like how you mix your white clothes with something red and it came out pink). I was really disappointed with the service I received and also the rest of my other items...it smelled like mildew! Never going back! This place doesn't even deserve a one star. read more

When I first went to Best Alterations, I thought they were awesome, $5 hem, and $12 if you want to keep the original seam. For someone who's short like I am and pretty much needs to hem everything, what could be better, right? Unfortunately, while the work is usually of a reasonable quality, they have quite a bit of trouble living up to their service agreements. Once, I brought in a pair of jeans to be hemmed and they told me to come back some number of days later. So I came back and it wasn't done, and they told me to come back in another 2 days. This happened again when I brought in my sweatshirt to be patched up. The killing blow for this place, that is, why I won't be coming back, was when I brought my Kate Spade purse in to have the broken strap repaired. It was a simple enough job, the stitching had come undone so I asked them NOT to glue it, but to sew it instead. The guy agreed and told me to come back in 5 days. When I came back, they (of course) were not done, however, I saw my poor little $300 purse being squished under a bunch of somebody else's clothes. The next time I came back, they STILL had not finished my purse. The third and final time I came back, they had not finished my purse, and when I started to complain, the lady working at the counter asked me to wait, GLUED THE STRAP and charged me $10. When I got into the car, I noticed that she dropped a bit of glue on the fabric of my purse so now it has a permanent stain. No thanks, I won't be back. read more

We used to get our alterations done on time and with no problem. Today I went to pickup my dry cleaning stuff that was to be ready 2 days ago and after THREE ladies searched for it (for quite a long time) all they said was "come back". I had to do all the thinking for them. I asked them when should I come back? They did not answer. They tried to call their boss on the phone a few times. I did not YELL because they are just 3 little ladies that don't know much and I can barely understand what they say, except "come back" and "sorry sir". I'll go back later today as they suggest when the guy is there. I want my dry cleaning items or I want cash payment for them or I will see them in court. I've NEVER even heard of a cleaners business losing all the items I gave to them. I will not ever go there again for anything. read more

Despite living 3000 miles away now, I still bring all of my alterations here. I schlep my unraveled hems and too-long pants across the continental US, paying the $25 luggage fee to Continental to have them fixed at Best Alterations. 3 stars because they are cheap and fast but every once in a while, they make something shorter than I like (this happens maybe 1 out of every 5 items I bring). I'm not completely sure if maybe I just wasn't clear or if they made a mistake but they do have a guarantee on their work but I'm much too lazy (and now too far) to bring something back to be fixed within a reasonable amount of time. I keep coming back because I love that it's on the way to my favorite dog park and I can drop stuff off, take my dog to socialize with other furry beings, and pick up my stuff on the way back. They also don't mind the dog coming in to the store (though my dog is a chihuahua and comes with me into the changing room)! ---------- *Screw you, Continental. Look all I know if my husband has a leather blazer, it's like butter not a cheap piece of leather by any stretch of the imagination! The problem is that it fit him perfectly when he was XL but now he has lost a ton of weight and this beautiful blazer no longer fit. He took it here and the owner explained that he would have to tear it down completely and put it back together. My husband didn't care because it was as good as gone anyway so do whatever. My husband (who is more patient than I) did not bother this owner for almost 2 mos!...like I said he is way more patient than I. All I can say is that you would never know this was an XL now turned into something between M and L. It fits perfectly! I think I'll try to take a picture because you won't believe it. I have to give this place credit. My mom was a seamstress so I know what to look for and this job is really well done. The lining is back in place and you can't even tell that it was taken apart, cut and stitched back together. My husband had also taken my kid's pants here to be taken in around the waist and I should have known from that work that the jacket would be OK. Again...mom was a seamstress so I know what a good job looks like. So be patient and be nice about it. If he was rude all I can say is what did you do? Some people expect service providers to lick their boot. Be for real and treat people with respect to get it. read more

my mom's coworker recommended this place. thank god because i was tired of paying $10+ for getting my jeans hemmed. i have to get all my pants hemmed because of my short little legs, and this place is great. im not sure of his name, but the front counter person, he's always friendly and greets you with a smile. they've also renovated the inside, so its very bright and clean. i pay $5 for my pants to be hemmed! FIVE DOLLARS! i havent paid that cheap since living in the OC and finding those special gem places. although this isn't for the original lining, im not one to care. they're also really quick, if you tell them you need it asap, they'll have it done for you. ive also received a pair that was still too long, and he did it again for free. highly recommend this place! read more

$5 hemming. or $12 for original hem. What more could you ask for? I bring all of my jeans here to be hemmed and have yet to run into an issue. My boyfriend brought in a suit (for his brother's wedding) to be taken in that was one size too big and Best Alteration's did an ah-mazing job. You would have never been able to tell that the suit had been altered. It fit like a glove.
