We had a super nice brunch here! We sat out on the patio under the shade which was the perfect temp in the AM. We got some specialty black sesame lattes that were delicious. I am not a huge fan of places advertising "ceremonial grade matcha" so we avoided the matcha lattes (matcha isn't even graded in this way in Japan, it just feels like clunky Western marketing?) I got the smoked trout and my friends got the avocado toast and a quiche lorraine - all absolutely delish! The bakery case looked super enticing but we were stuffed after brunch. I heard from one of my friends who (Mancos local) that Moondog specializes in French pastries. If I'm ever back to visit, I'll definitely have to give their pastries a try! Outstanding BLAT The manager baffles me. He keeps his back to the door, even when he knows a new guest has arrived. Apparently, his private conversations are so riveting that there's no need to acknowledge a customer. We're talking for 20 minutes stretches. Great job being the only place open with a breakfast burrito on a Wednesday morning in Mancos. Breakfast burrito with chicken and pineapple was solid, would be good to have a consistent traditional burrito available. Breakfast tacos were great and a very solid portion. We had a blueberry bread pudding muffin which was 10 stars. We will be back next time we are in town to try the Elvis Presley banana bread PB French toast - sounds amazing. We just had an amazing breakfast! This is a very cool place. Our server was this adorable woman with a yellow bandana that I just wanted to hug! I'm sorry I didn't get her name. Worst nightmare ever! Coming off the mountain from Mesa Verde national Park we stopped at Mancos Colorado for lunch and stopped at this café. There is another one of these cafés in Key West, Florida and after I paid for lunch in Colorado with my credit card, within 36 hours nearly $3000 was fraudulently charged to my credit card in Florida !!! coincidence ? Maybe . I do not believe in coincidences. I will NEVER eat at this establishment again ! And while we were parked there eating, someone tried to siphon gas from my car . It was a complete nightmare experience ! I highly recommend you eat lunch someplace else. The food was OK and the people were really polite. And my credit card was hijacked. read more

We were served Cappuccinos that smelled and tasted like rotten milk and the staff completely failed to admit they made a mistake. After the coffees were put down on the table I could immediately smell the rotten milk, there is absolutely no way the waitress couldn't smell it. I tried the tiniest sip thinking I must imagining it and it was absolutely disgusting and sour. We let the waitress know and she made us new ones and said with an attitude: "You can try these if you want!" They were a little better but it still had a sour taste. I have no doubt they used fresh milk, so it is clear that the machine or equipment wasn't properly cleaned and when I tried to explain my concern I was dismissed with: "You guys must not like the milk." If by that they mean spoilt milk, then yes we don't like that. My recommendation to management is to enforce proper cleaning protocols and train their staff on customer service. I don't eat out much, so a place has to be sterling, and the Moondog Cafe hits 11 on every single aspect--just every delicious bite of truly fresh and well-prepared meals with THE greatest bakery in the entire Four Corners. You will swear that you are in France when you try one of their pastries. The artwork in the back room is pure Colorado/SW--goofy yet serene yet well-painted. Service is friendly and gentle and spot-on. I live over the hill in another town with plenty of good spots, but I never mind driving the 30 miles to have breakfast or lunch here. Quaint homey atmosphere, my family of four strolled in for late breakfast. We were greeted by friendliest young lady who fortunately also became our server. The food assortments and culinary creativity was/is very appealing as was specialty coffee drinks which Maxine thoroughly explained and prepared for us. Pastries were over the top delish. Definitely a 4 out of 5 rating but raised to a 5+ thanks to attentive, pleasant and entertaining service provided by our server. But Moondog's Mesa Verde Benedict with polenta cake was a revelation! We were visiting Mesa Verde NP and wanted a breakfast spot. OMG the Moondog cafe was a highlight of this trip! Started with a dark roast coffee (delicious), ordered 2 Moondog classics which consisted of eggs, bacon, homemade sausage, seasoned breakfast potatoes. Fantastic food and topped it off with a chocolate croissant and a chocolate mousse bomb! The cafe itself was very artistic and inviting and the staff were top notch. STRIKE ONE - First Visit: Nice remodel. Friendly staff. Our server was pleasant, but after taking our