BEWARE!!! Cheap prices and bad work. I hired Fernando to come trim two trees and remove one. I started to get worried when he started the day sitting in a corner of my yard on his phone, smoking a vape. Once he started to work, he made a sloppy looking cut on my pine tree. Then he started on the ash tree. He cut off huge sections at once that would swing down out of control. The first landed on my fence. The next few cuts brought huge limbs swinging into my house and damaging my new roof. I stopped the work and asked Fernando what we were going to do about all this damage. He asked me to go pick up materials and said he would fix my new roof and fence himself. After seeing his poor workmanship halfway into the day, I thought hiring him to do roofing work would be a very bad idea. ​I hired them to ​ trim my two twin 30 ft tall queen palm trees . (Very) Small Crew: A guy with, I think his very petite gf/wife) showed up to do the job... usually a TEAM (3-6) of men show up... so this was....uhhh .... different lol. They were relatively professional but only seem to speak Spanish. I don't speak that much Spanish but they somehow we were able to work together. Right to Work:The man did Not waste time ( I liked that!), he put on his belt and used his tree climbing skills right away, and Ryobi chainsaw to trim the limbs , which were quite a few. And I personally did about 50% of the work because I had to grab each 1 of these 110-150 lb limbs and make sure they didn't damage the property's yard or roses and carry each to the street. Why? In the past I would let tree cutters do everything on their own and they would totally WRECK my roses and shrubbery so this time I had to be 100% engaged, and active . We got the job done, it took about an hour and a half to 2 hours . Payment: Our property mgmt company pays for these types of services using our corporate credit card and Bernabe didn't seem to have an easy means by which to do that . So I tried to get them to use PayPal and or stripe or venmo.. he tried to take a card over the phone like it was 2003 lol and applepay, which most businesses would not use or have. it took a few days but eventually I just sent the payment via PayPal and it seemed to work perfectly fine, ngl there was a lot of back and forth just to pay them , I never had to work so hard to pay somebody before . Quality of Work: As far as the ​work and quality of work , it was good enough I would say primarily because I was there from start to finish to ensure it was done right . When I told the owner over the phone I did 1/2 the work (because there was NO WAY this petite older woman who came with the tree cutter could've done all the Heavy lifting I did) I thought the appropriate thing to do was discount the price, but he didn't even offer LOL. No big deal, but some discount would've been reasonable but i didn't press the issue because it looked like the couple could really use a good payday. So the worker and his wife/girlfriend were very nice and were easy to work alongside to get the job done. ​ Assessment: Even though I might use them again, I can't say this particular team is for the average tree cutting situation especially if u can't be actively involved in the process. Others wanted me to call in spite of the fact that I included pictures and was very specific with the needs. Some replied with quotes that were higher and one almost double. I would give a zero if I could. I paid extra money $1400 for them to remove or grind down the stumps of the trees so they wouldn't grow back. 9 months later and they are back ! I called so they can come fix the issue and I was told that if I pay for them to come do additional work in my back yard they would remove the trees for free...I already paid for this so why am I being blacked mailed for them to do the job they were originally paid for? My beautiful pepper tree died within the last couple of months. Fernando and his team quickly handled the tree removal, and the tree was HUGE. It was probably about 60 year old. They started work the same day Fernando came by with the estimate. Their price beat out others I had spoken to significantly. They pretty much finished the next day. Very satisfied customers here. First, Fernando went to our house twice to patiently talk to me and my husband about the job. His price was VERY reasonable. After we agreed on the price, his guys (5 of them) showed up at 7:30 the following morning and got the job done. Two hours and two trimmed trees later, my husband and I were very happy to part with our money (plus tip for those hardworking guys). Money well spent for sure. I was worried about bad reviews here about after-care but they actually left our front and backyard CLEANER THAN HOW THEY FOUND IT. I truly REGRET to hired Fernando Perez (Bernabe Tree Service) for tree trimming at my house. He presented himself as being dishonest, very cunning. I could give him MINUS in review if I can. Fernando is the worst of the worst worker I have hired in my entire life. 1) I did NOT ASK Fernando to trim my Bougainvillea Tree, but he completely chopped it off, left UGLY ghost house trees with broken dead branches, dead leaves hanging all over. Furthermore, he left/hid piles of tree branch debris and trashes behind of bushes. 