I am always trying to find fun places for my kids to enjoy. After reading reviews about this place, I knew I had to try it. We decided to do the petting zoo portion first. The first animals we came upon were baby pigs!!!! Cutest things ever! There were roosters walking around and my son dared to pet one! We visited with the cows and the daddy pot belly pig. We then decided to grab some feed and let the goats and sheep eat out of our hands. All the animals were so cute and friendly. We then went inside and decided to order some lunch. My kids ordered pb &j's from the kids menu. It came with a drink and a side. Everything about it was homemade. The bread was so good we bought a loaf to take home! I tried the chicken salad on the homemade bread and it was amazing and HUGE! next time I'll go with the half sandwich. They have a cold section with farm fresh eggs, milk, cheese, etc. There were also homemade pies and pot pies to take home. We chose are drinks from the cooler section and grabbed a table. They have a section with local honey, homemade jelly, salsa, soaps, aprons, breads, and more. Up at the counter where you order, there were homemade cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, cookies, and more. All of it looked delicious. But, the best part is their homemade ice cream. It was some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted. They said they had just got done making the cookies and cream, so that is what we chose. It was so creamy! My kids downed it. Another place that I am shocked has yet to be reviewed. This place is like going back in time. We went out to the hay maze back in October and stopped into the shop to try their goodies. The cinnamon rolls are to die for. Outstanding. We ordered dinner rolls for Thanksgiving and they were so delicious. The place is tiny but they have a few tables if you want to eat there, as well. Though I haven't tried the pies, they look great. It's a bit out of the way but worth the trip for quality homemade baked goods! read more

We were pretty disappointed in the atmosphere of this deli/creamery/farm stand. The older woman manning the register was fairly dismissive in her treatment of my large family. I really wanted to like this place, but for us it seemed to be a "one and done" trip. The rest of the staff was distantly friendly. I heard them interacting quite enthusiastically with the regulars frequenting the place. We are new to the area and were hoping to find a couple small businesses that we could be regulars at too, but it felt like the Bergs' dance card was full. The sandwiches were good, the ice cream was alright. I didn't purchase any of the vegetables or home made items I was originally intending simply because I was so put off by the unfriendly manner in which we were treated. read more

I've driven by this place for a year and a half and hadn't stopped in. Everytime I drove by I said I should try it out, but I had no idea what I was missing. A friend of my son's said that her family gets food there on occasion and I had some time on my hands at lunch today so I stopped by. The place was packed and for good reason. I didn't try their lunch, but opted for some of their baked goods. Their cinnamon rolls are great and so is their bread pudding. I also tried their homemade ice cream...most excellent! Give this place a try, you will definitely like it - at least their baked goods. I can't speak for their food, but judging by the number of folks eating there, it must be good. read more

We made the drive out from Norfolk TWICE this fall - it was that good! Our first time we had lunch and explored the petting zoo as we'd not been there previously. The line for food was a little long, but if you don't mind sitting outside there are tables out front and in the front barn. The food is good - we got sandwiches and ice cream, with decent sized servings. The petting zoo is by donation, and you can pay for extras like the hayride and pony ride. My son LOVED the pony ride, and the gentleman running it was very patient with my guy as he'd never seen a horse up close in real life. The next time we went, the ponies were resting so we spent more time feeding the goats. read more

It was my second visit yesterday. It was so awesome! Our puppy was welcomed (she's really good anyway) and that opened the door for us to spend even more time there! Visited a few times during the Halloween/fall season. Tried the best ice cream I've ever had: apple streusel. Took home a quart of that and a chicken pot pie. We also walked around their petting farm area, corn maze, and took out try with their corn gun. My toddler son especially loved the hay ride and kid-sized tractor vehicles. We are regulars here, though we live a half hour away. There are three elements worth recommending. The food is excellent. I particularly recommend the chicken pot pies and ice cream. They have accessible animals that my kids love. Ice cream and farm animals! first time eating there, although my husband once bought bread from there and brought it home. i admit best homemade bread! my son had the kids meal for about 4 bucks and it included a half sandwich drink and chips. i got a full sandwich (blt) for about 6.95. at that price i would of thought it would of come with a drink and chips. but unfortunately it did not. so i gave it a 4 star because of value. i guess you are paying for novelty of the place. a definite local place where the workers knew a lot of names. i doubt i would choose to go there again when it come to breakfast or lunch because of value. i get a business got to make a profit but from my perspective if you are selling a bag of chips for .40 and if you have a soda fountain system in place i can only assume it would cost cents for soda, you would be able to afford to add that with a sandwich. i will mention my husband went to breakfast with my son and they don't serve eggs. he thought that was odd. read more

I will say this place is not what I expected. From the pics on Yelp I thought it was bigger. It's very, very small. It's a tiny store with 4 tables. I went with a group of 7 other friends. Way too big for Bergey's to handle. There was a lot of confusion on our part. Because of our size a nice young man came to us and took our order. Normally you stand in like to place your order at the counter. Then they suggested we go to their adjacent building and they would deliver our food to us. The building is about 20 feet away and one must walk on uneven gravel to get there. Our disabled folks had difficulty. The second building is essentially a barn with tables and folding chairs. I had a chicken salad sandwich and it came a la carte. I purchased a bag of chips and a root beer to round out my lunch. The chicken salad was good but nothing special. They are known for their ice cream so I got a chocolate shake to go. I didn't like it. The chocolate was very dark and strong. The parking lot is all gravel and uneven. (Not a good situation for the two disabled folks in our group.). In fact, the whole experience was difficult for the disabled folks. We went on Saturday. Duh! The place was very, very crowded and kids were every where. I won't go back. They don't have anything I can't get closer to home with much less hassle. read more

Let me start off by saying that Bergey's is a place I've been going to for probably 15 years so I've seen it before it closed and after the re-open as Bergey's Breadbasket. Their BBQ sandwiches have always been the best, and my sister (who is a BBQ aficionado) claims that there's nothing else like it. She lived in Kansas for a number of years, so that's saying something. Their ice cream is delicious and their prices have always been reasonable. I am the cupcake aficionado of the family and I've been to over 30 cupcake bakeries across the country. Mrs. Bergey's cupcakes rank pretty high among all that I've tried. Her strawberry pies are to die for as well!! The entire family is so sweet and kind hearted, I look forward to going and seeing them every time I make the trip up to Virginia. My last comment is on the changes that they've made over the years. I miss when they used to package their own candy and sell more of their own goods! I appreciate bringing in outside vendors, but anything produced by the Bergey's can't be beat. read more
