I needed a quick smog check and based on good yelp reviews I scheduled an appointment for the same day on-line. Experience couldn't have been easier or better. I pulled into the shop about 5 minutes before my appointment and handed over my keys at the counter. I barely had time to fill out the information on the form and my car was ready to go. Fast, easy, efficient and friendly. Would recommend to anyone needing a smog check---get it done here! read more

I want to thank fellow yelpers who helped me find this place. My registration is due this week and I cringe when it comes to dealing with my car. I always feel like I'm going to get taken when it comes to cars just because I'm a female. This place was a god send. Folks were right, I was done in less than 10 minutes! Just enough time to sit down outside and browse through yelp listings for 3 places on my phone. I was tempted to run across the street to look at the Berkeley Animal shelter, but my car was done in a blink of an eye. Quick, painless, and they accept credit cards. The yelp mention = $40 total which includes tax. I came in on Monday around 11am and no one else was in line ahead of me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. There are few places that will make such a pain in the ass task completely painless. Thanks Berkeley Smog and thanks fellow yelp reviewers! read more

Real solid place for smog check. Fast, friendly, in & out in less than 20 minutes if you make an appt in advance, and if you don't drive a bucket that needs retest or meet other DMV requirements. There's a Groupon offer out there, or you can check in on Yelp & use one of the Yelp App offers after you check in. I've been to other smog test centers on/around San Pablo in the Berkeley/Albany area, this place is definitely strong to quite strong. Then again, if you're visiting smog test centers more than once in a blue moon, might be time for a new whip. read more

Awesome! Super friendly, cheap, and oh-so-fast. Stopped in on my lunch break and they were done by the time I walked to Berkeley Bowl and back. Plus, they left free chocolate on my dashboard. Love it! ;) read more

SUPER QUICK AND FRIENDLY SERVICE! I have taken my rx8 here twice for a smog check. I work in Berkeley so I conveniently cruise here during my lunch hour, Drop off my car for the smog test, cross the street and eat lunch at Juan's. I come back and car is done and I have 2 GHIRARDELLI Chocolates sitting inside my car (my dessert) with a Happy Smogging smiley napkin just like what everyone has posted here... lol of course as a chick, you can't help but say "awww... " LOL 5stars - easy read more

The government is all up in my tailpipe where it doesn't belong--it was time for a smog test, which I hate. It's expensive, you wait around for no reason, the guy's a jerk, you fry outside in the sun, and you leave hungry. If only there was a smog test center that solved all those problems... Boom! Berkeley Smog: 1) Discount online for booking an appointment. Cheapest in the entire area (compared to the two other places I called). 2) Book an appointment time online. No wait. 3) Friendly dude 4) Wait in a seating area in the shade 5) Caramel Ghiradelli chocolate square attacks your hunger. If there's a better way to get the government out of your tailpipe, I don't know it. read more

I heard of this place via Living Social, so I wasn't so sure what to expect, but given the high Yelp ratings, I decided to give it a try, and hey, it was a lot less expensive than my last smog check. With the LS voucher ($19) and the state processing fee, it came in under $30! The location was easy enough to find, but I wasn't sure if I was at the right place, because it looked so rundown--almost looked out of business, but I rolled up after double checking the phone number posted and there was a dude just hanging out at the shop. He was friendly and straightforward. The smog test took exactly 10 minutes and he left a chocolate in the car for me! :) Totally satisfied and impressed. Would recommend and go again. read more

Wonderful smog spot. Used a groupon and was in and out in under 10 minutes. Yelp wants me to say some more so I'll say that the dude working was exceptionally kind and gave me a chocolate after it was all done. read more

I have used Berkeley Smog Test center to smog test my car when the shop was located over by 10th street in Berkeley. Their appointment system was very easy, so I made one for the next day, Saturday at 1 pm. I arrived 30 minutes before appointment and was take right away. The place filled up fast, but my car was done in 20 minutes. Great place. read more

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm a BIG FAN of a Smog Test joint!!! Berekeley Smog Test ONLY Center is AWESOME. Make your appointment online, drive up... go for a 15 min walk ... and BAM, you are done. GREAT customer service, FAST, and super friendly to my scary looking dog. (We like that!) read more

Why I chose Berkeley Smog Test the first time: * Close to 1,000 Yelp reviews * A solid 5-Star rating * Able to schedule a same-day appointment online Why I'm now a dedicated customer: * No waiting at my scheduled time * Friendly greeting * Quick, efficient service * Clear pricing up front with no hidden fees "magically" appearing at checkout * Ability to get license plate sticker on the spot--my registration was past due, so I didn't want to be driving with an expired registration waiting for the DMV to mail the sticker. Well worth the service charge! * The personal touch of leaving a treat on the steering column--it just seemed like a sincere expression of "thank you for your business". I've always hated getting my car smogged: LONG waits when you show up--even with an appointment--unhappy, unfriendly technicians who act as if you're an interruption to their workday, and arguments at checkout about the price you expected versus what they are charging. Never again, now that I've experienced Berkeley Smog Test! read more

Berkeley Smog is very fast and thorough. A totally painless process.

