Called for a blow out while visiting from out of town. Irma worked with me to find a time that worked. She was prompt, friendly and fairly priced. Will be calling anytime I'm here again. read more

Needed a last minute haircut so called Bertha who got me in within 30min in the morning. Talked me through what she was going to do, and gave me a lovely haircut and blow dry. She's on the second floor of the eye society building. You just find her in the directory, call on the touchpad and she'll open the door of the building for you. She takes Venmo, which makes it an easy payment! I'm definitely coming back. read more

Phenomal experience! Bertha is so sweet and outstanding at what she does. She was very detail oriented in creating the perfect curls (had a curly perm!) I have naturally stick straight hair and it turned out looking very natural! Many people I've known for many years thought I had been straightening my hair this whole time!! Not even joking! I will definitely be going back! read more

Well, what more can I say after reading all the glowing reviews about Bertha? Guess what...I can and MUST! I had to look for a stylist to cut the hair of an family member with limited mobility: on a Sunday and very short notice. Bertha was incredibly kind and literally went out of her way to make it happen. She is the ultimate professional with a heart of GOLD. Our family is so grateful to her. I'm going to refer everyone I know to see Bertha for their beauty and styling needs! read more

Bertha crushed it. Me and my other male friend walked in with out an appointment and she was able to see us both quickly. She was extremely friendly and did a stellar job cutting our hair. The hair cut included a complementary hair wash with shampoo. Prices were reasonable especially given the quality of service. read more

Been coming to get my hair cut with Bertha for the past 3 years. Amazing results each time. Staff is super friendly, highly recommend.

THE BEST haircut i have ever gotten. Bertha is incredibly kind and personable and the amount of detail she puts into the cuts is impeccable. 10/10 read more

Bertha and Irma are amazing! I loved chatting with them both. I wanted to get rid of my dead ends but keep the length and Irma delivered on both. She also styled my hair perfectly--it lasted in Chicago's summer humidity. They were able to fit me in very last minute. The salon itself was clean and bright and easy to find. It is located in Streeterville yet the prices are kept reasonable. I found my new regular spot! read more

Bertha is a rockstar. We are visiting here from Florida for a convention and my hair was a mess. The minute I sat in her chair I knew she was a pro. Thank you Bertha for taking such great care of me. read more

Bertha was able to get us in the same day, did a great job on my kids' haircuts and very modestly priced.

Bertha's is, to me, why Yelp matters. Here is a little independent shop on the 9th floor of the Tribune Tower. It would be very difficult to find on your own, and if you did, you'd want some information before making an appointment. Well, I got that information and made an appointment and I certainly am glad I did. The experience was perfect. The cut was perfect and above and beyond with the beard trim, etc. It was a family affair and I even got a hug from Bertha when I left. If that weren't enough, I spent much less than what I normally spend at my local salon. So I will definitely be back. read more

Had my first visit there today, and it was a post-quarantine cut. Joel took me right on time. She listened and took her time and really included me in the process. I am extremely happy with the haircut and the care shown there regarding all the precautions we have to deal with. So happy to have found this salon in my neighborhood. read more

Lovely place. Maintained very well. Wearing masks and gloves all the time. Clean and neat. Irma did such an amazing job. She asked me what I wanted, clarified and delivered exactly what I wanted. Checked if I was satisfied. Prices are good and worth it. So glad I was recommended this place. read more

Bertha is a 5 star! I've been in Chicago for almost a year, trying out different salons, but couldn't find any that were worth the money. Bertha is definitely the best I've met, and has a fair price. My search has ended. She's located in the Tribune tower, 9th floor. Give her a visit - you won't regret it! read more

This place is a gem! Bertha has been cutting hair for 30 years! The salon is nothing fancy but she will take her time and always gives me that confident look! Love love her and her staff! Irma did my nails and she's very sweet! Great foot and leg massage for a great price. Cash only. read more

I wish this had more stars to give! I called Sunday at noon and was in Berta's chair by 2:30! On a SUNDAY! My hair looked beautiful and I was so happy! I am from FL so I just googled and this salon showed up. Bertha was so nice and made me feel special. Her husband was there and the NFL was on the TV. I felt like I was home, we watched the game chatted about sports, the military (THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SERVICE) and the surprise 70th party I was headed too. I can't say enough great things about this experience! A small, yet wonderful personal salon! read more

Great women's haircut! The woman took extra time to make sure the amount of length I wanted cut was correct. Highly recommended

