A classic drive in! You don't see those a lot nowadays - most restaurants that still call themselves drive in end up being more like a walk in. I personally don't like eating in the car all that much, so we were glad to see that Burger Boy Drive In also had seating along the front. It works exactly the same as driving in - one of the car hops will come out and take the order, and then bring out the food. We dropped in a bit after 6:30 pm and the place was completely packed, with basically all the drive-in stalls taken. We sat down and placed our order at around 6:40 and didn't actually get our food until after the place closed at 7! I was amazed to see customer after customer drive in past closing and unfortunately having to be shooed away. Green Chile Burger, 1/4 oz ($6.29) - This burger starts with a buttered and toasted bun, spread with just a bit of mustard on the bottom, followed by shredded iceberg lettuce, pickles, sliced onion and tomato. Then comes a burger patty cooked smash-ish style - flattened with some nicely caramelized and crisp edges, but not as lacy as I would typically expect. The burger is cooked thoroughly until a bit dry in the center. I thought this burger would be absolutely doused in hatch chile, but it turns out they just spoon a bit on top of the center of the patty. It's slightly spicy and imparts decent flavor, but not as flavorful as I typically associate with green hatch. The chile unfortunately is completely drained and doesn't contribute much moisture, making the burger sadly on the dry side. The dab of mustard on the bottom does not do enough to make up for the overcooked patty. (3/5) Fries, Large ($2.79) - These are the typical commercial crinkle cut fries, fried until nice and crisp on the exterior and leaving a fluffy interior. Not much else to say. Fry sauce can be asked for and it's the standard commercial sauce, which works great as the fries aren't heavily salted. (4/5) Buenos Nachos ($6.29) - Interesting construction, with smashed tortilla chips on the bottom, chili and nacho cheese sauce smothering the smashed chips, an additional layer of whole chips above that, followed by a top layer of lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, and onions. It's a pretty simple dish that works well together. The chili includes beans, but honestly isn't that flavorful though. (3/5) Burrito ($3.89) - I had no idea what to expect when I ordered this. It's basically a cheap frozen burrito that is deep fried. The meat puree inside is almost indistinguishable from textured protein, mixed with beans in a very salty and fatty mixture. The exterior is fried well to a crisp, without any leakage of the filling. (2/5) A lot of the 3 star ratings I give are because of major technical issues in the food. I can say that Burger Boy Drive In isn't really in that category. Instead, my rating is mostly due to food preferences. Hopefully my thoughts don't dissuade anyone from visited. Almost everyone seems to enjoy it, as the restaurant was pretty packed every time I drove past it. Bathrooms - I'm not sure there was one that was accessible for patrons. Stopped by on way through town. The place was super busy and service was extremely slow. I wish they'd hire more staff. You sit in your car and they walk over and take your order, then bring it out to you, then take your card inside and run it. It's just a very slow process. The staff were friendly though. The place was packed so we thought that was a good sign, now we know the real reason for the business...make sure you are not in a hurry! Very slow but service but with a smile. There's something to say as all the classic drive-up restaurants of yesteryear slowly disappear, replaced with instant-gratification drive-thru - AI replacing machines in the cog - franchises that have no element of community or coming together. Burger Boy has managed to survive and seems to still be thriving in this town. When we pulled up and parked, I didn't see any dine-in or picnic table seating; this is truly still a relax and eat in your car establishment. A young server gal came to our window, took our order. She was friendly with a smile. I got the Shroomster and an order of onion rings, which were both very good. The burger was seasoned and cooked perfect, and the sauteed mushrooms and cheese were really good (sorry they're not visible in my pictures!). The onion rings were big and tasty. The Four Corners marathon brought me to Cortez, CO. So, my first day there, I venture out looking for something good and quick to devour. During my slow drive by, I spotted Burger Boy! The name itself was intriguing. Now trust, I do not eat burgers from just anywhere. But I had a feeling this was going to be one to rave about and it was! I pulled my car, and then a young lady with bright eyes and a friendly smile took my order. I got the Green Chile quarter pounder with fries! One of the best bacon, green chile & cheeseburger ever! Saw the place packed with vehicles passing thru on our way to Durango. Made plans to stop