BOTTOM LINE AT THE TOP: Just as billed, this place is fast, cheap, and easy. They honored the "Yelp" price of $40 and had me out of there in 10 minutes flat. Waiting area is a little 'sparse' and stuffy, but you can't complain too much when they run a smog faster than your coffee shop makes a latte. read more

I don't really write reviews but I wanted to confirm that this place gets 5-stars! So easy! Made an appointment online, showed up a few minutes early, filled out paperwork and dropped off keys, went across the street at Juan's Place for lunch (with a coupon I got in the email confirmation) and came back all done. 20 minutes, tops. Really friendly service! I didn't get the usual l'm-getting-ripped-off-at-a-car-shop-because-I'm-a-girl feeling. Quick, friendly, and even came with a Ghirardelli chocolate square, which just happened to be my favorite kind (caramel filling). 5+++ stars! Well-deserved. I've found my go-to smog check place for all my cars in the future. read more

Stopping by here was amazing. I needed to get my car cleared for registration and was dreading heading to the DMV (I didn't have an appointment either). Found out they provide DMV services too and was in and out in under 30 minutes with my smog, new registration/transfer of ownership. Plus, they give you chocolate! Highly recommend this place to everyone! read more

Made an appointment online (got $20. off - online special!) the night before for 8:15am got there 10 minutes early, I was the first person there. Smog Test and DMV Renewal was quick and easy with friendly and professional staff.

I made an appointment with them online for the same day. No waiting for them to start on my car. I pulled up and they came up to the car right away as one car was pulling out of the testing spot. They seem to be very efficient. I didn't have time to drop my dog off at home so I took her with me. They were friendly to me and my dog. She usually growls at people who approach our car, but I guess she could tell they were good guys. The actual testing was super quick - just about 10 minutes. Then I paid the promo price they had on their website, they gave some attention to my dog (she soaked it right up!), and we were on our way. Total time there was just under 15 minutes. I'd definitely go here again. read more

You can make an appointment online! (I should stop there, that should be enough to convince you). And you get a discount when you do! So I did. I showed up, the attendant was super nice, there were some comfy seats to sit in while I waited 5 minutes, then the test was done in 10 minutes and they left me a little chocolate on the dash. I mean come on, who does nice things for people anymore? They do. So go. Let them be nice to you too. read more

Going here will make your day better, even if it was already a little smoggy. Don't forget to make an appointment, and if you can, bring the guys a smile, because they deserve it! I would never go anywhere else, you shouldn't either! (And while you wait, you can walk to Berkeley Bowl, or go to the Animal Shelter and play with puppies, or go to Juan's Mexican and eat chips, or bask in the sunshine. But you won't need to, because they're so darn fast. I wish they did oil changes, too.) read more

I went in once, with my aged, aging, ancient (1994) car. It didn't pass. Not a huge surprise, but there you go. They gave me two new tries until it did, and advice. They were punctual, helpful, kind, which is more than many can muster these days of Covid. And yep - they wore masks. Finally passed! read more

I've been to Berkeley Smog Center twice in the past four weeks, and both times the appointment time I had booked online was the exact time my vehicle when in. Perfect! No waiting around, or rushing to get there early to 'get in line' like so many other places. Dealt with Jesse both times and he is a true professional and just a nice guy. Fair, honest and free WiFi while you wait. Will only be going to Berkeley Smog Center from now on. Plus they are 'Groupon friendly' and give you a piece of chocolate as a 'parting gift', so what's not to love? ;-) read more

So quick it didn't seem like a chore at all! All the guys were super sweet and genuinely nice and polite. Great customer waiting area too! I would have been fine waiting longer with all the old New Yorker magazines to read in their super comfy chairs. I liked I could schedule an online appointment too, although I didn't need to because they are so efficient. Thanks for making something that could be annoying into a pleasant experience! read more

I scheduled my appointment online and received $20 off. The test was done quickly and I was there less than 15 minutes.

The best place for a smog test that we've ever experienced. Very welcoming and friendly technician. Clean environment, sitting area with choice of neatly laid out magazines (albeit not current issues --- but fun to go through them anyway. There's something for everyone). Quick, efficient, friendly service. They even give you a chocolate mint after he finishes. Parking onsite while you wait (a big plus!). Can't think of any other place that we'd use in the future. This is our go-to place, Groupon or not. But hey, the Groupon was an added bonus! Very impressed. read more

Man, I wish I could come here to get everything done for my car. I made an appointment online for 2pm last Thursday and it was so quick! And when they handed the car over, I found a piece of chocolate on my dashboard from them, with a "Happy Smogging" napkin underneath. So cute...THANK YOU! That's really nice.