2). Without my permission, he completely removed another Bougainvilla Tree from the root. It took over 10 hrs to grow. It is completely gone! 3) I did ASK him to trim the pine trees branches. I specifically ASKED HIM SEVERAL TIMES to call me to check before he comes down to the ground which he DIDN'T. HE LEFT UNFINISHED. I found several dead branches still hanging. So, I asked him to cut 3 more pine tree branches before he leaves. (Those branches have been shedding a lot of needles into the pool). He said YES, but he DIDN'T & went home. 3) A few days later, I found Pine Tree branches I asked him to cut, continues to shedding massive needles Into the pool. I called him & explained the situation, but he REFUSED to come back to finish the job I already paid for. He said he will not do it unless pay him more!!! 4). They removed 6 trees, one that was 40' tall and trimmed 4 trees, one that was 50' tall. They also cleaned up the front of my property which was an add on by me. Unfulfilled. my experience with this company was short and not very good for my opinion, after having stayed in a day and a few hours. the same day that was supposed to be work they contacted me by yelp saying that they were coming later than they had agreed. They gave me a range from 10am to 12pm. When I called to ask how late they were coming, they told me 3 hours later than the starting time. The problem here was not that they told me they were coming later and made me lose all the morning and part of the afternoon, but rather that they were also unclear. that's why I give them only one star read more

I would give 0 stars if I could! He didn't know what he was doing with our tree and has caused more damage and issues than I could ever imagine. I would not recommend this company for anything. We have a large Jacaranda in our back yard that needed to be trimmed and cleaned up. Fernando suggested topping it by 8feet and when asked if this was normal they said yes. We trusted them to do the right thing and only after our tree was cut back to practically nothing did I start worrying. I googled tree topping and everything I found said this was a bad idea for trees because it causes smaller weaker branches to grow that will easily break off. It also leaves large wounds which makes the tree vulnerable to diseases and insect infestation. When I reached out to Fernando about my concerned he ignored me until I threatened to stop payment on the check until he responded to my questions. Then he called and just kept telling me the tree will be fine. He never answered any of my questions or concerns. He just kept asking me if I knew anything about trees... I reached out to another company that we did not hire because Fernando was recommended to us by a family member and the other company confirmed my concerned. "8ft top is more than should be. And yes should of left more foliage as it will grow with weak branches. It should of been mostly reduce sides as naturally as possible and cut off any death or dying branches, thin, lace it. Topwise would of been just cut back any crazy branches sticking out to shape it." Fernando made me feel that it was my fault for not researching how a tree should be pruned. What can I say, nothing negative for sure. I messaged Fernando online and he got back to me very quick as did one other person, but they wanted double what Fernando was asking. We made arrangements to have the work done. I was surprised when 3 trucks showed up and 5 guys, wow! They got right to work on my palm trees and then we talked about the tree I hate, saying I just wanted it cut 5' from the house. I asked him if I wanted the tree removed in the future how much it would cost, he gave me a price then said we're already here I'll make you a deal. Overall I paid 1/2 what the other guy wanted, very cheap IMO. His crew was very friendly, professional and did a top notch job in under 2 hours, even taking time to eat lunch. When our local community services magazine came out I came across an ad for a Tree Trimming service, so I decided to check their rating here on Yelp. They had a five star rating, so I requested a quote thru the Yelp app. Five or so other companies popped up, and Bernabeé Tree Service (also excellent reviews here on Yelp) was one of them. I'm all for comparison shopping, so I requested a quote from them as well. Fernando from Bernabé Tree Services responded to my message within minutes. I gave him all the pertinent information on what work I needed done and scheduled an appointment for an estimate for the following day. He arrived earlier than scheduled, which was an appreciated surprise. He discussed the job with my husband and gave us a slightly better price than the other company, so we scheduled an appointment for him to come back with his crew to do the job. Bright and early this morning, Fernando and his crew arrived to trim my tree. I'm very pleased with his service! He arrived earlier than expected, was professional and efficient, and did an excellent job pruning and trimming our tree. Fernando has a crew of 2 or three. They clearly have a great deal of experience, since they were able to do extensive work on my tree AND have all the debris gathered, run thru their wood chipper, and any leftovers swept up and cleared in just about an hour. I dealt with the owner, who I think is named Fernando on two jobs. The first was to take out an old diseased tree and plant an avocado instead. And after less than 3 month on that job, the avocado tree died. When I called him, he said he can not guaranteed anything. The second job was removal of a palm tree and instead making a planter. Again all the new shrubs and planting died a week after. If you hire this guy, you will not get what you hired him for, poor quality plants, mediocre and unprofessional services.