on our way back thru. My husband had the quarter pounder cheeseburger, fries, & strawberry shake. He also said his was delish. No inside seating. We had our 5th wheel in tow, so we couldn't utilize the car hop. Service was extremely slow. Arrived at 5:30 on a Monday and it took almost an hour to get food and all the stalls weren't even full. Hamburger was sub par, my sweet potato fries were not good, my husband said his food was fine nothing special. Cute little place but only eat here if you have a long time to wait for food. Passing through town on the way to Mesa Verde and stopped in for a quick lunch. It's like an old time drive-in. They come out to your car to take your order. Then bring it on a tray that fits in the car window. Service was prompt. We ordered two cheeseburgers, one with green chili. Also two fries and two drinks. The fries were good, they came out hot. The cheeseburger was excellent but the star of lunch was the green chili cheeseburger. Oh mama, was it good. I ate it before I could get a picture. Fellow Yelpers got it covered though. We have been coming to Burger Boy for many years. Up until recently, we have really enjoyed our experience. Lately though we have noticed a change for the worse. Staff seems poorly trained, and the turnover rate seems higher. Seems like they can't get out of their own way. I've decided to stop coming here. Before heading to William's AZ we stopped here for lunch after our visit to Mesa Verde NP. What a great choice. Wife had the small green chile cheeseburger with small order of onion rings. I had a large hamburger with small tots. Delicious. I should've gotten the half pound burger. A real throwback to a time when burger joints like this were widespread throughout the country. We are staying in Cortez for vacation and are pretty disappointed overall with food choices but so far Burger Boys has been the best place. Our kids were happy to have good food! There's tons of parking all around the restaurant. They come to your car for you to order the food. We waited a little bit for our food but it wasn't too long. The cheeseburgers were excellent, my kids were especially big fans! I wanted to try the green chili burger but was worried it would be to spicy since I haven't had it before. The lady who took our order was really nice and put it on the side for me. I ended up really liking it although it was slightly spicy for me. The sweet potato fries are really good and crispy! This was my first time here in the city of Cortez. Stopped here because there was a lot of traffic outside of the restaurant and now I see why. The staff was super courteous and took my order very quickly. The setup is like an old school Sonic's drive in. Once the food arrived, all I can say is that it was simply amazing. I've now eaten here twice (July 2020 and October 2020) when passing through from Telluride to Phoenix. The second time was just as good as the first, and the service was speedy despite how busy they were. The first visit I had the green chili burger. It's messy (but SO yum) so I don't suggest trying to eat it on the road. It's best enjoyed stationary in your car. This most recent time I got the mushroom burger. It's was perfect! We shared tater tots which are crispy on the outside and soft/steamy on the inside. We also shared a large chocolate shake. Mistake! Get your own. They're delicious. Disappointed going to Burger Boy. We ordered the shroomburger, jalapeño burger, fries, onion rings, 2 strawberry shakes and 2 chocolate shakes. Shroomburger was small and not very much onion rings. We got cheese on our shroomburger and jalapeño burger and they don't tell you it costs extra to add cheese. It's 30 cents each. They charged us 40 cents for extra flavor twice I'm assuming for the strawberry shakes. It's on the menu for the .40 for extra flavor, but wasn't sure what it is for. They only have 3 flavors for shakes vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. We also ordered fries and they weren't crispy. It should have been cooked a little bit longer. There was a long wait for our food. I was expecting it to be hot and fresh, but it wasn't. The burgers were ok. The only thing I liked were the shakes. Really delicious food! A perfect, greasy, big, savory, classic cheeseburger. I skipped fries and ordered some perfectly fried onion rings. Downed it with a really cold orange soda. First time being in Colorado, we had just drove by to run some errands but my boyfriend had already been here before. The burgers are delicious, so are their floats. We ate in the car since there's no dine in but I don't mind it's a great fast food place. If you are not a fan of mustard I recommend you tell them because all their burgers come with it. This place is sooo good if you are wanting to treat yourself! The bacon double deluxe with a side of onion rings and their homemade ranch is where it is at!! The burgers are flavorful and not dry and I've always gotten the fries, but recently tried their onion rings and they are some of the best!!
