A very popular breakfast place in Cortez. My wife had a cheese & avocado omelet, which she thoroughly enjoyed, while I had a classic eggs and hash browns. Though our meals were very good, there was something weird tasting with the toast. Since it affected two different types (rye and wheat), it was not likely the bread but more likely the butter. We'll eat there again if in the area, but our less-than-perfect experience prevents me from giving Beny's four stars. read more

After a morning of yard saleing we stopped here for breakfast. We were greeted immediately and were directed to our table. The dining room was very empty. I did notice how clean the place was so that made me optimistic we were in for a great meal. Ummmmmm..... We were given the very diverse menu with little more than a nod. My mother in law and husband ordered the chicken fried steak. My husband ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and 2 extra eggs. Luckily, I wasn't hungry. The biscuits were doughy and flavorless. The gravy that was on the biscuits and chicken fried steak was bland and more like a flour paste than a gravy and was absolutely inedible. The chicken fried steak was one of those pre-made jobs instead of hand breaded and fried as we would have expected from a place with 4.5 stars. The over easy eggs my husband ordered were perfectly cooked. The toast and hash browns were delicious were delicious but not enough to make us forget the sins of the gravy. Apparently we should have ordered the Mexican food everyone raves about on Yelp. Just to be safe we will roll right on by Beny's next time we are in Cortez. read more

This was a breakfast stop for us while traveling. The food portions were gigantic, so be prepared to unbutton the top button on your jeans. I had huevos rancheros. It was totally different than what we have on the east coast, but still very delicious. Most of the breakfast meals come with breakfast potatoes and toast, so it's a lot of food. After seeing 5 stars on the only review I thought I should give this place a shot since good eats are hard to come by here in Cortez. I always thought the place looked tired and old as I drove by. Once inside I saw the last renovation was probably done in 1973 by my estimation. That being said the place was super clean. The tables are so well wiped down they had actually rubbed the finish off the boards on the edges of the tables and to me cleanliness is always a huge plus. We got in our booth and sunk down to about 14 inches off the floor, soft but at 6'1" a little uncomfortable. Not huge menu but true to the advertising outside American and Mexican Food. I tried the Verde Pork burrito and paid a little more to have it smothered in more verde chili and a dab of sour cream and guacamole. The green chili was ok but not the bold flavor of green chili found in the best green chili I've had and it seemed to be missing on spice in particular but I can't put my finger on it. The pork was tender and moist but not real flavorful. The burrito itself looked huge but was lacking substance when I pressed down to cut it, it deflated like it was filled with air. My wife's burger was a frozen patty, grilled well and served on what I would call a premium production bun. (Think top of the line Wonderbread complete with sesame seeds!) A decent tasting burger, not dry or overcooked. The fries were from a frozen bag and deep fried well, no bad oil taste, were crisp when they hit the table. Service was ok, not the most attentive, I ran out of my drink before I was asked for a refill but not long afterward. Why only two stars? Mainly because this place could be so much more. Clearly the workers were doing their best and with the right leadership they could make this a go to place. Use fresh ingredients, like fresh pressed burgers and in house fries. I'm sure the Onion rings are from a similar bag. Yes, I get it that the frozen crap is easier but come on, with the lack of food competition in this town this place could be a superstar. Clearly the workers there are dedicated. Maybe I'll come back to try the Chili Relleno/enchilada combo and see if they come from frozen beginnings too. read more

This place is busy but large enough with indoor and outdoor seating that the wait is not too long. The food portions are ridiculously large so consider sharing unless you want a ton of leftovers or burst your pant button. The cinnamon French toast was mouthwatering. Lately when going to Beny's there's been a pronounced conservative bent. Usually, Fox News is playing on the T.V. If you don't let women order first, you will be admonished by the owner in front of everyone. Any other breakfast outlet is preferable. read more

Don't go to Denny's! Come here! The portions are immense and they're hashbrowns are delicious shavings instead of strips. I had the homemade chorizo, and it was some of the best I ever had. Great place for a small town. The waitresses are kinda cute, too. I highly recommend this diner. Especially since it's homemade good rather than prepackaged stuff that you can get anywhere on the road. read more

When we arrived, there were people waiting at the door to be seated. We waited about 5 minutes until we were able to be seated. The place was swamped. My initial thought was "This isn't good. Mmmm! Good solid diner type breakfast food (I've only gone for breakfast). You can get eggs, and a meat (including corned beef hash) with biscuits and gravy for a good price. They always make my husband's eggs correctly too. The waitstaff is always friendly and the place is really clean. read more

We were looking for a great breakfast/lunch place since we were in town for Mesa Verde and couldn't get tickets until the afternoon. This place is AMAZING. We had breakfast burritos, traditional American breakfasts, a Mexican influenced breakfast (enchiladas and eggs) and a hamburger at 9:45AM (they serve breakfast and lunch all day). The red and green sauces were very good and we were pleased with everything from the nice and friendly server and the great food with huge portions! Very good food, great service always, clean and located right as you pass thru town. We always have the BLT with tons of thick bacon, crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes . The side that comes with it is always a substantial portion as well. ( we always get the salad as a side, and it is really all we need to eat, very fresh and crisp.) The prices are more than fair, and we always see the police, firemen and locals eating there, which is always a testimony to the establishment. read more

I lived in Cortez for the most recent 2 years and whenever we wanted to go out for breakfast, this is where we'd go 95% of the time. The service was always attentive and the food was consistently good - the breakfast burrito (especially with their chorizo) was a favorite, but we had the Cinnamon Revolution French Toast and Pancakes sometimes, too. However, after having been seated in the back of a half-full restaurant and ignored for 20 minutes while seeing that people who were seated after us had drinks AND food, we finally left in frustration. Have always loved this place until today. We arrived about 1045 and were seated at al little table by the door with high traffic. Asked to move to a booth, several were opened just not cleaned. As they were cleaned, they were filled. Our waitress never came back so we left. Will go back but will hope for the other wait staff who are awesome! read more
