This is not a sandwich shop. They have new owners and it is an Irish sit down restaurant. There was no name change so it was very misleading for us We had the White Witch Sandwich that was not that good it was a panini with two slices of processed turkey and some gooey orange cheese. read more

New owners, they took an amazing local sandwich shop with a great menu and turned it into an over priced gimmicky theme restaurant. 20-25$ for a sandwich is absurd. Weird old timey music, costumes and way over the top decorations. The attempt to play on the existing name could have been done subtlety /tastefully but it's way too much. Feels like it should be in a theme park. RIP to a great community sandwich shop that was a local favorite for years. Well my kids are hooked... the mac N cheese is the best I've had, and they get so excited to look for the fairy doors, and the Jacks Jelly Bean surprise was a delightful way to keep them entertained. Ordered a French dip from here like I have for the past week. They up their prices for a French dip 10.00 dollars more. It's was 21 with 25 percent tip for a Togo order now it's 26-27.00 dollars a sandwich without a tip. How are the waiters suppose to make any money? And 27.00 for a basic French dip that you have to ask for cheese to be melted on.....no thank you. Price gouging at its finest! Good job! read more

Was on a road trip down to New Mexico to check out some sandhill cranes and snow geese and was in need of food. Always make it a point to support local businesses to help the local economy! Was glad that I stopped by. Very friendly service! I ordered the Navajo taco to go, and while I waited, I was asked if I wanted water, asked how my day was, and was, thanks for my business! Even when I place the call, they readily Said thank you for my business! They did say that it would take a while for them to prepare my food, which was about 20 to 25 minutes. So be sure to call ahead of time if you don't want to wait forever for your food! Like I said earlier, I ordered the Navajo taco. The fry bread itself was covered/smothered with a pork bean mixture (typically, it's a beef and bean mixture, which I have ordered from Navajo folks in the past), and brightly colored veggies, such as tomatoes, green onions and a variety of green lettuces. It also seems like they used a mixture of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. The pork mixture reminded me of the taste of chicken enchiladas, with green sauce/chile verde. Super tasty and very comfy! Oh, I forgot to add that they added a side of sour cream. What I like about this Navajo taco is that it's not overly heavy, which would leave someone with major food coma! I guess I would say that it is both comfy and refreshing! So glad I stopped by. I have the fuel to drive a few more hours down to southern New Mexico to check out my birds! read more

Guaranteed to be ignored and sit for a minimum of 10 minutes before you even get a glass of water. They have one server who is also the owner, and she is the epitome of rude. Staff was absolutely incredible- so friendly and helpful with our kids- even bringing special books and prizes. Food was healthy, large portions and so great! I came here for lunch just after 1pm on a Tuesday. It was somewhat busy but there were still some tables available. We sat ourselves at a table and the waitress brought us the menus. She was pretty nice and helped answer questions we had about some of the items on the menu. They had special written on a whiteboard that was near our table. Their menu had a variety of options for everybody. The Philly Green Chili Steak Sandwich ($8.99) sounded good to me, but I wanted a burger so I ordered the Wild Western Burger ($9.49) and chose the fries as a side. My two coworkers ordered the Garden Veggie Burger ($7.99) and the other one ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich ($8.49). We waited a while before our food came out. The Wild Western Burger was pretty big because there were a couple of onion rings inside of it. It was one of those burgers that was held up by a knife stuck in the middle. The burger was delicious and I was glad I chose that burger. The fries were good as well. In my opinion, that burger was worth the money with the amount of food. Once Upon A Sandwich was a good place to go to grab lunch with good food. I recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. read more

We were passing through Cortez and called in an order ahead of time. Our group of 6 was very hungry, having just finished a 5-day backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon. Once Upon a Sandwich was perfect! We were all thrilled with our food. The fries were perfection. We had the Reuben, western burger, grilled chicken, and crispy chicken sandwiches. Stopped on our way to visit the kids at Ft. Lewis College. Server (owner?) was extremely abrupt--nearly mono-syllabic. Food was so-so. On a trip to Texas, we went through Cortez and needed a quick lunch. Once Upon A Sandwich did not disappoint. Great small Mom and Pop diner feel as we sat at the bar and talked to the employees. Super friendly people! Once you get past sampling beer and chatting, go for the Turkey Panini. They love their roasted chili's, so if heat is not your thing, go plain. It still had amazing flavor. My hubs had the steak chimichanga. Great Gringo-style (not smothered in all that sauce). We left full and happy! Definitely recommend it if you are passing through or visiting Cortez. read more

Agree with all the other positive reviews posted. However, it is a sit down place with table service, which took us by surprise. The Cobb salad (with crispy chicken as recommended by the server) and Greek salad (with chicken) were made with a variety of greens, and everything was super fresh. Sat outside with our dog, who they welcomed and treated like another guest. Finished with their homemade carrot cake which was super delicious. Highly recommend! read more

This is a two part review. We learned about this sandwich shop while participating in a festival in Cortez. The restaurant provided sandwiches for our lunches. They were very good! So after the festival was over, we thought we'd try the restaurant for our last lunch before leaving town. Upon entering the front part of the building, the bartender ignored us. Then a woman came out from behind a door and grunted, "hi," then she too ignored us. After several minutes we walked around and found someone who was bussing tables. He tried to avoid us too, so I blocked his path and asked him if we should sit anywhere or wait to be seated. He told us to sit anywhere and then scooted away. We found a table in the back half of the building. People were eating so we figured we'd get service. Not happening! We wait over 10 minutes, with no sign of any servers. So we walked out. read more

We had the Grand Tacos with beef, a Greek Salad with grilled chicken, the bacon cheeseburger, loaded potato and BLT. The stand outs today were the Tacos and Bacon Cheeseburger - something in the spread or the ingredients gave it a flavor that just popped. Everyone left extremely satisfied. Most of us struggled to finish our meal. Next time we're in Cortez - we're eating here! Only critique here would be that if you are selling yourself as a sandwich shop - it might pay to have a gluten free bread. However that didn't stop us from getting meals that suit. read more

Ordered 1/2 tuna sandwich and Portuguese soup. Also tried clam chowder and Southwest chicken salad. Tuna was a'plenty. Picked at the excess tuna with utensils. Pretty delicious. :) Portuguese soup and clam chowder definitely tasted House made. So flavorful. Chicken in the salad was shredded and warm. Pretty yummy, as well. The staff was attentive and kind.