order, she never again returned to our table. She didn't come by to see how our meal was or refill our coffees. I had to flag down another person to take my watery, undercooked Omelette back to the kitchen for repairs. All while our server was graciously tending to tables with newcomers and other appreciative diners. STRIKE TWO - Second Visit: Again, we had a pleasant server. This one did return to check on us, although she failed to notice my tiny, empty water glass, which was strategically placed at the edge of our table. I had to retrieve the water pitcher from the Server Station to refill our glasses. My wife and I both ordered Eggs Benedict (two different styles). Upon our first bite, we each commented that our English Muffins were gooey. We peeled back the toppings to see that, sure enough, the middle of our Muffins were under-baked and doughy. Very unpleasant. After pushing aside the gooey Muffins, we engaged our server to let her know. She said she'd go see what she could do. After several long minutes, she came back to our table with our bill and told us, "our muffins are homemade and they leave them a little soft in the middle," all while we're looking at and showing her the gooey, under-baked dough of the "Homemade" English Muffins. We understand the idea of, "crispy on the outside/fluffy on the inside," but half-baked? No, of course not! That's not healthy, not to mention unappealing and off-putting. STRIKE THREE - Still Second Visit: It's not Eggs Benedict without the English Muffin, and that's what we got. We paid full price ($16.5 and $17.5) for an incomplete and substandard meal. The Manager never came by to offer a replacement, or add to the weak explanation of why their "Homemade" English Muffins have a gooey, under-baked dough in the middle. Our server never offered to compensate with ANYTHING. Like maybe replace the Muffins, how about a piece of toast, or can I give you a discount on your meal? NOPE. (and we still left her a ten dollar tip) For us, it's never a good day or a comfortable situation to call attention to a problem with a meal. We don't wanna make a scene, but this could not go unaddressed. The fact that they never offered to fix the problem was completely unacceptable and a downright shame. They're a BAKERY for crying out loud! This is something over which they should be appalled and embarrassed. TO CONCLUDE: Moondog Cafe is not concerned with the quality of their baked goods, nor were they interested in fixing our meal or making us happy in any way. We live within walking distance to Moondog and there are few-to-no other options for breakfast in Mancos, but we are not interested in ever going back to Moondog Cafe. TWO STARS: I wanted to give ONE STAR but the wait staff are friendly and nice, although they all need to improve their server-skills. Too bad the Bakery and the Cowardly Manager is dragging them all down. read more

We had dinner here and it was so..... disappointing! The water was warm, the servers were clueless, the food was awful! I was so excited by the menu and we wanted to try breakfast, lunch and dinner here - but we will never go back! Whoever is cooking the food at dinner needs to learn how to cook. The server told us that the special was ravioli - but it was a huge bowl of starchy tortellini with an inedible sauce. The black bean burger was dry and tasteless -not crispy at all with way too much lettuce and a huge piece of tomato and onion on too much bread - that whole meal was a Fail as well. Our appetizer was gross! We couldn't finish anything. On the plus side, after talking to one of the servers for 15 minutes and asking for the owner (who was not there - but should have been) she finally gave us a discount on our bill. The whole experience was so negative and I really hope the owner hires a new chef for dinner and gets it together. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but the service first off was awful... the " barista" didn't know what a macchiato was or a latte. The coffee tasted like the last cup of coffee that's been sitting in the old coffee machine forever during night shift. I asked for a 2 large coffees and a small kids cocoa. Their larges are what any other coffee spot would consider a small and I paid $17.17. I didn't drink my coffee it truly tasted awful. I ended up calling Moondog cafe and bakery, I left a voicemail waited all day never got a call back so I called again and someone answered they said they'd relay the message to the owner (who had stepped out) and I still never got a call back. I have only asked for my money back from a restaurant once (literally 9 years ago) and I was going to do the same with this awful experience. But never got a call back so here we are. Literally gas station coffee is better than the moondogs. Everything is extremely over priced. Awful customer service. read more