Bertha and Irma recently moved to 230 E Ohio St, suite 212, just a few blocks from tribune tower. Great new space with the awesome service we're used to. read more

I am in Chicago for a work conference and was looking for somewhere to get a quick blow out. Everyone in the area had awful reviews except Bertha's. I called at 4 pm and she was able to fit me in for 6 same day. Jordania did my hair. I saw her do a blow out on the previous customer and it was so pretty I was happy to have her do mine. Also ended up getting a much needed hair cut there. She took her time and hair came out great! She and Bertha were so sweet. If I lived here this would be my go to place! read more

This place is absolutely horrendous. If you care at all what your hair looks like DO NOT come here. She literally looks like a kid grabbing scissors for the first time and chopping away. Please avoid this place read more

This is my first yelp review ever, simply because my experience here was so wonderful, it blew me away. I got my hair cut by Alma who couldn't have been more patient or kind. I was changing styles and my hair is really hard to cut since it is so wild and wavy, but she did a great job. One hour later i was looking in the mirror and i decided i made a mistake and i'd like to go a little shorter so i called back and she took me right away. Not only was she extremely accomodating, but she Absolutely NAILED IT. This is the best i have looked in almost ten years. I would hive this a 10 out of 5 if i could. As if it could t get any better... Both she and the owner refused profusely that i would pay again or even tip- i tried but they kept insisting no! I will be back every month from here on. Thank you Bertha's and thank you Alma, this place is absolutely top notch! read more

Called late morning for an afternoon appointment and Bertha got me in! Irma gave me a GREAT, quick, precise haircut. The salon is clean and they are practicing Covid precautions. I will definitely be back as they do color too. They are walking distance from my job, which is very convenient. Thank you Irma, I love my haircut! read more

Bertha was awesome!! She spent nearly 30min making sure my haircut was perfect and exactly as I wanted. Extremely friendly and professional - we chatted the entire time. Will definitely be coming back - over Floyd's - but it sounds like she is moving out of the Tribune tower soon! :( Hopefully not too far! A+ Thank you - Kyle read more

I love this place! They're super friendly, very professional and remember everything about how I like my hair cut. The care they put into their work can't be touched by the big chain places. Adding in low prices and free beard trims makes this this my favorite hair cut place in Chicago. read more

What a great find! I called to ask the price and was surprised it was only $20 for a basic haircut. I made an appointment for 30 minutes later, and when I walked into Bertha's small area (with a nice waiting room) I was impressed with the simplicity of it all - right on the Mag Mile. When she saw my relative lack of hair she gave me $5 off - unsolicited. I'll go back regularly and tell others about it. Bertha has a nice manner and personality, she makes it easy and convenient. It's on the 9th floor of the Tribune Tower and you have to sign in with security, but it's all smooth and easy. Plus, it's a nice building to walk through. read more

Trying a new salon in Chicago was pretty intimidating but Bertha's salon could not have been better in how well it catered to everything I wanted. Joel is so amazingly nice that you'll feel right at home with her. And the vibe here is both chic and homely at the same time. I can't thank Joel and Bertha enough for my first post-covid haircut. Choose these guys!!!!! read more

Found this on yelp as I was looking for a haircut place near me that was NOT a chain. First cut is 15 from her website offer and I think normal price is 20 after that. Convenient location if you work or live off Michigan Ave. Bertha was very friendly and gave a great cut. read more

After I complimented a friend on how great her hair looked, she told me about Bertha. I filed away the information and then decided to give her a try. I am so glad I did. Bertha more than lives up to her fine reputation. She is kind and delightful. She really cares about making her client happy and satisfied. I have had my hair cut at a number of very high-end salons and Bertha's work outshines them all. I am a more than happy and satisfied client. read more

Bertha's is one of the best barbershop in town! Not only is everyone so friendly there (just for that alone I would go back), but Bertha's also has the most professional barber and hair stylists. I've been getting my haircuts at Bertha's for a few years now, and they always do a great job. I tip big because they always know what I want, even when my visits are several months apart. Although my sessions are shorter now, both Bertha and Alma are as friendly and patient as ever, if I want something done differently. The location is very convenient if you live downtown, but keep in mind that you do need to sign in at the front desk to get to the elevators. The shop itself is small and cozy so you know you'll receive personal attention. read more

Great place!!!! Mens haircuts are $20, and you get to walk through a nice historic building. Bertha was great and I will definitely be back.
